What's up Ladies & Gentlemen!
Did you MISS the previous VIDEO in this Skid Steer Series? If you did, you may want to check it out, Here is the link: ua-cam.com/video/SGwzntcVOH0/v-deo.html
As ALWAYS, I truly appreciate your support and I'm glad you're here! I hope you enjoy this video!
I see you gots a street sweeper lol
thanks for the videos! btw contact adhesive requires you to spray BOTH surfaces THEN wait until tacky....it bonds to itself . it was kind of painful watching that struggle lol. side note 15 1/4 is 1/2 of 30 1/2 to my mind finding center of the piece then measuring out 15 1/4 is less of a struggle your method works as well.
Matt you seem so happy now that the den is done. Way to go. You deserve it. We love your work!
Hi, Just wanted to say, I really enjoy your channel/videos. Very interesting for me being a trained automotive service tech. What a transformation on your skid steer! Have a great Memorial Day Holiday week. ☺️
1:29:28 1:29:28
Wow, almost a 2 hour episode. This has been an epic series on this skid steer.
I subscribed when you saved a bench vise. When you brought all the cast iron you have at your first shop I said outloud this is what salvage should be. I love dogs! You never stop. You remind me of a boy that grew into an almost 70 year old working on old things and making them useful again. I think it keeps me feeling useful still. Keep up the good work. Thenks for the videos
You weren't kidding when you said this was dropping soon... Super stoked I have another 2 hours of enjoyable content to binge. Thanks for all you do and keep up the good work!
The upgrades are super...the lighting is OUTSTANDING. Thanks for taking us along on this project.
@1:50:56 I am someone waiting on Old Red. I started watching your channel after the algorithm suggested you and I binged the first 4-5 Old Red episodes straight. I think the first 2-3 videos I watched were anvil salvages... but then Old Red appeared! I've learned so much watching you tear down and rebuild and fabri-cobble the parts you need. Take the time you need, hopefully people come forward with the parts/support you need. In the meantime, love all the content. Just know: Old Red is loved and eagerly awaited. :)
Most of the times, when I come back late from work, I choose a movie to relax. Sometimes these movies are fine to do the relaxing and joyful job they promise, sometimes they dont do this job..Maybe my mood.. However 100% (and I mean it) of the times Im watching your videos they are always a great treat not to mention the load of knowledge you honestly and happily share with us.Thats why I dont miss even a single one . Please allow me to say to you, 1 million thanks (which are not enough). Keep it up whatever you choose to do. I will follow!
Looks like a disco ball on steroids with the lights spinning around! Fabulous outcome!
I enjoyed watching Bumble Bee,. all come together thanks for taking the time to share it with us.
Bumble Bee would look good on some Tee shirt merch.
From Elliot Lake, Ontario, Canada.
I thank you for considering me as one of the salvage nation Matt. Great content and must see channel. Good luck safe journey and Peace
You are young and talented. "This" is the path your life should take. There is an enormous market for aged equipment that has been completely refurbished by someone like yourself. With the planned obsolescence by manufacturers, DEF requirements on new equipment, and the allure of nostalgia ... buying, restoring, and flipping equipment taken to a "like new level" can produce a serious profit, and will for many years to come. Just remember the old "car-guy adage" ... you can't put too much into a creampuff, or too little into a dog. Also ... Your new "DIG's" play right into the concept.
Stickers!! Got to get me some stickers! Learn a lot from your teachings. Really like seeing what you save, not limited to vehicles either. Keep it up, always a fun time with you
I like this type of restoration, anybody can have a crack without breaking the bank ✌🏻🥸
When glueing up the form rubber after spraying both surfaces wait a minute till glue is tacky. (JUST LIKE A STICKER) Than apply the foam. Same for head liners and pannel covers.😎👍👍I'm thinking a prop bar instead of the slide lock would of been a better choice. Made with a small slightly bent rod welded on one end that fits in the same hole and with a sleeve and bolt at the other bolted to the lid.
Yep, this. Contact cement works the opposite of regular glues - you spray it on (both sides, the cab and the liner) then wait til it dries. After the carrier solvent evaporates, it leaves a somewhat sticky residue behind to the touch (like rubber cement), but it sticks to itself like mad. In fact, that's why it's called "contact" cement: once it contacts itself, it ain't letting go without a fight! But if you try to use it before the solvent evaporates, or if it's only applied on one side and not the other, it won't stick very well.
Cool, long episode Matt - thanks! And thanks also for resisting the urge to add music to your videos. That's so annoying.
When I worked at my dad's auto trim shop I replaced a lot of headliners. Like said above, gotta spray both sides and let it dry before sticking it together.
The way he did it with that cheap contact cement from a spray can it doesn't stand a chance of staying stuck long.
Torture watching you use the contact cement.
Happy to be a TRUE member of the Salvage Nation.... I had a house in NY that had been carved up into 4 apartments. it was built in 1863... with a root cellar basement... At one point I had a river running through that basement... thru a drainage tile and out into the front yard... where we had "Barrett Lake". The town had dug up the old water main and replaced it... but in the process they damaged the old pump well and plumbing that used to service the house. So THAT happened... but your situation reminds me of it. As to your ideas for merch... excellent. Many develop quite a substantial income stream from such activities. Others can hope for Big Red... but I actually want to see you rebuild all those cylinders on the Gehl and REALLY get it working well.
One of the easiest skid steers to work on that was ever made. When the 95 HP unit came out I sold 7 of them in one month.
you are really busy so here is a reminder to go back and fix that coolant leak. your videos are fantastic!
It was Old Red that made me discover your channel, from over here in the UK, and I’ve watched ever since .. very interesting projects and you have a good presentation style😊 I prefer seeing you working, and problem solving, on the bigger machines but I do see Big Red may be uneconomical... it’s a massive shame after all your excellent work so far - but there we are. My hope is that somewhere in the US there’s a suitable secondhand undercarriage🤞🤞😉
PS I make radio model aircraft and my favourite plane of all time is named Big Red 👍😊🇬🇧
Enjoyed it! And especially seeing the Weimeriners.
The old GEHL is ready to go make crop-circles with those lights!
Ooh, an old (military?) jeep, an antique flatbed, and an antique geared winch? And a second antique truck! Nice!
I have enjoyed everything! Old Red is a money sink, but, I love the idea of buying into bringing Old Red all the way back!
Love watching these long videos and looking forward to your next one. 😀
I will gladly be a Member of the Salvage Crew!
As a metal fabricator, you have to adjust your metal break blade for the metal thickness. If not you can damage the machine and also have problems as you were having breaking your metal plate. You have adjustments at the back of your break on each side. They adjust your blade in and out for the metal thickness.
sorry I agree with you to a point but did you hear what year that Machine was make your grand mother was maybe in Pamper is not a modern machine give a guy a break
@@martinromerocintron6294 I wasn’t trying to give him a hard time just advise on how to adjust his break.
I have worked on several old manual breaks, finger breaks from 4’ to 16’, and cnc breaks that will bend 1-1/2” plate. All manual breaks have adjustments on them or they will not work.
@@Mike-vn7ys 100% Agreed - I've worked on Aircraft and sheet metal for years, and you have to adjust the brake to match the thickness of the metal that you bend - the ends of the fingers MUST be AT LEAST as far away from the bending point as the thickness of the material (preferably a tiny bit more), or you end up trying to force the fingers BACKWARDS - and pinching the material, rather than bending it - making things impossible.
@@Mike-vn7ysGood advice.
@@srp01983 is it "brake", like on a car, or "break", like it's damaged? Somebody is relying on spell check! LOL
The unintended comedy and the way you do everything in the hardest way imaginable makes it frustrating to watch. But, I also like the fact that you are doing something instead of just talking about it for years.
I don't have any money. Literally. This is the 2nd. time I've watched this video and I'm subbed. I would send you stuff but thieves have hit me hard. You have great content. Do whatever ever you want. It's all good.
Matt,I’m sticking with you. I really enjoy watching how you tackle your projects. I wish I would have lived my younger years as you are doing Keep up the good work.
That should have been in two parts mate , Phew. Thanks mate 👌👏👏👏👏👏😎🍺
A simple solution for the lights: use three toggle switches with your power jumpered to all, then your lights (load) to each switch. Flip two switches for front and back, one for just the front, and all for every light.
Matt, Mick here. Awesome back to back videos.
Great job Matt, I think you’ll make any project interesting to watch.
A Plus, This is the best old machine restoration /mod, on a cab I have seen to date. old school cab mods should be the in thing 😎
are you bringing out your artistic and acting side you i'm glad you put out videos☺
Old Red was the "click bait" that got me to your channel in the first place and I watched the series on that and some of the other stuff you were doing and that's what led me to subscribe! (Don't worry- I'm not gonna unsubscribe! I'm still interested in all your other projects!) So heck yeah, I'd like to see that come back.
3 cheers for "Cardboard Aided Design".
Skid steer looks great! Good job!!! For the water, I would do a big 8” French drain covered in pea gravel 6” below and 6” on top and sides. I would do from your gate all the way to your creek in the back, I’m confident that would fix the issue, water will just keep finding new spots unless you make one long big drain channel under ground the whole side of that dirt wall
I Love ALL you do, and a bit jealous if I may add. I was an aircraft mechanic, so I am a bit more mechanical than most perhaps, I would like to see you get back to restoring the old machine shop machines you rescued, bandsaw, mill, lathes, etc..... BUT, I watch almost every video you put out. Thank You Matt, keep doing what you are doing.
At night it looks like Close encounters!!! Mothership! Love it!
the ol Gehl turned out really nice Matt. Thanks as always for sharing!
Your new style of welcoming, reminds me of tv as a kid watching PBS and making the watcher feel like the did just "stop over" for a visit. Keep up the great work and content.
Love the terminology “catiwompas” 😅😅😊
Just an FYI, rust is catalytic causing further rusting to speed up. It’s always good to remove rusting steel.
I enjoy watching your show I love how you restore things you take your time and you explain everything that you do it’s expressly helpful to a fellow like me that’s not very mechanically inclined I am 75 years old I live in Toledo Washington and my name is Bob I would love to buy some merchandise when I can’t afford it thank you very much for a great show keep up the good work
It really helps to read and follow the spray adhesive instruction's. LOL!
I've been watching for a few months....subbed after a few videos. I enjoyed watching you bring this thing back to life. We live in such a disposable society that guys like you, Deisel Creek, Vice Grip Garage, Mustie One etc.. can make a living rescuing things that have simply been neglected and cast aside. It actually gives hope that a guy could acquire and restore things that he wouldn't otherwise be able to afford (as long as you don't buy a total lemon)
Nicely done👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅✅✅✅✅ Happy Memorial Day🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
The one thing I'd have done differently is use more flood style lights for the sides and rear rather than spotlight style. It's unlikely you'd ever need focused light to navigate around in any direction other than forwards. It'd help get better visibility to the corners that way too.
Glad to see you switch to the little trigger thing for the rattle can. Best $3 I ever spent 😂
The Old red restauration is expensive, but it will be worth is as it will be very good content for your channel and it will grow your channel.
Love the longer videos. Yes to the merch, I will buy it.
New subscriber here. I enjoyed your no BS style. You fix it and explain it as you go and you finish without leaving a cliff hanger. Also, if you start a project, complete it, and don't say it's too hard or it's "not worth it". Just make sure that the viewer and the project is your priority and if you do, I'm good.
Snowing in April? Welcome to my Canadian Life(tm) :)
It’s great. I’m a truck enthusiast. Cabovers my thing. Would be nice to see the international. Don’t worry if not. Won’t stop me watching
I'm looking forward to the cylinder rebuild. Thanks for sharing!
Putting some of that step sandpaper on surfaces entering and exiting the machine might be helpful. Good job on this one, even though the major issues were kinda of your own making. hehe But it proved smart going through that fuel system.
Like skateboard grip tape
Impressive result. As a nation known for keeping old equip running you are a brother.
Contact adhesive. You must have glue on both surfaces. The instructions are written on the can. Other than that, very enjoyable.
Also allow to touch dry then glue together :)
A nearly 2 hour video took a bit, but I loved it. Wasn't you, I work retail and have been very busy this past weekend. As such I couldn't dedicate as much time to A.I.C. as I would have liked. Watching the process and your thinking behind it was, as always, compelling. As for "Merch"? You won't be the first, nor the last, but you will be in a very esoteric collection. "If you make it, they will come." Thanks again for your great content. I'm already looking forward to what's next with the projects your arching and those yet to come.
Skidsteer looking fancy now... love the interior work.
I love this channel on YT and I've watched about thirty of your video's by now, so there's a lot left to watch :) I also think that because you work alone except for the odd job where you need other hands, is excellent behaviour. I did that myself in years past when I was working (I'm 72 now and retired), and you always know that if the job got done, it was done to your own standards and not those of someone you don't entirely trust - so keep on trusting yourself mate.
I'm from just south of London in the UK although I'm originally from Durham on the North East coast where Coal and Shipbuilding were kings, so I grew up with a healthy respect for people who got their hands dirty for a living. Always been into trucks and restorations, and have been involved in some truly iconic Veteran Truck restorations.
There's only one thing I'd love to know about, and that is ..... where in the States are you ? Keep up the great work and more power to your elbow.
Really enjoyed the Two Hour Video, watched it over a few days. Keep up the good work. Mick Northern Ireland 🇬🇧
Long, but good. Thoroughly enjoyed this episode. Watching from the UK.
That skid steer is really.Going to be helpful. But, I didn’t realize it would take $8-$15,000! To continue fixing “Old Red”!
When you were putting the latch ('snib' in Scotland) on, I thought your beard was going to get wound up in the drill bit. That would have been painful.
Excellent refurbishment work and great video.
Thanks for sharing.
Michael (from Scotland)
Ps the workshop looks great for the video intro.
Just the way you explain how your doing things is good enough for me. And I would buy a shirt!
Nice job on the skid steer , looks just right ,black cab was the right decision
I would buy merch for Old Red. It's what got me interested in your channel and I would love to see it up and going again.
I don't blame you with old red. I'd say just keep trying to find a used undercarriage for it before going future because of the cost to worth of the machine. As far as other content goes I enjoy watching what you've been showing so far so keep going on the track you're on. Id like to see more of repairing the old equipment.
Nice to see your new workshop being used, Matt. We remember when you first started working on the Gehl you were out in your horse shed at the back of your property and it was a little chilly. You must miss the dog visits though. 😊
For a old girl she looks GOOD!!!😊😊😊😊😊
Skid steer looks and sounds great nice repairs great video have a great Memorial day 👍🏻🇺🇸
Like the channel. You know how to finish a project . Some on UA-cam have no idea of how to start a project and take it to the finish stage. Keep up the good work...thumbs up on the skid steer.
🔥🎥🕒 What an epic journey! This nearly 2-hour-long episode on restoring the cab of your old skid steer has been quite the spectacle. While some viewers might appreciate the in-depth exploration and upgrades, others may find the length excessive or prefer shorter, more concise content. Nevertheless, your dedication to preserving and enhancing your skid steer is admirable. Keep up the engaging series! 💪🔧🚜
Looks like the inside of my pizza oven. Good luck. Another great video. Ten thousand thumbs up!
Oh...o...o...HI Matt, love the SHOP WALLS, maybe I missed it when you did them, great way to recycle barn tin/ roof and wood, just wow.
There is a whole video on the channel finishing the inside of the shop walls... you should check it out, id bet you'll enjoy it!
@@SalvageWorkshop Thanks Matt, I will. Hope you're having a great holiday weekend.
I think you did a great job, you will enjoy working with it now even more!! I like to watch your Vids!!!
I stuck to the end thank you also can't wait to see the other projects and the finish of the gehl.
Turned out absolutely great 👍
I miss old Red. I’ll support it. I can’t WAIT until you start on the international transtar semi!
I love your videos! What I like the most on your channel are the bigger projects that become a series. Like Old Red, the Cave restoration or the skid steer. I would love to see another of you machines go from not, or barely, working to a fully functioning piece of equipment!
Looking forward to your next project! John
Another work of excellence out the door!
Good work young man we appreciate your skills and tenacity. Central California watching
The cabin looks better than new.
Stayed till the end. I'm a sucker for decals, T-shirts and patches. Not so much on mugs, caps or hoodies. But another spring wells up!
old Mr. Gehl would be proud of what you have done to his machine
I always stick around till the end 👌🇺🇸
The old girl looks great!
I sat through the entire thing. Totally enjoyed it. The cab looks great and I was thinking heat instead of sound proof but both is better. You could have hooked the lights up individually them put one of those fighter plane type switches to flip them all off at once. But hey it really did shed some light on the subject.
That skid steer looks and performs sooooo much better, thanx. The light demo in the parking lot probably had some people thinking a space ship had landed, great job on the lights. Rust never sleeps, so YES on the painting. Squatch 253 deals with older Cat crawlers, might get in touch with Toby to get a connection for Old Red parts. 😃
To raise funds for Big Red, create a Big Red Society, $25 gets entry and hat, $50 gets entry and tee shirt, $75 gets entry and long sleeved shirt with sun protection, etc. These prices and awards are just to suggest a way to raise funds. All clothing would have the Salvage Garage logo and Big Red Society printed on the front or sleeve. Enjoy all of your videos.
Recommendation for future projects. When you added the plate to the seat pan, drill a bunch of holes in the plate, clamp the plate to the seat pan then weld the plate to the seat pan through the holes in the plate, sort of like spot welding. Will make for a much stronger bond. Nice work on the skid loader.
Fine job on that skid steer loader. I'm impressed.
As for the ending, I have long been hoping you would get into the merchandise end of the channel. Stickers, shirts, etc. I would happily buy.
Good job I was worried about you catching ur beard in the drill when installing hood latch
Hi My Dear Friend Very Very Good Job ❤❤❤❤❤
For old Red, more to follow!
Good to see the old war horse get refreshed! 😎
Of course i watched to the end, its great stuff. Thank you for sharing !!!!!
Enjoyed this one on the asked steer.
If you can get the old dozer in too top shape I am sure you can get it working to help offset the cost.
Best of luck and keep em coming!
