    4 Cups water
    1.5 Cups Instant coffee
    6 Cups Whiskey or Vodka
    6 Cups Sugar
    5 Vanilla Beans
    Combine the sugar, instant coffee and water together in large pot and heat on a low to medium setting until sugar and coffee are dissolved, stirring very frequently. Remove from the heat and let cool to room temperature. Meanwhile, cut your vanilla beans in half and scrape out the paste inside and add to your jars. Once the sugar and coffee mixture is room temperature, add your alcohol in and stir to mix. Pour your mixture into the jars with the vanilla beans. Cap and let sit out of direct sunlight for 4 weeks. Shake the jars every few days. After the sitting time, strain and put into bottles. ENJOY!!

    I use 1:1 white and brown sugar.
    I also add 2 tablespoons of ground coffee beans.
    If you have dried coffee cherries, you can also add a tablespoon.
    I find this makes the liqueur more balanced.
    A colleague also uses a cup of blackcurrant liqueur.

    Your videos are super helpful! I watched your meat canning video several times before attempting it myself and it worked perfect for canning the scrap pieces from my elk. I usually just burger all the scraps but I’m excited to have a wider variety. Thanks for sharing, can’t wait to try your Kalua recipe!

    Seagrams Vodka ... "on the bottom shelf", meaning cheap? Priceless. I wonder how many Canadians are going to be having fits at that suggestion. Now don't come after me, I'm Canadian. And I'm one who is under no illusions that Canadian spirits: rye, rum and/or vodka are superior to those from most other places. I'd definitely take Jack Daniel's over any Canadian rye whisky.
    On another note. Great presentation form. Too bad you got distracted at the end.
    Best and enjoy.

    Have you ever tried this with brown sugar? Also how about coffee made from freshly ground beans using a french press or something? Would it be 4 cups of that instead of 4 cups of water + 1.5 cups instant?

    • @lizhayes7474
      @lizhayes7474  Рік тому

      I have not but my sister uses brown sugar in hers and she really likes it . As far as the instant coffee goes, if you just use regular coffee, even strong French press, it doesn’t give it the coffee taste. The only thing I’ve found to get the really strong coffee taste is to use instant coffee. I don’t drink instant coffee 🤢 but I prefer it in my Kahlua.

    I want to make a pint, how much instant coffee should I use?
    Is the amount of coffee 2x strength of a normal cup of coffee? 3x, 4x, 5x? If I have that as a refrence I could measure out myself, just not sure how strong the coffee part should be.
    Also, being that it's instant coffee and sugar could I just use all alcohol instead of water and keep the proof high?
    I'm hoping to make it tonight so it has enough time to sit before giving as an Xmas gift.
    Cheers, thanks for your time and much love to all.

    • @lizhayes7474
      @lizhayes7474  Рік тому

      That’s a hard one for me to answer because I’ve never done it . I will say DO NOT simmer alcohol in a pot to dissolve the sugar in because alcohol is highly flammable and you could set your kitchen on fire. It also evaporates quickly so you are going to lose the liquid. In my recipe you are heating the water up to dissolve the sugar and coffee and then pouring the alcohol in only once the water is cooled off. So you would need a little water to dissolves those things in.
      The instant coffee makes it very strong. It’s not coffee that I would want to drink. It’s probably 5x as strong. But you could easily make it stronger with coffee. If you made it and it didn’t taste enough like coffee then you could just heat a tiny bit of water up and add some instant coffee to it and then once it’s dissolved, add it to the rest of it. Or if it’s too strong just add some more water to even it out.
      It’s really adaptable but I’m hestitant to give you any measurements because it’s not something I’ve done and I would not want to tell you to do it and it taste terrible.
      So really bottom line is you are gonna have to experiment with it.
      Sorry I can’t be of more help.

      @skepticfucker280 Рік тому

      @@lizhayes7474 thank you, I basically took 2 cups of sugar, half a vinalla bean and enough instant coffee to make 6-7cups and added just enough hot water to get everything to desolve. Then I tasted it and felt it needed more sugar and coffee so I added more instant coffee till there was a little bit not desolving and then did the same with the sugar.
      I finished filling the pint bottle I already filled half way with 78% liquor. Hoping that cause I used minimal water for the syrup that it stays around 35proof.
      Only about half my coffee/sugar syrup was used so I saved the rest to drink in the morning with a good amount of milk. Lol
      The alcohol I used was a peach/nectarine brandy that was unaged (peach moonshine) and I'm hoping the brandy flavors get covered up with the coffee. My parents are a fan of coffee liquors and Irish Cream ect, not so much of a mason jar filled with peaches and rocket fuel (my sister's Xmas present) so I'm hoping this works well.
      In 2 weeks I'm going to put in a different jar and hopefully leave the stuff that settles at the bottom and filter out the vanilla bean.
      Thank you for the time spent replying, you reply has made me more comfortable with the decisions I took while making this.
      Cheers and much love to you and your family/friends.

    Have you thought about putting the beans in vodka so everything in flavor is infused into vodka??

    • @lizhayes7474
      @lizhayes7474  7 місяців тому

      Yeah I do. That’s how you make homemade vanilla. You put vanilla beans in vodka and let it sit until it gets as strong of a flavor as you want it to have . And it’s so much better than store bought vanilla.

    Always wonder, do you sterilize the bottles you use?

    • @lizhayes7474
      @lizhayes7474  Рік тому

      No. I just wash them out. The liquor is going to kill anything that’s in the bottles.

    • @itsROMPERS...
      @itsROMPERS... 6 місяців тому

      The alcohol has to be at least 60% to kill bacteria. Your liquor is not killing anything.
      But if you wash your bottles well they're sterile enough.
      Any remaining bacteria will be killed by being in an anoxic (oxygen free) condition.

    Why does vanilla extract not work? Why vanilla paste over extract?

    • @lizhayes7474
      @lizhayes7474  2 роки тому +1

      It’s just my preference. You could use vanilla extract but it could change the flavor of it, especially if you use the imitation vanilla. And a good quality vanilla can be expensive (unless you make it yourself) I couldn’t tell you how much you would need because I’ve always used beans.
