    TIRED OF YOUR STRING BREAKING TO MUCH THEN READ THIS? Trimmer string after it gets made can sit in the warehouse for a long months before it even gets to the store and sold. So usually, it's already very dried out and brittle before you even get a chance to use it. So, it's brittle when you buy it so an easy great trick is soaking the whole roll fully submerged in water for several hours or a day. Makes it much more flexible and will last much longer. Oh, and for gas trimmers only buy .095 or larger and only in the round. The string that are a hex shape or has sharp edges are just sales hype and do not last near as long as round string nor work as good as round string, Also the heck shaped or tones with sharp edges if you've noticed always get stuck in the head of the trimmer not allowing you to get more string out. So, soak your string in water even if you just bought it and only buy round string. Any string under .095 thickness less powered electric trimmers.

      What if you're going thru johnson grass and ragweed, the string lasts all of about 2 seconds.
      I have an echo walkbehind weed trimmer and toying with putting a brush blade on it?

    I was thinking of trying this. After seeing how it frays, I will not be trying it.

    I knew that solder wasnt gonna hold up. Not sure if brazing or welding the ends would hold up better or not but it might. Another thing you could try is swaging an aluminum or copper stop on the end of the cable.

    I have same idea using bicycle brake cable on my hand held grass trimmer. Haven't tried it yet, but thought ahead about the fraying. What if you solder every other inch along the cable to allow minimal fraying?
    I also thought about leaving the plastic casing on it to help prevent this problem. I only intend to cut grass and common weeds not brush or heavy vines.
    Let me know if you try it and I'll do the same as soon as I can get around to it.
    Any comments welcome

    have you thought about chainsaw chain? i think i will try that

  • @geraldnaylor1087

    So I would imagine it would do the same thing if one were to take a long piece of cable and double it over and put the loop end out? I would think it would especially if you were to run it over concrete, rocks and so on a lot.

    Bolt on a round disc with 2 or 4 evenly spaced holes around the edge and then bolt on some double edged disc mower blades into those holes and viola!
    You will then be able to cut through small trees if you like, Do this at your own risk of course...

    Why not use a round blade?

  • @scottheswingman.2423
    @scottheswingman.2423 2 роки тому +4

    Do not. I repeat, do not bolt a piece of small chain to the head as it will hurt like hell when it breaks and hits your foot or leg. Yes i did it and was lucky it didn't break my foot.

    Just use a generic star shaped blade?

    The cable you used is obviously too thick, like blade, the cable needs to be thin and strong.

    Why not use baylin wire? I'm currently thinking about trying that on my hand tremor

    • @alejandrohernandez2607
      @alejandrohernandez2607 Рік тому

      Baylin wire is too fragile it didn't even cut a single stock of grass if you want something durable look up steel trimmer line this trimmer line consist of a thin steel cable encased in nylon it's kinda expensive at $30 for a spool of trimmer line but I feel that it is worth the investment since it was thought to be highly durable

    • @argonzeit

      Thought about finding some durable chain and trying that out.

    How about a single strand metal cable such as barbed wire with the sharp points removed of course.

      Don't bother I tried that idea with fence wire and it broke much more sooner than plastic trimmer line

    I put steel cable on my stihl trimmer & thought it would work. That's a big fat NO. It screwed my motor up & ruined it. . Do not try this on the lightest Stihl. It is too light to handle it.

    You hide the belt tensioner from the camera on purpose I think.
    It's there for a reason. Let off tension and fix/change the belt.
    Solder the entire cable, not just the ends.

    • @davidleatherneck
      @davidleatherneck Рік тому

      Ya, I was going to Say. Idler pully is spring loaded and can take the tension off the belt for removal.
