Al Matthews (Sgt. Apone) was not only former military, but according to his IMDB bio, "While on combat duty during the Vietnam War, Matthews became the first black Marine to be meritoriously promoted to the rank of Sergeant (E-5)." Oorah!
You guys know that halo really took a lot of inspiration from the way the military was depicted in this movies. Johnson and Capone are a lot alike not to mention the music aircraft spaceships gear etc. thought that was really awesome considering both the movie and game had a big part of my childhood.
it's one of the last movies where I actually remember literally being on the edge of my seat and at times even wanting to close my eyes in an actual cinema. Part of that is of course growing older and more blasé but I just remember that deep co-desire, to just get the fuck out of there and nuke the whole damn thing from orbit. I was pretty much down with Hudson on that particular "fuckin-A!"
Watching this made me search up the Alien cast memebers for anyone who had passed away and seeing that Al 'Sgt Apone' Matthews died September 2018 last year at 75 years old. He was a great job in his role, just as memorable as Ripley with half the screen time.
One of the greatest action sci-fi movies ever made, not to mention, in my humble opinion, my favorite of the Alien films, with the original just a razor's edge behind it. James Cameron knew how to take an existing property like Alien, and continue it properly.
His attention to detail is hugely what made this one so successful. It's all in the details. My favorite movie ever. The only truly scary film and the real special effects knocked this one out of the park. CGI can't compare.
I’ve long missed this form of Cameron. These days it’s all about making cgi cartoons. Whether old haters like me want to accept it or not, those types of action films are gone. Even if someone tried to emulate it, society has changed and expectations and exceptions have changed, the entire medium has changed. Where do we go from here?
It's scary how perfect this movie is. Adrenalin rush from beginning to end. I re-watch this every year and the thing that amazes me the most is how well written and performed the characters are. Everyone on that set actually feel and act like you would expect normal everyday people would, it makes you heavily invested and immersed in the story because of it. It's just something you never really see with modern movies any more. Hudson asking Vasquez if she'd ever been mistaken as a man and Vasquez replying "No, have you?" will always be hilarious. And in my opinion the most bad ass scene in film history is when Ripley is tooling up to go after Newt. Slapping guns together with duct tape, standing in the elevator psyching her self up to save someone she cares about, while absolutely terrified. Bad ass on another level.
this. I'm 37 ....so as a kid in the 80s....Vasquez to me was such a bad ass hero....after my mom..."she" was my first introduction of a woman hero/bad ass.
No matter what Hollywood brings out right now and in the future sci fi/action wise nothing will ever compete with the greatness of this movie... so many iconic moments in this masterpiece that will stay with me forever 🙌👍
Apone: All right, sweethearts, what are you waiting for? Breakfast in bed? It's another glorious day in the Corps. A day in the Marine Corps is like a day on the farm: Every meal's a banquet. Every paycheck's a fortune! Every formation's a parade! I love the Corps!
Im ex military and that man and the sergeant from full metal jacket are the only 2 actors Ive seen that impressed me and gave a real military presence.
Without the need to push Female SJW politics down our necks. We always had great female leads in our movies. But now the Females are just sickening to watch. This is why the men are leaving these movies behind, Can’t blame them.
Seriously ... thank you all for giving us one of the best movies ever made by the dying empire. You all were awesome. Good story ... Perfect actors/actresses and awesome performances. Thanks!!!
For anyone here who has played the awesome video game "ALIEN: Isolation", William Hope, who played Lt. Gorman in Aliens, voices the Sevastapol Station's security marshall. I also thought it was great that they were able to get most of the cast together to reprise their roles from the original Alien in voice acting. The only ones missing were John Hurt (because, well, Kane was dead), and Ian Holm. They got another voice actor for Ash.
I'd say Jeanette to Vasquez is quite possibly one of cinemas all time greatest tricks on the audience when you exclude add on costumes fat suits wigs etc.......the transformation is quite remarkable even now after 35 odd years.......JG really scored.
Watched it when it first came out in the theaters and just recently watched it again for the millionth time. Still way better than anything else in this genre. Partly because there is very little, if any, talent in Hollywood now.
Fun Fact: Jeanette Goldstein (Vazquez) played John Connor's foster mom in Terminator 2. One of the best latina heroine characters and she's not even latina.

Easily one of my top 5 favorite movies ever. One of the many examples of movies from the 80's and 90's with strong female characters who were still flawed and interesting, and in which the filmmakers didn't feel the need to bang a drum about it or try to emasculate the male characters. Thanks for the video. I hadn't seen these particular interview snippets before, I don't think.
