My 2002 Toshiba Satellite 17 inch screen, 32 Bit single core, has 80GB HDD, 1GB DR1 RAM, I currently have Linux Mint OS running well, everything works fine. For me its a collectors piece.
My mom still uses one of these on a daily basis for basic tasks and internet browsing. It was bought new back in summer ´07 and it´s still running with the same hard drive. During this 17 years I had to replace the hinges, speakers, thermal paste four or five times (which is a PITA by the way) and went from 2gig to 4gig, although the chipset can´t handle more than 3gb.
A fine project!👍👍 That laptop can handle a maximum of 4 GB., of ddr2 ram., cleaning the keyboard thoroughly may fix it and the laptop will probably work better with a Linux OS., installed, Bohdi Linux and Puppy Linux are worth trying as are LMDE 6 and LM., mate version.
I used to think 80s "laptops" or "luggables" were a laugh when I seen them. Those things would break your legs. Yet here we are looking back in 2000s laptops in the same way while we have ultra thin light weight laptops like the Windows Surface line or Apple laptops.
I have a Satellite A205 that a neighbor gave me. It had Vista Home , a 80GB HDD , 1 GB RAM and it's a 15.4" display. I upgraded it to 3GB RAM and Widows 7 Ultimate on a 160 GB HDD. The battery still holds a charge. It also has a space to add a second SATA HDD connector. So far it's only good to watch movies and play Solitaire. I want to add another 1 GB RAM to see if that helps. You could try downloading VLC for your media. Good luck with Win 10.
I would be tempted to wait for any background tasks, updates etc to finish before running anything else, this may have led to your disappointment with the laptop's performance. I had a similar experience recently and found that Windows update was running in the background and using most of the power. I use Linux Mint on both my old laptops, a Dell Latitude with an i5-2520M and a Macbook Pro (2011) with an i5-2453M, both running SSds and 16GB of ram, lovely and smooth, may be worth a try if you fancy a tinker.
I actually have a massive & very heavy Toshiba Satellite from 2006/2007 laying around somewhere, suffice to say this laptop looks like it's from a very similar era to that one AND it suffers from the same issue my one has - the line down the screen. My one has loads of them, in fact another one appeared a while after I acquired it second hand. I remember one day another line kept flashing on the screen, like on/off then eventually it was there permanently. I actually keep that main screen disabled on it to prevent it getting any worse but it does seem these Toshiba laptops from that era had an issue with the screens developing lines through them BUT performance wise I've found it to be a pretty good laptop for Windows XP.
hmmm I have a toshiba sat myself but a lil newer... not by much i think. all still og parts minus teh drive I threw a ssd in it. its running fydeOS atm. great vid.
I have two P200's... Neither is exactly like this one -- wish they were since yours has HDMI and mine don't. I have the double ExpressCard slots instead, and only 4 USB ports, not 6. One of my P200 does have the extra SATA connector for the second HDD bay, but the other is bare, like yours. I used the P200 (with the extra drive) on Vista for 9 yrs (2007-2016), completely skipping Windows 7, 8, and 8.1... I only replaced it in 2016 because streaming was becoming a problem with the limited RAM I could use in a 32-bit system. Yes mine was the older Core Duo, not the Core2 Duo like yours, which is 64-bit. I had replaced that one with another Toshiba, a 2 in 1, which itself is coming up on 9 years of excellent service! Cheers from Canada! ;-] BTW, your version of the P200 cannot be from 2005 because Vista wasn't out until 2007, and your machine came with that OS.
Don't laugh! My main laptop is a😱 Toshiba Satellite P875 - S7200. I can still upgrade the CPU, add an additional HDD / SSD, its runs Win 10 just fine, has a 1080p screen, and Harmon / Kardon speakers! Its a big laptop, but its worth using!
I have a similar Toshiba Tecra A8 from 2008 with a T7200 CPU 2GHz C2D and 4GB RAM with Win7. It's fine and is the PC I use every day. Most likely your laptop has a socketed CPU so drop in a T7200 and update to 4GB RAM and it will be fine. You can use Win7 even today and it works well. Just because it's no longer supported and no longer getting updates does not mean it's only good for the bin. I never installed any updates anyway.... this is exactly what Microsoft wants so it breaks the PC and you have to upgrade to something newer. I have another Toshiba Z30T-C (I7-6700U, 1TB m.2 SATA SSD and 16GB RAM) running Win7, from off to desktop boot-up is 4 seconds. You don't need the latest thing, just need to use your brain a bit. Start by putting on SimpleWall and blocking everything that doesn't need access to internet. You'd be very surprised to see just how many programs call home....
this laptop is 95 watts but lenovo claims my g505s is 65w but now using a 135w psu and it actually tops out at 120 watts whilst charging the battery and full cpu and gpu usage
Interesting laptop I now use a tuf gaming A17 laptop but its speakers suck I use creative t40 series ii but many little amazon speakers prob sound better.
Windows 10 would be/is a dog on that machine, as you can see. Keep the SSD and install Linux Mint Cinnamon, try to upgrade the WiFi card if you can (hopefully adding Bluetooth), And add the H264ify extension; it will help on UA-cam. I have a Toshiba Satellite C655D with the above mods 😀.
I've got a Satellite P105 which is a monster like this, but unfortunately it uses a weird square power connector I haven't been able to source anywhere :(
*Correction, laptop appears to be from 2007, as mentioned in comments, thanks for letting me know. (BIOS shows a date of 2005)
these kind of videos are so therapeutic
Ah those were the days when you could change items without have to completely dismantle the whole PC like now.
6:02 - I'm familiar with beep codes, but using Morse code for conveying error states is a rather novel approach
@@Max_Mustermann haha 😂
😂😂😂😂 it's just F2/F5/F6 key got stuck, I guess. and since it does not do anything, BIOS setup beeps

Solid ! Good times, thanks for sharing, congrats from Brazil !
I have two P400 laptops. 1st gen i5's with 512MB NVidia and two SSD places. HUGE, like that one is. I still have them and they work perfectly.

Probably the F5 or F6 key that was stuck since those were listed as the 'change values' keys by the bios.
Yep but it automatically ended up in BIOS setup after CMOS error, seems like F2 is also stuck. Maybe both of them
OMG 😂 so many ports and features, 3.5 kg 😱
Just Keep The Drive Is Time Capsule
ii still hve the toshiba qosmio x500...with the big harman kardon speakers...still sounds the best
CPU Is Strugle During Playback UA-cam
Maybe Upgrading The CPU Help Better To Play UA-cam
So good.

You could use it for self defence lol. Game Bar is the xbox overlay you get when you press WIN+G
I mean, not really, this is a pretty typical size and configuration for a 17" 16:10 laptop of the vintage...
This is actually when they started "thinning out" after the Pentium 4 desktop chip powered units of a couple years earlier

And In Bios Enable USB keyboard To Use USB Keyboard In Windows
I watch all this stuff loading slow in it's like you'll don't remember modems. That was daily life for slashdot and segfault, yo.
Interesting laptop I now use a tuf gaming A17 laptop but its speakers suck I use creative t40 series ii but many little amazon speakers prob sound better.
I had a Dell Inspiron 1721 it was a unit.
They do not make laptop like this use to ! Made to last ! Should have kept my old one !
You Can Get Mobile Core 2 Duo Or Quad For Dirt Cheap
love that laptop monster bro
Yeah this is definitely not from 2005. This is a 2007 or 2008 model. It has the vista logo on the keyboard and a sata hard drive.

Guess Whats Even Bigger bet You Never even Heard The Panasonic Toughbook is the Twice as Size Super Work Station Laptop. Which is Available on EBAY
I have both, a Toughbook CF52 from '07 at work, which I use everyday and a Satellite P200. The Toshiba is bigger and way heavier than the Toughbook.
My uncle had one of these till 2022
I have that laptop trying to see if i can solder a second sata port to install a second ssd
Let me know how it goes
Windows has too much garbage running in the background... Poor pc.....
