The Wikipedia article on Pat Weaver states that as president of the network "he required NBC shows to include at least one sophisticated cultural reference or performance per installment."
Fun interview! I just watched Sigourney in Alien No1,2,3 to prepare for the upcoming "Romulus" film, Ripley was such a great role. (When she mentioned the chimp in the studio I immediately thought of Gordy and Jupe in "Nope".)
I lived with an orangutan for 6 months. His name was Locke and was the equivalent of a 6 year old boy in orang terms although already several times stronger than I (he just didn't know it yet). He was owned by a Hollywood animal wrangler and I took on the 'babysitting' job when he temporarily ran out of space. I had a large 3600 sqft fero-cement geodesic dome in Topanga Cyn with enough space and already no stranger to chaos. We had a nice time together, he dragging me around by my pant leg and stealing my beer, and me changing his diapers. He was not only intelligent but also a delightfully manipulative schemer. Once while watching TV together he snuggled up to me and pretended to kiss me and all the while his other arm (remember he had 4 of them) was reaching around for my rootbeer. The rascal quickly made it to the 2nd floor and finished it off before coming back downstairs asking me to change his nappies! Miss the little fella
@@sopastar Being in a very fire prone area surrounded by scrub brush we thought we'd give it a try to see how fire-resistant it was. Additionally we got a hold of a large quantity of special launchpad paint from friends in the aerospace industry which in the presence of high heat lifts off the surface and creates a thermal barrier that helps protect the pad & superstructure. We got the Moser Bros fero-cement boat builders out of Marina del Rey to shoot the shell which required us to cover the entire surface with 9 layers of sturdy wire mesh & chickenwire tied off with solid wire every 2-3 inches which took several weeks. The cement shoot was done in one day. During my years there we never had a fire come through our particular gully even though several fires raged past us within a mile or so, but some time after I sold the property the dome was hit full force. The structure & everything inside survived. So I guess it was a successful experiment. By then I had experimented with several different materials & designs for dome skins but this was the most ambitious. It was eventually torn down and replaced with large homes. It had a beautiful 240 degree view of the ocean & LA on 5 acres. Had great times there.
No, she's talking about the filming of Alien 3 here. Fincher is the director and the friend is unnamed, but she made the sentence confusing by interrupting herself to insert the director's name.
When the sun shines in the sky and everything is bright, it feels like being with Sigourney. Her goodness shines down on me. Sig is sweet: evokes religious feelings. She is the shining sun herself.
Great show as always, one of my favorites, I wrote 19 books, one one the way, I've been guest spots for quite a few podcasts, I also run a podcast, having a radio background previously, with Paranormal King Radio for couple years, now I run Mystic Whispers Podcast, hope to be your guest one day!
Good Lord! Dave threw me off there for a sec... I thought Sigourney left us... Dave has a tendency to post a memory of an interview with a recently departed In Memoriam... That woman has been a bit of an icon for me. Being 5''11ft tall myself, for a woman, is rather unconventional for which I got a lot of grief, and her portrayal of Sgt. Ripley in the Alien movies ( however some of them movies sucked so bad because directed / script bad ) has been a bit of a "big sister" figure for me. How to stand tall against impossible odds and to keep being the standard you believe in, even against all odds. I thought we lost her...And it made me feel all sad... Am glad she's still with us.
Mr Letterman, you all producers, I hope you realize how generous sigourney Weaver was and putting up with this crappy interview. As much as I love Dave you producers in the show this was just not his best interview. Keep on keepin on ❤️✌️🤓👍
Don't agree, the NBC Dave show was not about the guest, it was about Dave's reaction to the guest. Weaver was up for it and I thought Dave and Sigouney did a great job.
@@funkymunky well... Sigourney Weaver was 29 years old and 6 feet tall when she played Ellen Ripley, first officer of the Nostromo and its sole survivor in the 1979 ... so... I guess... one of us is right.

Her characters are always so intense and serious, that sometimes we don't see how sweet is her smile. Lovely woman.
Sigourney has always been so poised and intense, it’s so cute to see her laugh.
I love her since 1979!! She is one of my all-time greatest actress in the world.
Face it, she's awesome.
Classy and very smart, no wonder she gave that astronaut vibe so well in the Alien movies.
Ms. Sigourney Weaver has always been entertaining as well as classy in every interview I've seen her in...and I've seen quite a few!
She was so cute and funny when she started swinging her earrings around. 😂
She really wanted to do Ghostbusters because she wanted to be funny, but they gave her an almost completely straight man role.
@@jedijonesBut she was still a hoot and VERY funny in Working Girl.

Nowadays they require multiple references to promote Democrat candidates for office.

The NBC letterman days…SW is one of the great ones!
You’re absolutely right. One of the reasons why DEI hires don’t work is because she is so fantastic at her job.
Love how she casually drops the name of the director's friend: David Fincher!
The director was David Fincher and the friend was unnamed. She made the sentence confusing by interrupting herself to insert the director's name.
Not sure if we deserve Sigourney Weaver, but we'll make the best of it.
Of all the crazy things she talks about, the one that stands out for me is the fact that comic actor Doodles Weaver was her uncle.

James Cameron and David Fincher were friends during Aliens? No wonder he called him out once on how bad Alien 3 was. Fox/Disney removed that video.
