Peter Sprague Plays "My Favorite Things"

- This tune has always been special to me. Growing up with the Sound of Music and then morph that into how Coltrane played it. Here I'm exploring it as a samba with some chord substitutions. I played this live at SpragueLand in Encinitas, CA on April 4, 2013.
When I'm looking down at the floor I'm navigating my loop and synth pedals. This is during the intro, exit and in the solo section of the tune.

Hi Peter! I knew you back in the early '80's, You, Tripp, and Kevyn used to eat at Govinda's Restaurant in Leucadia, where I worked. Sounds Beautiful, Hope You're all well.
this fellow obviously has more favorite things than most of us.
Ahh, that's nice and thanks!
Come on man, at least open your eyes; you're giving guitar players
everywhere an inferiority complex! Excellent, Beautiful, Creative.
Peter Sprague is a treasure!
Bahahaha so true, at least open your eyes man! You’re an absolute genius!
There are some folks who can visualize things better in their head then with their eyes. This man is one of those.
Oh my GOD. This could be one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard. I'm not sure how anyone could dislike this. This man truly knows what it means to play from the heart. Simply amazing.
Certainly it is one of your favorite things?
Hi All, many thanks for checking out the music and thanks too for your positive words. It's a hoot over here at SpragueLand playing, recording, and video taping these tunes. I think I'll keep on going! stay well, P
Mr. Sprague, your genius is showing...
Thanks for the listen!
My dear friend Peter Sprague, a great honor to know him! A great human being and an absolute virtuoso! 👍👍👍
Yo Jose, good on 'ya amigo and thanks for the kindness...
@@PeterSpragueMusic considering my current distain for human beings right now, I'm not entirely sure that you are a human. And I mean that in the best possible way. If I was an alien from another planet and you were the first human being that I met, I would assume that humans were worth saving. Lol. But seriously, this rendition of a true classic belongs with the best interpretations of it.
@@ligetispaghetti wonderful to get your wildly creative note and also, thanks for taking the vid for a spin. So nice that it worked on your ears and it's a trip to play it. I'll keep going and yes the world is a mess but it's still worth living it up....all best, Peter
Back for another listen... fantastic playing and arrangement as always Peter, and what a killer use of the looper and synth!
Cheers!

Thanks for listening and I love the music of Argentina! Tango until the sun goes down!
I listen to it every once in a while. One of my favorites Peter.
For those of you who may not know, closing your eyes, and achieving the level of familarity with your instrument to know exactly where youre going. Absolutely insane. This is inspiration to me! Thanks for the video!
Those chord changes are sick (!)
What a soul! Greetings, respect and love from Istanbul!
Hi Peter, now this is one of my favourite things!
Absolutely superb - a veritable orchestration!
Such imaginative use of a looper gives new meaning to the term, 'One Man Band'!

Clive Davies
Great! Thank you Peter Sprague!...
Beautiful. Just beautiful. Thank you so much for capturing this and sharing it with all of us. You are a true master.
Hey Stanley! So glad you liked it and what a great tune and fun to reharmonize it. Play on good man!
@@PeterSpragueMusic I should be screaming at you for showing me I'll never be able to play this tune even remotely close to how well you (and many others) have played it. Historically I have allowed myself to be more frustrated than inspired from watching the great masters play. I'll never forget how I felt the night I saw Stanley Jordan play a concert in Stanford, circa 1985ish. OH MY! My mind was blown. When I got home to my guitars, I just stared at them as if they were total strangers. The same thing happened 20 years later when I say Charlie Hunter with his 8-string bass/guitar - HE WAS PLAYING BASS, RHTYTHM & LEAD ALL AT THE SAME TIME! WTH? But I charged on and kept playing. I remember you (I think it was you?) once wrote something in one of your lessons book... in the Forward... something like, "Here's my book of lessons... see you in a year!" THAT made so much sense to me. PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE! LISTEN, LEARN. I'm now 56 and finally feel I have become a real student, one who listens and I'm practicing! I have been playing my own 2-note (with a few added chords) version of 'My Favorite Things" since I was 16. I've not progressed much on it in 40 years. But now I have a HUGE amount of inspiration to push it to higher levels. So I will scream THANK YOU! to you and... I'll see you in a year! Thanks again for your music. PEACE and HEALTH to you and yours. Stanley
Hey@@stanleyshook2011 thanks and loved your note. And yep, that was me, "see you in a year pal". That's what it takes and it's a good thing if you can get into the flow of LOVING to practice. Stay on it good man and have fun! all best, Peter
Magnifique as we say here
Beautiful !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mr. Sprague.. What can I say.. Perfect
Hello again. I just noticed you too have the duel Julie Andrews/John Coltrane smooshed love/memories of
"My Favorite Things"
Love your comment here and you are absolutely right-mash of Trans and Andrews, Love and soprano sax!

Peter Sprague actually I plan to steal your Absus when we think G13#11 is coming ✊️oops - I meant on your Desafinado!!!
It's yours my good man and I probably ripped it off from somewhere else. And yeah, it's on Desifinado and a good way to harmonize that sometimes pesky Eb....all best Adam!
