Would you take the GT or the Dark Horse? Or take a chance and wait for the inevitable Shelby? Let us know in the comments.
Dark horse, if money is no options. But, $70k is a lot.
Think I'd rather take the 70k and go get an older GT350R and put about 10k into it while also using the remainder on tires for track use. Or just get a 1LE 2SS which is still the better track car while keeping the price at 30-40k total.
None. Rather take a Shelby gt350 or c8 for that price.
Wouldn't get either for anything near MSRP. They're both mass produced cars.
@@jp23x as opposed to??????
The 2022 GT with the 10 speed goes 0-60 in 3.9 seconds, and it only cost me $40,000 brand new. I’ll happily keep the $30,000 change! I won’t miss the huge screens and unique badges THAT much.
Citation needed for the 0-60 time... I can only find 4.2s with the 1-ft rollout. That said, S550 still faster than the "dark horse"? Sounds like Ford has the marketing smoke machine cranked to 11 for this one.
The Dark Horse, minus the great brakes, is pure Ford Marketing. I am not sure why they got rid of the GT-350 platform. Such a special "in-between" performance wise.
Here’s Motor Trend’s ($43k) 2018 SS1LE (Manual) Performance Numbers:
1. 0-60 sprint in 4.1 seconds.
2. 1/4 mile in 12.5 seconds at 115.2 mph.
3. Braking test: 93 feet
4. Figure 8: 24.0
2024 ($75-80k) Darkhorse w/Track bits:
1. 0-60 in 4.6
2. 1/4 mile in 12.8
3. Braking test: 94 feet
4. Figure 8: 23.7 (10-speed Auto)
The Dark Horse turned a faster lap time than the SS 1LE on Throttle houses track …….
Driver mod
@@oml_itz_cheerio2915 the mustangs are just as capable as the Camaros. Yes the feel may be different . Edmunds needs the driver mod. They always Butcher Mustang test.
By 1 second, for 20 grand more.
@@Edge-mv3jw 1 second is significant on the racetrack. The car overall is nicer. You are paying for more than its track capabilities.
@@AB-coyote 1 second over the course of multiple laps is what’s significant. Overall, the car is not objectively better. The Camaro (may it rest in peace) still has better transmission (in both automatic and manual) smoother shifts, better steering feedback, better chassis tuning, better brake feel and communication, and overall has more performance per dollar than the Mustang.
Got mine yesterday. Same exact car/color. It tears up the back roads. Have fun.
I have a very heavily modified whippled 10R80 2020 GT which would most definitely beat a GT500 in a straight line and give it a scare around a circuit but I will not buy the S650. However, if Ford produces an update with AWD in the next few years I’d pay a premium for it because an AWD Mustang especially a boosted one will be a complete game changer especially if they can offset the extra weight somehow.
Great job on this video! Appreciate the time comparison to other Mustangs you guys have tested. That price tag is absolutely ridiculous. Put those cheater trofeo rs tires on a Mach 1 and it would have a better lap time. The Dark Horse is all about the tires which makes it’s price tag even more insulting
12.8 @ 111.6 mph is quite mediocre times for the Dark Horse.
Maybe it was super hot, was pulling timing? I find it pretty slow too
To be fair it’s not really a drag focused car right? If it’s fun and reliably fast around a track or canyon road that is what I think it’s focus is on.
My 12 5.0 was just as fast 😂
@@ALMX5DP absolutely we’re just pointing out that it’s not super impressive even compared to previous gen GT
@@louisolivierfortin sure, like you said variables and conditions could account for something there. Only reference I found was MotorTrend testing the Mach 1 at 12.6 in the 1/4 so sounds like straight line performance wasn’t necessarily improved upon. Will be interesting to see where the improvements are.
$70,000! I'll sacrifice the 2 rear seats, spend a little more to get a corvette.
and i think that american... im from canada where everything is 30% more
C8 goes for MSRP all over my area.
Great point
No manual gearbox though
Corvettes are pretty nice but I look at the history of Covette and in its life span it has sold about 2 million units(cars) so you figure in the years made and units sold it’s the most unprofitable car ever made🤔🤔 How the heck do they keep making them. They got rid of the Camaro because of profit sold about 5 mil over its life span
❤Beautiful car thank you for sharing God bless you
Dark horse vs mach 1 u drag!!
vs 1le manual also!
awesome ,just awesome
Nice car but for the same price I'd get a base Stingray.
or a used GT500
OORAH! Agreed...
How does the manual feel in comparison to the TR6060 in the Camaro?
I would buy neither. I feel the appearance suffered with the latest iteration. My initial impression was... Camaro passed through a Kia EV filter. The shape is smoother and more generic, less visual energy and emotion. The recent GT350 is probably going to be my Best Mustang ever followed closely by the unicorn Boss 429.
Much rather have my GT 350. With the same tires I'm certain the times on the Shelby with equal drivers is faster.
The 1le would be faster as well. The Darkhorse is on an R Compound Tire. People are conveniently forgetting that.
And so we are taking "UA-cam Reviewers " with a cornfield as a racetrack seriously?
@@backnuwhat are you smoking man. No doubt the 1LE is best bang for buck but the Mach 1 was faster on equal tires what makes you think it would hang with a gt350 that was made to take down the mighty z28. Come on man 😂
Now for more than the cost of a GT350 and approaching the cost of a non-marked up GT500... you get a Dark Horse... big whoop.
Not really when the gt350s first came out they where 48k that was a gutted car with no coolers. It was a 6k option for the tech or track pack. Ford got into hot water because of limp mode issues on the base cars and made the coolers added for the 2017 MY but the car went up to almost 60k base. Then things got even more weird when NVH issues, engine failures caused ford to keep increasing costs to counteract the warranty issues. By the time they ended production the GT350 was a 65k car and I’m not even talking about the R. I agree the dark horses biggest problem is the misguided price. Ford should have added 15-20hp or used carbon, more aluminum. To drop weight in a few years when they cars get out done by the next hot thing and you can get a good deal. It’s a great car but today MEH
They were only 65k because they came essentially standard with track package and convenience package.
I have driven the new GT & the Dark Horse. They are significantly better made & better performers than the S550 and Mach 1, hands down obviously better. I just don’t like the weight of the DH. The GT is within 7-10 pounds of the S550 GT. The increase of $10K price for both is due to the hideous inflation caused by biden‼️‼️‼️There is no getting around the shitty price. The Corvette C8 is decent but not worth the price either. I have 2 family members that own the Stingray and Z06. Good cars but MOST definitely over-priced also. We have tested the 0-60 on the Stingray and it has never come close to the advertised 2.9”!!! The best we have gotten is 3.7” and NO manual transmission. So we really don’t have the choices that we previously had. I have 9 laps at the track in a Dark Horse. It was very good but when I get one, I will seriously reduce its weight down to 3675 pounds so it is a better performer. The guys on UA-cam “Middleton Performance repeatedly got 89’ in braking 60-0 which places that in some top tier rivals!!!! ThrottleHouse did very well on their track with the DH. So reducing weight by 200 pounds will make an improvement especially for track & daily driving. Your review was a bit too negative which I have seen this attitude of negativity in some of your other reviews. That actually SUCKS‼️ Please focus on more positive attributes. Anyone can find negative issues about most cars!!! I am definitely surprised about the improvements in the new Mustangs and I really noticed the paint to be enhanced. Overall the Ford Engineers improved over >113 areas over the S550!!! So thank you to Ford!!! This is the best Mustang GT and I had a 2021 Mach 1 and the Dark Horse is definitely better!!! Go drive the cars!!! They will surprise you!!!!
👍💪😎🇺🇸
@@GoGoggansGopeople just throw gt350 out there that never drove or owned one. It’s my favorite mustang but it’s not the best one for ownership. Mach 1 hp unless money is free then get gt350r🎉
$70-80k for LESS than 1 second (vs) the $45k SS1LE??
And for those mentioning the THROTTLE HOUSE COMPARISON:
They specifically said the SS1LE was STILL the better track car/driver’s car in terms of steering feel and front end feedback.
@edmundscar,
How about a full comparison test with a mint/low mileage SS1LE (vs) This Darkhorse??
Mine’s available…💯
The ss1le is also slower around a track than both Mach 1 and dh so…
We’re talking a tenth of a second here , and 1 second over there.
Nobody is bashing the DH nor did I mention the Mach 1.
I like both of those mustangs!
They’re great performers and look great.
I just can’t see the price difference being a reasonable plan.
That being said, we all are car enthusiasts, so do whatever floats your boat and your wallet can afford..👍💯
Lol 😂😂😂😂 I like your reply.
The better car nobody wants. That sounds about right for the Camaro.
Obviously Edmunds isn’t pushing the Dark Horse , it’s a very good car and a lot better than given credit here. I still own a 21 Mach 1 manual and I have driven the Dark Horse manual and it’s definitely faster than the Mach 1 .
Edmunds is looking for clicks and notice how they didn’t give you their course times ? Theres a lot of haters and a lot of my car is faster people out there, trust me there are faster cars than yours and the Dark Horse but when your sitting beside a 24 Mustang at a red light I wish I could be there to see your face when they gap you 😂 that being said buy what you like and can afford because at the end of the day Mustangs / Camaros / Challengers are all fun cars to own and drive .
Noticed a lot of track videos of the DH been coming out the past week. 🤔 lol
Love mine...
The braking and the handling numbers are standout.
Interesting that it beat both the zl1 1le and the ss 1le on the Throttle House track...and the GT500!
Very nice Hot Rod Ford!
Nice Mustang but even if my dealer could get me one today at MSRP I wouldn’t give up my Camaro SS 1LE for it.
@CarStory,
Keep the SS1LE!
IMHO, it’s arguably the greatest n/a sports car in Camaro history.
Keep the ss1le for sure don’t replace it. If you get an opportunity to get a second vehicle then do so. you got a great car already
Mustangs are awesome
I honestly think we should get a Dark Horse Convertible especially since we don’t get any targa topped variant (since the 80s or early 90s)or convertible optioned Shelby or Mach 1 models @FordMotorCompany #Mustang
The compromise might be the love for a manual. The numbers/stats could be better with the automatic.
Ready for a U-Drag vs the SS 1LE
Hmmm: For $70-85k, you get 12.8 @ 4.6 0-60??
No….The $37k “LT1” Camaro was neck in neck with the Darkhorse in a straight line…
$37k….🤔
Dark horse was made for track exactly why it runs a slower quarter mile than the GT because of the Aero
Dude Camero is way heavier than a Stang
He said starting at $70,000... That is Manufacture's Sticker Price Dealerships used to add $2,500 to $5,000 for their own business, and Now they have what they call Market Adjustment or Dealership Add-ons that is at minimum trust me I know $20,000 to put in perspective in April 2023 I serviced my 2022 Roush Mustang. Inside their Showroom was a 2023 All Blacked Out Manufacture's Sticker $150,000 though, Dealership Price before entering Finance Room $260,000 for an F150 Raptor R
Ford dealership are greedy, making for horrible customer experience. 20 percent markup on a mustang is a joke. Save the money go for a corvette stingray which is quicker and much better looking car than a mustang.
@dkim3365 I lived with a 2016 Mustang Paddle Shifters, for 7 years. I would get sleepy with an Automatic. I will never buy an Automatic let alone an Electric Vehicle (EV's). It's not a fun experience, and I will never be driven either... even if EV's are or Automatic Transmission are supposedly faster.. not worth it.
I currently, drive a 2022 Roush Mustang with the 3rd Pedal Rev-Match ( No Lift) Tremec
6 Speed Manual Transmission with
Magneride Suspension
Intercooled Torsen Limited Slip Rear Differential. It is also,
Serial Number 22.0001.450R
I will never sell her. Not even if offered
$1 Million USA
In August 2022 It was the only White V8 Mustang with the 3rd Pedal 6 Speed Manual Transmission it is Beyond what I was looking, though, it was the only the Criteria I Desired, in all of California
@dkim3365
4 weeks after I Bought it I Found out the C7 Corvette was 2019 and 2020 has a
7 Speed Manual Transmission .. if there was one in Storm Trooper White, and knew about in All of California
It's 70K as tested. The Dark Horse starts at 61K (including delivery and gas guzzler tax), which is still a lot considering the base car doesn't have the handling pack.
@@MrHighlyEvolved In Los Angeles California Dealerships not likely the price.. On My 2022 Roush Mustang, which was the only one in All on California with the Criteria of it being White V8 Mustang with the 3rd Pedal
6 Speed Manual Transmission. 👦👍🏎🏁🚩
70k is too much $$$ imo.
This car cost how much? It will also look like the other 5 or 6 on my block? They are ubiquitous. You can't get around that, but for the money, no thank you. I'd rather modify a stock GT because all that really matters with these is the 0 to 60 run and the quarter mile!
The Darkhorse is a Mustang GT with suspension bits and a body kit.
Before you start bragging about it being faster than a 1le on Throttle House - the Darkhorse is on a R Compound Tire. That's a huge advantage.
And are we really going to take a review seriously from UA-camrs with a cornfield as a race track?
Funny that people believe what they want to believe.
350R = G.O.A.T.
its weighs close to 2 tons now
Misinformation… literally every different auto car source has the Dark Horse 0-60 manual in the low 4’s. The most I’ve seen was 4.1, but others go to 4.4.
The automatic is said to do less than 4 (most sources say about 3.7, but idk how realistic that is)
12.8? There's non-professional drivers who've eeked into 11.9. Hell, I've run a low 12 in mine. Wow... they should include a picture of the timeslip so we can see where they went horribly wrong. Probably spun out of the whole and granny shifted the whole way.
Don’t know why everyone is so ready to hate. It’s a great car. If it’s not the car for you, buy the car that makes your heart beat faster.
Because, as an enthusiast, the numbers are disappointing.
It’s a great car if you’re a grandma
Meh, if I wanted a mustang I'd just get a GT and take $20k back home.
Nice toy
Man give me 21 coyote with 10sp and procharger still be cheaper gapping GT500s and Redeyes easily 😂
I'll keep my race tuned 2015 GT. It's worth more now, than the $34,000 I paid for it ..
What's with the goofy steering wheel? Man the things ways slower than my old 09 C6 corvette (zr1)
Very cool car but not $70,000 + cool.
Yea, I get that the manual might be more "fun" to drive, but if you're planning on daily driving one of these in traffic, I can imagine the fun factor wearing thin, pretty quickly.
Who would plan on daily driving one of these in traffic?
I daily a gt350 in DC traffic and let me tell you...
Its fun. Every. Single. Time.
I visited a Ford dealership. The paint quality is horrendous. Peeling paint between fenders and bumper seems.

i was about to bitch about his "Smibbly bibbly" british accent, but he pronounced "Nissan Zee" correctly, so he's alright in my book.
GRRRRRRR what was the weight?
Damn i did 12.3 with a camaro ss 😂
Nah I would get a e39 m5, e90 m3, e46 m3 and maybe squeeze in an e36 m3 all for $70k if you shop around
1:40. Honestly the new m2 looks incredible. I thought it was ugly when it came out but in grew on me. Its a great mod platform. Look at prabhul devels 4 month ownership review and tell me his Car doesnt look incredible. I also love the look of the dark horse. Debating getting an m4 or m2 or dark horse?
According to their numbers the M2 is going to be faster in manual form than the Darkhorse. And it's going to be around the same price, and a lot more civilized. And I agree that Mr. Very Very Ugly should have added "in my opinion," I agree that it's cool looking and NOT ugly.
Nobody will pay sticker price and dealer markup. I will buy this car for 57,000 automatic and with recaro seats. By end of this year or beginning of next year.
0-60 in 4.6 seconds sounds a bit slow. 🤔
Who'd buy this when a C8 costs the same? C8 goes for MSRP in all over my area.
It’s a beautiful car but at almost 4000 lbs. it will never be a contender until they lop off 400-500 lbs. which I don’t think they can do until they get rid of that antiquated chassis. 🫤
It's not nearly special enough for the price. For this price, Id expect ALOT more power than the GT with a truly unique engine. This is just the new Mach 1 and even that was kinda disappointing when it was revealed.
porchett#1 nao corvett
That quarter mile time and mph is horrendous lol.
If I was buying a Mustang I would by the EcoBoost. 315 hp. and 350 lb. ft. of torque. More power and torque than a naturally aspirated Ford 302 V8. And over 30 mpg. on the highway, I'll gladly take the 2.3 for daily driving.
If a Dark Horse is 70 grand, then the Shelby will be 85- 95 grand.
Mustang has gone gothic with that front...
Slower in a straight line than a 11-14 GT… good job Ford.
“Take that Elon Musk” 😂😂😂
Sorry Alistair, I have bad knees. I need the automatic. Sorry mate.
I think the reference was for those who would be able to choose between one or the other. Of course if physical capability dictates the auto, you have to choose the auto for that.
Such a stiff clutch...
The retro dashboard looks great! NOT
Save the money get a s550
The track time is horrible I just could not pay 70,000 for this car.😊
4.6s and 12.8s @ 111mph? Lol! That's slower than a base $40K Z with 100hp less. 🤣
Yeah I went 12.7 at 114 in 2014 in a stock base manual GT. on 235 wide tires! They had to do something wrong...
It's a track car you speds.....
@@j.a.g.8689 I assume you have a point somewhere...idgaf about "its a track car" excuses. GT350r went 12.1 @ 119 2015 z28 12.3@116 ss 1le 12.3@116. Three examples of "track cars" that are WAY faster than this "track car".
@390fe451 The problem is most likely the weight.
And how many people are buying the Z in comparisons?
He totally Lied! The Darkhorse puts down much better track time than the Camaro and the Shelby!
$70k!? Regardless of performance it's not worth it.
I'M SO CONFUSED when did britain start manufacturing The Mustang?!🤦♀️🤔
I wish they had automatic,
Finally! Someone else who thinks BMW is just plain hideous!
Don’t say “for context” and then just spit out a bunch more numbers. I’m not writing them shits down. Put up a chart ffs.
Wow, even the ugly M2 with 453 hp is way faster. Given the choice, I’ll go with ugly. Save the Dark Horse for a crash at Cars and Coffee.
Underpowered and underdamped for its mission. 12.8 is embarrassing - barely beats Honda Civic Rs
Those times are horrible, it would be slaughtered in a drag race by a 22 year old corvette z06.
your comparing a corvette to a mustang? apple to oranges
All that matters is if it can beat a Challenger and Camaro in a straight line and around the track, which Throttle House has shown it definitely can do. Plus the Corvette was always meant to compete with Porsche and other foreign sports cars.
Let’s not forget the gen 1 mustang did the quarter in 12.7. Slower than a gen 1.
@cellularsouth85 What I am comparing is 22 year leap in technological advancement to still be slower than a zo6 corvette of that era that had 385-405 hp
@@spideyfanw1748 It's the same chassis as the s550. They just slapped a set of 100 treadwear tires on it, 2 throttlebodys, and put a couple tablets in there, and charged $70,000. The tires make it what it is around the track and hide that it's pushing 2 tons. Everyone who reviews it comes away slightly disappointed.
It's just another teard mustang! They can keep bringing them out. 70,000?? Really?? I'd be pissed if I was a ford owner to spend another 20 grand for just 20 hp more and a few other mods. Ud ne better off to just buy a corvette, lots better performance for the money.
Damn that shit is slow
Why they have a British dude reviewing a American muscle car? ridiculous
It’s slow.
It's a manual; the auto will be faster but less engaging.
What a joke of an msrp. I own an S550 GT premium with Performance pkg. After 2 weeks of ownership, I realized how ripped off I was buying this turd of a ride. Ford, GM, and Chyrsler are nothing more than Chinese cheap parts assembled by 3rd world Country laborers. Thanks for nothing Ford
Automatic, Seriously?! what a waste.
