Idk cause if you said “hey honey I’m going to order a $160 grip” I would be like “no you’re not” 😭
😂
Smallrig user here. My one complaint is that I wish it was a little taller for more grip. Definitely appreciate the price and solid build.
Yes!!! Dylan taking in the hard hitting questions! This is a real review here. Much appreciated.
Thanks for watching man!
One main reason for getting the A7CR is the 61mp sensor. The other is the grip, which is included in the price. It feels great. This may be something to think about when considering which camera to buy. Of course, the CR is, in my worthless opinion, the much better choice. If you consider buying the grip for the A7CII, it adds more cost to the camera, $160, so the price difference between bodies is less.
You nail all the points from my “Why I Chose A7CR over the A7CII” video! So I very much agree!
I’ve had the Sony grip for my a7C2 for a couple of weeks & was surprised to hear you say it is plastic- I had assumed it was light weight metal alloy, so it is a good quality plastic. I don’t use it that much- with compact lenses I prefer to curl a finger under the camera body.
You could be right about the metal alloy! Hard to tell because it is so light. I assumed it’s a high quality polymer plastic but either way my point still stands!
For the same price I rather get the 50mm 1.8. btw thanks to you I bought the a7c a few months ago and I really in love with it (is my first camera). Your content is an inspiration to me, regards from chile 🇨🇱✌🏼
Thanks for watching and supporting the channel!
The sony is definitely more comfortable and i like that you can attach it without a tool (i lost the one that came with the Smallrig in 2 days!). But i just can't believe they didn't make it arca swiss.
The smallrig is far less functional as a grip, fortunately i bought it for the arca capability. It does allow the battery to come out btw. Oh and it look soooo good in silver.
I finally got mine the other day! And it does look sooo good with the silver (which matches the top silver surprisingly well! Very pleasantly not-so-surprised by the Smallrig grip. Not sure if it will replace the Sony grip yet for me though. Probably won’t make a separate dedicated video but I will discuss it in a video in the near future!
@@DylanBlackburn looking forward to the video!
I really like the Sony grip and I almost never shoot with a tripod, so the Arca Swiss thing doesn't matter to me. My only real gripe is that it doesn't have a connection place for a Peak Designs connector on the bottom. I carry my camera sling style with one connector on the top left and one on the bottom. That means I have to put one of those Peak Designs small plates on the bottom and there goes the flat surface. First world problems!
I like my sling the same way and for that reason I completely switched over to the Smallrig grip!
Given that opinion is divided on the virtues of the Sony GP-X2, Smallrig or none at all I imagine there will be many lightly used options on eBay. Personally I think the Sony unit is great and a significant factor in me purchasing the A7CR in the first place.
Good point! I’m just glad people have options! Already off to a better start compared to the original A7C
The grip on my A7 C2 was unfortunately loose. I've now switched to the one from Smallrig. I cannot recommend the one from Sony at all.
Now that sucks to hear!
I actually forgot my a7cr even came with the grip. I’ve had the camera since release and have yet to even take the grip out of the box. Personally my goal is to make the camera as small and light as possible.
Grip looks nice and I really like the hinge feature that allows quick access to the battery compartment. Do you think this would fit on an A7III?
still waiting sony to deliver my grip. they delay it almost one month now because stocks are rare here. hope it worths the wait
The grip is hideous. I got the small rig one. I think the last one too 😂 right after I ordered it I went back to the listing and it said back ordered
So it’s your fault I had to wait so long to get it 😂
@@DylanBlackburn you are also not going to like the fact that I ordered it before I even ordered the camera hahaha. I just had a hunch it was going to sell out before I had the actual camera
The grip is key. Get it?? Key grip?? Ok never mind. Thanks for making this video
As someone who works in video production, I get it and appreciate your pun :)
Smallrig one is much more stylish and useful
But much less comfortable to hold
Got the dedicated Smallrig baseplate in silver (raw aluminium) for my silver A7CII here in France and it is both stylish, convenient and comfortable! Exactly the same colour as the camera top plate and makes it look as vintage Fujifilm bodies with the silver top and base. Also Arcaswiss compatible and allowing battery change without removing it. Perfectly flat therefore the camera can be laid on flat surfaces and it’s protecting the camera base from scratches. Amazing fit and perfectly engineered by Smallrig. My little finger is able to grasp the Smallrig base so my whole hand is handling the camera in a comfortable and more secure manner. Got on Black Friday for less than 30€
Small rig makes a really nice cage. I'm not sure if it's out for the version 2 yet but for my a7c it's absolutely great and it has anarca Swiss built in
