  • I don't know how many hours I spent on this, it felt like at least 10 combined. Everyone's run of this boss looks vastly different and it's fun to see how people tackle this challenge, so I thought I'd contribute my attempt. There are surely easier ways to beat this boss but this was my way.

    The weapon art on the shield, by the way, is "Vow of the Indomitable". Check the southwest Liurnian swamp for a scarab if you don't have it. The skill on the sword is "Giant Hunt" dropped by "Night's Cavalry" (night exclusive enemy) in north Liurnia (among the clusterfuck of enemies near the northmost side of the broken bridge to the Acadamy).

    The fact that she heals off of non-physical chip damage is pretty scuffed. Good idea with the shield art. There's a few other 'long' attacks in the game that are equally obnoxious that I think that technique would be great for.

    An answer for every move combined with the patience of a saint, and surgical precision; excellent job
    I'm running double greatswords myself in Ng+ hahaha

    • @HelixSnake
      @HelixSnake  2 роки тому +3

      I wouldn't have called the second half surgical precision lmao but thanks! I definitely felt like I "Solved" the first half aside from constantly getting hit by that one sneaky triple slash (but that one hit does barely any damage so I didn't bother trying to learn to properly dodge it)
      Honestly any run of this boss is going to look surgically precise because you have to be! The fight snowballs if she hits you because she heals and it undoes your progress. You have to learn to reliably dodge (almost) everything and never rely on guessing.

    • @HelixSnake

      My biggest mistake was in the second half I accidentally used the shield's ash of war instead of my giant hunt punish, and ran out of FP while leaving her in an offensive state - if she had decided to Waterfowl Dance at that time (as she often does when I screw that up!) that attempt would have failed. Luckily some of her string enders, while not great for punishing, are a great opportunity to take a drink, so I recovered from that mistake

    On the dash towards you triple slash move, when you hear the arm clink, dodge towards and left or right of her to avoid all three swipes.
    I personally like to strafe to her left and dodge into most of her strikes. Her range can be very tough to escape.
    Solid fight!

    • @Noobzlikeu

      Dodging into her for the last part works as well, since it will make her fly right past you if you do it right. The thing about From Software is that they like to try to fake you out into thinking that getting up close is suicide, so when you put some distance between yourself and the boss, you're taken by surprise when you get killed by their ranged mechanics.

    This is one of very few bosses that could make me try again and again, even through I'm mage. She is small, she is quick, she dodges spells and she pushes agressively, which combined with low vigor means many moves oneshot(or one-combo) me. My solution was to debuff her with Ranni's Full Moon(doing two casts from very far away, giving her both full moon debuff and frostbite) because it's large and slow, and so Malenia can't dodge it, and damage her with Stars of Ruin because they confuse her a lot, making her dodge left to right without attacking, while stars are shooting. Still took me like 4 hours, because, well anime combo-wombo is deadly as hell, and I don't have shield to counter it

    Good fucking job on that fight. Altho that greedy hit at the end could've been fatal if it wasn't for the UGS natural poise.
    That triple slice is easily dodgeable if you do it towards her, just need to watch out for the turn around but she usually gets stuck in that animation until its done and by the time she does whatever follow-up, you'll be at a safe distance to react.

    • @HelixSnake
      @HelixSnake  2 роки тому

      That move has really strong hyper armor. There was no chance I was going to die there unless she somehow managed to dodge it, and if I hadn't continued to attack I'd have had no time to get the shield out and cast the weapon art before she killed me.

  • @Noobzlikeu
    @Noobzlikeu 2 роки тому +1

    Just as a tip, during Waterfowl Dance, if you dodge into her on her first attack, then away from her, then into her when she jumps again, you can dodge the entire thing in both phases. The timing is kind of hard to get down though.

      I tried this and found that I could not rely on it completely; maybe I was doing it wrong but it felt very dependent on how far away I was from her when she started, and in some scenarios where she starts it from a fair distance I would still get caught by the first burst and die from dodging towards her.

    It took me like 2 hours to beat this boss, but I used Mimic spirit.
    Double handed the Temple Knights Sword or whatever it was called (real early on longsword) with Holy Buttslam as my ability.
    I tried using my unga bunga build for like the first hour (Grafted Blade) but it was just too slow for her.
    I was at the point I was going to respec entirely to equip some of the more powerful upgrades swords I had if only so my mimic could use the specials lol.

    • @HelixSnake
      @HelixSnake  2 роки тому

      I was stubbornly dedicated to beating this boss "my way". No spirits, no overpowered strats (I consider bloodhound step to be overtuned and broken so I will not use it even in PVP) and no switching out my weapons or respeccing. It took a hell of a lot longer but it was really satisfying in the end, and I'm glad I stuck to my guns when the temptation to put bloodhound step on something or use a spirit ash was pretty high.

    I swear I killed her in two tries.... I think I got lucky though, Blasphemous Blade L2 completely destroyed her, and that with the mimic also knocking her down, it was not even a challenge. BUT I do think I got lucky with the mimic uses of the L2 and her pattern.

    Well played, the pumpkin hat carried you though.
    That waterfowl dance at 6:10 was spooky and the way you finished her was pretty badass

    • @HelixSnake
      @HelixSnake  2 роки тому

      pumpkin hat is actually a really bad trade off in terms of the ratio for defense to equip load. Only reason I'm using it is because my build is optimized for nudity fashion-wise and it's the best I can get without switching out my chest or leg armor (which I have to use very specific armor for to maintain the nudity aesthetic). I could actually get a lot better armor rating if I went for function over fashion. Honestly what really carried me was Godrick's rune, I'm at the level 125 meta that some people suggest for PVP so I'm using radagan's soreseal to boost some of my stats and using godrick's rune and a rune arc lets me unequip that and get considerably better defense. Although if I wasn't limiting my level I could get those stats up there pretty easily without Godrick's rune.
      So yeah I would definitely not agree that the pumpkin hat carried me considering it's only making up for the sacrifices I'm making on chest and leg armor to keep the nudity fashion aesthetic. I also had the Dragoncrest Greatshield talisman and that helped tremendously with the fight since all of the damage she does is physical (even the damage that should do "crimson rot" damage does physical damage, I confirmed this with the "heal from non physical damage" physicks flask). Golden Vow in the 2nd phase also boosted my defense further. It's really important to get as much damage negation as you can in this fight because you need as much leeway as possible to take some hits in the 2nd phase because that moveset is really hard to learn, because it's so different from phase 1 and you have to beat phase 1 every time you want to learn more about phase 2.
