I have the Ulanzi one (or the previous model they made at least) - Word of warning for APSC users, it wobbles on the smaller bodies (A6400) but is rock solid on the A6700. Another bonus of these is if you fit a long Arca Swiss plate to their plate, you get the same reach as a mounting collar bracket on a telephoto lens. This means you don't need to add the tripod collar to zooms (some don't come with them) as the plate is as low as a collar plate would be (not getting in the way of the lens). This is especially useful for my Sony 70-350 (APSC) as it doesn't come with a tripod collar, but the Ulanzi with a long base plate gives the same result. Also - the upside down option - great for when you invert your tripod centre column, because your camera is then the right way up!
I bought 3 Silence Corner Atoll's and I love them, that being said, Silence Corner can easily release different mounting options since the front arca swiss plate can be unscrewed. I don't know why they aren't releasing more mounting options that I can change instead of that arca swiss. I really would love to invest in the company that has the original idea but also, come on Silence Corner, you can make this thing so much better with thoughtful accessories!
Have you looked into the upcoming atoll x they have coming out at all? Seems like they’re focusing on trying to make more of an all in one solution instead of having a bunch of different versions. I don’t know if that would fix the issue but it will be interesting to see
Great product that I almost never use. Unless I know for certain I’m shooting both ways it’s just kind of inconvenient to take on/off or keep on a camera body. Don’t regret owning one I just think I got a little caught up in the hype when I ordered it 😂
Man I'm so glad I found your video! I have a Tamron 35-150 and I would have been so mad if I'd gotten one of the others and hadn't been able to use it with that lens!
I got the Ulanzi, mainly because I don't like backing kickstarter stuff and I got it within a week of my order. Unfortunately my main lens is the the Tamron 35-150 and it won't work on it. This is an example of know what you are getting before you buy it.
As an architectural photographer, I have had a few of these. I just went from an earlier SmallRig design to the Ulanzi Falcam one you have here. I like the removable ring for packing, but the side mount is useless to me and gets in the way. Unfortunately, remind it leaves two annoying posts and other sharp edges. I wish it was never there. The other thing I don’t like is that the click stops are really weak and easy to go past. I had to use the tip of a needle file to deepen the notches and make mine more positive. That part of it works well now. I think the cheaper Ulanzi might have been the way to go for me.
I’m going with the newly released Atoll Model X which is compatible with battery grips and cages. Silence Corner has blazed the innovation trail, once again.
Glad your the only creator to mention the Atoll is the only one able to have the new Tamron lenses usable. I have 3 of these 4 and and its frustrating not being able to use the tamron 28-75 g2 with the Ulanzi and small rig versions
I purchased the Ulanzi S-63 (mine actually doesn’t have a red knob it’s black) about 3 months ago. After NAB Falcam sent me theirs (my next video is comparing the two). I use the F38 system and love the falcam for that…..but I still lean more towards the Ulanzi for the smaller form. (I just wish the bottom plate was f38 or have the ability to put your own on it like the falcam, because I use peak design back pack clip (with the PD/F38 plate). I still can’t decide between the two. Great breakdown as always!
Thanks for making this. Would be cool if you made an update video to review the Neewer rotatable collar mount plate. There are versions for Sony, Canon, Nikon and Fuji. The issue I have with all of these lens collars is you have to turn your camera counter clockwise to get vertical. I would rather turn my camera clockwise so I could use my camera’s flip-out screen to see myself for self portraits. With most lens collars the flip-out screen would be on the bottom and blocked by the tripod.
Yay Dunna! You answered my questions! Always wanting to know which one is better but no budget at all so I am still waiting for a video like this. You DID IT! Dunna DID IT! I am defiitely going for Ulanzi x Falcam and Ulanzi S63. Budget constraint. Not a big production or any famous youtuber. Am only doing it as a hobby and small event support.
Thanks for the video. Great as always! I would love to get more information about Lenses, which fit and which doesn't. You mentioned the Tamron USB already.
I also bought 2 Atoll when their kickstarter went on. And on. And on... the long delay is one reason not to buy another, the mounting problems on a camera (S1R) which was listed as "compatible" turnt out as "they were guessing it should be compatible". They were sending me a distance plate, a while after I notified them. Another problem is the slotted holes are longer than the really possible way the screws can be moved AND tightened. A clear design flaw. I made two special holders for other cameras because the basic idea is good. Btw. Leofoto also makes this "Quick-Switch, Landscape or Portrait Bracket" UL-03 and UL-02 which look very solid. Their camera plate appears to be a bit too longer and they have no PD compatible plate which is no problem to me. Most of my cameras are too heavy to be carried by that flimsy thingy. 😓
I have the atoll and the Small Rig but I like the atoll better because if you turn the atoll 90 degrees you can attach it to a Peak Design capture clip.
Great review! And thanks for opening my eyes to the Falcam version. I’ve recently got into the their quick release system, and find it amazing. I had recently purchased the SmallRig version of this for Canon, but soon returned because it made it uncomfortable to hold…my finder didn’t fit the grip anymore. What’s your experience with hand holding with these?
I'm already fully in the Falcam F38 system, so the Falcam makes the most sense for me, but I don't like how many different pieces there are and especially the fact that the mounting screw isn't captive. Thankfully, this doesn't look like something I'll really need or use very often, so until I do, I'll just leave this all alone... Unless Falcam releases a V2 that fixes all the annoyances of this model.
I have been loving my Atoll. I needed the extender to allow space for my EF to RF control adapter, and this solved somewhat for the lens release also. I think you forgot the Sunwayfoto option which I think predates Atoll or came out about the same time. The Atoll may be more $ than some of the options mentioned but it’s build is refined and solid.
Nice comparison. I ended up getting the Falcam one and one thing I don't think you mentioned is that it's not compatible with Peak design accessories like the capture clips (huge bummer they couldn't make it compatible), or manfrotto ball heads (rc2 or 200pl). If you go down the Falcam route, make sure you have, or are willing to switch, to their ecosystem. The only compatibility you get is arca and Manfrotto 500 series (which is nice I have to admit). The F22 rail on the bracket, does work with nato rail, it's just wider than standard nato.
I had initially had an advert from Neewer for one of these plates and was looking for some reviews when I've come across this video. What I've come away with is I would really love one that fits my Canon R6 mkii but is able to rotate 180° for low down macro. Unfortunately the only ones I've found for Canon only go 90° 😢
Yeah I believe the A7iii body was a bit smaller than the newer alpha lineup unfortunately. Having that full base plate means it needs to fit more perfectly.
The Atoll works for me, as I have a mix of Sony and Tamron glass…I do wish they would have thought about an extended lens release button though. Thanks!
Nicely done, Dunna! Your videos are always clear, to the point, and light enough to keep it interesting. Have you examined the NiSi Wizard adapter (which looks like the original Atoll)?
@@dunnadidit I saw the NiSi Wizard demonstrated by a NiSi rep at a camera store in L.A. Looks good. Yep, Silence Corner is about to release the Atoll Model X. They're taking preorders.
@@dunnadidit It's a bit late now, but if you ever feel like doing another one of these videos, or trying out more adapters like this, the Benro QRB95 looks really interesting and appears like it may not have the issues with Tamron lenses or the Sony lens release button based on the product images I see.
That’s odd. My Ulanzi S63 has a lens release button. They must have removed it for the newer version. Mine has a black turning knob. It’s super useful. I would say that the only issue I have these is for folks with big hands, it takes up some real estate. I might be switching to a 3 legged PD Ellie L Bracket.
Thanks Dunna! The only problem I have with all of these - and all of them do this AFAIK - is that they rotate vertically so that the flip out screen is at the bottom, making it useless for most people. It basically forces you to use an external monitor, which adds bulk. Any tips on that?
I have the Tamron 35-150mm too but bought the Ulansi S63 first and found it doens't fit. Thanks to your video I know that the Atoll fits, except that I do have to change lens of them and hope that reaching that release button isn't too annoying

A great in-depth comparison, Dunna. I got the Silence Corner a while back and I'm sad to say, it' gathered dust pretty much since I got it. I'm really struggling to make it work on the RS3 with the A7iii and original Tamron 28-75mm. I saw Chris's video but didn't go in enough for me. Any advice or a follow-up would be greatly appreciated (if you have those items that is).
Question for all of these - can you rotate and hold at any angle or just 90* stops? I do astro photography so having full rotation capability helps frame up targets easier.

The Atoll needs some improvements, like a button to release the lens , but now is the most complete , tested and flexible solution.

@@dunnadidit thats actually amazing. Its the only issue ive had with the plates for years is everytine ive had to swing the bottom away to get the battery out. Thanks for this video 😁
So much for intellectual property, huh? Nisi offers a series of these rotators with varying throat sizes depending on camera system. Sony-compatible rotators are 63mm while Nikon Z-compatible rotators are 72mm. Fotopro makes a quarter-turn rotator that will not interfere with the camera's grip or (in the case of Sony) lens release button. Personally, I would not want one of these lens-limiting accessories permanently attached to my camera body. My vote goes to the Custom Brackets Digital Pro PV rotator. I've used that for many years. Every lens fits and it's fully Arca compatible on the camera body side (with the CB Arca mounting platform). JustRite used to make a similar rotating bracket but they now seem to be defunct.
I have been using the brand Custom Brackets for the last decade. It's a much larger bracket that makes it easy to go vertical. I brought the smallrig and it arrived today, but I realized there is an issue. I shoot with the Sony vertical battery grip on my a7RIV. This is optimal for when shooting vertical as it gives me easy access to a shutter button. But now I realize that none of the models you showed, including the smallrig, will install with the grip attached to the camera. Any suggestions?
I have the Atoll and will only support them! They thought of several camera brands and not just the Sony fanboys! Plus they were THE FIRST while the others copied them without making ANY improvements or changed!!!
Yep. Me too. I do have a thing against supporting companies that just rip off other ideas rather than actually coming up with something themselves. My Attol X arrives this week to match the smaller one I already have. Great product.
@@gordoncahill1170 Here’s the thing…I have a lot of Falcam products and love their quick release system. Yes they took Peak Designs idea…but they expanded on it and change into a whole COMPLETE system. Peak Design dropped the ball on their capture clip! However with this bracket all these companies just blatantly copied the Atoll without really expanding or changing it.
I got an ulanzi pre-sale model. It has the button to release the lense. I wanted the falcam version but it wasn't out. Personaly this is a one and done purchase. I like it on my a6400 which is my photo camera. It does not work with my Tamron lenses at all. That's my biggest con.
I bought the small rig version and the lens doesn’t lock in. Maybe the SmallRig lens release is too long and keeps the camera lens release engaged. I took it off asap as I had a wedding to photograph. Disappointed 😔
So I guess when you are trying to film yourself in vertical mode you can’t actually swivel it to where you can pull the lcd screen towards you (pointing upwards)?
Would love to know if these work for bodies other than Sony, like Canon EF-M mounts as some of these are so similar in dimensions. Some declare Canon RF, but the EOS M lineup are much closer to Sony E profile.
@@rameses_ actually yes, I bought the Falcam one for my EOS M, and it works great, however the baseplate widens enough to block the battery door from fully opening, so you’ll need either a dummy battery setup for long term shoots, or you’d need to take off the half cage more frequently and replace with a quick release plate if you use the F38 system of plates. That sort of defeats the purpose for quick release, but as far as fitting the mount and rotating the camera, it does the job neatly. I can’t speak for others, but I would imagine the e mount options fit the EF-m cameras in most cases, with the only guarantee being the falcam as mentioned, with its battery door restriction caveat.
Fakkkk! I use falcam f38 everywhere and they betray me doing this only for sony cams. Got my atoll with a f38 plate under, but the single mount screw gets lose eventually. Good to sell all options side by side!
@@dunnadidit i talked personally with atoll and they said that they'd release some upgrade soon, like a suporte por cages and l brackets. I shoot with 2 r6 and I leave one full rig and other with all cleaned up with only atoll and a mall shotgun mic
Which one is the most gimbal friendly? :D (when you balance your camera horizontal and rotate it to vertical mode, which one gives you the best results and the lowest extra motor work)?
i don't understand why all these are made for a stills head mount and not extended for a base plate mount to fluid head which is functional for video. i would want some kind of extension plate 1/4-20 so i could center the full weight on the base plate of any fluid head and then rotate without the rig having to clear the end which puts all the weight in the back. all these designs fail for working pros in that regard. they should all be designed like a standard Removable Tripod Mount on any FE70-200 which has 360 rotation, easy adjustable mounting to any base plate, and easy on off removal. what in the world are they thinking?

Now I hear there is a NiSi which also comes in other mounts. The problem with UA-cam is a video can be outdated as soon as it is released.
I have the Atoll and will only support them! They thought of several camera brands and not just the Sony fanboys! Plus they were THE FIRST while the others copied them without making ANY improvements or changed!!!
Well there ya go!
@@dunnadidit What kind of reply is that!
Yep.
Which of these do you recommend for Sony ZV-E10 with tamrom 17-70 2.8 lens?
Which one works best for a telephoto (Sony 200-600mm) lens? Thx
Have you tried the Benro QRB95 Quick Rotating Bracket? I have the Atoll for the PD clip compatibilty :)
hi, can I use the atom collar with smallrig cage attach to my camera body?
I got an ulanzi pre-sale model. It has the button to release the lense. I wanted the falcam version but it wasn't out. Personaly this is a one and done purchase. I like it on my a6400 which is my photo camera. It does not work with my Tamron lenses at all. That's my biggest con.
Any idea if one of these would work to Hasselblad xd1ii with 45 p xcd lens?
I bought the small rig version and the lens doesn’t lock in. Maybe the SmallRig lens release is too long and keeps the camera lens release engaged. I took it off asap as I had a wedding to photograph. Disappointed 😔
Hi, I have a Sony A7iv and I use my Canon Glass with it, will the bracket work with this combination?
So I guess when you are trying to film yourself in vertical mode you can’t actually swivel it to where you can pull the lcd screen towards you (pointing upwards)?
Does it work with a cage on the camera?
Any way to use these or a competitor that works on full size Manfrotto-compatible plates?
Can I use Smallrig on A7iii?
Is the ulanzi x falcom mount also not compatible with tamron 35-150?
Would love to know if these work for bodies other than Sony, like Canon EF-M mounts as some of these are so similar in dimensions. Some declare Canon RF, but the EOS M lineup are much closer to Sony E profile.
Hello did you ever find out if any fit the ef-m mount ?
@@ryanleethomas that’s awesome! Thanks for the reply!
@@rameses_ of course!
Does the atoll fit on Sony a7iv with a full cage?
Hey bro, thanks for your video but I have a question. I need to use my Ronin RS3 in portrait mode. Do any of these work well for my purpose?
Has anyone found a way to use the Atoll when filming yourself in vertical? It doesn't rotate the other way to flip the screen out
Can I use this product with Sony A7M4 with 24-70 G-master lens and is it possible to balance on DJI Ronin RS3
Does any of these work if you already use a cage? (small rig full cage on A7C btw)
Do you know if any work on cages?
These ones don’t as far as I know. But I believe the new silence corner one that they have coming out later this month will
please advise me, i only have a 28-70mm kit lens and a72 body does it fit on ulanzi s63?
Are there any that work with `a6000 series?
Fakkkk! I use falcam f38 everywhere and they betray me doing this only for sony cams. Got my atoll with a f38 plate under, but the single mount screw gets lose eventually. Good to sell all options side by side!
Yeah would be nice to see these companies expand to some other options.
@@dunnadidit i talked personally with atoll and they said that they'd release some upgrade soon, like a suporte por cages and l brackets. I shoot with 2 r6 and I leave one full rig and other with all cleaned up with only atoll and a mall shotgun mic
which one is the most easy to change lens?
Smallrig for sure
Does anyone know if the Smallrig would fit on the a7c?
God bless you dude.
Man Dunna always messing up. Good thing your here Dunna to correct him. Good job 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Haha 😂
Which one is the most gimbal friendly? :D (when you balance your camera horizontal and rotate it to vertical mode, which one gives you the best results and the lowest extra motor work)?
5:33 can you open the memory card/battery door with the cage on?
I know this is old but yes is the answer
What about using them on a gimbal
Wait! - I don't have a cup to secure... this can of redbull will have to do :(
That works just fine!
@@dunnadidit whew, close call...
they all have the same problem, you can't rotate them 360 which makes it impossible to use the screen in portrait mode, I'm going to build one
Falcam.
Have you tried them with camera cages? If you did. Which one is compatible with camera cages?
i don't understand why all these are made for a stills head mount and not extended for a base plate mount to fluid head which is functional for video. i would want some kind of extension plate 1/4-20 so i could center the full weight on the base plate of any fluid head and then rotate without the rig having to clear the end which puts all the weight in the back. all these designs fail for working pros in that regard.
they should all be designed like a standard Removable Tripod Mount on any FE70-200 which has 360 rotation, easy adjustable mounting to any base plate, and easy on off removal. what in the world are they thinking?
Atoll is the innovator of this thing and the later is just a copycat ..... I am still loving my Atoll.
why would you want to go upside down??? just flip the image in post?
Atoll is 145€ in Germany. Overpriced! 😤
ulanzi with sirui sniper series not compatible on fx 30 🥲
L brackets are dead.
Good afternoon which bracket is best for the Nikon d850 with Nikon 16-35 + zoom lens please
