Those 3 Quantum torpedoes missing the Enterprise D, were like the 3 Quantum torpedoes missing the phoenix, but this time Data had nothing to do with it.
You're right, that was going to be my strategy both times. The AI went after the D. However, that left the C to fire everything it had without concern. That weakened the Sovereign's shields and helped the Galaxy win. As for the Sovereign fight... that was right on. Tear the C apart as fast as you can, then pray that you still have enough left to destroy the D.
This was an awesome battle. I agree that this was an accurate battle. I also agree that a Galaxy class facing a Sovereign class and if the Captain of the Galaxy class knew where to hit it could definitely defeat it. Destroying the E's quantum torpedoes and sensors was definitely the right move. If you had NOT done that the battle would have been over for you.
I would love to see battles where you let AI control both ships - just hit red alert, and choose intercept to destroy. I bet would make for some edge of your seat battles!
😲oh gosh Admiral.. hard time watching this.. eeh.. But, like you said, comes down to tactics and knowing what systems to target.. but surprised the Ent D held out against the Ent E.. and well the Ent C.. the First battle yes. I saw the tactics.. and 2nd battle well. I would say the Ent E.. with it's weapons and everything it has.. I think this would be proper. had to say.. Look when Data took the Ent D into the Borg Cube.. jeepers, his fingers where flying.. lol and didn't realize, the Borg would have weapons on the inside of the ship. hmm Love the battle Admiral. and your tactics were spot on.. !!!😊🖖
Spot on! When you think about it, the Galaxy and Sovereign aren't that far from each other tech wise. Yes, the Sovereign has quantum torpedoes, ablative armor, and more advanced shields, but the phasers I doubt aren't really that much more advanced. Also, the Galaxy Class would have been kept updated with many of the same systems, including shields and phasers, alongside the Sovereigns. That's my way of thinking.
the standard array of Phasers for the galaxy was type 10 phasers. The sovereign when it came out had type 12 which were at the time only outfitted on starbases. it was a substantial upgrade in phaser power.
Dude, thanks so much for doing this video series. I've absolutely loved it! This was probably my favourite yet. The result can definitely go either way!
0:55 You know, I was reading through the "TNG Technical Manual" and I read that the USS Enterprise-D had an ablative sheet as the hull's most outer layer. (Page 23.) Probably not quite as advanced as the one on the USS Defiant but still.
I think it goes to show that the Galaxy Classes' biggest problems were the lack of armor, massive target profile, and the easily damaged warp core. It was no means a weak ship. It just was not purpose built for battle. Nevertheless, it can punch hard.
That's a very good summary! It's almost like combat was a bit of an afterthought. That could be the reason it had a battle bridge installed (just in case). 🖖
Can't lie, I'm happy the Galaxy was able to eke out the win. Enterprise D is always going to be my favourite. Congrats to Capt Garrett and Capt... ... ... Jellico 😂
My head canon was always that the Sovereign was more efficient in every respect but not necessarily far more powerful than a Galaxy. Put out more phaser energy in shorter bursts, shield aspects would drop easier but charge back up far faster, etc. I always thought of the Galaxy as this more plate armoured knight versus the sovereign as more samurai.
The Sovereign has ablative armor, has better weapons, is faster, more agile and presemts a smaller target. So it‘s not „samurai vs knight“ but rather „newer, dedicated warship vs. multipurpose exploratory vessel.“
@@stephanbergmann8373 lol You’re taking the analogy far. I was basically just saying the E has lancing lethality versus staying power. Also, you do realize ablative armour doesn’t necessarily mean better hull, right? It just refers to a style of outer hull that makes it easier to tend to battle damage.
@stephanbergmann8373 totally agree. I love the d as much as everyone else does but the e outclasses it in every way. Weird that people don't seem to realise that
The Ambassador Class has so much potential in universe. I think Starfleet missed a great chance to upgrade their existing Ambassador Class ships into first rate ships of the line. Great vid, nonetheless.
Would be interesting to see this with a Dominion war Galaxy and the Lakota vs a Sovereign. See how much of the advantage is down to better overall design or just time passed.
I wonder if the Galaxy class could have been fitted with quantum torpedoes? I’m I don’t recall if they did in the Dominion War, but it would have been useful
I think this really showcases how, with each iteration of the Enterprise, the technology gap lessens a bit. I'm interested to see what happens with the D and E vs the F. My prediction of the E and F vs the G is that the G is gonna get trounced.
Might not be feasible but... I think it would be interesting to see how many TOS Connies each Enterprise can beat. Treat it like a unit of measurement: The Enterprise E is 15 Connies strong! 😆
yeah both ships should be pretty even since the sovereign is the result of building on the strengths of the galaxy class while making it a leaning and faster ship.
depends which version of the soverign. if it was the first contact one i would agree. but not the nemesis one. which had the upgrades they devolped after voyagers return and they could study that armor.
Cool battles; and great strategy with targeting quantums and sensors. Things will get interesting when it is time to fight the G, however. Unless you use the Eclipse class G, then it would be a more even fight. Correct me if I am wrong, but are Enterprises A and G the only Enterprises that were not top of the line ships at their rechristening?
Thanks buddy! Yes, things are going to get very interesting against the G,lol. The E could probably defeat it at a push 😂. I may have to a video with the Eclipse as the G as well. To my knowledge, that sounds correct about ships of the line. I suspect the Excelsior Class was the flagship at the time of the A. The G clearly won't be a flagship. Maybe the flagship is an Inquiry Class? 🖖
Where did you get that Galaxy model with a 10-torpedo clip? Better than the stock Remastered Galaxy for sure. I’ve upgraded my own with Excelsior II phasers and torpedoes and removed the single fire limitation - love how well it can compete now! If you want the .py file, let me know.
There's no way a Galaxy class would beat a Sovereign class. The Ent E destroyed a Borg Sphere with 4 quantum torps in First Contact. Also... The Galaxy class cannot fire 10 photons from each launcher. It can fire 5 in one burst from each launcher: 10 if you combine the fore and aft launcher in an attack.
I must point out... Sovereign class rapid fire launcher is supposed to fire 10 torpedoes too... All other launchers 3. I don't think this was an accurate result this time.
Right. Plus the E which was the most advanced of its time. Not to mention this sim is wholly inaccurate considering E is is more maneuverable than D and definitely hits harder than D. Plus as many times as the starboard power cupling goes down or deflector array gets damaged or always damge to secondary hull after a few hits from equal or lesser vessels. Really shouldn't last that long depending on the Commander
Up until this point the 2 predecessors combined can take on the Successor Enterprise....this pattern will end with the E-E due to the massive shift caused by the Borg and Dominion on Starfleet ship designs to more combat effective ships. C and D don't stand a chance against a Sovereign. The Sovereign had similar Photon launchers to the Galaxy in addition to the Quantum Turret. USS Venture plus an Ambassador Class starship could possibly beat a Sovereign as the Ventures shields are a lot stronger than the Enterprise D's were before her destruction. I would suggest the Galaxy Class engages the Sovereign in close Quarters whilst the Ambassador fires torpedo salvo's from range, or evac the Ambassador crew and use her as a fire ship/Kamikaze lol
@@defies4626 the galaxy class is a powerful ship it got the flagship status for a reason, not her fault she was built during a heavy peace time and starfleet being very laxed, the galaxy was a monster whenever it fought in the dominion war...once they figured out how to prevent the shield piercing
To me the Soverign is a ship with Galaxy calss firepower (dedicated quantum launcher but weaker phaser array) just in a smaller package. However if you used some of that extra internal volume the Galaxy has for addtional fusion reactors, sheild generators, port/starboard torpedo launchers etc. it wouldn't be close.
The Sovereign's firepower advantage over the Galaxy isn't a crippling one for the Galaxy. Tactics are what will absolutely win the day for either ship.

This was a very tactical good battle all around.
1:58 The Enterprise D should have a couple of runabout’s. Just staple them to the front of the hull and use their torpedoes. 😏

to me that enterprise D it's the one from picard season 3...
I'm wondering if a Galaxy can regularly win against a Sovereign if you just target the sensors and launch full spread.
I'm confused by this result because the Lakota handed the stock Galaxy's ass to it very handily in another recent RBG episode.
