- My favorite of the "Grammar Rock" tunes, because it shows excitement or emotion and is generally set apart from a sentence by an exclamation point or by a comma when the feeling's not as strong. Music & lyrics by Lynn Ahrens. Vocals by Essra Mohawk. ABC-TV, 1974
Sadly, I just learned tonight that Essra Mohawk passed away on Dec. 11, 2023. I am 58 and still love Schoolhouse Rock. Thank you Essra...may you rest in peace😢❤
RATS! …Let’s hope Lynn Ahrens isn’t gonna be next, despite what some may think.
Oh no , i didnt hear that
I guess we can all take a moment to say “Darn, that's the end”.
@@officialSgtPepperArc360 That is great!!!👍😂😂😂!
I just learned about this now from your comment, and I can't believe I never found any news report for that, unlike when Bob Dorough passed. Real shame she's gone now since Essra also sang one of my all-time favorite SR songs: "Sufferin' Til Suffrage".
I used the "Hurray! I'm for the other team!" line at a game recently....got a few knowing nods from some other fans lol
that's awesome!
TV Über Ya know he could be saying that just to look cool
Lol! I used to use that one too. One of my favorites.
I hope you didn't get jumped for it.
Lol!
I remember these growing up I still enjoy them to this day I was born in 1973 awesome memories
Same. I just turned 50 and I just learned the singer just passed away. RIP Essra Mohawk.

I am 49 years old,i learn a lot from schoolhouse rock on ABC.This is a good tool for 70's kids like myself.
you should watch the Schoolhouse Rock special at 7 p.m. ET on Sunday, 9/7/2014 on ABC
My 6 year old loves it..I loved it..rock on, schoolhouse rock!
Absolutely !!!!!Raymond
Raymond Clark always remembered “a noun is a person, place or thing 🎶...” from Schoolhouse Rock 👍🏾😄.
They should definitely bring it back or make it part of Scholastic Curriculum.
MAN! It was the 1970's when I was watching Schoolhouse Rock on Saturdays. I was seven, now I'm almost sixty. WOW! Time flies!
"Hurray, I'm for the other team."

R.I.P. to the great Essra Mohawk!
I wonder if today's kids will still appreciate this, with the music of over 40 years ago.
My parents used to put these on for us on long car rides. And from personal experience, today's youth do like it.
We do. Music is forever timeless. Well, if it's good. And these songs were made with love and care.
My daughter does
This is my Favorite from School House Rock !!!!
I was in AWE to hear my son singing tunes from School House Rock! He's 7; I'm over 50 !! (They're STILL Classics in school !!)
My 5th-Grade daughter is in her school's presentation of "Schoolhouse Rock" set for sometime this spring.
SuperPat88 Awesome!
The way the girl says 'wow' OMG
I know!!!! That’s the funniest part to me!
The first time, or the second time?
Yay! I grew up with Schoolhouse Rock.
Me too and I still love em!
no internet. sunny bright days of the 80's
I found myself crying after watching this. I can't believe it's been so long.
same here...
Oof. This hits hard.
Essra Mohawk 1948-2023
Darn! That's the end.😭
😭
@@benntura We keep losing people. Now Bob Newhart's gone too.
This never gets old, the new gen needs to see this gem.
Who came here just to relive their childhood? 😂🤣
I'm 52 years old, I remember this from the 80's and I still watch this.
The childhood nostalgia is definitely real, but my school musical this year is Schoolhouse Rock Live, and I’ve got ensemble parts in several songs.
Me!!!❤❤
Me!!! I love School House Rock. Our kids need it because everyone doesn't learn the same. My friends have asked me how do I know the words to so many songs? I'm musically inclined & so is my granddaughter. I definitely have to turn her on to this!
Me 😅
RIP Essra Mohawk. 😥
I cracked up when that guy said "Hurray! I'm for the other team!"
What a geek! I wanted to slap him.
But when it looked like he was gonna get his ahz whooped, he took that bass out his voice and went into "or by a comma when the feeling's not as strong" mode when he repeated it lol
I loved schoolhouse rock when I was a kid. Shit I'm 48 and still do.
Sponge Bob is right 7munkee.
Me too! I'm right behind you at 47. Schoolhouse Rock was the few minutes between their programming.
Me too! "Interjections!" & "Interplanet Janet" will always be my favourites from Schoolhouse Rock.
54 and still love 'em.
Im 17 and im blessed i listened to these as well
Schoolhouse rock was a great addition to what I was learning in the ‘70s. I understand that the basics of government are not being taught!😢
I loved these growing up. 🥰
I played these for my college students an at the end of the term i heard them humming the song during finals!!! I still know the worrds Hurray!!!!!
Awesome! Throwback from when I was 5 back in the early seventies...🥰😁🤣😂
Finding these videos just takes me back. I still catch myself singing them. Good times
indeed !!!
I learned the Preamble to the Constitution from watching Schoolhouse Rock, and I still SING it...
A few years back my nephew had to learn it for his high school class. When he was asked if I knew it, I sang him the song.
Same! 7th grade - 1980/81
"We the People...in order to form a perfect union...🎶🎹🎤☺
As parents, we have to teach our kids ourselves. I bought my son School House Rock videos/DVDs when he was little (really for me and My husband!😁) . Do they even sell it anymore? My son is 25...I am 59 and my husband is 63. We loved Schollhouse Rock and still, every now and again, listen to it!👍
Did anyone notice how the snake at 1:38 was the one that was scared of the girl? School house rock: throwing shade since 1974
Zarina Sultana in reality snakes 🐍 are more afraid of humans than we are of them. So the tune got it right 😄.
I never get tired of coming here ... always takes me Back to my learning days....I love schoolhouse rock
Now may Essra rest in peace.
Schoolhouse Rock was something special! I still love it. (I'd have used a comma, but the feeling's pretty strong.)
we were talking about thins in class. my teacher was saying how they were followed by and exclamation point, and i yelled out: "or by a comma when the feeling's not as strong.
I’m 22 and I love these. I have autism and my parents used to play these for me and my brother when I was younger, it helped me learn a lot and become a great writer. I’m in college now
❤💥👍
I’m 50. I learned more from Schoolhouse Rock than I did from school
22 years old, and this is a CHILDHOOD DEFINER.
Sound of my Saturday mornings in chicago in the early 80s.
Me too, I'm from Chicago too.
Now every Saturday morning you hear gunshots
I remember these school house songs as a kid and this one was my favorite. love the vocalist voice. damn I'm 56, time goes by so fast, try not to waste any of it.
I wish they put these back on TV** thank goodness for UA-cam
Julie Frett Most of these songs are better than the junk they play on the radio today!
I wish they would bring schoolhouse rock back I sure miss it 💙💙
When my aunt was teaching college English she had everybody in her classes watch each and every School House Rock video and write a report about each subject. She told them they would be graded on them, she did the same with me and my siblings and cousins. We learned a lot from each video and so did all of her now formor students.
I miss these on Saturday mornings.
Essra Mohawk truly nailed this vocal...couldn't imagine anyone else singing this.
70's......my favorite decade
I haven't seen this since I was a little kid in our suburban Maryland middle class home in the 70's when it aired on our MASSIVE 19 inch color T.V. I learned so much from School House Rock and more importantly, never forgot all of the practical lessons in the lyrics of those catchy tunes that I would time and time again draw upon to help me in my daily life The animation and songs are fun, well written and engaging making complex systems like Math, Language and Politics easy to understand and remember. I'm so pleased to see people of all ages discovering these timeless gems.. Knowledge is power. Knowledge made into an animated music video with a catchy song that you'll never forget is GENIUS. So enjoy and be sure to watch them ALL! Peace, Love and Understanding
My class loved this one when I was in fifth grade lmao. It's so catchy
I love how Geraldine went from I'm getting a restraining order to hey, you're kind of cute.
I just used Reginald as a sermon illustration to explain the interjection the Apostle Paul uses in Galatians 3:1... "Oh! You foolish Galatians!" After over 30 years I learned more from School House Rock on Saturday mornings than any English class... LOL
I saw a word that looked like Interjection in school and I’ve been stuck on this song for the past 30 minutes. Thought I’d listen to it! 😂😂 This is my favorite SHR song.
1:49 - All these years later, I still sing the part about the football game "The game was tied at 7-all, uh-huh!" RIP Essra Mohawk.
Schoolhouse Rock is how I learned The Preamble to The Constitution!! I probably have seen every Schoolhouse Rock cartoon!! Still love them!!
I remember all of them my sister has them on DVD not a care in the world 😊
I could swear I heard the little girl at the end say “Damn, that’s the end” one Saturday morning
Damn! Sucks! Screw!
"Crap! That's the end!"
Roger the alien
I love the excitement everyone shows with their interjections
It's 2019 and i still love love loveee this cartoon
AWESOME memories, we truly need to bring this back to TV, with children having so many problems with reading and writing, since phonics has been taken of of the schools.
We never get to choose how we are remembered, or even if we are remembered. Essra Mohawk was a singer & songwriter for nearly 60 years. She recorded a dozen albums and wrote songs for other artists. Hopefully it pleased her to know that generations of American children (and grown-up children) would remember her primarily from her contributions to Schoolhouse Rock.
RIP Essra Mohawk. Thank you for the happy memories you gave so many of us.

School house rock is a gemstone.
i remember when my school performed this! it was so much fun!
This is the BEST song, and my all-time favorite!
Out of all the school house rocks songs, this is my favorite too!
Essra was good friends with my sister. One day I was giving her a ride somewhere in Philadelphia when my front tire blew out. It was right near my friend's house so we went over there. My friend was playing his guitar and Essra was singing... I remember him telling me that he "got the chills" I got the tire fixed and the next thing I knew we were at some Asian friends house of Essras Chanting to a Buddha and dinging a bell "nam-myoho-renge-kyo"
R.I.P. Essra
4th grade memories!
You're probably were in 4th grade lmao
Darn That's the end
No It's "Darn!, that's the end!"
Wrong use of GRAMMAR, my friend. It would either be: "Darn! That's the end." OR - when the feeling's not as strong - "Darn, that's the end."
We seriously need to bring this back
Ain’t that the truth.👍
Don't mind me just revisiting my childhood
oops, forgot to use a comma
I’m 59 years old and I told my grand daughter school house rock was the Gracie’s Corner of our day…I still remember the songs
omg you guys ..
let me get off here before i start crying..
i miss my mom everyday
such good times back then...i was 6yrs old
To this day I watch schoolhouse rocks every Saturday I can remember to this day I sure understood things much better and it was fun I would go to school singing the song by the the end of the day we would be walking home and I had them all singing the song it was fun
The fact that whole crowd turned around in unison gets me every time

SHIT! That's the end, bring back my child hood, still crazy at 55yrs old.
0:42 *YOW!* That's not fair giving a guy shot down there!
Interjections
Hey!
Excitement
*YOW!*
Emotion
Loved this little grammar song.
The soundtrack of my adolescents. Also, this is my favorite "SHR," song. I was learning and didn't even realize it.

The great Essra Mohawk on vocals.
I love this song
Me too, because it’s my favorite.

Was it Lynn Ahrens?
2:36 ‘Or excited’ ‘WOW👹!’
IN-TER-JEC-TIONS!! ❤❤
WOW!! 😂❤❤
Happy 50th anniversary to interjections!
Rest easy Essra
Great voice.
(Cough! Cough! Cough!)
When Reginald was home with the flu, uh-huh-huh,
The doctor knew just what to do-hoo.
He cured the infection
With one small injection
While Reginald uttered some interjections..
HEY! That smarts!
OUCH! That hurts!
YOW! That's not fair givin' a guy a shot down there!
Interjections (HEY!) show excitement (YOW!) or emotion (OUCH!).
They're generally set apart from a sentence by an exclamation point,
Or by a comma when the feeling's not as strong.
Though Geraldine played hard to get, uh-huh-huh
Geraldo knew he'd woo her ye-het
He showed his affection
Despite her objections
And Geraldine hollered some interjections...
WELL! You've got some nerve!
OH! I've never been so insulted in all my life!
HEY! You're kinda cute!
Interjections (WELL!) show excitement (OH!) or emotion (HEY!).
They're generally set apart from a sentence by an exclamation point,
Or by a comma when the feeling's not as strong.
So when you're happy (HURRAY!) or sad (AW!)
Or frightened (EEEEEEK!) or mad (RATS!)
Or excited (WOW!) or glad (HEY!)
An interjection starts a sentence right.
The game was tied at seven all, uh-huh-huh,
When Franklin found he had the ba-hall.
He made a connection
In the other direction,
And the crowd started shouting out interjections...
AW! You threw the wrong way!
DARN! You just lost the game!
HURRAY! I'm for the other team!
Interjections (AW!) show excitement (DARN!) or emotion (HURRAY!).
They're generally set apart from a sentence by an exclamation point,
Or by a comma when the feeling's not as strong.
So when you're happy (HURRAY!) or sad (AW!)

Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah... YEAAAAAAA!!!!

For some reason, I just got a craving for a bowl of cereal.
Imagine(for the football scene) if that was actually in Philly(Vets Stadium, or JFK Stadium)... the "Hurray! I'm for the other team" guy would probably leave on a stretcher.
Most likely.
No, a body bag.
Philly could do its own video on specialized interjections 😂
My dad likes the "Hurray! I'm for the other team!"
I know its funny
Did you know that was Bob Dorough doing that line?
Schoolhouse Rock intro that we all know began in 1980 or 1981.
the color background credits began in 1983 or 1984.
classic sesame street the count and cookie monster apples youtube
Not only is the animation great- but the song is just awesome and absolutely clever!
a "connection" in the other "direction", yet the word "interception" isnt used?!?
catchy tunes. still effective only if today youth will watch it.
Jo mic my kids do. Bought the entire series on dvd a few weeks ago
Not an interception because it wasn't a forward pass. He threw backwards. That's scored as a fumble recovery.
Probably for the children that didn't know that what he did was called an "interception". Believe ot or not it's a complex word for an 8 year old.
Unbelievably Awesome! Thanks for the post
