      Thank you, Regina. Honestly, not sure who to credit. My dad was making it like this over 60 years ago. I got the recipe from him. He gave me a recipe that uses beans as well, takes a month to extract the flavor.

      @Master of Nothing I make Vanilla extract. It takes about 1-2 yrs with beans. Too long. However, I made Your recipe and added Vanilla beans.
      But I couldn't find your recipe with the VB But the Kahlúa is great 👍

    Ethanol turns to vapor at 168°F. Cool sugar mixture to 150°F and you're good to go.
    Also boiling the sugar water inverts the sugar. For those fermenting (e.g. wine) this inversion allows the yeast to immediately began consuming it, greatly reducing the "lag time".

    Great video and very interesting. It was interesting for me because my wife drinks Kahlua (or did until the grandkids came to live with us 3 years ago) and I was curious on how it was made. Thanks for the recipe Darrell.

    I want to be your friend. Lol. Just watched your video for the first time. I make my own recipe with 1 liter of Vodka and half a liter Everclear. Some times I do rum. But I try to stay true to the recipe. I have been looking for something to add to it and you just got me excited to try it this year. Will let you know how it comes out. Thanks for the recipe.

    Sounds great. But, wow! Six cups of sugar! That blew my mind. Do you think I could use espresso in this recipe?

      It does sound like a lot of sugar, but you are making about a gallon of Kahlua. You only us about 2 ounces to make a drink, so not so bad I think. Thanks for watching! 😁

      It's really not that strong. Finished product is less proof than vodka or bourbon. Using it as a mixer it's just right! 😁 thanks for watching!

    I find my Kahlua made with vodka tastes "thin". I make it with brandy, and it has more body feel and flavour. Also going to try it with rum.

      Well, this does have brandy in addition to the vodka. I don't ever drink it straight, so I don't really notice it being thin. I'm sure there are many great recipes out there. Good luck on finding one that you love!😁

    I would go further and highly recommend some good strong homemade vanilla, brewed no less than 3-6 months. You’ll be glad you did! Just remember, use Grade A to minimum Grade B vanilla beans 1 oz beans split down center to 8 Oz 70 proof or max 100 proof liquor, vodka, rum, bourbon or brandy.

    I switched to Camp Coffee comcemtrate and mixed sugar half white stevia and half Demera brown sugar. Love and taste and not quite as sweet.

      We have a couple of liquor outlets that carry it. Total Wine and More, and Bevmo. If you don't have those, maybe you can buy it online. I usually buy the Hiram Walker brand. Good luck!

    Quick question about all the sugar. Is not so much sugar highly damaging?

      You only use an ounce or two of the finished product to mix a drink. Maybe simular to drinking an occasional soda or eating a piece of candy.

    If Kahlúa uses Rum, then when you're using Vodka, you are making a coffee liquor.

      Original Kahlúa used Tequila. Tia Maria uses Rums. I only use only ' Taster's Choice ' instant coffee for my coffee liqueurs.

      Usually goes pretty quick around our house. 😁 I would say use within a month or refrigerate if keeping longer.

      Instant coffee for the intensity of flavor. The Vanilla is 'pure' vanilla.

      It is a lot of sugar, but you are only using a couple ounces to mix a drink, so not too bad.
