I was in rodeo arenas in the '60s, when Larry Mahan was just beginning to win. He garnered respect from the start. He has always been the epitome of a rodeo champion, a star and genuine cowboy.

I bought Ty a beer in Kissimmee and we talked about getting under the rigging because I was having trouble. He could have said thanks and walked away but he stayed until we finished the beer and made a impact on me and one of favorite rodeo moments. Thanks Ty King of Cowboys.

My gosh I cannot believe how old Ty Murray is looking. He looks like a very old man. I always enjoyed listening to Ty as a commentator in the PBR back when I was watching it. He called it the way it was. He did not sugar coat anything.

@@JohnDavis-yz9nq Agreed - I'll always remember the way he looked in the late 80's and early 90's....Guess I'm starting to get a little old, too

@@jordangarrick703 yeah Father Time catches up with all of us. As old as he is looking I still would not want to meet him in a dark alley. What’s weird is Ty is looking old and Jim Sharp doesn’t look like he has aged a bit and I think Jim drank a lot. Both were top cowboys. I miss all of them back in that era. I stopped watching the PBR because of the Brazilians and the helmets. It’s just not the same anymore.

Nothing more fitting than the King of the cowboys.. paying respect for a King of the cowboys. My hero as a bullrider when I was in high school rodeo in 1989 in Florida on into the Prca was Ty. Larry Mahan and Ty Murray the Kings of Rodeo. Rest in peace Mr Mahan

I'm closer to Chris's age than Ty's, but I too thought he was Superman even though I looked up to more of the calf ropers than rough stock guys. That charisma and smile transcends all sports and occupations. I also am one of the few folks on earth that have my own copy of the Great American Cowboy.

graham heffernan In the 70,s read in a magazine. what was said to be Larry,s version of what a winner is. Hope i get it 1:53 😂 right from memory it goes something like this. A Winner is a person who can turn adversity into Success, who is willing to reach down and pull out that extra bit of Try he always knew he had even 1:53 1:53 if he had never seen it before. In the 90,s i sent it to the Legendary Rugby League coach here in Australia Wayne Bennet. He replied with a letter stating he would be using it to inspire his team members. Said he loved it.

    I wouLd Like to dedicate a poem to Larry . . .
It's titLed - " House by the side of the road"
Let me Live in a house by the side of the road
Where the race of men go by
    The men who are good
And the men who are bad
As good and as bad as I
I wouLd not sit in the scorners seat
    Or hurL the cynics ban
Let me Live in a house by the side of the road
    And Be a Friend to Man . . .
