The New Mustang Dark Horse - Is It Overrated?

- In today’s video we are going over the all new 2024 Mustang Dark Horse. Some notable things in the front end are a completely different bumper, High flow performance grille, chin splitter, functional heat extractors, and Dark Horse fender badge. For tires you get 305 30 ZR 19 inch tires in the front and for the rear, they're 315 30 R 19. For wheels you get 19 inch tall wheels in the front and in the rear. Those in the front there are ten and a half inches wide and in the rear they are 11 inches wide.
For this mustang it is the blue ember metallic color. Now this particular set up is also updated with the painted Stripe package.
Onto the rear end, some of the things you will notice are the taillights, massive quad tip exhaust, and the rear wing. Onto the interior, you will notice the massive screen, drift brake, premium audio system, flat bottom steering wheel, alcantara seats, etc.
Lastly for the engine, you get a 5.0 liter V8 naturally aspirated. Which allows for 500 Hp and a whole lot of torque.

What's criminal is that they say it makes 500hp but realistically only makes around 420 to the wheels. I understand crank and wheels are different but 80 hp is a ridiculous gap.
Great video. I heard from a very early review video that the lights in the air intakes are due to the contour of the front bumper. Its basically a required safety feature. Something to do with cross traffic not being able to see the opposite corner/light of the front.

This are the times we are living in. It's a TikTok generation. Were people buy products because of "Unreal Graphics" and "3D printed shift knobs". Long gone are the days of just focusing on performance (i.e. unlocked ECUs, physical buttons, no online monitoring systems, etc). Ford did it proper by letting Gen Zers design the S650.
For a Ford guy you think you would know those lines were stolen from the 67 and 68 mustang by the Camaro. Ford just took it back

Thanks Mitch! I like it, but I also like my Mach 1 too. Mach 1 is missing the Brembo brakes in the rear and the extra throttle body air intake. Only 20 extra HP than the 2021 Mach 1. The big tech screen is nice, but I'm OK with the screens on my Stang too. I think the Darkhorse is a winner.
The DH gained ~200lbs over the Mach 1. It negates the 20HP difference and you still keep the unlocked ECU and physical buttons.
even though you are not trying to perform, your shifting is great bro. that second gear at 5k rpm in 7:20 almost made you come near the van within a sec

Great car , excellent review . Regarding Hp per liter , Honda S2000 had 124hp per liter produced back in the day which holds world record as a first engine produced that much power per liter :))
The Aprilia RSA GP normally aspirated motorcycle engine makes 432 horsepower per litre.
It is a two-stroke, though.
I saw an engineer describing the little lights in the grill as poorly engineered design. It was to comply with safety regulations
The dark horse is a major win in my opinion! I can't wait to see one in person! I wonder how it will do against a C6 Z06? Both 500hp but the vette has a 427. I got to ride in a z06 along time ago and I remember it being crazy fast. Hopfully tjr dark horse feels the same! 500hp out of a 302 is completely stock is very impressive! I can't wait to see what the aftermarket can produce for it.
I'd put my money on the C6 it has a huge weight advantage

It’s not bad, sits between the gt and the Shelby 350. Those duel throttle bottles will be a tuners headache, though will make twin-turbos interesting.
What has happened to Roush, used to see them on your lots all the time and haven’t seen a stage 3 in quite some time now?
They should’ve put the dark horse emblem on the front grill and steering wheel
What's not being mentioned, many owners complain about the fit and finish!
Lights in grill I believe are for the accessory lights ford performance is working on (like the RTR lights)
The government requires those lights because the headlights are moved back from the centerline so when turning through an intersection the pin lights clue in an opposing driver that the width of the car is wide and the other-side headlights are approaching.
I Love everything about it except the hidious dash screen. I hope with all that screen you can display speedo / taco and all fluid temperature / pressure / voltage guages etc.

Check to see if that small light flashes with the turn signals. It appears as though the main turn signals are angled back enough to not be visible from the opposite side at an intersection. Just my guess.
I love Ford. My dad was a Ford man. All his cars and trucks he bought was from Ford. My first car was a 1992 Ford Probe. I can only drive automatics. Does that one comes in automatic as well. 😊

The color must be seen in person to really appreciate. It might be the best color you can get on a 5 figure priced car.

We have 2 Dark Horses and we love them . Race Red and Oxford White are the colors. I really like the color on the DH in the video oh and the painted on stripes are very Cool 😎

The lights are there so you can see the far side light from a 45degree
The side lights are due to the car not making DOT regulations to see the headlight on the opposite side from a designated angle the DOT has in it's regulation.
As a guy who owns a 2014 V6, this is NOT overrated! 👍🦾

Put the Dark Horse in a dark room (or fire it up at night with the lights on) and see what those LED grille lights look like. Probably an accent lighting.
Just a gt when you used to get something special like a gt 350 or gt 500 for that price. The revving from the key only doing it half way sums up Ford these days

The lights are so pedestrians can identify the front of the vehicle to prevent collisions

The stripes are only on the appearance package. You do not have to order the stripes.

Can't wait to see the 350s and GT SS 500s. I can only image what those cars will be. This is a GREAT alternative for Scat Pack drivers. Whoever can produce a 4 door muscle car to replace the outgoing Mopar hellcats will be king. I think ford can do it!

I test drove a 24 performance pack auto gt and it felt pretty slow. I was actually super shocked how weak the car felt

@@shannonpatrick77 It is. S550 GTs are ~100lbs than the S650 GTs. The Mach 1 HP/GT350R is ~200lbs lighter than the Dork Horse. All S550s have unlocked ECUs. S650s are nice, chill rides tho, like the Scatpacks. Except the Scatpack Widebody looks x10 better.
Still, it's just way too expensive, especially for a Mustang! But Ford designers believe the new Bronco is beautiful as well!🤣
So those two little tiny LED lights in the front grill that you don’t know what are for, they come on when you signal so a person coming from the side of the vehicle can see the vehicle at night

This is my mach 1, just not styled as well and a couple years newer. The mach1 was underrated horsepower wise, gauge cluster is way better and after options(including handling package and appearance package) im glad I paid 15k less than this.
The Mach 1 and GT350 is superior in every way compared to this overpriced, heavy turd.
Have you not seen the testing video? Dark Horse beat the Mach 1 by a huge margin on the track, it wasn't even close. Wait until people swap the tires for Michelin that gap is going to get even bigger. It's closer in a straight line but it still beat the Mach 1 by 1.5-2 car lengths and they let off at 135mph.
@@charleswhite5482 TH also said that the Mach 1 with the same tires as the DH would lap a faster speed...withoutna doubt. They also noted that the DH drover a lot heavier than the Mach 1. The 20HP difference in power is not enough to overcome the DH being heavier by ~200lbs.
@@ClickbaitMotorsports The Mach 1 they tested had Michelin Cup 2s 305 front 315 rear and a rear seat delete with an extra support tower where the rear seat use to be and it had a bigger after market wing. The playing field was already tilted in favor of the Mach 1 and it still lost. They never tested the Perreli tire on their channel before but it is well known Michelin over Perrelli in the cup 2 range.
@@charleswhite5482 No matter ifs or buts, the fact is that the actual driver of the cars said that if the tires were the same for both the Mach 1 and DH, the Mach 1 would provide a faster lap time. That's the fact. Also, the rear-seat delete accounts for ~30lbs, but even then, the DH is ~200lbs heavier than the Mach 1. Hey, at least the DH has Unreal Graphics, and the Mach 1 does not.
If I pay $80,000 for a non exotic sports car, I need it to talk to me like kit on the tv show night rider. Just flashing lights when I walk up to it ain't going to cut it. Lol

The matte black plastic under the headlights looks cheap and bad IMO. Prefer the GT front end. Also, you loose the heated/cooled power seats with the Recaros, not a fan of velour seats (had them on two dodges; reminds me of cheap cars from the past. The DH additional mechanical are good though . I never get the handling package, you’d have to tires 2-3/year
The other car that has 100hp per litre it 97-01 Integra type r, 99-00 civic si, 94-97 del sol b16, etc…
