I can not thank you enough for putting this video together. I tried to do it how other videos showed without removing the intake manifold. I spent over 2 hours trying to remove the starter. I finally gave in and followed your steps to take everything off and it was so much easier and worth the time to do it. I just want to thank you again so much for showing each step as clearly as you could and also explaining all kinds of stuff I would have missed. Especially that little clip that holds the manifold on I was losing my mind until I kept rewatching how you did it and with your explanation. THANK YOU FOR SAVING ME SO MUCH MONEY AND FRUSTRATION!
Man, what an awesome, 👌 top-notch video. Thanks for taking the time to move things around so that we all could see it. To you sir, I tip my hat... . I didn't use the wd 40 as somebody mentioned to me that it could break down the rubber. I cried because things didn't slide on so easily😢. Thanks again!!😂
Really helpful video. Just two tips for others attempting this job: 1) The little clip referenced at (12:23) that is so difficult to remove, I wasted no time and just snipped the plastic tabs off to remove clip and on re-install I just used a new tie-wrap. 2) To remove the inner starter mounting bolt (13:13) there are a lot of different adapters used making difficult to remove bolt. Instead, I just used one 3/8 drive 14mm deep socket with my 3/8 drive socket wrench. Fit right in there and bolt came out easy. Thank you for making this video, it's the best one on UA-cam for doing this procedure. Great job!!
I just followed this video and successfully replaced the starter on my 2007. I really appreciate the good views of what I'm working on. I have almost no experience working on cars and this video was much more helpful than some others. I couldn't see what they were doing. Thank you soooo much!
This brings back memories. I can't remember fully how I did mine, but I don't think I removed the throttle body and other items. I was able to leave the manifold connected to some items IIRC, rocked it forward out of the way "enough" and easily removed that annoying black canister on the back side. That gave me enough room to remove the starter. I removed and replaced the main wire with the starter not mounted due to the clearance issues with that black pipe / tube. Then installed the starter with the wire connected. Can't remember what year I did that, but the '07 is still kicking with it now.
This is a big help -hoping my starter can remain slightly-crappy for the life of the engine, but if I ever need to replace it, I know where to go for instructions
Your video helped me out with replacing mine today. What i did differently was to take the cable off the top of the starter first, then access to the top starter bolt is a little easier. Thanks!
Good video and explanation. You do not have to remove the throttle body, simply removing the snorkel between the air box and throttle body opens up space. Then remove the bolts and nuts including the bottom bracket bolt, vacuum lines including the one inside the plenum lower left and just pull the entire manifold plenum and throttle body towards you and shift upwards and angle it to the right, hold it there with a bungee, now you have all the space you need to remove those two difficult bolts off the starter. I used 1/2" ratchet and deep sockets. Replace manifold gasket with new and in your case should replace throttle body gasket as well to prevent any air leaks.
Excellent video. I attempted the repair today and this video was instrumental in the repair. All in it was $270 in parts. Bought the duralast starter from Autozone with limited warranty and the manifold gasket. I didn’t realize I might also need the throttle body mounting gasket too but reassembled anyway and appears to be fine. I ordered one and will replace when I get it. At any rate, started right up and based on the comments, I think I saved a solid $300+ bucks! Thanks for taking the time to post your video! 👍
The only video that shows the different 2006, 2007 electric throttle removal step and other minor things. Other videos shows 2003-2005 that has a cable throttle. This is the only video I found that helped me change the starter for my 2007 4 cyl. Accord with no guessing and no extra unnecessary work.
Nutzaboutbolts, great video, great explanation. This morning I replaced the starter on my 2007 Accord so your video was such a great help. I don't think I would have attempted to fix it had I not watched your video. Thanks for your help.
Thank you so much, i have no experience on cars other then changing a tire or oil. All i know are computers and i tryed a few other videos but they didn't look like my car. Thanks a ton
Great video! Some advice for others, the upper bolt is easier to get too if you take the wires off first, also make sure you clean the threads of the lower bolt with some brake cleaner after you remove the bolt. The hole goes straight through and out the otherside and any debris in there will strip part of the bolt and threads. You wont know it until the next time. If there is a next time ;-) I have an 07 and seeing the comments it looks like the 07 is notorious for starter failure. Looks like 03-08 doesnt fair better either. These starters fail in such a weird way, not like other cars, you'll think its other things before you suspect the starter, its annoying. Easiest diagnosis is to check the amp draw on the cable
Bought the same part today for the same reasons. That bottom bolt holding the starter felt like it wouldn't budge until I took out my breaker bar. Even with that it was tough. Stupid tight. I didn't cut anything like you did. If you push the o-ring onto the bolt it will fit in. It's tight but fits. When you start screwing in the screw it falls into position even more.
Perfect video! Could not have found anything better. Not one to do much on cars besides an occasional brake job (Disk only) there was no way I thought I could tackle this. Followed one bad video who said it could be done in 20 minutes but it wasn't even correct for this car in spite of saying so. Your video was perfect and spot on sir. Thank you!
I always hear people say Honda are easy to work on and i'm like what are you talking about lol. Even the damn oil filter is sideways. Replacing headlights can even be a pain having to go in from the wheel. And don't get me started on old rotor screws. Thanks for taking the time to make these videos buy the way.
Talking to a friend right now who has to remove the front bumper and headlamp on his Chevrolet to replace a bulb. I can replace my bulbs no issue on my Accord. Not to jinx my car, but my starter is 14 years old/218,000 miles.
Just did this job and I didn't remove the intake manifold. Was able to separate the intake manifold and and remove the bolts then slip it out. Only took about a hour!
Think you so much . Your video help me a lot .. i am from chile and this accord is not commun car here in chile . I changed it by myself. Gracias amigo .
Great vid. Very informative too. I did this job without taking apart so many other parts. I only removed the main bolts and nuts for the manifold and the two 10mm bolts for the bracket holding the two hoses just above the throttle body. Took me less than 30 mins. Thanks for the video.
Video rocks, thanks for your complete step my step instructions. I could not get the lower electrical plug to loosen (9:19) so I by pass it and still was able to pull the manifold and have access to the starter.
I replaced mine, and took a chance in cleaning the throttle body from the inside while it was off the base, without messing with the butterfly. Of course I cleaned it prior to dealing with the starter to give it enough time to dry.
This was an excellent video to help me change my starter. The only thing missing was the torque value for thr throttle body nuts and bolts. Other than that, it was super helpful.
I believe this is a 2006, since the throttle is wire driven. Guys with 2005 and older pay attention that some steps are slightly different since older throttle is cable driven.
Thanks a lot for your video bro you’re the only one that shows where and how to get that bottom Bolt off on the freaking intake manifold all the other videos are good too but they show that part like you do save me thanks
Thank you very much for the video. It was very helpful. After the repair my air conditioning stopped working with a check engine light popping on intermittently. Any suggestions on what could have gone wrong?
Excellent video thank you very much, I have a question, I do not have the radio code because I bought the third-hand car, what does it mean with memory saver and how is it used? thanks for answering
Fabri Tin you can always call the dealership for the radio code. As for the memory saver, it basically uses the memory saver battery instead of your 12V so that you don’t lose your radio station and clock.
Ha on my 07 accord replaced that curvy low air intake manifold with the z3 si one and it makes changing the starter easy bo need to take it off and alot more room.
Hey, thanks for the vid! But, I did everything here and no go, starter won’t even click, checked ignition fuse and starter relay fuse, both good, but no start! What’s wrong?
I wish you made this video a couple of months earlier. I had intermittent starting issue and my mechanic replaced it. Didn't realize it's not that complicated to replace. You can easily save 300 bucks DIY. How much you paid for Denso starter?
Pirouz Farhani lol sorry about that, we didn’t have any issues until recently. The starter was 270$, 140$ for core charge. So 130$ if I return the core.

Yes, that’s the symptoms. You can also get a hammer and hammer the starter a few times and see if the car will start, if it starts, then it’s a bad starter.
@@NutzAboutBolts well I went to AutoZone this morning and had them test my starter and they said it was good, then I went to o Riley's and had them test it and they said it was bad so I bought one and put it on and it started right up, thanks for all your videos
if the car is having starting issues(engine cranks slowly, doesn't start on first attempt, sometimes second attempt but then starts afterwards) .. and you suspect it's the starter but then you charge the battery for a while and then it cranks BETTER and more stable, faster and the car starts as well .. does this mean it wasn't the starter but probably the battery ? I'm praying it's the battery lol
If it cranks up strong after the battery replacement, then it’s most likely a weak battery. My starter was going bad and I cranked it and it was struggling to turn, you can kinda feel it’s the starter and not a battery issue too if you start cranking and it slowly cranks but you know the battery is good. Battery usually last 4 years or so. If the car doesn’t even crank once ignition on, then it’s the battery. Starter usually gives an indication of a crank but doesn’t turn.
Hey bro, do you know if a 2003 honda accord ex v6 have a main relay? I can't seem to find mine anywhere, i checked online, and nobody that i know would help me lol. I have a crank no start, been like 2 months since the problem..
I have a Honda like yours and it smells like sulfur during hard acceleration on the freeway. I replaced the catalytic converter but still can smell the odor. Could it be the engine control module? There's no engine lights on.
You don’t need to remove the intake manifold or Throttle body You can just unbolt the manifold and there is more then enough room to remove starter. You just need a bungee cord to hold the manifold. Also, You should definitely replace the gasket.
What, no cursing? Just kidding. Well made video. Now let's see you do a CRV with the same motor. A little bit tougher. Not too bad though. Thanks for the video.
@@NutzAboutBolts Did you have any problem returning the core to get your core deposit back? You are right, Denso makes reliable parts. Your method for replacing the starter WITHOUT detaching the coolant lines is great and that saves a lot of time and mess. I appreciate your doing this video and it has been very helpful. I have a Honda Accord EX 2004 I4 that is still going strong at 110k. Got it in 2003. Your car looks really clean. How much mileage does it have? Thanks again buddy.
trankt54155 no, there want any issues on the core returns, they do charge a 6$ shipping fee though. I bought the car brand new in 2006, so I’m the original owner and it’s clean because we did an engine bay wash. It has its dust here and there, but no fluid leaks anywhere or mechanical problems. It’s at 148k miles I believe, still running strong.
@@NutzAboutBolts Thanks for replying. So your starter gave out at around 148k miles? What I do with my car before I crank the starter I turn the ignition just enough that I could hear the gasoline pump going and then I crank the starter and the engine ignites only after one starter crank. Hopefully by doing that it would prolong the life of the starter...What do you think?
trankt54155 I’ve never heard of that, but if it works for you then do you. All parts tend to break down over time, so replacing them is normal. Same with suspensions and fuel pumps etc etc...
No need to disconnect the intake and throttle body, just loosen the wiring bracket above the throttle body/intake and loosen all wiring clamps, remove the radiator reservoir and and unbolt the intake and simply work from the left side of the intake to replace the starter trust me i just got done doing mine this way there is no need to even play around with the intake or throttle at all.
Thanks! We just wanted to get every shot in view so the viewers can see. It may be easier that way but most people can’t see if there’s parts in the way such as the intake and it would be hard for us to get a closer shot at the starter since it’s dark and small cramp room in there. Thanks for letting me know 👍🏼

pedro rodriguez we took the throttle body out so we don’t have to remove the coolant lines going into it. You can do either or but removing the throttle body gave us more room to maneuver the intake manifold out of the way of the wire harness.

You don’t need to remove the intake manifold or Throttle body You can just unbolt the manifold and there is more then enough room to remove starter. You just need a bungee cord to hold the manifold. Also, You should definitely replace the gasket.

No need to touch the intake or throttle at all just loosen the wiring and work from the left side!👍🏼
@@A.N.T-Diddly-2017 on the 2006 there is a black box behind the manifold so you can't really reach the starter without removing it
Mega Dominican oh damn I didn’t realize that.. im speaking on 2004 ex so thanks
How much is that remanufactured Denso starter? Thanks.
trankt54155 it was 270.79$ with a 136$ core charge. So total after that would be 134$ or so. I bought it on rockauto.
Nice fix. I enjoyed the video :-)
Krille's Garage Thanks :)
Good
No need to disconnect the intake and throttle body, just loosen the wiring bracket above the throttle body/intake and loosen all wiring clamps, remove the radiator reservoir and and unbolt the intake and simply work from the left side of the intake to replace the starter trust me i just got done doing mine this way there is no need to even play around with the intake or throttle at all.
Thanks! We just wanted to get every shot in view so the viewers can see. It may be easier that way but most people can’t see if there’s parts in the way such as the intake and it would be hard for us to get a closer shot at the starter since it’s dark and small cramp room in there. Thanks for letting me know 👍🏼
Actually this makes sense i don’t want to discredit this video because it is very informative, I actually watched this as well as a few others and put my own game plan together however i feel folks like you that even take the time to make such vids deserve kudos because you guys really do save people money thistle is a
*this is a fact! Thank you for replying!!

How do I find a starter the same as my own?
Check Amazon or ebay
FYI! the other way and the easy way is to remove the starter under the car...
Where did you bought it
Rockauto.com
@@NutzAboutBolts l was going to keep buying from rockauto now the charge like 40 for shipping
@@Ricardo-qv9jn I haven’t bought from them for a while, you should check around and compare. 👍🏼
@@NutzAboutBolts yeah l live in california, but they charge collect taxes. They sell quality stuff but they overcharged their shipping what do you cthink if l start buying from parksgeek auto parts
@@Ricardo-qv9jn never tried them. I usually buy or check from Napa, oreilly, dealerships or sometimes Autozone, but rock auto has been my go to for online price check.
23:50 You put WD40 on the threads of the starter mounting bolt? 😬
Anybody have any ideas on how to remove the air intake hose screw since it got stripped
Just finished my 08 E...what a pain..mine has a plenum..need to remove then intake comes out...no ebay parts..I bought one..failed..2and this am...way better from autozone
Why not jack it up and remove it from underneath the car
YOU DONT HAVE TO TAKE OFF THE THROTTLE BODY
pedro rodriguez we took the throttle body out so we don’t have to remove the coolant lines going into it. You can do either or but removing the throttle body gave us more room to maneuver the intake manifold out of the way of the wire harness.
After doing this I got a p420 code anyone know why?
