I noticed a small thing you did, Alex. Sitting in garbage and dirt, caging the brakes, a tough dirty job. Then after putting away the tools, you cleaned your hands a little with some wet wipes. Then, standing in a landfill, you tossed the dirty wipes into the cabinet on Flipper. Very classy, habit of a lifetime, automatic reflex. 999 out of 1000 people would toss them on the ground - it's a landfill ! You did everything but sweep up the ground before leaving. An educated, cultured gentleman.
Alex impresses with his ability to analyzes requirements on the fly. One would think he had some great instruction and mentors along the way. That job should qualify for nasty environment pay. I was shocked to see you could actually tow with flipper, a well kept secret. Great job, no fluid on the ground an the job completed successfully. Thanks guys, appreciate it.
I agree. Very hard to find an operator like this that can do these calls solo. Not everything is something you'll learn in training or a book. You have to adapt and think on the fly at all times.
@@glennjukes5581 You are right - that amount of hydraulic fluid added to the barrels and barrels already in the landfill - truly a drop in the ocean. Trash trucks and heavy equipment often leak generously (repacking seals and replacing hoses is $$$$$) - not to mention the fluids discarded in trash. An act of courtesy to future generations to minimize it, with considerable effort. Bravo.
A towbar? Yes, that's how it was done way back in the day and how some smaller wheel lift trucks do it. More accurately, they have what's called a "sling". Pretty nifty!
Alex, I have to hand it to you for consistency when you tossed the dirty wipes into the rotator so you don't add to the trash in a landfill! Mega Kudos for another great trouble free recovery!
No shit lmfao, he was in the ONE place where throwing them on to the ground would be the opposite of littering 😂 I mean he was crawling around in it for half the video anyway..
@@jonbird6566I did a job where I had to deliver dirt and clay and then hauled garbage and dirt from one end to the dump to the other so methane gas lines can be laid. Talk about a stench, which took weeks to get the smell out of the truck and multiple washes to get the smell out of my clothes, the double showers I had to take.
Alex always performs like an expert, even working alone on tough, dirty jobs. First time to use the towbar, difficult to deploy and rig. I would have been calling someone to ask questions. He breezes through it.
Man I’ve been driving heavy for 5 years now the last 8 months in a rotator and rarely get to do fun stuff like this. To be as good as you in only 1 1/2 years would be a dream. Keep up the great work!
Alex you have no limitations on what you can do! You have the perfect attitude and work ethic! You’re the best in the business! Thanks for sharing! Kevin
Good point about long pants - this was a hot day. Maybe some work pants are part of Flipper's equipment. Always concerning to see Alex or Josh in shorts, scrambling up and down brushy desert slopes.
Some people have a natural understanding of physics and some just don't have that natural ability at all. Also mechanical aptitude is another must in this job. Someone who has a natural ability to do both could pick up this job very quickly.
Excalent video Alex is a true gentleman and a professional great job. Josh if at all possible could you please do a video of all of Pepe’s equipment that’s the first time I ever saw the blue truck 😊😊
I have an end dump too and this is always a worry. You have to be perfectly level and even if you are if the load doesnt slide out evenly is can unbalance and tip over. At the landfill i go to they won't even let you back in until it is clear of other trucks fifty feet on each side. Safety rules are written in blood
Outstanding, Alex, you make it look easy! I'm very impressed with how much ancillary equipment you carry, as well as how neatly it is stored. The only thing missing is a Zodiac rubber boat for water recovery. JaJaJa. God bless!
You have got to watch close when dumping. I pulled an end dump almost 10 years, and I never turned one over, but I watched there I was dumping and made sure the ground firm. Sometimes, no matter how hard you try, it happens the way pen in the fifth wheel kept it from turning the truck over. If the pen goes all the way across the fifth wheel it will turn the truck almost every time. Stay safe, and God bless. Dan 🇺🇸
Mighty skookum work, retracting that long cylinder without incident. It'd be easy to tweak it just enough that seals would give out, then you got a hazmat to mess with. My hat's off, dude. And props for mentoring his teammate.
I've been through Simi Valley a number of times; usually by coming down 118 from the 14, which goes up to Palmdale and up to China Lake (Naval Weapons Center). I lived for 3 years in Camarillo, where I also worked, being stationed at Pt. Mugu. I don't think I ever realized that they had a landfill, though.
I honestly never thought I’d see the day that Big Flipper towed something. I honestly didn’t think y’all even had a tow bar for that rig. Well done over all Alex. Always the consummate professional. I guess Cali doesn’t allow sling towing using the bar like that huh? That would have been fine here in NY. (Goes without saying well done to you as well Josh for editing.)
It's not the bar that's illegal, it's the weight. Flipper has a moving permit, but you wouldn't be able to legally tow a single thing without legally being overweight on the rears. That's Cali for you lol
Job well done, guys. A stinky, nasty job. One thing I keep meaning to say and always forget - it's really interesting watching you guys use all your equipment. There is math, and geometry, an understanding of physics and a heck of a lot more. Your specialty is really involved. I've watched things I wouldn't have believed possible. You and your crew are absolutely awesome.
I feel like this move is a peak rotator move, being able to lift the casualty on 4 lines, having full control of it, without making a scrath. Very nice work Alex 👍
Holy crap! Mad impressed when he suspended the trailer in the air and the weight is perfectly dispersed. Also, one of my first times seeing a ladfill, not what I was expecting but makes sense😂
Alex, I gotta give you credit where credit is due.. With all due respect to that guy, that would have irritated the hell out of me. Not me over here Yelling:... "LET ALEX JUST DO HIS JOB," HE IS THE PROFESSIONAL.. I get way to involve in this post..🤷♀️🤣🤣
Nicely done! Common sense is a tool you must have well developed in your profession. I've known some people who wouldn't be able to pour piss out of their boots with the directions written on the heel.
I used to work for ECI, my first trucking job. Great to get experience, and then get out 😂 basically on call, overtime after 40hrs. Yard was tiny only one truck could pull in at a time and park I worked the vacuum truck and roll offs
Simi landfill is where I make a trash run a couple of times a year. It’s always interesting to see all the ongoing work! PS - surface always seems spongy before the landfill compacts the area.
Alex and Josh, Good afternoon. It's Monday June 3. Little behind on videos I subscribe to. Nice thing, to a degree, about being retired 😢😢 is I'm on no schedule. Just to let you know, I've only been a subscriber for a month and have been watching to your guys channel for about 2. Several items here. 1st. For what I was thinking was going to be a simple straightforward roll over turned into a real pain. Nice going on the cylinder retraction---good job. 2. When the guy there asked how long you had been doing your job, I thought you were at it much longer than 18 months. When he then asked how long it took you to learn this, I honestly thought you would say, " I'm STILL learning" 😬😬. 3. Wasn't aware you could tow with Big Flipper----pretty neat set-up. 4. 1st time seeing Echo and that truck. That is a big, beautiful hoss. Connected to that trailer it has to be 90---100ft long🤔🤔🤔 5. Lastly. WHEN are you going to get a proper paint or wrap scheme on your rotator?? With the name Big Flipper, it reminds me of a TV show called "Flipper" back in the late 60's or early 70's about a dolphin. Flipper was a "super" dolphin capable of understanding the 2 boys that cared for it. A BIG dolphin on the side of your truck would be cool to see. Have Josh get busy on that!!!! Great video. You earned your pay on this one for sure.
The inexperience of the dirt hauler allowed himself to be directed by the dump director who guides these big dump haulers who usually know better to drive out on such unstable ground. There are solid ground flat areas at these landfills that experienced trucked dirt haulers will only dump at. Then those mounds are frontend loaded and bulldozed in over the soft trash.
What a job. At least the tractor did not roll. Hope Big Flipper got all its rigging back after the trailer was dropped off. Job well done by Alex and Echo.
recently did a hydrovac job at a landfill (exposing LFG lines). dump was on site and this is exactly what me and my colleague were concerned about when dumping. very spongy "ground" at the top of the landfill.
Another job well done by the rescue man Alex. One question: wouldn't it have been easier to connect with airlines instead of caging the brakes? I don't know though maybe you weren't equipped to hook up the airlines? Anyway well done!
A frameless dump trailer--one of the most dangerous machines ever made--you see the results right there!
