Same here bro LOL .. but one day about a month ago, I was outside an Autozone and had bought a new MAF sensor. As I was installing it a man walked by with his wife and said "wow, STS V?" He had it right, so every now and then they know what they're looking at. :)

David Moore 66 The Northstar is actually a pretty damn stout engine even the 4.6 design considering the timeframe it was designed. Considering that, 300hp is a fair amount of juice for the size of engine. It was actually designed more towards performance anyways. If their was a good aftermarket for it I’m sure you would see 350whp or more NA builds

Hate to say it, but in the USA, Mercedes Benz sells twice as many vehicles as Cadillac, Lexus also outsells Cadillac 2 to 1, with significantly better reliability and higher quality materials.

Having owned a 2008 STS V, let me say it is an amazing car (was totaled in a crash sadly a few months ago). But the 14 city fuel rating was a joke LOL. At BEST it was 12 or 12.5 around town. Highway was indeed about 19 or 20 but man, this thing drinks gas like no tomorrow. And PREMIUM gas at that. It's a fabulous car, but not as a daily driver unless you have the kind of money that fuel cost doesn't register with you. If I were to buy one again, and they're cheap now if you can actually find one rare as they are, it would have to be as a second or weekend car. Man, nothing like that supercharger whine & the V8 exhaust note though. I definitely miss her.

@TheNewMrCool The DTS was a competitor because it was Cadillac's Fullsize Luxury car with far more luxury amenities than the STS (Nightvision for instance). The STS was the midsize, It was only after the DTS was discontinued that the STS moved up to being the biggest car (not suv or crossover) that Cadillac makes.

  • @dhemrick

I've had one for nearly 4 years and still love it as much as the day I bought it. This is an absolutely fantastic car. I've driven the BMW M6, Mercedes E55 AMG and Jaguar XF-R, and although they are all very nice cars, the Cadillac is still superior overall. The XF-R comes closest in my opinion, but the build quality is a hint better on the Cadillac. The Mercedes is just boring. The BMW is beautiful on the outside and drove great, but the interior looks like it was made by Fisher Price.

Preformance wise the Jag had 69 Hp less than the caddie (although it weiged over 600 pounds less than the STS making the performance numbers pretty much the same) ...so whe're is your comparison again? Just in price and size... You do know that the DTS was basically the competitor to the XJ and not the STS (excluding any V or R models).

If your interested in buying one they are considerably reliable as long as they have been taken care of. If you buy one look for a one owner older guy, and check for regular maintenance these cars are very reliable if taken care of, for aftermarket parts they are hard to come by, you can usually find intake and suspension but it’s a 6 lug wheel so good luck finding aftermarket wheels. Exhaust manifolds, driveshaft, multiple thermostats, multiple ignition coils, intercooler pump, electronic gremlins, the magnetorheological shocks are toast and none are available, heated steering wheel failed early on (and none in the GM parts network) and God forbid you need any body work specific to the car because the parts are non-existent. Don't disagree, but with such high output mileage was never a big concern. Cadillac wanted with the STS V and the XLR V to have its own powerplant. The CTS V over time, with the vette LS just made more sense so that's where the development went after 2008.

@TheNewMrCool you have to admit the way it sways into turns isn't pretty
the american attempt at high power luxury class for the businessman is on par with the rest of the american lineup, they might be gaining in quality and reliability these days but they sure aren't as beautiful as they used to be
big old beasts from the 50's, 60's and 70's were the last beauty cars of the american manufacturing curve
the attempt at retaking old glory is patriotic but the past will never be out done...

    Northstar. It's junk.

No sir, not ever. And the head bolt issue was resolved in 2004. It's a great engine and since 2004 it's bulletproof too - even with a V supercharger.

We round up bs claims. The NS is not junk. It's fabulous. Even despite the headbolt issue most engines lasted well over 100k miles before giving them up.

Nope. My 99 STS gave up the ghost @ 63,000 miles. The Northstar headbolt problem ruined Cadillac's credibility. And because they never admitted it and did a proper recall, their reputation still suffers today. I still drive a Caddy, but can't recommend them to most others because their engines (except for the "V" series) still lack power and sophistication.
