My only complaint with KOF 2002, is that you only get 15 seconds to pick THREE CHARACTERS. Like at this point were the KOF fans supposed to know 90% of the roster? It's just crazy that they flash you with like 50 characters and you only get 5 seconds to pick one at a time.
“Like at this point were the KOF fans supposed to know 90% of the roster?” Uh yeah lol?? No new characters were introduced in this game and a majority of the roster are KOF mainstays anyways
@@gaupau That alone is very impressive in itself. The Neo Geo didn't start showing its age until around 1998/1999. This is a system that released in 1990. I play KOF98 and SvC Chaos on my consolized MVS and it's a blast!
I had the Sega Dreamcast version of KOF2002 and now have the PC port for Linux. Both look and play very much like the arcade. The PS2 release is good, took minor liberties with anti-aliasing (smoothing the edges of graphics). To this day I still play KOF2002 on Linux.
@Zontar82 Yea I heard that they actually released the game prematurely due to deadline pressures or something like that, but the graphics; the amount of detail on the character sprites is probably unprecedented, literally, even to games that are praised on their graphics, like Guitly Gear, Blaz-Blue, Act Cadenza (never played melty blood), but NONE of them really deserve more graphical acclaim than Daraku IMO. It all comes down to commercial exposure. I think that half explains it
as a Street Fighter player... is KOF "deep" enough? i mean i see there are overheads, low hits, super attacks and a special for each character but is there something like focus attack from street fighter 4 or a parry system or something like that? i really want to learn and play KOF but as a newbie i don't see what makes KOF so special, even though i am really interested in the series. thanks in advance for your answers
There’s nothing special about these games bro (well at least early ones) … no parry systems nothing … i never understood the hype either and keep in mind this came out in 2002 … we were getting games like street fighter 3rd strike in 1999
It's deep, just not for the same reasons SF is. Guard cancels are probably the closest things you get to parries and focus. They work similarly as defensive options that can lead into a big punish By far the biggest factor is team composition. In KOF, you have to pick at least 3 characters, and this goes a long way into turning it into an experience with lots of depth. There's also a mechanic where your health bar heals more the faster you complete rounds, which has more strategy than you might think. It ain't Street Fighter though. It's far more rushdown oriented, older entries are notorious for having multiple different characters which will destroy everyone else in the entire game, thus earning them tournament bans, you generally don't play footsies that much, and least important, but somewhat relevant, is the fact that it's 4 buttons instead of 6. So I'd say KOF is full of depth, and it's absolutely worth checking out if you're getting bored of traditional SF.
Another one of my personal favourites, also the most played on a home system. I used Andy, Leona and Benimaru the most iirc. Good times. And the HDSMs are awesome!
@Zontar82 I've got all of them, and I think although its one of the best 2D fighter series out there, they sorta milked the franchise by releasing a new one every year, and not much difference between any of them. A couple of new characters and some new stages, but they re-use the same old sprites. Man I remember introducing my mates to these games though, we used to rinse it hardcore! I always loved the attention to detail in KOF, only surpassed by SFIII and Daraku Tenshi etc.
Everyone says its hard to defeat Rugal, hes a sucker for jumping(backwards that is) then he usually does hes genocide cutter combo just roll through it until you've reached hes backside, then its combo time(I use kyo he has an awesome juggle combo or kim and crystal combo the crap out of rugal).
Darkstalkers vs The King Of Fighters, Morrigan vs Kyo, Felicia vs Iori, Lilith vs Shingo, Demitri vs Saysiu, Hsien-Ko vs K', Mei Ling vs Kula, Pyron vs Rugal.
pensar que yo lo jugaba en un lugar que se llamaba los vídeos del gordo la ficha salía 25 centavos siempre había retadores se vivía jugando vs era por el prestigio, cómo se cuidaban esas fichas también cuando jugabas contra la máquina
Just got this for ps2. Cant do special moves! :(. Wont register. Actually have the same problem on Emulators for the arcade version....seems like i am the only one in the world with this problem. No problem in other KOF games :(
I remember there was this older version where 1 kick equaled half of your Hp. And Rugal also has this one attack where he constantly throws balls fo death at you, initially killing you.
I think this is the best KOF game. One of the best fighting games ever. Top 5 definitely.
My favorite is 2002 unlimited match
I agree 100%!2002 and 98:Ultimate Match are my favorites.
KOF2002 is my all time fave KOF games, with KOF98 coming in a close 2nd.
@@sladejosephwilson2300 for me KOF 2002 is far better than Blazblue Cross Tag Battle.
I disagree, this is far from being the best kof game

If you truly know your mains then It isnt a problem
You had to choose 3 roulettes
you only had 15 seconds because this was an arcade game, but yeah they could've added more time in the other versions xd but anyways, one get used ^×^
“Like at this point were the KOF fans supposed to know 90% of the roster?”

I think this was my first ever Arcade game :')
Good memories, can't wait any longer for KoFXIV!!!
This is such a HUGE improvement from 2001, just compare the backgrounds between 2001 and 2002, it's like night and day!
@Vegeta Super Saiyan Elite keep in mind these games were still releasing on the neo geo hardware from 1990
@Vegeta Super Saiyan Elite even compared to Guilty Gear X and XX.

First Video Game i ever played,Memories at the Arcade.
i know its something small, but i miss seeing your team members cheering you on in the background like they did in the earlier versions of kof
I agree with you
Watching Terry in this makes me realize how faithful Sakurai was to hit moveset
Wow! the real time lighting effects when the time of day changes.
Tiempos Que nunca volveran the king of figters 2002 my best game

Kof 2002 is a masterpiece in mexico
A good KOF game and way better then 2001 and 2003.

from mxico stage we can see rock near and talking with king from background
Good thing KOF 2002 improved a lot compared to KOF 14.
My favorite one out of all of them!!!
I'm always a sucker in cancel combos but overall it's one of the best fighting games out there, hack versions are really dope too
how many times rugal has to explode for him to stay dead?
His favorite hobby is called resurrection duh
He must be best buddies with Wild Dog because they both do the same thing!
I don’t wanna be a buzzkill but rugal actually died in KOF 95 haha. The games after he’s appeared in are dream matches.
Wow my childhood :')

This is my favortie KOF. The Gameplay is awesome and so many characters to choose from. The only negative point are the stages.
