As an an veteran, I just cannot give as many likes as this song deserves. Every time I hear it I fell like crying for all my fallen brothers in arms, regardless on what side they were.

Sometimes I need to cry about the stupidity of the world when it gets too much Dear Mark Knopfler
I'm the dude in the crowd below that cries with your song. Luckily you're still out there to tell the truth to the world.
    Thank you!

I’m a 55 year old Canadian. I have loved this song for a lot of years. I think it is the best song for our Remembrance Day, and any other day that commemorates our brave soldiers. We would not have the life and freedoms that we enjoy without those who fought for it. Many gave the ultimate sacrifice. Thank you all so much, both past and present for what you have given us. We take it for granted. So sad. God bless you all.

Such an emotional song this one. Especially the '88 Mandela tribute version. That one always gives me chills...
Knopfler is criminally underrated when talked about the best guitarists and song writers of all time. Sure his songs may not be 'the most demanding shredding' but they accost. They are forevergreen and will always be remembered. When you listen to songs like this there's a warm feeling inside you, in your soul. Memories of old things, happy and sad.

Take a good look, take time to listen, this is pure talent, a man of 70 years with more talent in his little finger than most pop stars of 2019, it's coming to an end, auto tune and manufactured pop has taken over, we could not have a "Live aid" today as there is not enough talent around to fill a stage never mine a whole concert, it's all auto tuned slags these days, the only talent left are the old guys and the bands in the local pubs and clubs, so sad, so sad..

    These mist covered mountains
Are a home now for me
But my home is the lowlands
    And always will be
    Some day you'll return to
    Your valleys and your farms
    And you'll no longer burn
    To be brothers in arms
    Through these fields of destruction
    Baptisms of fire
    I've witnessed your suffering
    As the battle raged higher
And though they did hurt me so bad
    In the fear and alarm
    You did not desert me
    My brothers in arms
    There's so many different worlds
    So many different suns
And we have just one world
But we live in different ones
Now the sun's gone to hell
    And the moon's riding high
    Let me bid you farewell
    Every man has to die

And every line in your palm
    We're fools to make war
    On our brothers in arms

I met a man in a pub in Inverness back in '91. This song came on the juke box, and he said to me "I don't have much, but I'd give it all away to be able to play like this man".

We both share the same Christian name and we’re both ageing . I remember him young with a full head of hair. We’ve both gained a few kilos, lost hair and need glasses but as long as long as he keeps playing like that, I’ll keep listening, closing my eyes and go back to the 70’s. Maybe one day soon I’ll pass away like that, happy in my memories.
