    ABSTRACT
    “Transmutations of the Classical Guitar in Contemporary Jazz through Experiment and
    Improvisation” by Olaf Tarenskeen
    An Artistic research on the integration of sound and style in contemporary art music and jazz, presented in an improvisational context.
    In this thesis, transmutations are an addition to composing and arranging music for guitar solo, improvising in jazz settings resulting in a cohesive style that bridges the boundaries of genres in themselves and in popular music.
    The initial question leading to this research, the course of the analysis itself and the outcome of the analysis, research and interpretation in the conclusion is demonstrated in this lecture-recital as an overall view, accompanied by video and audio, in a live presentation by the author, performer guitarist.
    This artistic research has been made possible with support by LOOS Den Haag/Studio LOOS and the municipality of The Hague 2022

    Llevo mucho tiempo tocando jazz sobre clásica guitarra... Estoy enamorado.
    Piensen que las archtops querían en su origen ser como las guitarras españolas.

    love to see classical guitars played in styles I'm not used to, always sparks my creativity and makes my want to branch out and try new things
    pretty rare to see a lefty bass player, wonder if the bass is just restrung, or built/braced for lefties

      The bass front was removed to change parts. Quite a operation.

    Very musical! I'm a Jazz saxophonist and pianist of many decades. I just bought a classical guitar (the Yamaha "silent" one; it has a wider neck, but just shy of a typical classical guitar neck). I have zero experience with guitar. Regarding voicings, on piano I use "Bill Evans rootless voicings" and voicings in 7ths and 10ths (root, 7th, root 3rd or 10th), etc. Yet when I look up "Jazz guitar voicings," all I see are what I would call "block chords (root, 3, 5, 7). What I'm looking for are 2-5-1 voicings that lead nicely to / from each other and that won't contort my fingers too much. Although I have giant hands and long fingers (I'm 6'6"), I'm not sure how much to stretch them in trying to reach voicings. You're playing with a bass player .. are you using rootless voicings? Thanks....

      There are hundreds of voicings, guitar is pretty directional like some of the more exotic trill keys on saxophone.

      Yup, the voicings are endless but some of them are very difficult for the fingers. Piano voicings are not often easy on guitar. Ten fingers versus four.

    What kind of mic is that clamped to the guitar body? Sounds like it is excellent for recording...

    This is perfect for an Unplugged setting. They do make Lightly Polished Strings which are basically Flatwound Strings w/ a Nylon Core.

    Absolutely wonderful, improvisation for classical guitar is so rare! At this point, my dream would be to see you play with our Claudio Quartarone.

    Beautiful, great guitar, great trio. Does your guitar have the conventional wide fingerboard found on classical guitars or the narrower board usually found on steel sting guitars?
    Thank you for sharing this great music

    sounds great is that a DPA mic you are using on the guitar?

    • @classicaljazzguitar22
      @classicaljazzguitar22  4 роки тому +2

      Yes that is a DPA but only for ambience, LRbaggs and Barbera pickups are supporting the global sound eq'd by a Bose mixer system

    • @blufordbirdsong1834
      @blufordbirdsong1834 4 роки тому

      @@classicaljazzguitar22 Thanks for the info. Funny, I was trying to decide between the Barbera and the DPA. I don't anticipate using it in a combo band situation such as this, but more in a solo guitar application, restaurants,. lounges... What are your impressions of the Barbera for this vs. the DPA? I greatly appreciate any insight or experience you are willing to share. Thanks.
