Only Canadians can comprehend that. They are a rather weird lot when it comes to sentences for heinous crimes. Life sentences have been given, but it is rare, as far as I can see. Laughable sentences as in this case are the most common occurrence.
They are not alone. Things in the UK and Australia are not much diferent. In fact, it is like that also all across the European Union.
The only country in the industrialised west with tough punishments for murderers is the USA.

When you're the victim you are pretty much forgotten. The focus then shifts to the murderer. Did they get a fair trial? Were they abused as children? Were they bullied? Did they wet the bed? It's so wrong, but its what happens especially in the U.S.

Canada is off when it comes to their justice system. I seen another video where a couple was kidnapping raping and murdering young girls. One of the victims was the female suspects younger sister....she lured her own sister to be raped and murdered. Not only did she do less than 15 years(12)but she was working in a middle school after her release.

Props to the undercover team who were able to convince Renee to tell them what he did, I'm sure it must have been very difficult to play it cool and not seem like cops for as long as they did. And the brother. I can only hope he finds peace in his heart one day. The loss of a sibling no matter how old you are is tragic. All those memories you have of them growing up. I retired at age 62. I am now 69. I was fortunate to be able to retire with my dignity and some financial stability. To be murdered at this later date in my life ---- I would have lost a time in my life I have been so lucky and able to do things I so wanted to do when I retired. That's the lens I see this tragedy through. And to top this off --- two people finding the love of another at this point in their life 💘. So cruel.

Canada, Europe, South American countries, do not have capital punishment, nor life in prison. Some, life in prison does not mean life. They will parole before 20 years. Brazil for example, no one stays more than forty years. If you get 40, you will serve maybe 12. Before 2019 it was 30 years maximum. But you will leave prison after 6 or 7. Many will kill it again. Drug trafficker or organized crime, some times stayed for 20. But it is rare, and they run crime behind prison walls. So corruption is everywhere. One guy, he served if I am not mistaken 30 years, or a little more. But he kept killing other inmates. He said he killed over 100 people. Well, he didn’t last long on the out side, he was killed this year. He said he was a born again Christian.
