I believe the same as you on this regard. I think Konahkrik mask was designed during the period Miraak turned against the dragon priests and dragons. More so likely I think the mask was formed after Alduin was banished( it might be before too. Im not sure if Alduin was around when Miraak turned against him, cause if he was then it would make sense that Alduin would of fought Miraak) We know even though it is not directly confirmed that the 3 Solstheim priests turned against the dragons too and served Miraak( their masks is shaped after Miraak's ) so I assume Vahlok was the leader( as well as the priest serving Alduin) of the priests and he was chosen to wear the mask as he was strongest of the priests. So when he defeated Miraak he was appointed ruler of Solstheim and probably maintained leadership of dragon cult. Nahkrin probably took over his servitude to Alduin as we know and it is confirmed Nahkrin is the priest serving Alduin. So if Vahlok wasn't the leader of the cult and Nahkrin was back then, then I probably assume they chose on power( even though I would think leadership is associated with the strongest). Some say Miraak was the leader of the cult before he turned which made Vahlok leader. But to come to my conclusion I agree with you on the mask and I believe the mask of Konahkrik was a mask made in that krisis time and the title was given to the strongest priest to lead the cult and defeat Miraak. It would make sense cuz Miraak had the other 3 priests in Solstheim to fight with him which probably made the creation of the mask( cause if those 3 didn't support Miraak then how is he stronger than 11 dragon priests?)
The dragon priests could have functioned like jarls with each priest ruling over a "hold". Labyrinthian was their meeting place and Konahrik could have been the "high king" ruling over the other priests.

there is a mod called konahrik accountrements. You can loot dragon priest ashes and their cursed clothing. You then can create scrolls of abjuration at a tanning station. You can then cleanse the clothing by putting one piece on the ground and firing the scroll at i then you get to wear it
I still hold that collecting the masks is one of the best parts of skyrim. The very first time you find a mask, it seems like a cool item from a uniwue boss. But the you find another. And another. Now there's a mystery behind them. Surely a set of such unique items has gotta have a purpose, right? Unraveling that mystery to claim khonariik, one of the most powerful items in the game, was and still is one of the most rewarding experiences Ive had in gaming
@@loosetube5417 My reason for my most reccent character was them finding the wooden mask after defeating alduin. She was craving another goal to pursue after conquering the world eater, and the mystery of this mask and the place it sent her to was exactly what she needed
@@loosetube5417 If you’re on PC get the Konahrik’s Accoutrements mod. I’m not sure if it’s available on consoles. It adds a dungeon with a dragon forge, used to craft dragon priest armour, along with Konahrik’s robes, boots and gloves, once you’ve unlocked the mask. With the mod, each dragon priest drops their robes upon death, which must be purified by lifting their curses with scrolls of abjuration, before you can wear them. Each set is enchanted with unique effects like the corresponding mask and are well designed. In term of RP reasons to get the masks, I like a power and knowledge hungry Hermaeus Mora worshiping mage/scholar, out to collect the greatest artefacts to bend the world around them. Using Merunes Razor or the Skeleton Key to become Dragonborn much like Mankar Camoran did in Oblivion. I’d recommend the Wintersun Faiths mod for such a build.
Volsung's mask is the kind an explorer or adventurer would desire. Maybe he was an adventurer, like the player character, before he became a dragon priest?
Here's how Volsung's mask makes sense: it involves breathing. Waterbreathing involves air and, well, *breathing,* Carrying things requires breathing heavier, and haggling requires breathing as well. He might have been called Volsung because of the location he chose for his coffin, as it lies atop a mountain *outside* of the stronghold itself. Additionally, Waterbreathing enchantments likely also assists in the oxygen starvation from high altitudes.
9 divines 1 of them banned because of the thalmor 9 dragon priest masks in Skyrim 1 of them sealed... I don't really have much to say I just thought that was a little funny to think about

@@loganwoods1590 That sounds good, my theory is that someone dawns the mask when the dragons need a general to lead an army. or maybe it was made for the dragonborn.
Oh god, the Dragon Priests are the one enemy type I'd love to have the ability to transform into. Seriously who wouldn't want to be a dragon priest lich?
Right! I get that vampires are cool but can you imagine if Dawnguard was a fight between a new generation of dragon cultists and the Vigilants? That would have been LIT. Choosing to be a holy warrior fighting the heretical cult or the Last Dragonborn and first of the new Dragon Priests able to ascend or something!!
My headcanon is that there's a dragon priest whose name was Wooden Mask. It has some completely different meaning in the Dragon language and it's just sheer coincidence that it's written the same as wooden mask in English.
Think it would've been cool if they had the dragon priests lead armies of draugr to attack cities and settlements, so alduin had ground troops as well as dragons
@DEACON STRUKT Mostly in another dimension. Would have liked the foreshadowing and after killing all the Dragon Priests playing a bigger role at the end of the main game. Still optional, but making a difference. Ya know?
There's a mod that does exactly that: It's called "The New Dragon Cult", and adds neo-dragon cultists to most of the dragon burial mounds throughout Skyrim. It's not much; no quests, or unique dialogue or anything, but it's one of those things that adds some genuine weight to the Dragon Crisis beyond a few random dragon attacks.
Its honestly one of the best side quests to place on your self, by the time my character had collected all the masks he was level 30 something. Its a great journey.
This is going to sound pretty unbelievable but I was just checking to see if there was a dragon priest lord video after fighting hevnoraak like an hour ago and couldn’t find anything. You guys really are making a collection to rival the arcanaeum.
Theres a mod to make them stronger and have new one unique ability, staff, textures for each one of them and new spells, I forgot its name though, it was dragon priest enhanced or something along that line.
Weird opinion: Vahlok shouldn't have been a Dragon Priest that you fight. From everything we know of him, he was a brave and good man. I think it would have been cooler to speak with him on how to beat Miraak and then he allows you to take his Mask willingly, finally being laid to rest and turning his back on the Dragon Cult, heading to Sovngarde
Why did Vahlok attack the Last Dragonborn if he was not as evil as the other priests? Well, it's likely that the Dragonborn made his way through his tomb using the Thu'um, so Vahlok may have thought TLD was Miraak, since there were no other Dragonborns at the time of his entombment.
I wish there was more things about the dragons priest / the cult. Remember, at the first fight with Alduin, he actually said that we could've joined him, just imagine how cool it could be, restoring that cult, having new quest that actually involved some dragon priest or even becoming one, rebuilding there cities or even building a new one, having your own tomb, etc. Honnestly it could've be something really cool because the actual main quest is cool but boring at the same time, it isn't really long and the final fight is depressing, you are supposed to kill the most powerful dragon but it actually feels like killing a regular dragon with one additional power of his and not having a good reward after that
Crazy theory, but could have Volsung be a pirate? Underwater breathing in case your ship gets sunk, fortify carry weight for more loot, fortify speech to fence loot for a price. Plus his name translated to "horrific air" which is something a pirate would have to worry about. It could also be a sort of nickname as a pirate with a notably fast ship.
Miraak and Konahriik's masks are both gold and have a unique feature. Miraak with his tentacles, Konahriik with their tusks. What if Konahriik was for a dragonborn? Whether that be one from the era of dragon rule, or the current era
Guys, I loved the video! And it's actually cool your mention on the backstory for Voslung's mask, because thats the only armor piece I could find to use with the ancient falmer set (I don't use mods, please don't judge me). Anyway, I think they're all amazing, but some could be a little bit better, like Rahgot could combine some skill with the increase stamina points. Also, could you please bring a video about the whole lore within Paarthurnax, and the Blades, kill him or not, these kind of stuff? I tried to create a build that would do it, but I couldn't see why. I mean, you can't just kill him, right? Haha Thanks guys, you're all the best!!!
I personally believe that Volsung was a seafaring trader with water breathing, increased carry weight, and speech on his mask it makes sense. He had to have been very rich and influential to get the attention of the dragon cult.
You know, this video got me thinking. A dragon priest had the staff of Magnus despite being locked away AND the staff appearing throughout history multiple times before he was awoken. Does this mean that their are multiple staves/ Aedric artifacts that function the same or similar? Or do these relics act similar to Elder Scrolls and appear at a time and place that they are needed?
I appreciate how you worked the ESO priests in here. I started playing it a couple months ago and was wondering how they fit in. Dragon priests are perhaps my favorite end-game content in skyrim. I remember encountering my first one in the college of winterhold questline and wondering "what is that thing?", but figuring it was just a unique boss. Then I started to stumble on others, wondering what the connection was, before finding the wooden mask. And man, was I excited when I discovered that it was a treasure-hunt to find them all. These bosses are mysterious, terrifying, revealing to someone like me slowly unraveling the lore during their first few playthroughs, and I love them because of it. I highly recommend getting a housing mod that gives you a special place to display the masks, so you can better keep track of the collection and have easy access to them without them taking up inventory weight.
Personally, I’ve noticed Mirrak’s mask looks like a Seeker, and is appropriate considering his activities; while the other three Solstheim Priests resemble Lurkers, which is also appropriate considering how they “lurk” in their tombs.
GP Technologies Mangalore Might also be appropriate. As the alleged mightiest Dragon Priest, would make sense that his mask resemble the mightiest beast in Skyrim
I have this whole theory where the named Dragon Priests in Skyrim Vanilla are the highest-ranking members of the cult, forming a governing body called the High Dragon Council. The DP's in the Dragonborn DLC on Solstheim are Legendary Dragons, a rank just below the High Dragons (including Miraak). All the other priests in the game, the ones without names, are mid to low-tier members, ranked as Revered, Elder or Younger Dragons. I also think that, much like the Sith, once you joined the Dragon Cult, you took on a new name, a name from the dragon language.
The court wizards serve many purposes, 1st is to advice the Jarl on matters of a magical nature, 2nd is to scry the area for magical anomalies & 3rd is to make the peepee & poopoo of the citizens of their respective holds vanish. That's why non-citizens like bandits have to use buckets.
I wanna see some battles in Skyrim like helms deep in LOTR or just that kind of feel. And I wanna feel like the dang Dragonborn, I wanna be able to do stuff that Miraak does. Y’all know what I mean?

@@the_dropbear4392 I agree...war was not the right word I mean more...contest or sport. the dragons demanded powerful followers and dragons are creatures of pride so less actual war and more battles for pride and skill. example being dragon A and B think there select pet priest is better they could perhaps have some tradition for this...which would explain what if any merit was used when appointing a priest. but again as for outright dissent among the dragon ranks? perhaps after the world eater was sent into the time void...but before? no way. :3

I can't help but think of the parallels between the Dragon Priest in the Dragon Cult. There and the Nasgul of Lord of the Rings. How both were turned and bound.
It would have been helpful if you inserted the dragon priests' names to the script a few more times in place of saying he or his so often. It's had to tell them apart so it gets somewhat confusing when you move to the next one.

Another interesting video fudge, not really lore but you guys could further this topic in another video by describing these priests locations and how best to fight them.
Forgive me if this has come up before, but there may be another reason for the nine unique Dragon Priests. Supposedly, the development of Skyrim was heavily influenced by the Lord of the Rings movies, and from said franchise and the stories it was built from, there is a possible source. The Nazgul, also known as the Ringwraiths, Ring-wraiths, Black Riders, Dark Riders, the Nine Riders, or simply the Nine were once nine men, "great kings of men" who were tempted with power by Sauron. They became undead servants, skilled in sorcery and weaponry to become his most feared warriors. Now in Skyrim, we have the nine Dragon Priests, who ruled over the various parts of Skyrim, gaining much knowledge and power from the dragons, but at the cost of becoming undead. Coincidence? Just thought I would bring it up, sorry if someone has covered it before, but if not, tell me what you think.

I just thought it’d be great since those games rarely get the recognition they deserve and they both seem like an interesting mini time period. But you’ll decide on that and if you read this comment, thanks! 👍🏽
I’m really late to this but I’ve always (head cannon) seen the dragon priests as a snow elf cult. Snow elves worship Auriel/akatosh who presents himself as a dragon. Shouting is a type of ‘tonal magic’ much like that of the Dwemer/snow elves, using sound to rearrange, create or destroy reality as they see fit. It would explain why the Nords had such a vendetta against them beyond the betrayal at sarthal. Probably not but fun for thought.
I remember hearing a fan theory somewhere that the Last Dragonborn (you) was the one destined to fulfill the role of Konarhiik (however you spell it). The idea was that the only person who could slay the other 8 priests was fit to be Warlord
I was talking to a friend of mine last night and said how if Elder Scrolls 6 room place in High Rock you could explore the ruins of the dragon priest buried there.
Redguards,Nords,Bretons and imperials are the magical endeavors of Man like races in Nirn, with Redguards and Bretons being probably the first to adopt the use of magic like they're counter parts Nords did with the Thum, Specially since redguards were at war with the sinestrial elves in Yokuda for eras. Can't wait for TES 6 storyline of redguards to come
I just thought of my own Konahrik theory (which someone else has probably thought of before, but not that I've ever heard). Bromjunaar Sanctuary, where you find Konahrik, is supposed to be the ancient Dragon Cult capital, right? As said in the video, it's where the Dragon Priests would go to settle disputes and discuss laws and all that. Given that Konahrik translates to Warlord, and you need all 8 Dragon Priest Masks in order to access it, what if there was no one priest that wore Konahrik? What if Konahrik, being arguably the most powerful - and definitely most lavish - of the masks in Skyrim, was something to be bestowed upon a Dragon Priest in a time of desperation, so that one Dragon Priest can lead the entirety of the Dragon Cult to overcome the issue. Not sure if I'm doing a good job of explaining it, but think of the position of Dictator within Ancient Rome, for example. In Wartime and such, Rome would appoint one of its two Consuls as Dictator, giving them sole authority to rule so that they can focus on overcoming Rome's adversary without interference and all that.
I ALWAYS wished they would've given us a Dragon Priest in the Soul Cairn, maybe it could've been riding the zombified remains of its old Dragon Master. I didn't even want it necessarily to be an enemy, just felt it would've given more impact to an already impactful part of the game. (If there IS one in the Soul Cairn and I've missed it somehow, ill be so ashamed of myself, after how much skyrim I've played)

It would have been awesome to see labyrinthian when it was still populated and maybe being able to talk to the people who would one day be the draugr we slay daily.
Definitely an interesting idea would be curious to see if it gets put into practice
@@ghostwarrior3878 to be honest most of these will probably be used for eso just throue different methods. thats why i think they never did all of skyrim and only did one third of it. laberithian would make a great raid. the etheriam forge would be a great story location (espeshaly since the ending of it will be its distruction) and so on. skyrim had a lot more legendary locations of old then the other games and thay knew this.
Oh, you should've seen my first time finding it. It was totally random and I had no idea wtf was going on, cuz I'd decided to not focus on the story and instead focus on finding easter eggs that playthrough. U'd have to wear a dragon preist mask with master neloth robes or mirraak's robes
there is a mod called konahrik accountrements.

Wonder if he turned to priesthood after taking an arrow in knee?
@@SonGara I know this is a joke, but priests usually can't marry. So most likely not
Here's how Volsung's mask makes sense: it involves breathing.
I think that he was a sea merchant. The prices and carry weight for the selling and carrying of good and the waterbreating for safety on the waters

They should have played a bigger role in the game with the return of Dragons. New living Dragon Cults popping up all over and attacking all sides.
Kind of like the Dragonborn DLC
@DEACON STRUKT Mostly in another dimension. Would have liked the foreshadowing and after killing all the Dragon Priests playing a bigger role at the end of the main game. Still optional, but making a difference. Ya know?
There's a mod that does exactly that:
It's called "The New Dragon Cult", and adds neo-dragon cultists to most of the dragon burial mounds throughout Skyrim. It's not much; no quests, or unique dialogue or anything, but it's one of those things that adds some genuine weight to the Dragon Crisis beyond a few random dragon attacks.
I started playing Skyrim again yesterday, and I hope I can find every location on the huge map.
Its honestly one of the best side quests to place on your self, by the time my character had collected all the masks he was level 30 something. Its a great journey.

I agree
Why did Vahlok attack the Last Dragonborn if he was not as evil as the other priests? Well, it's likely that the Dragonborn made his way through his tomb using the Thu'um, so Vahlok may have thought TLD was Miraak, since there were no other Dragonborns at the time of his entombment.
Because you break your way into his tomb, killing his guards and stealing his stuff. Plus he's just woke up and is grumpy
Because he was not in full control of himself he was still a lich and thus was just a mindless lich or that's what I think not sure if right
Dragon priests are absolute units...
Pain in the everloving backsides, that's what they are.

Honnestly it could've be something really cool because the actual main quest is cool but boring at the same time, it isn't really long and the final fight is depressing, you are supposed to kill the most powerful dragon but it actually feels like killing a regular dragon with one additional power of his and not having a good reward after that
"They returned to Skyrim with renewed Vigge."
You know, I always wondered what happened to that Skingrad mage...
Dragon priests are some of my favorite enemies in skyrim! Thanks Fudgemuppet. Your upload frequency is borderline psychotic and i love it
Crazy theory, but could have Volsung be a pirate? Underwater breathing in case your ship gets sunk, fortify carry weight for more loot, fortify speech to fence loot for a price. Plus his name translated to "horrific air" which is something a pirate would have to worry about. It could also be a sort of nickname as a pirate with a notably fast ship.
“He was once one of them,” *ancient Nordic chanting* “a dragon priest”
“But he didn’t worship the dragons...
He devoured them”
Miraak and Konahriik's masks are both gold and have a unique feature.
Haha
Thanks guys, you're all the best!!!
Yes! Thank you. Didn't have time to write this in dovahzul so you get English. Great video as always.
I personally believe that Volsung was a seafaring trader with water breathing, increased carry weight, and speech on his mask it makes sense. He had to have been very rich and influential to get the attention of the dragon cult.
A thoughts occurred: is a priest of Akatosh technically a “Dragon Priest”?
Youve got a point.
Old comment but artifacts kinda move a lot
Daedric artifacts usually stay in oblivion until daedric prince's send them down when it's needed
So what if konariik mammoth??
GP Technologies Mangalore Might also be appropriate. As the alleged mightiest Dragon Priest, would make sense that his mask resemble the mightiest beast in Skyrim
The First Dragon Priest I found was Krosis and from then on I found them so fascinating
I can't wait to see the lore about how most people don't have toilets in there homes 😏

Were nine rings given to the race of men?
It would have been helpful if you inserted the dragon priests' names to the script a few more times in place of saying he or his so often. It's had to tell them apart so it gets somewhat confusing when you move to the next one.

Long time fan fudgemuppet but are you guys ever planning to do lore videos specifically on the first two elder scrolls games? I’m really late to this but I’ve always (head cannon) seen the dragon priests as a snow elf cult. Snow elves worship Auriel/akatosh who presents himself as a dragon. Shouting is a type of ‘tonal magic’ much like that of the Dwemer/snow elves, using sound to rearrange, create or destroy reality as they see fit. It would explain why the Nords had such a vendetta against them beyond the betrayal at sarthal.
Probably not but fun for thought.
I feel like the wooden mask is the most powerful due to being able to time travel with it. (Not from a gameplay perspective of course)
Its sayed that its akatosh artifact
I think it would have been really fun if I. Skyrim you could fight the remains of the dragon cult similar to morrowind and the sixth house cult
I remember hearing a fan theory somewhere that the Last Dragonborn (you) was the one destined to fulfill the role of Konarhiik (however you spell it). The idea was that the only person who could slay the other 8 priests was fit to be Warlord
The dragons gave the masks to their preists, they wouldn't have made a mask 1000s of years ago to give to someone who hunts them in the future

What I want to know is why all the Dragon Priests have the same big treasure chest.
I was talking to a friend of mine last night and said how if Elder Scrolls 6 room place in High Rock you could explore the ruins of the dragon priest buried there.
So eight priests, nine holds (or regions) with one above all... sounds familiar but that’s what I thought
I’ve rewatched this video more times than is healthy
I ALWAYS wished they would've given us a Dragon Priest in the Soul Cairn, maybe it could've been riding the zombified remains of its old Dragon Master. I didn't even want it necessarily to be an enemy, just felt it would've given more impact to an already impactful part of the game. (If there IS one in the Soul Cairn and I've missed it somehow, ill be so ashamed of myself, after how much skyrim I've played)
I'm curious... how much of Tamriel did the dragons actually control? You don't hear much lore at all from outside of Skyrim.
