      Thanks brother John! Heidi really nailed it...I'd say she had the harder job on this one for sure. Fast movers are hard to film. Everything worked in our favor man...one of those in the zone flights. I was on, Heidi was on, and the wx and lighting were perfect! The Avanti is amazing. It has made me like the genre more and more. I've NEVER had a EDF that got picked to go to the field as much as this one does. I'm a propeller head at heart you know...guess there's a little jet jock in my veins now too.

    Thanks for the timely video. I just bought an Avanti last week. It's together, but I haven't done any mixes yet--only triple rates and expo. I'm waiting on a 3D-printed nose gear brace.
    Another club member, a guy who''s flown turbines and EDFs for years, absolutely loves this airplane. He's got more than 150 flights on his 12-blade version (mine's the 9-blade) and he'll maiden mine for me because it's my first EDF.
    I've been flying a lot of years, but always props and gliders. I've been flying an Extra 300 lately at wot because it's a screamer. It's getting my eye/hand coordination and staying-ahead-of-the-airplane where they need to be for the Avanti.

    Awesome jet plane - stunning colour scheme.
    I first saw a video of the Freewing Avanti-S the first time I encountered the Petrincic Bros channel - I thought then that when I get a "2nd" edf that it owuld be the Avanti. My first EDF is a HKing FlyCat - the definitive 1st EDF jet and its still flying.
    It's strange how events unfold. I've run out of hangar space for one and heavy resistance from the missus to acquiring "yet another plane".
    I've just maidened my Hangar-9 Valiant 10cc - what an amazing plane - most observers thought I'd gone nuts going back to a "high wing trainer" : the Valiant is anything but. Mine is on EP with 6S using the motor from an Avios Extra 330 and the 80Amp ESC from half of an SU-30 on APC 14x6, giving a thrust to mass ration of 1.16 : 1. The Valiant flies sooo smooothee that its graceful even while executing aerobatic manoeuvres. Review one? Look out for my maiden video when I publish it shortly.
    Its funny how things can also go full circle: I have just committed to buying an E-Flite SU-30.... Now I really am in serous trouble from those two fronts.

      Lol...Dave sounds like you're in hot water! Man I love the Valiant, and the 10cc is sweet. I've maidened a couple for people. Very capable with enough motor. I'm actually scheduled to maiden an SU-30 for a buddy soon and we'll film it. I look forward to your video!

    Nice flying, and beautiful aircraft. I'm moving up from an E-flight Viper 70mm which I love as my 1st EDF. I suppose the natural progression might be the Viper 90mm w/130A ESC, but I don't want another Viper, at the moment. So, I was looking first at the FMS Futura V3 80mm EDF PNP, and I'd use a Spectrum (because I'm a Spectrum guy) AR637T DSMX 6-Channel AS3X & SAFE Telemetry Receiver with my Spectrum NX8 controller. I'd like to know if you've experience, analysis or opinion of these two 80MM EDF's? Thanks in advance.

      Hey David. Thanks very much. I have flown them both, and to be honest they are similar. Both are high quality planes and they are equally capable. I'd go for the one you think looks the best. For me it's the Avanti. A good set up of the airframe and a well tuned AR637T will net you a fantastic jet either way.

      @@ModelAV8RChannel Excellent! I thank you...Sir. One possibly extraneous question. I fly in San Diego, and some the members use what they call a "satellite receiver" from what I gather plugs into the SRXL2 port on the main receiver, and acts as a amplifier. I'm thinking of the Spektrum DSMX remote RC receiver with 2-Way positionable Antenna?

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  Рік тому

      Satellite RX's definitely improve RX performance by giving you multiple dual diversity points within the plane. I use them in all my giant scale balsa stuff, but not usually in a foamy. That said they can be installed in whatever you want. A bit of extra insurance so to speak.

    Another great video! Got one last week not sure I'm ready for the maiden just yet, will fly my used e-flite A10 a bit more. Just got the 3D printed gear brace and exhaust port today for the Avanti, turned out really nice. BTW the FMS Pitts V2 1400 with your recommendations is still flying great!

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks so much Rob...really appreciate it man! Glad the Pitts video was useful...it is a great flying plane. You will love the Avanti...it slows down really nice. If you set the throws up less than we did or program a low rate you can handle it, but I get that we all have to have our own comfort level. Just remember with a good sport jet like the Avanti it will go slow and its solid slow. A lot of new EDF pilots make the mistake of thinking "got to keep that speed up"...things happen really fast at 100 mph. Always remember she can fly just fine at 50. Have a plan, fly slower so you have time to think, and keep it smooth. You will be fine. Happy flying! Let us know how you like the Avanti when you fly it!

    Quality review, thanks a lot.
    I see at my club some experienced EDF pilots enjoy this plane so much, whereas it’s very easy to fly.
    I wonder why they just don’t get bored of it at some point ?

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  2 роки тому +2

      Thanks Michael! As EDF's go it is easy to fly, but extremely capable. You can push anything and make it challenging. A really good example is a well tuned 3D plane. They have excellent stall characteristics, are easy to take off and land...basically easy to fly. Put one in capable hands and it becomes one of the most advanced planes you'll ever see fly.
      The other thing is its always a treat to fly something that feels automatic...a laid back flyer. I'm not trying to be arrogant when I say this, but I'm a pretty advanced pilot. I enjoy touch n go's with a Cub sometimes as much as I enjoy throwing down with a 3D plane. Nice to have a variety of planes and skill sets, and the Avanti can do as little or as much as you want to do with it. Hope that answers your question my friend...happy flying!

      @@ModelAV8RChannel Thanks for taking your time to answer.
      I love your reply, you nailed it.
      Sometimes we are afraid of a good airplane, either of getting bored or because there is no better one to buy after.
      So just keep pushing till you reach the limits, and looks the Avanti don’t have any limit.

    Nice footage and commentary as usual. 👍 I'd say you are one of the most competent RC flyers on UA-cam. If you get the chance to film a Draco flight I'd love to see you talk through the landings as I learnt to fly on full scale gliders many moons ago and now enjoy RC flying but until recently landed power planes the same as gliders so not ideal. Maybe even a video looking at proper power on landing technique? I understand the concept now but I can always learn more

      Thank you very much Scott...I'm humbled by your compliment! Means a lot! We are looking at doing some instructional videos...just waiting to establish the channel more and get more subs. Thanks for watching and commenting!
      Draco is a interesting plane. I had one, and still have access to a couple if I need them for a video. The thing is the model does not fly like the actual plane as far as landing is concerned. The plane flies great, and can land great of you just wheel land it or if you only want to get the nose up a little bit. I wanted to land it the way Mike Patey does and ride the slats in high alpha, then touch down tail wheel first. It wants to stall and drop a wing pretty dramatically if you try to do this. I'm surprised that the critical angle of attack is as shallow as it is considering it has slats. I got it close a few times in a headwind but couldn't make it repeatable. It just simply wants to stall hard if you get the nose too far up...which isn't really far. I tried different balance points..still couldn't get it to do it..and its something I know how to do well. I can do this with several other models. I'm not sure what it is. Could be partly because its heavy for its size...could also be the slats are not adjusted position wise enough to make up for the low Reynolds number of the model. I sold mine because that one thing is what I wanted it for...does everything else great though.

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Jim glad our videos are helpful! The fences or "SFG's" (side force generators) do make a difference depending on what you're doing. The Avanti knife edge's much better with them for instance. They increase the perceived rudder authority. In most normal sport aerobatic situations where you don't need more lift in the yaw axis there is no difference.

  • @jangjinwon9355

    Great video with detailed explanations and information.
    When you set the aileron, the up-down is done differently, which is why I think that it is unreasonable to adjust the left and right with a linkage without setting the left and right channels as independent channels.
    How do you set it up?
    For airplanes with integrated connectors, the wires must be separated and connected...

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  3 роки тому

      Jang thanks for watching and subbing to our channel! I always prefer having the ailerons in separate channels, but with some of the new "plug in" wing connectors you are stuck with the ailerons being plugged in to a Y connector together. You can go in there and separate them with new separate extensions yourself, but often there is little room to route new connectors and its tedious to get in there to do it. Luckily on the Avanti a small rudder to aileron mix gave me axial rolls...so I didn't have to mess with replacing the Y lead.

They add lift in the knife edge position. The fact page just before take off was good info and I appreciated the calm narrative during the flight without all this over excitement and screaming I'm used to seeing often on here. I'm new to mixing so could you please explain the rudder to airleron mix. You say in the same direction.. so looking from behind the jet as the left airleron goes up is the rudder turning left towards the left airleron? Thanks. Subscribed too 👍🏾

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  3 роки тому +1

      Hey Mark thanks so much for subbing and watching! We really appreciate it! Yes...you are on the right track with the mix. We have the rudder coordinated with roll...so left roll = left rudder/right roll = right rudder. If you use our whole set up our mix percentage should be great...if at full aileron you use less aileron deflection you will have to lessen the percentage of the mix somewhat. Just adjust it so the rolls are axial and the tail doesn't look as if its wobbling during a series of continuous rolls. When you first start experimenting with mixes you may want to put them on a switch so if you really don't like what its doing you can turn it off, land, adjust, and see where you're at on the next flight after the adjustment. You just keep at it until its right where you want it. Hope this helps! Happy flying!

It looks as if the improvements are useful, but to tell you the truth I haven't had any issues with my V1 and it performs fine to me. Of course if I flew the V2 my opinion might change. That said, they'll both be performers. I'm with you though...I much prefer the look of the V1.

      @@ModelAV8RChannel Hi Adam, just briefly revisiting this one last time. Since my last post, I've the E-flight Viper 90mm, and I've put ~60 4m flights on it. I know, I work fast, and I have to say, this 1.4m Viper 90mm is everything I thought it would be and the BOMB!!!
      I now want an Avanti 80mm, but is there any major difference in performance between the Avanti S V2 12-bladed fan Avanti S V1 High Performance 80mm (Yellow/White) 9-bladed fan? Ex: sound, thrust, power consumption differences.

    I just stumbled over your AVANTI review video, very good job mate, and it seem to be a very nice jet aswell...only saw/readd good things about it on the net. From your point of view, which would you say is the better mashine, the AVANTI or maybe the e-flite VIPER 90mm, which i also read a lot of good things about? ....anyway thanks for sharing, blue skys

      Hey thanks for watching! The Viper has features like the reverse thrust option and the AS3X. If those are things you need or want it is a no brainer. For me though I prefer the Avanti. It looks better to me, and with a non stabilized rx and simply a good set up it is a solid, honest, awesome flying airframe. I have a little stick time on a Viper 90...also a great flyer. That said...I wouldn't trade my Avanti in for one. My gut feeling...whichever one you think looks the best will fly great and make you happy. They are both good sport jets from reputable places.

    Very good review. If only I had your skills and nerve flying these EDF's, I would go broke buying more of them! I have to ask (my 90mm Viper is arriving tomorrow), how do you really rate this Freewing 80mm to the EF Viper? I do ok with my 70mm Habu SS, Piper Cherokee, and EF Cirrus, but I am nervous as hell about actually rotating the Viper! 😬

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  Рік тому

      Thanks man! The 90mm Viper is a great flying plane. Just set a lower rate to start with and you should be fine. Performance wise...it is a dead heat between the Viper and Avanti. The 90mm Viper is a bit faster, but the climb rates are the same and the aerobatic capabilities are equal as well. Both slow down beautifully. We have a fun flight video where I fly a buddies Viper 90 if you want to check that out.

    Hello Adam. Thanks again for the superb review of this Avanti. I did purchase the 90mm Viper, and wow what a beautiful plane. Unfortunately, I violated the cardinal rule when it comes to being ahead of the aircraft, and stalled it when trying to avoid a car on our private road. Total loss! Anyway, I bought a new one - it is set up and ready to go - but I don't have the courage to fly it now. I am almost ready to pull the trigger on this Avanti and add it to my hanger. Do you think from your experience, this Avanti has the potential to be a little less stressful than the 90mm Viper? I have the Habu 70mm SS and it is low stress. I am looking for something as an interim step between the Habu and the Viper (I prefer flaps and retracts). Your input is most helpful. Also, how do I purchase the Avanti from your site to help out your cause? Thank you so much! Dale.

      @ModelAV8RChannel  Рік тому

      Hey Dale. Man sorry to hear about your crash. I'm glad you got another one though. To be honest the Avanti is on the same level as the Viper. Very similar performance. If the Viper stresses you out, the Avanti will as well. I'm curious about the road you're flying from. If it is a relatively tight space, and you're having to look out for cars...I imagine that could be causing the stress, or at least adding to it. Is there a flying field you could go to and get a few flights in and familiarize yourself with it a bit more? That may relieve the stress a bit before you tackle it in a tighter space with a challenging landing area. The Habu is very easy to fly, so a good gap plane would be the 70mm Thunderbirds F-16 from E-flite. It is slower than the Viper, but still a bit faster than the Habu ss. It slows down well for landing, and when you get ready to try high alpha flight...it is perfect for that.

    Hi Adam, found your channel whilst researching EDF models. A great overview of the Avanti. If I can’t yet fly the heck out of my trainer, what would be good first EDF? Or, could I play with the rates on the Avanti? What are your thoughts? I’m keen to go down the EDF route.

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Chris, thank you for watching! Glad you found us...welcome. EDF's are a ton of fun and a different skill set. The biggest adjustments are the speed and the control sensitivity. The Avanti is a fantastic plane, but being a high performance 6s EDF things happen very fast. (we got 112mph on GPS) May be a bit much until you're really more comfortable. I think something like the Arrows Marlin would be a great first EDF. They run on 4s...fast, but no where near the speed of an Avanti...gives you more time to think. (we got 80mph on GPS) They have fixed gear which can take the abuse of learning how to land an EDF...it is a bit different. Finally they won't break the bank...very reasonably priced. Learn on it, make your mistakes with it, and when you're comfortable and consistent with it you'll be ready for an Avanti. I hope this helps my friend!

    How does this compare to the Viper 90 from Eflite?

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  3 роки тому +3

      Hey thanks so much for watching and commenting! I have not flown the Viper 90 yet...it looks like it performs well and with the thrust reverse it should be very capable out of a tight space. That said as a general rule I personally prefer the 80mm EDF's as they seem to have a better power to weight ratio due to the lighter over all weight and yield longer flight times on the same 5000 or 6000mah packs. Basically I wouldn't give up my Avanti for ANY other sport EDF (80 or 90) if they gave it to me. Its my favorite jet to fly ever.
