Can you imagine the hilarity of an Aliens spoof skit..the Marines doing there walk through trying to figure out what happened at Hadley's Hope...and when entering the nest...they see the Aliens sitting around just glancing at the marines...while enjoying tea time 🤣🤣
Fantastic insight into this amazing film and shows how America and Britain can come together to make a great production. James was very close to some of his British co workers, and Sigourney's parents were English, so it's silly to bad mouth each country, everyone has ties to the other :-)
Just some minor cultural differences. We Brits often say 'love' to a woman like we say 'mate' to a man, its a non issue with no sexual, sexist or romantic intent. I don't agree with the Yanks on the tea breaks either as 15 mins is nothing and you'll find their productivity would have incresed after a cuppa and a sandwhich. And if calling Cameron 'grizzly adams' is the rudest thing Lance Henrickson has ever heard, he's led a very sheltered life for a New Yorker.....
It's nuts that the guy in charge of makeup on Aliens in named Peter Robb King, while the makeup artist on The Lord of the Rings is named Peter Swords King. Almost thought they were the same guy!
Nothing good ever comes out of everything going smoothly. Take your pick from any rock band in history, their best stuff happened when they were at each others' throats. And so it proved with 'Aliens'.
"Even though we speak the same language, it's a different language, I mean these... they're different than us." We certainly are. You won't catch us saying "different THAN..." It sounds so wrong! :P
I get why Jeanette took umbridge with the AD calling her "love"......im Britain its not meant in any way to be derogatory but i can imagine the actress on set wanted to stay focussed in the badass role of Vasquez and being called love between takes.....well I just get it.
Truly great directors, managers, captains, leaders etc etc, have high levels of skill and ability matched with excellent people management skills. That's why there are so few of them in the world....
The TEA-AHOLIC island that is known as the UK, has produced Ridley Scott, Christopher Nolan, JK Rowling, JRR Tolkien, Coldplay, Adele, Shakespeare and the Beatles... so there must be something in the TEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D
Tea or not, British film crews are the best in the world and were in constant demand in the 70s and 80s. Their genius is up there on the screen. 2001, The Shining, Star Wars, Superman, Indiana Jones, Aliens. Oh, did I mention James Bond? I'm a Brit and very proud of it. Tea and a lunchtime pint gives us our power....
Well said, this is why Fox sent the production team to Pinewood. Cameron is an amazing director and the Brit's were amazing set creators which resulted in one AMAZING film.
@@ohio He was on a tight time schedule, from what I understand the film hardly got done in time, so I don't see how it's fair to blame him for getting annoyed when a shot gets interrupted. Christian Bale also got quite annoyed in a similar fashion working on Terminator Salvation, and he's a Brit.
It was all a huge clash of cultures betwn the Brits & the Americans on the Aliens set..the key was to accomodate each other..the Americans were single-minded on the job at hand & the director wanted the whole thing to wrap on time, in order to avoid additional costs & break the given budget..but the Brits were more laid-back & simply wanted to play..the tension betwn them actually had enough drama to make a movie within a movie..if only they were each informed beforehand abt each other's working style.. & the poor tea lady must have wondered why the constant angry look on James Cameron face everytime she walked in with the goodies..if only she knew she was possibly one of the causes that could have cost Cameron a few extra millions..😉😆!
To be honest, Aliens is one if the greatest Sci Fi horror movies ever and James Cameron is a very difficult person to work with, that is obvious so nobody should mince their words.
I can understand the tight budget and time constraints but when dealing with people you must remember they are not machines. People can be tricky things when attempting to get their best work out of them. There comes a time when concessions must be made to keep the crew somewhat happy with what they are doing which will be reflected in the quality of work they perform. A great leader knows how to get the best out of his people and this is an attribute overlooked by many folks in leadership roles that think that everyone has to bow and do everything as they say without any regard to those folks own humanity. Just a small compliment or calling someone by name when directing them can work wonders on that persons attitude throughout the day because they have been humanized instead of being treated like a machine. Many organizations have around a ten minute pow wow time before starting a shift just to let folks voice some thoughts or exchange pleasantries and have found this keeps the crew happy and their production goes up and more than covers for the loss of the ten minutes work time because this lets folks know they are not thought of as machines to be turned on at shift start and turned off when the shift is over.
Exactly. All the Brits defending this crew are out of order. There's no excuse for being that slack on a tight schedule. If you're employed by someone and you know that the schedule is short, I think it's about time to stop fucking around. For example, if I were a CEO going overseas to lead a team, and they all insisted on regular breaks. And when I complained about it, they call me ignorant and tell me to go back to my own country. It's a bogus excuse. This crew were unprofessional.
The production of Aliens seems to have the best 'behind the scenes' stories ever, from the tealady to the lottery to the clash with the british, It was probabley a nightmare shoot... but it aint half funny!!!
OK, I'm British, and I've NEVER been able to have a tea break after an hour of working. I'd be fired in an instant if I ever tried that shit. I'm clearly in the wrong game.
I'm sure the film studio in Britain is very proud of their involvement in the film and touts it locally. I wouldn't have thought quite to such a degree but the amount of British comments on this video is undeniable. For only 43k views, if it was truly a random sample of Americans and British, there shouldn't be that many British. Maybe it is just coincidence but few things are.
When in Rome. I once worked on a ferries back and forth to Ireland, A American women come to the bureau to complain she had lost her expenive hat over board while walking on the boat deck, and trying to claim some compo. But the stewardess wasn,t having that. So she said leave your name and address and we will pick it up on the way back. the women went away happy. what can you say, Yanks are the same all over the world. This lack of indifference speaks volumes
Guys Chill out it was 1985!!! tea time is not a "thing" it's just just a roll, tea and coffee. if you're on a film set all day building and taking orders you'll probably need something to eat or some caffeine.
At the time Cameron made this the UK film industry was very old fashioned and still unionised to an extent. it wasn't at all like the commercial, corporate way of doing things they way they are done in the US. Cameron may have had problems byt Lucas had it even worse in the 70s. its amazing anyone ever made films in England.
Kubrick didn't seem to mind it. And his films are 100 leagues above Lucas and James Cameron. Of course his movies were made for adults. Also James Cameron is known asshole
It's all very well saying Tea is gay (how does what you drink, & what you like the taste of define your sexuality?) & how could we not see the genius of Cameron's vision, & so forth. But that's just it.. It's Cameron's Pet Project. And all those thousand other people who helped to make this film get no recognition for torturing themselves to get it all done his way. Cameron is the one who gets the praise. No one else. We don't even know their names. Tea is good for you & we're not a fat nation.
AMERICANS AND BRITISH.... ATTENTION!!!!!!. There have been 4 Alien movies. Each film has talent involved from all over the World. Alien = British director Aliens = Canadian director Alien 3 = American director Alien Resurrection = French director Peace from England :P
Hahaha.... the same thing happened to poor George Lucas when he filmed the first Star Wars film. None of the English production crew 'got' his vision and thought it was all a joke, especially when Chewbacca appeared :P
People have different standards, cultures, and raising and sometimes those standards clash. It's normal. Ultimately though, the bottom line is James was the boss and those were his workers.
We may both speak " English" ---------- but we are so ---------SO------different, it's easy to understand just how tircky making a film in Britian can be for an American director, cast, & producer. ---------Having been there, I can attest : we are soooooooo different ! and, in both Wales & Scotland I had NO IDEA what people were saying to me, at 1st. Even in Northern England -----Birmingham-----it's very tough to understand people until you get used to hearing the language, over & over. ----Of course, Brits can struggle here, also. ---------------------WolfSky9, 72 y/o
I think some of these guys needed to lighten up at the time. Who cares if there are little differences between English culture and American culture. Nothing that they say here sounds that big a deal.
It is the same psychology where you look at the photos that fans send natalie tran on communitychannel. She is asian and surprise so are most of the pics people send in. In other words, they watch her only because they relate to her and that is dumb. A black guy shouldn't always pick another black guy as his favorite actor but most do.
The difference being one's an actual person and the other's a film. It can be easy to tell someone's nationality or ethnicity by their appearance. With a film you'd have to look into it's production by, say, watching a documentary on it to know how many of it's crew were a certain nationality. Aliens having a British involvement is hardly common knowledge.
I'll admit the Brits have their way of doing things and so do Americans. But from Cameron's point of view when you have producers breathing down your throught and you have limited time and money, and you are extremely passionate about what your doing. Maybe, one can skip the tea and crumpets!
Sigourney Weaver mentions that Cameron is a Canadian. Yet all the comments say he's American. Makes me think all the people posting aren't watching the video.
I didn't know that this film had any large amount of European people involved in it's production until watching this documentary. I seriously doubt anybody came here just because of that. It's more likely that a Brit would feel obligated to comment because the video and comment section is talking about them (although lots of people seem to be confusing 'the crew' with 'all British people'). Why does it matter anyway?
Fascinating correct me if I’m wrong not quite sure in modern times but it was always frowned upon for Americans to even request holiday / vacations never mind a tea break 😂 you think the British are bad try the Europeans 😂😂😂😂😂
No response? Come on, tell me more about how Lance was 'so disrespectful', while completely overlooking the appauling attitude of the film crew who worked on this movie.
You know you Brits did not listen to instructions and had a tea break at any time without warning. Do you think that Amercians were disrespectful to the Brits if the Brits were the ones not listening?
The fact of the matter is that Jim Cameron is the boss. If you're getting paid to do a job, you do it. That doesn't mean dicking around taking tea breaks every hour, then refusing to do overtime because of the great big hole in schedule you've left as a result of all your breaks. This isn't a matter of respecting British culture; it's a matter of getting a slack crew to pull their fingers out and do some work. I'm on Cameron's side.
Why are there so many British commenting on this video? Statisically, the American population is far larger. Did you end up on this video because it was made in Britian? Your presence on this video is highly disproportionate and indicates a sense of national pride brought you here. Rather than an appreciation for a fine film.
Oh also, Lance wasn't being rude; he was pointing out that British and American English is very different, but I didn't see rudeness anywhere. But it was also rude of your British crew to call Jim grizzly adams. You're just picking and choosing to make your side sound better. Pathetic.
Furthermore, I didn't realize that taking a break to have some tea every hour is common business practise in Britain. Sounds like an idiotic ploy to get out of doing more work to me. But since you're defending their actions (which are almost comically stereotypical in their ignorance), then I guess you won't mind if other stereotypes are raised, such as the fact you all have bad teeth over there.
Can you imagine the hilarity of an Aliens spoof skit..the Marines doing there walk through trying to figure out what happened at Hadley's Hope...and when entering the nest...they see the Aliens sitting around just glancing at the marines...while enjoying tea time 🤣🤣
Despite all the road blocks James Cameron made the the best sci fi action movie ever!!!
I love the complete contradiction from 1:53 compared to 1:58
Whoever edited this documentary is/are amazing for that
Fantastic insight into this amazing film and shows how America and Britain can come together to make a great production. James was very close to some of his British co workers, and Sigourney's parents were English, so it's silly to bad mouth each country, everyone has ties to the other :-)
3:32 - a clash over "tea time". lol
Yeah someone lays a hand on his chest and he flips his shit but calling Jim "Grizzly Adams" is taking it too far, what a fucking nutter XD
It's nuts that the guy in charge of makeup on Aliens in named Peter Robb King, while the makeup artist on The Lord of the Rings is named Peter Swords King. Almost thought they were the same guy!
Aliens is my all time favorite film. probably one of the few films were the 2nd film is better than the 1st
Nothing good ever comes out of everything going smoothly. Take your pick from any rock band in history, their best stuff happened when they were at each others' throats. And so it proved with 'Aliens'.

I get why Jeanette took umbridge with the AD calling her "love"......im Britain its not meant in any way to be derogatory but i can imagine the actress on set wanted to stay focussed in the badass role of Vasquez and being called love between takes.....well I just get it.
Correction, Cameron was a 'young, dynamic, CANADIAN director'

It sucks that the Brits back then couldn't get around 2 seeing the genius of Cameron like his movie Terminator. Shame.
3:45 Ron Jeremy. hahahaha
My thoughts exactly lol
Was just gonna write that!
Too much porn

To be honest, Aliens is one if the greatest Sci Fi horror movies ever and James Cameron is a very difficult person to work with, that is obvious so nobody should mince their words.
James Cameron should ve gotten a latino crew. We are such good workers and so inexpensive you can hear Americans screaming "they tooookk ouu jaaabbs"!
I can understand the tight budget and time constraints but when dealing with people you must remember they are not machines. Well it all turned out well in the end great movie
Cultures can clash, but we don't know could been egos on all fronts. In the long run who cares about the drama a brilliant film was made.

I would want to see a scene with a bitter fight between ripley and the alien queen and at the climax BAM! enter the Tea Lady XD
Guys Chill out it was 1985!!! tea time is not a "thing" it's just just a roll, tea and coffee. if you're on a film set all day building and taking orders you'll probably need something to eat or some caffeine.
Have a protein bar and get back to work.
"Even though we speak the same language they're different to us", yep that about sums us up!
Started at 6am, had a 15 minute break at 10am. Pay a-fucking-ttention.
LOL around the 4:20 mark, I said 'passionate' out loud to myself before Beihn said it.

@herrgolf Nope we still get tea breaks. And biscuits too.
LOL at 3:29 those two guys look like Kevin Spacey and Tom Cruise...
Out of tension comes great things.
"If you ever touch me again I'm gonna kick your ass"
"Bring in the artistes !" .... "Hey, are you a wise guy !"
6:39 Cameron's Body Language says it all

Wow the brittish film industry sure has changed, now we have Tea breaks at 11

James Cameron sounds like a pain in the ass to work with. They're using a lot of code words for that.
Yes brits and yanks are a world apart ..always have been always will be..
That is EXACTLY the way I feel about it. :P

That's why we sent Christian Bale over to be rude to you upstart yanks! : )

Maybe just skip lunch too? fuck it, why dont we just work for free.
Teaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa fuck yeah.
The thing is British people do not react well to Americans generally speaking.
There is, I've seen them.
Sigourney Weaver mentions that Cameron is a Canadian. Yet all the comments say he's American. Makes me think all the people posting aren't watching the video.
+WalterLiddy You realize Canada is in America, right?
We worked well together during WWII, but making Aliens was too difficult? Are you fucking kidding me???
for me they are all good, but yes, the 4th one is the worst. Alien, Aliens, Predator and The Thing are the benchmark in sci fi horror
hahaha you can take our colonies but you'll never take our tea
@dvarblo It's not that, its just that in NYC, you don't put your hands on someone you don't know. Unless you want to get into a fight.
2:50 lol
He was unknown then. He'd only done the Terminator which was a slow hit here.
I enjoy watching films with Lance Henrickson, he's played a lot great roles but he comes off as a bit of an arse here.
haha wow, alotta drama on the set..funny stories
I didn't know that this film had any large amount of European people involved in it's production until watching this documentary. I seriously doubt anybody came here just because of that.

James Remar would've been a kick-ass Hicks.
@herrgolf what?

@DaniLPG Agreed. Yank cheek.
it was what it was I guess.
gotta love the embarrassing British vs American comments on here
1. place: Canada. 2 place: Britain. 3 place: America. Toilet: France.
lol - that wouldn't go down well...
@simolui but they can probably spell...
At least the British lads were teaching the Yanks how to be civilised while working.....hehehe.....
@CamiloSanchez1979 lol.. ermanno te amo
Milk and two sugars love, ta.
You know you Brits did not listen to instructions and had a tea break at any time without warning. Do you think that Amercians were disrespectful to the Brits if the Brits were the ones not listening?
This
@gamesbloke It's not tea time get back to work.

TO THE ""ARROGANT"" BRITISH ! ..THIS MOVIE WAS AND IS THE BEST OF THE "ALIEN" SERIES !
Drama DRAMA
Why are there so many British commenting on this video? Statisically, the American population is far larger. Did you end up on this video because it was made in Britian? Lance sounded like a robot to me
lawl brits vs americans
Your obviously not a fan of the French lol
Furthermore, I didn't realize that taking a break to have some tea every hour is common business practise in Britain. Sounds like an idiotic ploy to get out of doing more work to me.
But since you're defending their actions (which are almost comically stereotypical in their ignorance), then I guess you won't mind if other stereotypes are raised, such as the fact you all have bad teeth over there.
