Hi guys, welcome to another Electro Review. This time we are looking at the Bluebell Hideaway Hutch for small animals such as Rabbits or Guinea Pigs.
Thats right, we have Rabbits and therefore we needed to get a hutch to house them and this was recommended by the staff at the local Pets at Home Branch that we also got the rabbits.
The Bluebell Hideaway is a 2 level hutch, it has 4 doors and 1 living area which has a solid wooden door rather than mesh.
The hutch measures 112cm high, 152cm wide and 61cm deep so is ample for 2 rabbits.
The hutch is flat packed so will need to be built but the instructions for the Bluebell Hideaway are really clear as are the markings on the packaging which assist with the build. To see how easy the build is you can watch me build the hutch here.
Overall we gave the hutch 4 out of 5 because although it is a great hutch there are some flaws. Watch the video to see more and find out where that extra star has gone.

As this video is now 9 years old you might not still be on here. Just wanted to say thanks. I’m hopeless at anything like this but managed to build it following your tips. One very happy ten year old daughter. Cheers mate.
Thanks for posting this video. I was just looking for a suitable hutch for my rabbits and this gives a much better idea of it than the picture on the website of Pets At Home. You've helped me to confirm that it will work for my two. It's very similar to what they have now. For warmth, we have always used a cover in winter.
I really appreciate you making this video.I am about to buy this hutch and watching how to do it will make it much easier than reading instructions. Thank you !!
so helpful, i just got this for my new rabbit, I'm going to attempt to put it up myself as it seems so easy,
What a legend just saved my life with this video. Me trying to put this up 😂
We bought this hutch yesterday and built it today. About halfway through we got stuck and this tutorial helped us out a lot. After watching, we were able to complete it straight away! Thank you :)
I'm glad it helped you out. You have made a good choice it's a decent hutch. Ours is still going strong.
Thanks, i was thinking of getting this for my rabbit and this has just sealed the deal 😂👍
this is very useful since i got my 3 month old bunny recently and my bro is gonna set it up tomorrow for me, so at least i will know now especially when we introduce a friend with her eventually! thank you :)
I am getting this for my birthday and I am so exited! Thank you for making this video! It has helped me allot! 😊
Pls don't waste your money i have one and i haven't had it for two months an that shit is falling apart build your own
this is so helpful no one else does this sort of thing so this helped me out a BUNCH
Thanks, that means a lot.
Thanks for the video! It helped me build it as I bought it second hand with no instructions. Pets At Home should sponsor you 🙌🏽👍🏻
love that hutch so much!🤗 now I want a rabbit
Fantastic video! We have 2 bunnies and the hutch we currently have I think will be too small when they are bigger (ours are 4 months old) come next spring. I have been eyeing up this hutch and hopefully going to attach a large run off the side of it. In regards to keeping them warm over winter .. in their "bedroom" compartment be sure to use lots of straw. I use blankets and straw (almost double the usual amount) to keep them warm. Also I have a tarpaulin to cover the hutch in wind and rain. Thank you for this review!! Very helpful!!
Thank you!! I pretty much put it on backwards until I found this! So helpful
Why would anyone give a thumbs down for this, it will really help me tomorrow when I try and put this together! It is good of you to take the time to do this as you are helping us more than yourself here so thanks for your time and effort.
Thanks Flo. It's helped us when we needed to take it down a d rebuild it when we moved last year. Hope the build goes well. Ours is nearly 3 years old and still going strong.
It did, the video made it really easy and we enjoyed setting this up! Good to hear it is still standing. :)
Brilliant! I'm thinking of getting this hutch for guinea pigs I'm wanting to insulate it and use lino for the floor too really helpful instructions to construct it and final review.
Thank you for the review etc. put our together today and it was easy. 😊
Getting a rabbit in October and was thinking of this cage looks pretty good 👍
Your rabbits are adorable!💕
Thanks, they are much bigger now.
Just bought this cage and you have made it look easy
Its a big hutch to build but is fairly easy.
Dawn Coleman it is easy
Have just built one myself for our guinea pigs.
After getting a little lost on the instructions re back / floor assembly, this video sorted me right out.
To your point on durability, I faced the floors with thin correx board to deal with damp, urine spots. Hoping this will offset the cheap floating material...
This was sooo useful. my parents won't let the guinea pigs inside but I'm saving up for the awesome hutch.!! 🐹🐇🐰😃😃
Thank you Adz. Hope your build goes smoothly.
Thank you.@electro views
helped me out alot lol thanks
Thank you so much for this video
You are welcome.
Thanks for the video. Even after 5 years it's been very helpful as the instructions were just not very descriptive
You're welcome! Im glad it helped as I agree the instructions are rubbish.
the thermal cover on pets at home is amazing for winter. really knocks out the cold and keeps them warm.
Is it also waterproof? I know there is a separate waterproof cover but I don't see the point of buying two £80 covers if the thermal one is water proof
O K then yes it is. far thicker than the normal hutch cover too. I recommend it if your pigs are outdoor most of the time as they love to be warm. it also stops things like bugs getting in. :) hope i helped with any confusion
thank you that really helped
Buy a £5 sheet of Tarpaulin and fit it yourself. £80 is extortionate.
What did you do to hold the bottom floor up? Mine just drops through the bottom
Great review. Please could you let me know how the hutch has held up over time?
I am thinking of buying one but not sure if the saving over alternative products is worth it in the long run.
Many thanks.
Im looking at purchasing this hutch but im just worried about the section of wood for the floors breaking
Do you reckon i could ask my dad to add and extra layer of wood on top of both of them?
I've just bought this hutch, can't believe how big it is
Im glad you got one. Its a great hutch and has plenty of room.
I have a hutch cover over the top and the upstairs, is that fine?
Wish I could purchase this in the U.S. 😞 We have crap for hutch options here.
Exactly
Build your own buddy
Yeah, they suck
Stephen Tolman I cantttttt, I wish I could tho
purchased this but the piggies won't go up the ramp, please help, any tips?
Say you wanted to remove the stairs could you separate the top bit from the bottom by covering the hole ?
Thank you for the video.
6 years on and they are still selling this model although the back panels and roof now come in 2 peices (Making 4 back panels). The build quality has not improved and none of our factory fitted latches lined up either.
In your comments you've mentioned a few modifications you have made, can you recall what they were?
I have added a strip of wood at the bottom of the centre mesh windows to stop the sawdust from falling out as easily.
I have also lined the raised wood areas with Aluminium to stop our rabbit chewing it.
We lined our floors with some kitchen bathroom Lino, so far its good.
If I recall correctly I just lined the floor with lino to stop any urine from rotting the wood. Ours is still going strong but I do have to replace one of the internal walls that separates the bed from the living area as one of the rabbits has chewed through it so it just falls over. I have also put some extra latches on the doors because we now has a 2 year old boy that likes to open things!
Would u recommend me getting this hutch??!!
Clear instructions. Yeah right.
Your video was great and a big thank you. But we had to take a apart twice because the instructions made no sense.
Hi is it easy to cleaning ?
Would this tutorial work for the 6ft one?
Thanks
Hi is the floor strong ?
Brillant video, however i've a problem.
All worked well untill 5:36 when you put the lower floor in, what's stopping it falling though?
I know I'm very late, but if your bottom is falling down you have the lower front panel upside down
Hi suitable for French lop rabbit?
Is it possible to fit vinyl flooing in the hutch? It would be usfull covering up the wood and waterproofing it.
Yes, it is. That is exactly what we have done to protect the floor a little better. You can get Vinyl squares cheap online.
Thank you for the demo. This is now £150 for the 6ft one and £130 for the 5ft so I guess petsathome have bumped their prices up.
£170 today
Thx this helped cuz instructions kinda confusing
Excellent thanks for watching. The instructions were pretty rubbish weren't they.
Hi have you put the new video on with new modifications thanks.
+Charlotte Berry. Hi, its on its way and I will upload it soon.
These cages are ok for indoors
I'm currently building this hitch but how do you get the floor to stay without it falling out as there is nothing to support it? Thanks
Never mind I figured it out ☺️
Hi +Sophie and Bunny, Sorry was busy at work. As you have probably seen it just kind of falls into place and is held up by the small bits of wood that go around the base of the top floor and again on the bottom floor.
Nearly 1 year on and ours is still going strong, but we have added a few modifications which I will probably do a follow up video on. Hope the build went well. :)
Can tow Guinea pigs fit in this cage haw much dus this cage cost from pets at home
Yes two will fit nicely and its about £80 now at P@H.
For the winter you can get a hutch cover with insterlaition
It's like 75 pounds
Can you take the ramp out and make 2 seperate cages
Yes, you can. In fact, that is what we have done as our two started fighting. You can use the Ramp as the floor to cover the gap but need some basic carpentry skills and tools to do it. Either that or place a larger bit of wood over the gap.
The minimum size requirement for a pair of rabbits is a 6ft x 2ft x 2ft sleeping areas with a 8ft x 4ft x 2ft run permanently attached :)
Hi I love this video and I just got the FOXGLOVE hutch for my guinea pigs yesterday and they love it!!! Did your Rabbits immediately use stairs in hutches? Or did you have to help them? Because at my Grandmas I have 2 rabbits and at mine have guinea pigs and the guinea pigs won’t use the stairs without placing them on it so do you have Any tips?
Yes they did use them straight away. We had to separate them though when we had then Neutered as they started fighting. I would leave them to explore, they will use the stairs in time. Thanks for the comment and glad it helped.
Electro Reviews I was away for a bit so I am hoping when we get back they have used it we would put them on the stairs to make them know it is safe for them but they wouldn’t use it but my Mam said it is because they haven’t been with the double stairs hutch for a year and they just won’t pick it up!! Thanks for the help though!!!
We weren’t given screws? I’m so confused.
This is the 5Ft wide version. The 6FT is better because the bottom right door is solid as well, which is useful if you need to separate your rabbits/pets and remove the stairs, cover the hole and still give the downstairs pet shade.
Im considering getting the 6 foot one, but ive heard its quite hard to clean? Is this true?
@@Phoebe248 no it's not particularly hard to clean at all. The middle off the hutch is the hardest to reach area upstairs and downstairs on the 6ft hutch, as there are no central doors, just fixed wire walls. I brought a dustpan and soft brush. Makes it all really easy, especially with daily or every other day cleans. I wouldn't recommended filling all the floorspace with hay, put something like a large flower pot downstairs and fill that daily. You'll have lots less waste and it'll make cleaning easier, save you money and be healthier for the rabbit(s). I keep a litter tray with sawdust, my rabbits poop in that and another corner I put straw for bedding. Good luck.
@@gazf6163 ok Thanks, I think I will get the hutch!
Oh good, you grabbed your 1980s cordless drill!! LOL!!!
Humm do drills go bad??
Yes, epic drill. I have new Worx one now though.
I bought this hutch last summer but the wood basically split and fell apart which is annoying I loved this hutch it's so big haha
That doesn't sound good. We have always kept ours under cover and out of the rain so its still going strong. The only problem has been one of the rabbits pushing over the wooden divider between the hutch and the bed.
@@Electro-Review haha yeah it wasn't good, it was in right against our house in a corner so it was sheltered so I don't know what happened but I'm going to build my own, mine ate most of that part haha
What do u do when it rains?
Ours was originally under cover but now we have them in an old bike shed so we can close the doors at night. This means the hutch is still in good condition years later (has few bite marks), and the bunnies are safe from foxes.
by the way guys this cage is now cut to £80 😘😍
Make sure you have some kind of secure run or supervised time outside to run every day!!!
Thanks for the tip. Yes we have 2 separate runs and a much bigger garden since we moved.
@@Electro-Review that's great!
This hutch is now 109 for 5 foot and 145 for 6 foot
At 4:11 when you put the 2 B screws it's actually a
oops. Yes you are right. Thanks
Great video tho loved it SOOO much! It helped me and my dad out a lot! Your a great you tuber! Just subscribed
How many Guinea pigs dose it say you can have in it
It doesn't say but I would say maximum of 2 (but obviously as guinea pigs should never be housed alone ) min 1
+E Haigh I think 3 to 4 and 2 rabbits
You can litter train rabbits so urinating on the floor is not a problem
Does pets at home ship to California???
Sadly not. I am not sure if there is an equivalent in the US. I will see if I can find out.
Electro Reviews okay thank you
pets at home is the UK's version of petsmart or petco.
Total material to make this hutch is around£30-35. If you're half good at DIY it's better to simply make on from scratch.
I agree as you could also use better quality wood and treat it. That being said my wife purchased this so it saved me some time!
How much was this hutch?
Hi, It's currently sold by Pets at Home for £89.
Electro Reviews thanks xx
I have rhiavhutch
Can you. Pot your Rabbits'
?? Pot them?
Can you buy it in the U.S.A?
Sadly not. Pets at Home only ship within the UK. If I hear of anything I will let you know though.
Okay thank you
So this is a good hutch for 2 small rabbits.. but NOT for a Big Flemish rabbit. It was to small for her and she couldn’t stretch or lay down, so this is not suitable for a big rabbit! When the rain got into it, it made the hutch mouldy and cold! (PS my opinion)
आम्हाला घ्यायचा आहे की तिला देशाल
Umm how much? :)
+Lps smoothies Official It varies depending on where you buy it (online or in store). Its £99 online and in store at the moment but you normally get a discount online.
+Electro Reviews oh ok thanks I am getting Guinea pigs
it's now £80 x
+Chloe Parker aww thx
I use to have a pets at home hutch and they use cheap plywood that doesn’t last 5 minutes outside and don’t forget that pets at home hutches rot over time as it is wood inside our pets at home hutch roof broke and the hutch had rotted inside as well. Pets at home hutches are cheap tat if you want a hutch you need a proper wood hutch go for the eggshell website for hutches they are expensive but they are worth it. My pets at Home hutch got damaged and we bought the eggshell hutch and it is not wood inside so it doesn’t rot it is proper wood outside and round bits of hutch but is metal inside of where the rabbit sits. You still need to put Lino in the eggshell hutch and newspapers and wood shavings and straw and hay
This is too small for rabbits get a shed as that’s a better size rabbits need 60sq inches and yes that’s for the uk
Charlotte Allen I have this for my rabbit but he free roams my garden all day and has the choice to go In the hutch or the garden but at night he goes in his hutch, is that alright?
OMG you're using a hand screwdriver WTF?
yes that didnt last long though!
You will be better off going to home depot an get some real wood
not everyone can built a hutch like this
Does this video have swearing?
No
This is too small for rabbits
Ours fit in there just fine. They have been happy for the last year as well. I would suggest they get a daily run outside of the hutch though!
Electro Reviews I was just basing it on the RSPCA bare minimum, which this hutch doesn't satisfy
Kunaal Gupta I have it for rabbits, it's 5x2 ft and I have a 4x4 ft run attached via cat flap, it's small in a way but is good.
Kunaal Gupta
Well this is probably only for the summer and I’m sure he lets them out to play and also, it’s not any of our business so we shouldn’t be criticizing him for what he thinks is best for his rabbits
Kunaal Gupta it’s not you say it on rabbit and guinea pig cages set up or tours and you really need to shut your mouth
