    I noticed something similar with the Ioniq 5. I was at 4% going uphill on the highway and it went to low power mode until I got it back downhill when it went away. My exit was there and it was mostly flat so I didn't see it again until 0% when I was two miles away from the charging station. Definitely got my attention, but all was well.

    If I am correct you lose more power when converting DC to AC (you have to use an inverter). From AC to DC the loss is less (just like your phone charger). That would explain the loss of about 0.4kW DC to AC and only 0.1kW from AC to DC.

    • @TheStopwatchGod
      @TheStopwatchGod Рік тому +2

      That's correct to some degree. The newest GaN chargers are more efficient than inverters, since the Ioniq sending out 3.6kW and the cable receiving 3.1kW means an 86% efficiency, which is spot on with older silicon based phone chargers. My Anker GaN charger however has been tested and it showed 93% efficiency at the full 120W output.

    I did a similar test by trying to use my Atto 3 to charge my Tesla Model 3. Unfortunately both the Tesla Mobile Connector and the BYD EVSE reported errors when plugged in to the BYD's V2L adapter. It seems that this is due to the lack of ground, which I suspect might be down to regulations where I live (Australia). If I were to import the same mobile EVSE that Bjorn has used in this video, it will likely work (but might not be compliant to local regulations).

    • @DirkHenningsen

    71% charging efficiency is not too bad for V2L, carTOcar. you have to account DC-AC conversion of the energy donor car (somewhere around 85%) then you have on board ac charger efficiency (85%ish) and power los of the cable.
    but you have to consider the efficiency of the charging process of the battery from the grid, this brings a total efficiency to 57%.
    for comparison grid efficiency is around 95% with a total efficiency of 81%.

    "400 volt" CCS standard can actually deliver 50-500 volts. "800 volt" CCS2 stanndard, if I remember right, is 250-920 volts. So all "400 volt" chargers that follow standard can deliver 500 volts.

    • @eMobilitytoday_de
      @eMobilitytoday_de Рік тому

      That's not true. You swapped volts and amps.
      The CCS Standard 2 is capable of delivering 500 amps, not 500 volts. However, Tesla, for example, does not adhere to this standard, so that more than 200kW charging power can be supplied with 400-volt systems even with the CCS-2 plug from Tesla.

    • @rainelakkala1351
      @rainelakkala1351 Рік тому +1

      @@eMobilitytoday_de No I didn't swap anything. Voltage range in CCS 1.0 standard is 50-500 V and in CCS 2.0 standard 200-920 V (I checked and I didn't remember right the minimum). For example the fat e-tron battery voltage is over 400 volts when full so it would be impossible to charge it full if the charger voltage range ended to 400 volts.

    I believe (but happy to be corrected) that you can charge 800V in pack series and 400V in pack parallel, ie when you plug into 800V the BMS supplies the power across 2x cells (where x is pack) - so in series, and why you plug into a 400V supply the BMS connects the supply across 1x cells - so there is no 400V DC to 800V DC which is relatively inefficient process.
    This means each pack has a 400V and 800V tap point

    It would be much faster to just tow the dead car with the full car (or any car). Then you can just use regen. If you are towed by some strong tractor, you might get up to 30 or 60 kW regen. That would give you plenty of range in a matter of minutes (the vehicle that tows, on the other end will need to burn extra energy).

      I hope there is still a buffer, because if you deep unload cells they take a hit longterm

      You will be punished if you discharge the battery below zero and then abandon the car without charging. Especially critical in cold conditions. You should try to immediately charge to at least 20 or better 50 % after such an event.

    That horrible noice when you leave the car in your pocket, which they didn't fix since 2019 Kona is the reason why i wouldn't buy any new Hyundai. I'll bet you still can't make that door will unlock with shift P and engine off ( you can only choose one of these options)

      Coz you gave silly answer. If you drive with kids sometimes you need to jump out and out them in or out and it's is just idiotical that I have to switch the engine off or coming back to driver door to unlock other doors. This is not the only stupid thing, I can name at least 5 similar

      It really isn't. As the BMS cares for the battery health.

    • @bjornnyland
      @bjornnyland  Рік тому +1

      No it isn't. There's bottom buffer and the cells are not discharged that low to damage the battery.

    • @Lascarnn
      @Lascarnn Рік тому +1

      @@bjornnyland But Kia/Hyundai manuals clearly state that for achieve lowest degradation, one should most often charge to 20%-80%. Discharging to 0% (+ very small buffer) is like using dozens (if not hundreds) 20%-80% cycles. Where am I wrong?

    • @nettlesoup
      @nettlesoup Рік тому +3

      @@Lascarnn If you leave the battery at 0% SOC for several hours or days that's not ideal.
      For 30 minutes? No problem. The battery cells are not below their lowest safe voltage because the BMS won't allow them to go that low. So there is still a small bricking buffer before significant damage can be done. If you do this test once per year the additional degradation will be imperceptible.
      The main thing you need to be careful about at this low SOC is that you have enough juice left in your 12V battery because the car stops charging the 12V battery to preserve the main traction battery.

    yes i know it's public place but i would argue that non-Christians would not be attending church and if some did, they may not be happy being DOXXED online (since reg plate is unique to it's car owner)
