  • If your Yukon, Tahoe, or Suburban needs a new fuel pump, this video will give you the exact measurements you need to cut a hole in the floor of your truck so you don't have to drop the fuel tank to change your fuel pump.
    Measurement diagram here: drive.google.com/file/d/13lFM...
Please take the following safety precautions:
    - Do not use a saw or cut off wheel! Use a pneumatic sheet metal trimmer to avoid sparks and cutting any wires or fuel lines
    - When removing the old fuel pump, use a brass punch and a hammer to avoid making any sparks
    - Do not use a shop vac to vacuum up any debris when cleaning the tank surface for the new fuel pump. Use a compressed air vacuum attachment

This is in a much easier location than my 99 Expedition. Thanks, now I can fix the cheap Yukon I just picked up off the marketplace.

My Tahoe started right up after we replaced the fuel pump. We did also replace the fuel filter, which isn't easy either, but if you have a mechanical bone in your body, you can do it.
I have a 2002 Chevy Tahoe, LT, 5.3 lt engine, four wheel drive, and found out through all of this it's a flex fuel. Look at the vin number.
The metal is very thin, and if you are right on top of the fuel pump be careful, and mine was back a bit further than most. I have two things that people don't bring up about their Tahoes, I have a sunroof and I have barn doors. There are very few out there, anymore, and I'm not sure if that makes any difference, but my Tahoe is always a bit different than most. It also has a towing package that came with it.
It took my husband some time to finally bite the bullet and start cutting through the floor of my Tahoe. Mine was so pretty and painted, but he finally did it. I think we would have been done hours earlier, but it's a hard thing to cut metal right over the gas tank.
There should be a hatch why didn't Chevy do that, well maybe someday one of you can go work for GM, after Trump gets back in office and give them so of your great ideas.

You know. I watched a vid. and it was a BMW. They had a hatch already manufactured into the vehicles body. There is no way that I can't believe GM isn't smart enough to do the same!!! With that in mind, fuel pumps are another one of their items they try force feeding us into, it has to be a Dealer Repair.
So, I get the joys of attempting mine this weekend. Thank you to the Moon and Back, American Motor Vehicle Manufactures, your the Best 👍🤥.

Nice video. One of my recommendations when replacing these fuel pumps is to get the lock ring removal tool. Makes removal and reinstallation very easy and you don't run the risk of punching a hole in your plastic tank with a punch or screwdriver. Another recommendation from a guy on the Z71 Tahoe Suburban forum is to cut out some sheet metal from a junker at the yard to make the cover with. Should better match the contour of the base metal.

I can confirm you can cut the hole with sheet metal shears. The kind they sell for HVAC ductwork.

They have a tool called nibbler's just for sheet metal we used to use building metal buildings thinking they might work 😅

If you have any questions about location, you can get one of the endoscope cameras for your phone and look. Trust the Mk 1 Md 0 eyeball.

It's easier to drop the gastank 😂

    • @pimpdaddysatan
      @pimpdaddysatan Місяць тому

Not for me.. I'll gladly unbolt the back seat and push the carpet aside and use a saw all with a metal blade, or grinder, I have both.. my suburban just has an extra step of removing the sound system amp under the back seat first.. but still easier than dropping the gas tank. 👍
