    Good video, one thing I would change is I would use clear tube as its easier to see when new steering fluid is pumping out. You can pick it up at hardware store for like $3 . Also I only needed 2.5 bottles of 12 oz on 2003 honda accord 4cylinder not sure if newer models need more (starting 2013 no more hydraulic). Last but not least apparently fluid is combustible (not flammable) hence you do want to keep the engine dry from this stuff. Again good job guys keep them coming.

    I’ve read how to do it in the manual but this video gives you the visual thanks man very informative and straight forward even shows how to bleed Incase people do get air in the lines thanks 👍

    Excellent video. I actually came to this vid because I was watching your "2003-2007 H Accord Power Steering Pump Remove and Install" video and needed to know the Power Steering system air bleeding process. I'm watching all your videos that are related to your "2003-2007 H Accord Water Pump Remove and Install" video. So far, every video has been very easy to follow and understand, and the attention to detail such as proper torquing of the mounting bolts are of high quality technician level--all in a home garage presentation. I appreciate your work, I'm a retired technician myself (A.S. in Auto Repair Technology/ASE Cert's) with specialty in transmissions (Chrysler & Jeep). I wish my generation of tech's had the internet--it would have streamlined getting pay raises a LOT faster to feed and support my family. I'm currently maintaining my son's 2004 Accord and your site is a great source to access and keep my son on the road. Thanks tremendously, and I hope you're available for any special/technical questions if I encounter any speed bumps.

    No need to start the engine. Jack the front up on stand, key switch to ON and turn the steering wheel, DONE!

      Is that just for bleeding the air or for the flush too?

    I just flushed the power steering fluid for a Civic. I followed the service manual procedure. It is nearly what you see here, but simpler. It is really worth reading the service manual for stuff like this. It takes all the uncertainty away.
    I just sucked the old fluid out of the reservoir with a baster, then pulled the return line, attached an extension as in this video, started the car, ran the steering end-to-end a few times to pump out the fluid until it stops coming out - i.e. run it dry. That's the difference from what is shown in this video - no concern about avoiding running dry. Then refill the reservoir, start the car, cycle the steering left to right a few times, and top up the fluid as it pulls in the fluid. That's the service manual procedure for an eighth gen. Civic. It doesn't state any need to avoid introducing air or to avoid running it dry.
    The service manual gives a fluid volume for the flush procedure - it was 800 ml for my Civic. I used about 700 ml to bring it back up the max fill line (only two bottles) and didn't have an entire basin of waste fluid to deal with! There will be a thin layer of bubbles in the reservoir that will disappear after it sits for a couple of hours. Note that there is no recommended service interval for the power steering fluid. Mine was 10 years old. I figured it was time :). Running a bottle or two of fluid through it while it draining may (only *may*)) be worthwhile to suck out ever last bit of old fluid, but considering that there is not even a recommended service interval it is hard to say that there is any particular value other than that it "seems" better.

      You're prob. right Jim. I agree starting the car will empty the reservoir REAL quick. That's how they got air in system. You can hear the pump grinding at 4:30 when filling up with engine running. Shouldn't run it more than a few seconds. I will try this method of turning wheel side to side only. Maybe removing a main fuse or wire so engine wont start and try to just "one click" starter to rotate pump and get fluid out.

      @Heemlo You remove the old fluid so that when you pull the hose off the resevoir you don't dump power steering fluid into you engine bay.

    You should just be able to disconnect the low pressure hose and turn the wheel from lock to lock to drain all the old fluid out.

    Thank you personally it worked out great, although you should raise the front two tires of the car and you do need another person to then on the car and lock to lock while you measure the pump fluid constantly going through to flush out the system.

    Of all the how-to videos on YT for a psf flush, this seems to be the best. Personally I would dump all the new fluid into 1 clean container then add it.

    All i do is take the fluid out of the reservoir with a turkey baster and add clean fluid. .then i drive it a day or 2 and do the same procedure. And well the fluid went from dark to almost clear in week 😊

    The description for your video lists the incorrect hose size. It lists a 5/8 hose and in the video you say 3/8 hose :) I found this out the hard way when i bought the wrong sized hose :P not a big deal though. Great instructional videos, they have really helped me out with my accord!

    I did exactly what you did but you DO NOT want air to get into the system. You should pour ALL the new fluid into one clean container and pour that into your funnel, NEVER letting the reservoir go empty. Once your container starts feeling like it's almost empty, shut off the car. I got air into the system doing it the way you did and it was a nightmare to rid the air out of the system. I ended up using a vacuum at the reservoir and also bleeding one of the lines down at the steering box. Just lifting the wheels off the ground & turning the wheel left & right just wasn't getting the air out. I've heard a lot Honda's can be a pain to rid the air once it's in there.

    Hi man, just a newbie here. I was wondering my accord CL7 2005 doesn't have that power steering reservoir near the wiper wash container? I was checking today coz my steer feels a lil bit harder than usual but couldn't find where it is. Any help? Thanks

    Thanks for this video as it helped me flush the bad one out completely. However, I agree turning the wheel left and right completely couple of times will help flush it better. Also, very important never run the power steering fluid pump dry. We have a very light froth during the flush as compared to what is in the video. Still it is an excellent job!!!

      It's inside the bottom of the reservoir. Also know to clog up if u do more research on them as well as the o rings to the pump

    Awesome videos ... I will be replacing my pump soon, im not sure about bleeding the air out, well basically its all about tuning the wheel left and right and topping up the reservoir , that all ? right ? by doing this oil will replace the air

      +Don Lee you yes turning left and right on the steering wheel will push the fluids out from the rack and pinion so you can bleed all the air out as well. Make sure to follow the video instructions.

    I think the Lisle funnel itself would work well in this application if the funnel fits into the power steering resovior to reduce the chances of air getting into the pump. Maybe?

      Carlos Castro the funnel does fit, but we like to keep our parts clean, so we use cheap funnels for that.

    Good video...if you have a shop, time,..."special tools", etc.
    Easier just to take your turkey baster....and buy a quart of Honda PS fluid and change it 2-3 times with the baster.....much less work....less efficient...but doable for evryone.

      +Frank From Upstate NY it might take more than 3 times since there's a lot of fluids in the p/s system, including in the p/s pump... doing it this way will ensure that all of the fluids going in will go out without being mixed in the fluids. Basically what goes in will go out since there's 1 exit in the system, which is being flushed out.

    If you have an old car and the fluid hasn't been changed regular, I'd suggest after you empty the reservoir just remove it completely and clean it out. I sprayed Brake Clean into the bottom tube and it freed up a lot of gunk from the filter in the bottom of the reservoir (8th gen Accord). .

      +Qu Y The only belt the 2006 Honda Accord has is the serpentine belt. its 1 belt and we have the video for it.

    I followed this video to change power steering fluid on a 2003 honda crv. I filled up the reservoir with new honda fluid started the engine and turn the steering wheel to the left and shut off the engine. refilled started the engine turn the wheel to the right shut off the engine. by the time you turn the steering wheel all the way to the left or right the reservoir is empty. it takes about one 12 oz bottle of fluid to fill reservoir.

    Thanks for your prompt reply & I really appreciate it. If you don't mind could you pls advise how to find out whether my Autotensioner from 2004 Honda Crv is working properly or not. When I tried to move the tensioner to remove the belt , tensioner is stuck & can't move with 14mm wrench.

      +Tun Thura Make sure its not counter threaded. Some are like that, just like our Honda Accord inline 4 cylinders, the serpentine belt removal is clock wise, the V6 is counter clockwise. If it doesn't go one way, do it the other way and if worst comes to worst, you'll just be removing the bolt istead of breaking a bolt.

    G'day from Sydney.
    I just did a PSF flush on a 2003 2.4L, CL9 Honda Accord, with 298,000 Ks. Could I suggest you first remove the reservoir and empty out the old PSF, you will find that there is a mesh strainer/filter at the bottom of the reservoir, that in my case was full of dirt. I cleaned it out with solvent before refitting to the vehicle. I used 2 litres of Honda PSF for the flush as fluids such as Dexron IV cannot be used as they break down causing noise and poor performance I was told by an experienced Mechanic friend of mine.

    Great video, I want you guys to notice something, why would you use small bottle?
    I would just pour all the fluid from small bottles to a big container, so I dont have to bend over and grab the little ones, one by one

      That’s all they had at the autostore, if you can find a 1 quart bottle of power steering fluid, I’d recommend that.

      Alvin Alfonso bubbles mean your powers steering pump is shot, not matter how new or full the fluid is, the pump is gonna need fixing or replacing

      There's a low side o ring that needs to be replaced. Most Honda Acura are known for this problem. Also on UA-cam as I research this problem on the forums

    Congrats. Very soon need to replace p/s pump. When is the pump this make in noise, suck in the air system. After, couple weeks or months p/s pump noisy and not make in pressure. My over 100 piece of Honda p/s replacement experience....

      +ToolsSNAPON what? I don't understand what you're trying to say... are you saying that I will have to replace my p/s pump because I flushed it this way? If so, my car has 100k miles and haven't had a problem since doing this at 60k. Sorry that you experience a problem with your p/s pump, even though you never done this before.

    (Old video but I hope I can get help ) so I did this and I got air into the system. I drove daily for about 3 months now and it still makes nose when I turn the wheel . But I used generic GM fuild. So today I changed some out with a auto zone Honda type and it got a little quieter but it still goes the same foaming and nosy when cold and gets less when hot . ... What should I do now ? I was thinking of taking off the top hose and pushing it lower so the air could maybe pass ? ...sos

      Pie 4life. This isn't going to help you because you must have fixed this by now but for others reading this it might. The problem you describe " foaming and nosy when cold and gets less when hot" is purely related to a hardened seal at the reservoir to steering pump where the pipe from the reservoir joins the pump. It's sucking air in causing the fluid to foam and making a noise when cold. When the pump and fluid warm up the seal expands enough to stop the air getting in and goes quiet after that. Plenty of videos on this. Must be the easiest access of any job on the Accord. No jacks, no stands. It's right there on top, steering right at you! (see what I did there?). One 10mm bolt off, a small low cost seal on, one bolt back on, then start engine, no noise, no foam and a huge smile!!

      +Ger Mai Lee I think the pump is already filled with fluids, and all you need to do is remove the plug and install it.

    You should of done it with the car off just jack the front wheels an turn left an right an it would’ve drained the same way just not as fast 🙏🤘

      You can’t do it with the car off lol you’ll get a steering wheel lock if you try to turn left or right.

      I think what he meant was key in the on position in the ignition with the car raised with the wheels off the ground. Then you'd just turn the wheel lock to lock and use the rack itself to suck fluid through the system and pump old stuff out. Eric the car guy and your videos are similar that you'd run the engine and use the pump to get the old stuff out, but a few other videos on UA-cam have demonstrations as I mentioned before, which airs more on the cautious side as you don't necessarily run the risk of the pump running dry and doing damage. All in all though, great demonstration, both methods work, but you just have to be extra careful like you mentioned in your demonstration as to not run the pump dry.

      Nick 631 key on would mean the engine isn’t running. The pump is belt driven, so you’ll need the engine to run for it to work.

      The rack and pinion will push the fluid through the system as you turn the wheel left to right I have flushed multiple cars this way!

      I just flushed the system on my '97 Accord, front wheels off the ground, engine off, turn the steering wheel left and right until the fluid came through clean.
      The process goes slower, but there's very little chance that the pump will run dry and get a lot of air in the system.

    Great vid. Probably shouldn't run it more than 2 second. The fluid moves too fast so air got in the system. I'm going to try but will start 1 or 2sec. stop and refill.

      air will eventually get in there, that's why at the end,you bleed the air by turning your steering wheels left and right. There will be bubbles in the reservoir. But yes, don't run the power steering pump dry, or you will damage it.

      by turning steering wheel left and right with PS reservoir cap off, air will come out with bubbles thru the fluid, once bubbles stop you should put cap on again and its all done

    You are doing it wrong.
    Raise front wheels off ground fully with jack stands. Remove low side hose and plug port as you did. Add longer hose to low side hose to reach catch pan. Turn wheel lock to lock 10-15 times. Refill two or three times doing that. Or until you see clean fluid coming out. So now clean fluid is through the steering rack and reservoir. Reconnect low side hose to reservoir. Top off fluid. Turn wheel lock to lock 10 more times. Keep fluid at the full cold mark. This bleeds the air out of the system. Start engine and crank wheel lock to lock 10 more times. Check fluid level. Lower car and check for leaks. Should be golden.

      last time i did it, this is what I did:
      1) remove fluid from reservoir
      2) fill the resevoir with new fluids, turn on the car, once you turn the car on, the power steering pump will pump through the fluids, no need to turn your wheels left and right. you will see how quick the fluid darknes (when it's mixed in with the remaining fluid in the system.
      3) I turn off the engine, repeat step 1.
      do it about 6 times, until the fluid in the reservoir is just as clear as the fluid out of the bottle, takes about 3 bottles and call it a day. no need to remove any hose, or catch and fluid.

      How much should this cost at a trans shop? I took my 2007 accord in to have the trans fluid changed and he did a drain and fill just ONCE and charged $120. He told me to come back again in a few months for another drain and fill because I know just a drain and fill one time only removes about 40% of the fluid. So he should have did a drain and fill 3 times and be done with it right? Would save me labor I would think??

      Thanks for the info.....I actually knew about the "flush" caution. I never flush a trans with high mileage (this accord I bought a few months ago had 115,000) if I dont know the history because if u flush a high mileage trans because trans fluid is a cleaning fluid u can have shifting problems u never had so I always just do drain and fill, I'll do next one myself....the shop said they used the Honda fluid and they have great reviews on YELP it's a long time trans specialty shop.

    Another thing: Honda had recalled 07 through 09 through pressure hoses, now they have recalled the 03 to 06 too. I assume they will flush the fluid when they replace the hose (I could be wrong). The hoses were leaking (like my 2000) because they were not designed to withstand the high pressure & heat that the hose is exposed to...

      dxhydrodotcom that's good to know, I haven't received any recall notice yet. I know that my vehicle power steering reservoir was leaking before due to a defective reservoir, once I replaced it, it stopped leaking. I'm not sure if it happens to all 03-07 vehicles or its just my vehicle, but it was an easy fix.

      Matthew Pfender because it doesn't come with the service when they replace and repair your p/s hose, they will charge you for the flush service.

      Yes, that’s the return line that we are draining it into the drain pan.

      The common slick 50 power steering fluid product I believe does not come in the Honda formulation. I actually scored some powdered Teflon in the various grades used for automobile applications and have made my own ptf' home Hooch. Actually if I'm lazy and don't want to flash I just take some of the powder Teflon and dump it in the top of the reservoir not too much never had a problem everything is Big clearances in this PS pump and rack

    Just subscribed! The power steering fluid that came out of my 08 accord lx was also foamy, probably because of trapped air in the PSP. I just changed the power steering fluid. I didnt flush it though. just took out about 3 quarts, put back in 3 quarts~. My steering wheel is a lot less stiffer... but still stiff in comparison to my friends car. I read somewhere that you can "SEAFOAM TRANS TUNE" your power steering . Do you think there's gunk in my PSP that needs cleaning?

      crufzeiro never heard of sea foam for ps fluid, they're used more for fuel and oil. I wouldn't use anything for ps since its not necessary and I'm not sure if its compatible.

    I had to also change the belt tensioner, so I left the belt off, then used my hand to spin the pump pulley to pump the fluid at a slower pace.

      You don’t even want the cheap stuff in your system. I’d suggest just buying a couple extra bottles of the Honda fluid

      half inch is pretty my Universal go- to , for this kind of clear tubing. If it's a little too small take a cigarette lighter and heat it up and expand the end. Is there a super cheap like I am with two kids in school , use the clear for only last foot. I pick up all the tubing I need for free at the junkyard. I never been charged miscellaneous Oddball hose. Laying around the yard

    Hello.. The 1/4 inch socket is shoved halfway into the drain hose and the other half into the power steering hose i presume? ( And then the two hoses with the socket in the middle are held together with the clamp?)

      +Alex Gonzalez its possible but no guarantee, if there's air in the system, it can cause hard steering. But if you have a bad pump, it can also cause hard steering. This would be the cheapest route to make sure its not the fluids that is the problem.

      +Herbster1124 you can do a 1 person method by turning the engine on and off immediately so the fluid gets drain out and refill and redo until the fluid is clear

      That would be due to failing O-rings inside of the steering rack...time for a replacement rack soon. The pulses come from fluid pressure building and then gets released past the O-rings of the piston that pushes the steering left or right...and happens again and again while turning...thus the 'jerk' in the steering...especially on long turns on the highway right? Ask me how I know!

      The manual was authored by idiots. This is NOT how you do it. You don't actually start the engine... you run the p/s pump by using the starter motor only (remove spark plugs and disable EFI/injectors).

      Marek Sumguy you don’t remove spark plugs and disable the injectors to do a power steering flush. Esp when you work in a shop and you are being paid flat rate.

    Can't you just lift the front wheels off the ground and turn the ignition to "ON" but not start it and just turn the steering wheel side to side? This is slower and easier for one person to do so it doesn't run dry. And use a clear hose so you can see the color.

      I think you're thinking of the high pressure hose. The lower pressure don't have the o-ring since its low pressure.

      Yes, low side is Orange o ring to a plastic tube held by a 10 mm size bole, high side is a black o ring held with 2 10 mms bolts

      Not sure the hose size, but you plug the top port of the reservoir off and you use the bottom port of the reservoir to drain the old fluids out.

      +samuelxrc could be a defective issue, my rubber hose are still pretty flexible. My old reservoir that came with the car did leak from the bottom and I had to replace that. That's the only problem that I had from that area

    How abt just turning the steering wheel to flush the fluid without starting the engine?

      It's power steering - the engine provides the "power" through the belt to run the pump. You need the pump running to move the fluid through the system. Without the power, the manual connection to the wheels will work, but no fluid will move in the hydraulic system.
