You are a patient man. I would junk it if it didn't start.
I personally would have taken it back to the store on the first day when it wouldn't start and gotten my money back. $500 is way too much money to lose on junk equipment straight from the factory. Is there a reason you didn't return it that first day?
I'm not understanding why he didn't take it back as well? This is basically retarded.
Exactly what I was saying during the whole video.
I thought I just didn't know how to use it. 😮
I had the same problem from day one. It's hit or miss if it will start. I would even drag it to cement pad thinking that would help. Works great when on, but once it shuts off can't get it back on most off the time.
The primer on my Tazz walk behind (Chinese) requires a 2 second wait between pushes. This is called for in the manual. The directions are to give 3 pushes when cold and no priming when warm. It starts first pull every time.
I've been using it for 3 years now.
I think after you couldnt get it started when it was new..that was your free warning that it's a POS and you should return it.
I responded above. Diagnose and fix it, or return it.
The sad thing here I was that even some of the name brand items are 'made in China'.. I have yet to find ANYTHING that is made in China to work for long.
put a new spark plug in it-those torch plugs that come with a lot of new equipment are junk
You got that right! A friend had a brand new Predator motor and it was hard to start. I told him to get a better quality spark plug, and it started on first pull every time after that
I try and stay away from that off brand stuff, it’s been hit and miss for me, not worth it. I like that you show the good and the bad.
Amazon has new carburetor kits cheap . Your jets are clogged up or you have debris clogging up the system.
Also does it have oil in it?
All simple fixes. All small engines should be kept inside out of the elements. That's common sense. Take care of your equipment. Wah wah wah wah wah wah wah
You and I agree, keep it out of the elements, and understand how it works and to diagnose problems. I commented above. I thinks so too, a fuel delivery problem, chase the problem or return.
Hi Brock. That trimmer is very frustrating .A carburetor for that small motor is probably less than 30 bucks. Before you throw it out or sell it ,I would try a new one.Bottom line, you should never have to do this with a new piece of equipment.
Course, should have taken it back a year ago, probably our of fate now. Carb has done problem with it. Surging is generally junk in the metering jet. Pull it apart and clean it. But that's the tlc you said you don't want to do for it. Can't blame ya.
I see what's wrong.... dont hold that handle down when you're trying to start it. That little handle engages the spinning head. Holding that down makes it tough to start. Just don't hold the little handle down. Bet it starts
Just finished your video... something isn't right. Shouldn't have to go back and forth over that. Should be able to just walk through it and keep going... and please tighten that body up on that thing....rattles like a sum bitch. Lol
As soon as I heard him say it was a floor model that was getting left outside I was thinking it should have been 50% off
😊plastic carburetors are just junk and it seems that is what most of them come with nowadays….
If you do not take care of your equipment, your equipment will not take care of you.
I don't blame you for being fruststated, Brock. I had a very similar issue with the same type of machine. Thanks for the review! Take care 👍
I got one question why didn't you take it back when it first didn't start when you got it on or maybe two questions did you try to start it at the store because it was already built
DR trimmer/mower are pretty expensive and made- in - American. I prefer to spending $1 thousands dollars for DR trimmer mower high wheels with a Beaver Blades chainsaw attachment and bigger engine of 8 horsepower 4 cycle without adding oil gas together in the mower and using a battery key started without damaging my shoulder and arm.
I think I would “accidentally “ back over it again. 😊 doing chores are hard enough without the frustration of it not running properly.
I bought a DR trimmer years ago. Sent it back to them within a week. Lucky for me they paid the shipping on the returns back then. I wanted it to trim a fence line and around my pond. In my opinion they are useless. Handheld trimmer is faster and easier. If only someone would make one with an offset head. Then they might be useful.
Which one did you get? I got the older version of the pro 7.5 with the quick-lock trimmer head, right now I'm using the 225 mil saw tooth line, when I run out I'm going to upgrade to the 255 mil saw blade line. I have mobility issues so having a trimmer I can push and not carry is a great help.
The heads are offset on the new ones.
I cover my engines that have to sit outside with a plastic tote upside down.
Check to make sure Carb is not loose. Had a tiller do this, the plastic manifold between the carb and head was cracked. The engine ran lean, which caused it to overheat. My guess is a loose carb. The same thing happened to my Predator post-hole digger. Tightened the carb and ran like a champ. Great info. I have the Dirty Hand Tools version of this with a Kohler 6.5 Runs like a champ. Good for ditches.
Replace the spark plug, if it says Torch on the plug, pull it and chuck it. Put a champion or ngk plug in it. Those China plugs are known to cause starting problems and to quit when hot
Don't worry about feeling stupid - you get used to it.
I purchased the DR Power trimmer . . . two pulls and it fires up. I think you got a bad machine my friend.
spark plug gap
I’ve had the cub cadet version for 5 years and LOVE it.
You're blessed. I have the same and it never starts after downtime.
I totally agree Brock...I rarely shop at Home Depot, and only buy name brand at a place with a mechanic that will work on it. Every piece of equipment will fail at some time and need repair and/or parts.
This is some of the dumbest s*** I've seen in a while. You buy a brand new piece of equipment. It doesn't work right. So what do you do? Take it back? NO?! You do retarded sh**. This guy is a f***ing imbecile.
It's an air/fuel mixture problem. 1. Look down its throat hole and make sure the choke butterfly is fully opening when the choke lever stops moving (I don't think it's that because that wouldn't explain the hard starting but something to rule out) 2. While it's running close the choke a little at a time and if it runs smoother then you have a fuel restriction, if it runs worse or dies then you are getting to much fuel. 3. While it's running full speed put your hand over its throat hole and completely suffocate it till it dies, you want all the engine vacuum to be contained in the carb. Start it back up, (it'll black smoke for a second or two no big deal) this will hopefully dislodge any trash that might be clogging an orifice inside the carb, it might take two or three times of this. Anything further than this the carb will have to come apart to look everything over. 4. And this is the most important one of all...Stop letting your wife make decisions!! Have a great day
YOU know your stuff !!
Somtimes the cable stretches to the the safety start bar, or is too long to begin with. If it doesn't start, or starts to die, bypass it by pulling back manually at the carburetor. If that doesn't work, another common problem is poor venting gas cap. If it dies, take off the gas cap, then put it back on. If it runs for a while, then quits, you need a new cap, or check the vent holes on the old one. These are usually factory sealed, and all you can do is soke it, and blow it out. It is less trouble just to get a new one, and soak the old for later.
If it has a 650 series Briggs and Stratton, it could also have a damaged or missing intake manifold gasket where the manifold meets the cylinder. I found one of these where it was shipped from the factory without one, and it was drawing in excess air and dirt. It would start hard, requiring 10 or more pushes on the primer bulb. The threads of the bolts were run all the way down, but the manifold was just a little loose, rattling around. It was nearly 20 years old, built in 2006, and after a new coil (which bench checked bad), plug, and carburetor (the float cup attachment body had partially dissolved) , it started first pull. I put a new primer bulb in it too, but it starts without it, and now runs until out of gas, or you get tired. I also tossed the resistor plug, and replaced it with a comparable non-resistor type. Before I had worked on it, nothing had ever needed done to it but annual oil, plug and air filter changes, and lots of pulls on the starter rope. When it quit originally, it had been left out in the weather for two years, which explained the bad coil, and water in the carburetor bowl dissolving the works. It also had a frayed kill wire, which might have caused some problems. However, if that hadn't of happened, I wouldn't have discovered the missing gasket, and the whole thing might have ended up in the trash out of pure frustration with it.
@@danoakes4071 Good find !!
You will feal better if you tie that behind your car and drag it down the interstate
Brock, we've ALL been bitten by cheap Chinese knock-off products at least once. Fool me once... The lesson you just learned will last a lifetime. Having said that, I agree with the comment below. Throw a new carb on it, if that doesn't work, film a video of you placing it on top of a huge burn pile with your escavator, for a closing to. your 3-part review. LOL. We've all been burned at sometime, but I for one never forgot the lesson. Thanks for bringing us along.
I’d give Billy a call, tell him to bring the mini-x over and put that thing out of it’s misery.
Odd, we bought one new, and used it a bunch of times on our tree farm to cut saplings and weeds, and it works great. We paid $229 on sale, looking for a second one a that price. Ours starts up with one or two pulls each time, after a few pumps of the primer bulb.
I had a Toro brand of the same design. Mine survived 7 years of abuse. It was a beast, always cranked. It had a Tecumseh motor from what I remember.
I now have a Stihl Kombi 130 or 135 w string trimmer that is also a beast. I finally changed the air filter on it after 8 years. It ALWAYS cranks and runs better and longer than I do. Stabil and marine gas gets it done.
It is kind of ironic that your yellow colored log splitter and generator are not lemons and this black thing........ The weed eater must have a restriction on the fuel or worse problems.
Don’t those have a kill switch?
A lot of times the plugs are not properly gapped at the factory. I typically check the plug gap on any equipment that is different to start.
Why didn’t you take it back when you first bought it.🙏🏻🎅🏻
I would bet a chunk of money on it being the carburetor. Different brand but had similar issue with one I used to own and sold. I drained the fuel like you did, as well as took the bowl off the carburetor and drained it. Solved the problem long enough for me to sell it. For an almost sure fix, I would order a new carb and switch them out. I would imagine the carb is very inexpensive. Have had to do this on pressure washers in the past. Easier to replace the carb than fool around too long trying to clean it.
yes not getting enough gas carb spring needs adj
I know it's already been over 2 years but you should have exchanged it as soon as you had issues
Take the top cover off and get to where the magnetic coil sits. There should be a magnet on the flywheel. Take some sand paper and clean up both surfaces then put some light oil on them and wipe it off. Probably just got a little rusted.
I had the same problem with a brand new honda motor right out of the box that had sat on the shelf for a decade. My mom's boyfriend told me this trick and the motor fired up second pull after that.
You may want to try some Sta-bil Fast Fix in your fuel. The surge could be caused by a dirty/gummy carb. The Fast Fix may help if it isn't in to bad of shape.
The worst piece of equipment I ever owned was a craftsman weedeater. I have a 72 inch finish mower if you wanna borrow or come and do a little testing since you said you think it would be better in the corners. And my 16-year-old stepdaughter hit a deer with her Honda years ago and it has been my daily driver for a while now. It’s a beauty. I’m a little behind on my comments. I know it doesn’t help you to combine them here but I will get caught up…
Most weed-eaters are a pain. We use them year round here in south Florida. Quality fuel and the cleaning of filters and carb is the best way to keep them running. Often many people just don't know how to do common sense diagnostics to find the real problem and then repair it. Several pieces of my equipment are 3-10 years old. I do maintenance often, and try to stay ahead of repairs rather than having to fix at time of failure.
Buy Electric for the wife, best investment ever!
It's a carburetor issue the way it is surging got some corrosion from water vapor
I didn't care for this trimmer, but watched the video because you're entertaining.
And I thought my new DR was crazy.Wont keep line on with their stupid head.EXCEPT: FOR MORE YOU CAN BUY A HEAD THAT WORKS.And I spent over 900ttl.I may return it and get a walk behind brush mower...
I've used the DR and own the YardMax version. I've never had any issues. I've cleared trails through the woods and cleared brush in areas that haven't been touched in over a decade. Could the issue be the operator?
you should of went with dr power walk behind trimmers i used them for 15 years as a kid on my grandfather farm or any of the walk behind trimmers with honda motors on them its a shame Husqvarna don't make walk behind trimmers and lawn mowers any more hit up your local small lawn mower repair shops to see if you can find a dr or a craftsman walk behind trimmer or a toro time master make a good one so does yard max from homdepot your walk behind trimmer sounds like it has a carbortator issues or you need to adjust your carburetor
I don't think I would ever buy anything with the brand "legend force" it just sounds cheap. Not to mention the machine looks cheap it's self.
you have the blade engage handle down...let up on it...pump 10x on primer...make sure it's on... pull 3-4 times... should take right off...That is not running right...bring it back and exchange it... you got a bad one...
I bought a champion log splitter, love it, always starts but my only complaint is that the pull start mechanism spring went bad on the first day. I rigged it up but the pull is real short now.
You got the cheaply made new ones. I have a 1987 ( first year made) and that still runs as good as the day I got it I put the 12" beaver blade on it and I'll cut anything in my path had the Dr field &brush also cut down just as good as the bobcat track machinee. Every piece on my machines are made in the USA yours comes from China.. newer isnt better
I purchased a DR Power muncher with a B&S XR engine and it was nothing but headaches to start it. I then purchased a $13.00 carburetor from eBay and that turned out to be the best solution for the starting problem.
Check the gas. Try a different octane. Adjust the carb. Don't give up. It wants to work.
Carburator diaphragm made in China are bad plastic doesn't allowed to bending properly and American made Briggs and Stratton carburetor diaphragm moved with better rubber than stiff plastic parts. I have Coleman powermate Weed eater high wheels 12" tall inches back with a 21" inches wide cutting star shape .155 inch thickness spiral blades easy- on I precutting each lines and I did a lot of research into Home Depot's trimmer / line mowers and avoid all China made Tesh engine trimmer on high wheels . I stick with American made Vermont country Briggs and Stratton and Kawasaki motorcycle brand engine of 7 through 9 horsepower 4 cycle with a key started battery jump start engine. Without hurting and damaged shoulders and back, Or just buy a rechargeable battery powered trimmer/ mower high wheels can used a .275" thickness spiral blades easy-on on 24" inches cutting widths and with a Beaver Blades chainsaw can cutting off 4" inches thick wood small trees and thick weeds ,hay , Johnson Grass and thick torned brushes and poisonous plants ivy, oaks ivy . I don't like being robbed again by Tractor supply store selling Riding 17 horsepower 2 cylinder Husky with China engine failed again and again and their Trimmer mower high wheels are cheapy made not put together right . Plastic Carburator diaphragm doesn't want to work.
Husquoovarna 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂 it's interesting to see the amount of people on UA-cam complaining about not having time to change a plug or adjust a carb ,but have time to edit biased videos. Come on .
Does it have an oil level sensor? It might not be that sophisticated, but even with full oil, those sensors are known to be faulty or of the box. But you have spark...hmmm
I vote crappy carburetors...plastic parts, non adjustable, and the factory may have done a 2 minute run in at the factory, boxed it up in China, shipped it, it sat, and sat, and sat. Home Depot takes receipt, doesn't run it, a couple of nontrained floor associates put bolt A in Hole 1...and there it sits. It's new, right? Not necessarily.
Brock, I love your videos buddy, but you have to get those engines under cover during the off season or I cant watch you anymore.😀 Throw that thing off a tall building.
On my the top lever engages the string head. There is a kill switch on the main handle on the right side to allow you to start / stop the engine.. The video shows you starting it with the top lever 'down'. When you let go of it it flips up. Try starting it with the lever up.
Mine starts and runs just fine. The only problem I had was when I hit a tv cable and it shredded my drive belt. I tried to find out the belt size and I ended up measuring it myself. If you are interested it is- 2"x37".
I know I'm late but for $500 you could have bought a D.R push trimmer 😅 or a swisher push trimmer
I think you are kind of foolish not to have taken it back that first day. Sometimes you have to put your pride in your sock. I have the cheapest model DR and I love it. But if it ran like your is I damn well would have took it back.
You should have bought a DR. I just got the Pro on sale and paid less than you shelled out for that piece of &?@$. Put the wheels on it, gas and oil, one pull.
The engine speed is too low. You need to adjust the throttle cable at the engine by loosening the cable clamp and pulling the cable out as far as possible before tightening the clamp back. It should sound just like your mower's engine when it's at full speed. In other words the throttle is not opening up all the way.
I didn’t see all 202 comments that are posted. I might recommend Lucas fuel treatment. I’ve had good luck with cleaning, gunk out of carburetor and carbon from engine.
maybe you can ask @StevesSmallEngineSaloon. my laymen opinion is that it sounds like your lines or your carburetor is gummed up. something is probably running too rich and flooding the engine. my (ryobi) pressure washer does the same thing, and i have to run it at half-throttle or else it will sit there and surge up and down and eventually turn off.
shouldve gotten one off facebook marketplace or whatever. wouldve saved a lot of money and get a working unit.
You should have taken it back and got another. Something in that one is defective. I have the same machine and had it for a year. I haven't used it since last until a day ago. Started right up. I was able to cut nearly three fect tall thick grass and weeds with it shutting off.
It all matters about the gasoline
Corn crap or pure gas
It’s a choice 😊
If you have a older model please fix it or have a mechanic fix it ❤
Good morning Brock. I'm no expert but I think that the problem is most likely the carburetor. If it's made like the one on my old lawnmower it has a diaphragm inside that pumps the gas. A bad diaphragm will cause the surging. Just trying to help. Don't know if I did. God bless. 👍👍👍
Did he check the spark plug gap?
buy a big brush cutter SRM 520es echo is much faster than that. if you do buy this always try to walk forward keeping it eating grass. going back and forward and side to side is all wasting time. Same with any grass cutting equipment, always be cutting new grass not going back over stuff you have already cut.
You got water in the flotbool of the carburetor. And probably water in the tank.
Don’t hold down the engagement my dr string trimmer won’t start if the string engagement is pressed down. Opposite of a lawn mower
I have a Stihl FS 85R weed eater that I’ve used for 18 plus years and only ever had to replace a coil. It runs like a scalded dog
IMO, try buying a replacement carb for cheap off of Scamazon. That’s worked for me many times trying to fix a small gas engine…
Sounds to me like it's the governor spring. Got stretched-out during assembly or snagged on something..or the bracket that holds it got bent. I had a brand new Honda push mower and that spring popped off of it on like the second time I used it. (Hated that mower...and soon sold it, luckily only losing $100 on the deal).
I stopped watching at. "I couldn't get it started then 2 weeks later tried again " anyone in their right mind would have marched right back to the store and threw it through the front window. I call BS on this. No likes no subs for you.
The Husqvarna was likely an older Honda engine. They don't build them like they used to.
I remember it's one of two things. But often times you have to drill the injector in these. I think it's either Steve's Small Engine Saloon or another UA-cam channel that shows how to fix it. It's so small the fuel won't go through it!
Or it's an issue with the screen they put to filter the fuel in the carb. Sort of defeats the purpose. Gotta love those plastic carbs.
China at it's best.
My recommendation, get a piece of Honda equipment (their last year, thank you California). A Kawasaki powered product (usually commercial engines) Japanese company USA manufacturing 98% accuracy or better on all parts. Briggs are junk since 2017, a victim of made in China and the EPA. Otherwise Kohler Commercial Engines like the ones found from Scag(the block issue is fixed) assembled and built in the US but owned by China.
With all the issues of Briggs we no longer have American owned and made Small Engine equipment to my knowledge. All the companies are gone and shell's of their former selves.
I found that heavy duty use and Home Depot don't match. They are selling a lot of cheap Chinese knockoff items anymore. That trimmer is probably made by MTD, I would stay away from them...
If it didn't start when you got it, you should have returned it, pronto.
I’m afraid that all the manufacturers are thinking electric (and I think is a pipe dream) and quality of all gasoline engines will go down. Just my opinion. Thanks.
I would've rolled that POS back through the store doors on fire I've bought $500 vehicles in the past that ran like tops for years !😎
Mine won't start/run after sitting garage all winter. If I spray starter fluid in carburetor it will start and run for few seconds and then dies - its not getting any fuel. Fortunately less than 1 year old and still under warranty
Return it to Homedepo. No reason for them to sell junk. For same reason (all possible troubles with gas lawnmowers) I got battery powered Makita - happy so far.
Buy a TROY BUILT...MINE IS THE KING!! Starts every time.
My guess would be the carburetor has junk in it, and the jets are getting clogged! Probably from getting left outside at the store.
Are the wheels plastic? I know they don't have anything to do with the starting of the engine but it seriously looks like a real cheep knockoff. I will definitely stay away from that brand. Thanks for your video
I would not buy anything that was left outside in the rain 🌧️. Even box store londmores are junk.
You don't get it to run, this doesn't may depend on the equipment 😂😂😂
Your made in China... Some poor kids assembling it up ahhhh
I don't have an application for that type of machine, but I do buy push lawnmowers. The only thing I look for in a mower is horsepower and that it's a Briggs and Stratton. I abuse the heck out of my mowers, cutting brush and heavy weeds. When the mower is completely shot and not useable, I get a new one. But every mower that I wear out, if it has a Briggs and Stratton motor, the motor still runs well. I buy a new one if the wheels fall off, the discharge parts break, the cables fail, or the handle gets damaged. My typical mower last for around two years. I push it under my breezeway for the winter, just making sure I run out all of the gas. In the spring, I put gas in it, and it starts with two or three pulls. I'm too old to have the time or patience to sit there and pull and pull to get a motor started. I think you're right in thinking your machine is a piece of junk. We win some and we lose some. The key is making sure we learn from the experience. Keep on learning, Brock, and keep on sharing!
I find old mowers and revive them to good working condition, as my hobby. Just taking care of them and they'll run for many years. Most engines are good if you change the oil, filters and use good clean fuel. When you run'em hard , yeaaa sooner or later you've worn them out to being a used parts machine. I get it, some people just don't like doing maintenance on small engines.
My husqvarna has been throigh hell and back and just keeps going.
Lightweight is good and what did I use it for it’s a lawnmower ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxTPN04aT-Qdjr_KS3ql7ng8wnU3wwsCqk also recommend Yes it is lightweight so hence not as robust as our old one. But if you take care it does the job really well.
I got the "Tazz" (model 40095) version from Amazon and it seems to differ from yours in that it has a separate kill switch for the engine while the bail on the handle controls the trimmer head clutch; a far more useful control setup. Mine runs wells and has plenty of power for dealing with tall grasses and vines under 1/4", but the main downside compared to the DR Premier 26 field and brush mower it is temporarily replacing (while the latter is in the shop getting a new transaxle under warranty...) is that trying to mow down woody stems shreds the trimmer strings in short order, despite that I am using the thickest strings it can handle (0.155"). Consequently, it really isn't a substitute for a brush mower. That said, it also cost about 1/5th as much as the DR, so there's that.
My really old b/s engine runs great and I will keep it and keep it up
The new ones are not very well built and cheap engines
Look for a older one with Honda or B/S engines
If you are not interested in this machine get rid of it, and get the other one.
Have 2 Craflamsre that. 15 years to years . 10 years on the last so longing.
On the handle is a kill switch see if it's off or on bets it's on turn it off bet she fires right up
Try some sea foam. Pour a little in tank and run it , fixed mine that sat for a year.
Ive bought units like this before. I took it back right away.
You still got some water in your carburetor take it off blow it out with an air compressor put it back together it'll run late now
a smart man would have taken it back to the store a few days after buying it if it won't start but now you are stuck with a non running mower
I bought one that fell apart within a year
It sounds like it is in your carb, and it also sounds like it is cold natured as well.
sounds like the carb bowl has some crud in it.
