I ordered the VX. waited almost 2 years. the car yard called me to decide if i wanted to buy it. not enough that the price jumped by 10k but the fact that the back space been reduced by half made my decision easy. i didn’t want to buy it and cancelled my order until Toyota rectify the problem with the back space.
New Zealand are releasing 5 seat variants to other model grades (e.g GXL) - they started with 7 seats only. Australia will most likely follow given the negative 7 seat layout feedback
Yeah it sounds like people aren’t too happy with the 7 seat layout and given how few people actually need the seats, it doesn’t make much sense for Toyota to offer as it’s only variant. Crazy times
Lexus GX550 worth looking at based on new Prado but with V6 Petrol engine. Otherwise step up to full size base LandCruiser 300 series for similar price to top spec Prado
I have a 150 GXL, personally I have found the seats comfortable, I have done a couple of 8-9 hour drives, but maybe that is because I came from a 05 hilux SR😂. Even though I found my extra row of seats handy on occasion, I could not buy the 250 7-seater. If I was in the market for a new car I would be looking at either the 300gx or a high spec Fortuner, though more likely the fortuner as I cannot justify or afford a $100k car.
Couldn’t agree more. The fortuner is looking pretty tempting around now. Your back must be extra strong from the hilux 🤣 Thanks for commenting mate. Much appreciated
One additional aspect to consider is the 60kg max load limit on the floor in the 5 seat variants. Though a simple false floor across the top would solve that, but will Toyota void the warranty id anything goes wrong🤷🏼♂️?
You guys had both the small fuel tank and the large one on the 150 , what do you think of the middle ground toyota have done with the 250 being 110 litres, on the dash it forecasts about 980 KM range, I had both the flat and wheelback 150 and really missed the wheelback when I got the flatback model . I think the 250 fuel is a good middle ground personally if you can't have the same as the wheelback , but what I don't like is the Adblue introduction
It’s Mark here, I think it’s plenty for most people. I had no issues with my flatback. The only exception is that the 110L tank will be annoying to people who are towing as they will have fill up 1/3 more than the old prado 150 wheel back Prado owners. For those towing, I’d say they would get frustrated not having that extra 50L and having to fill up more regularly
@@NorthOz The accelerated use of AdBlue at around $4 per litre will put people off towing with this vehicle. Notwithstanding the drop in payload from the previous model.
The real problem as I see it from a South African perspective is the battery in the boot. Sad that you have to look at a 5 seater to possibly deal with and give decent packing space. Leaves just a GX or Altitude. If you want the heated and ventilated seats you are forced into the Altitude but it has more of an off-road bias Really thankful that Toyota South Africa didn't go this route. How Toyota Australia might react to any modifications in the boot area would be of concern. Don't want warranties to be voided. I was fortunate enough to have got a 250 series in August. Awesome vehicle. Very comfortable and easy to drive but not without some issues ie gearbox is not smooth when it changes down from around 3rd and lower, wind noise from mirrors, very small fridge and poor storage in door panels Reports here that when towing, the car doesn't recognise a trailer or caravan and doesn't disconnect some of the safety stuff. This has to be manually done. Then when switching off reconnects again. Apparently the 150 series was the same so it may not be an issue for your Dad.
Great points and thank you for watching. I’d also be concerned about warranties around the battery in the back. Imagine installing a drawer system and it affects the battery. Questions would be raised. I’d like to hear more about your 250 experience as you own it more. Reach out to me on Instagram. Send us a pic of your rig 👍
@@NorthOz I took delivery of a VX-R on 8 August. Unfortunately a couple of days later I was hospitalised for a spell so didn't get much distance on her when we came to leave on a 5 week road trip on 13 September. Odo read 563 kms when we left. What do I like about the car * It's very comfortable compared to the Fortuner I had before but not as comfortable as the Land Rover Discovery 4 I had before that with it’s air suspension. * On a trip the adaptive cruise and head up display are great. Somewhat ambivalent about the Lane Tracing Assist but did use a bit. * Surround camera resolution is better than in most cars. * The heated and cooled seats are brilliant but more about the 2nd row ones later. * The ability to customise settings once you are aware of what can be done. The car and multimedia manuals are rubbish. Thank goodness for UA-cam * Over a total distance of approximately 4900 kms the worst consumption was 9,1 whilst best was 7,9 litres per 100 kms. Don't think anyone can complain about that. Was sticking to true speed limits via navigation app on iphone. Also fully loaded. * I found the power of the vehicle OK. Would like more but not a train smash. Don't know why Toyota didn't use the 165 Kw / 550 Nm state of tune as is in some Hiluxes. Happy that the 48 volt electric assistance that Auz and New Zealand are getting is not part of SA specifications though. The battery space needed under the 3rd row compromises load area big time. As an aside the Mercedes ML 270 CDI of 2000 or so had 120 Kw / 400 Nm. Folk were generally happy with that back then. I had a C270 CDI and that was pretty good. We forget how power and torque has increased over the years. * Did very limited off road driving and what we did in the Game Park honestly didn't need low range. Tried it anyway more to see how the crawl worked and more than capable. Not in a 70 series league as would be expected. * Physical buttons and switches What don't I like * The gearbox is not smooth when changing down from 3rd and lower. Others have reported similar concerns and my Toyota Dealer is aware of. Hope software update sorts it out. * The left wing mirror in particular has a lot of wind noise. It may be channeled from the wipers as the right side does not seem as bad * The nanny approach of Toyota's with all the safety systems. Fortunately most can be turned off. * The indicator which I cannot hear when on which is at odds with how safety systems flash and beep at every opportunity * The fridge is smaller than that in the 150 series. Will hold standard cool drink tins and small bottles but forget about 500 ml bottles. * Space in the door panels is also not that good. * Some of Toyota's accessories. The towbar which isn't removable so will bash your legs when loading and offloading. Third party one is available but still trying to get confirmation that fitting it will not void warranty or the maintenance plan I took. Any Problems? * Yes. The right side of the second row was heating notwithstanding the switches being off. The car went into Toyota. Fault with the seat heating unit. Has to be ordered from Japan which takes 3 to 4 weeks to get here. Got car back with unit partially disconnected but not good if it was a critical part that had to be ordered. Would I buy another one? * Absolutely. Really really like the vehicle. * Could trade this one for more than I paid for it. Prado's have always retained value very well. What have I added to the vehicle * VPS protection film. Expensive but preferably to ceramic coatings * 3rd party rubber floor and boot mats
@ I seen the gx cloth seats are not that flash. I also don’t like the plastic bumpers and black trim in gx, gxl and altitude. I think they will discolour as car age. Your dad will love the aircon seats in vx.
It’s true. Step backwards in some respect. Unless that 48v is going to compensate for the 50L of fuel missing, I’m not sure what they were thinking. Towing will be a hassle having to fill up all the time
Just like dad I love camping and tow 2.8T caravan. Had to cancel our Altitude order and got our deposit back. We did the numbers on the payload without any 4x4 extras and we are over. How can they say you can tow 3.5T. I contacted Toyota about a GVM Upgrade and they said if I get one there’s no guarantee it won’t effect the warranty. To much money for no peace of mind. Ordered the Ford Everest Tremor. 100kg more payload, more power, all the towing tech, all 4x4 extras covered by warranty. 20,000 extra in my back pocket. No choice 🤷🏼♂️
This is what it’s all about. We take the information we have available to us and make the best decision we can. When you put the numbers and correspondence together like that, I can’t blame you for going with the Ford. We need to have peace of mind when spending this much money
It’s definitely a consideration. The prado 150 was already pricey. This takes it up a notch and with no real changes to the drive train. Not sure where the extra 💰 is going with these new 250s
I ordered the VX.

Good on you there guys great fantastic work you've done today.
I wish you all the best with your new prado 250 and enjoy your new vehicle.
Thanks mate! Haven’t bought one but we’ll definitely consider it
@NorthOz As per usual, Much support from myself😎👍
Great vid boys, always look forwardvto my North Oz eps...keep em up 👌
Thanks Robert! We appreciate it 👍
It’s called inflation
Great work men 👍 🇦🇺
Thanks legend!
Having a 150 VX this is a great video to get to know how it feels to be in a 250 😊
Thank you 🙏 I’m glad it helps. Keep an eye out for follow up videos

Base models always have represented the best value for money. The 300 isn’t that far off the top spec prado. Makes the choice difficult

2024 GXL seats are a step up still

Get the vx mate. The electronic adjusted shocks must have for comfort .
Good call! We will look into that. We are interested in trying out the GX to see how it goes compared to the VX
@ I seen the gx cloth seats are not that flash. I also don’t like the plastic bumpers and black trim in gx, gxl and altitude. I think they will discolour as car age. Your dad will love the aircon seats in vx.
Watch follow Jake and lil they towing a van with a new 250.
Is it an upgrade still same old engine the rear seat layout is an after thought smaller fuel tank add blue the list goes on
It’s true. Step backwards in some respect. Unless that 48v is going to compensate for the 50L of fuel missing, I’m not sure what they were thinking. Towing will be a hassle having to fill up all the time
It’s a 4cyl 300 series
Certainly looks similar to the 300 that’s for sure
i will save you the trouble and say, buy the base lexus instead of the prado. better overall package and experience
Never thought of that. I’ll have a look at the price difference. I wonder what the servicing costs look like in comparison to the toyota
Agree with careful approach, don’t buy it just because it’s Toyota.
Yeah we want to see what the GX is like before making a decision. It’s a bit of coin
There are companies now offering 3rd row seat delete
Yep! Our friends at the department of the interior have theirs ready to roll 👍
Great buy an overpriced vehicle and you modify it because it’s poorly designed great buy noooot
The Altitude has same floor as GX, depends if you want to spend $100k?
Way overpriced in my opinion.
That’s something we don’t get? Throughout the models it gives and takes away the seats. There isn’t much continuity. Not like the 150

Good and bad. Good for cancelling prado. Bad for buying the Ford. Good luck.
Bought a nice sailing yacht instead ...
Ahoy
Way overpriced now. No thanks.
