How does this not effect the temper?
What kind of solder is that
Wow he is amazing master!❤
Fantastic MOOOOOORE. Happy Trails
What about the temper after you heat it up ?
Its fucked up
@@elcazador7619Nah. Not unless you screw up. It isn't getting that hot.
I like to furnace braze my guards in the forge , using copper or bronze filler ,,,,, the brazing metal (and its bond) will survive heat treat , and the result is both strong and good looking after "cleanup"
New to knife making can u recommend a step by step instructional on soldering and soldering a bolster onto a blade something a bit more for the greenhorn
Check out Walter Sorrell's channel. He has a ton of great guides on knife making: ua-cam.com/users/WalterSorrellsBladesfeatured
This dude is awesome man. Thank for the video!
I love these videos! Any chance y’all could make some videos of him making a folder?
A good idea! I'll add that to my list of potential videos. -Jake
Once I’ve heard about a Smith Wesson’s blade smith that did this with the knibes he made, ti avoid dirt and liquids deposition in the gap between blade and gard. Amazing technique
What was in the white bottle and what was the pink stuff
That sure is a LOT of solder left on the bolsters... but I like the knife
What type of solder does he use?
would help if a lot of these vids had verbal instruction with it, cause i wanna know after he soldered the guard, what that jar of pink stuff he then went to apply afterwards. Im trying to learn and don't already know what everything is. There ARE newbies that watch these vids too.
Hi Scotty, the jar of pink stuff is flux. Flux aids in soldering and desoldering processes by removing oxide films which form on the surface of metals being soldered. It increases the wetting ability of the solder, causing it to flow more uniformly over surfaces without balling-up (dewetting).
These videos are more just a tour of Bob's shop, to show his equipment and process rather than instructional videos. Check out Walter Sorrell's UA-cam channel for instructional videos: www.youtube.com/@WalterSorrellsBlades
Молодец
There is nothing wrong with a soldered guard, but if you are going to do a soldered guard DO IT ON THE HANDLE SIDE
Would you do it with the blade inverted? (Tip facing down) or upright? I saw someone say to solder with the blade upright and solder from the bottom of the guard so it wicks up neatly
Or you could file the slot correctly and have shoulders on the tang so this is unnecessary.
Moisture will still get in no matter how tight the fit, hence the solder.
remind me to never buy a knife made by that hack. i NEVER use solder, MY joints all fit
Hack? A quick use of the Google shows Bob Dozier is not hack by long shot. So you make a tight fit. You think he doesn't also? Keyboard commando on though righteous dude of smithing.
I've worked with Bob he is no hack he makes quality knifes
How the heck do you attach the bolster to the blade?
Bobs the man. Educate yourself about some of the pioneers of modern knife making before you comment on this.

Ummm wtf. Who solders a guard on. Why the hell isn't the slot filed correctly to fit snug. If you got gaps throw that shit away and make a guard that fits.
