  • Start to Finish: Removing the fuel pump and disassemble (DIY)
    My 2004 Range Rover HSE (160k klms) decided it wanted a new fuel pump so here is how I took it out. You can buy the entire fuel pump assembly from Land Rover (big $) but I decided to take it apart and only replace the pump. I ordered the BMW X5 replacement pump at a quarter of the cost from the local parts store. This was a "Spectra Premium" pump (part # SP1303) and is an exact match.
    The info on the pump I took out is: PIERBURG, part # 16.14-6750940.1 (stamped BMW).

    As a followup to my previous comment, I bought a 2004 Range Rover HSE with a bad fuel pump for $3000. I did a fuel pressure test, saw the fuel pressure was extremely low, and replaced the fuel pump, using this video as a guide. I didn't have too much trouble with it, and the fuel pump only cost like $150 for a brand new one. A couple hours later I had a perfectly running Range Rover with no check engine lights or anything, awesome!

      @@arifomer182 I bought mine from a local parts store (not a big brand store). You can try to Google the part numbers in the description and see what is available in your local area. I am sure most of the larger retailers would be able to source this for you. Good Luck

However, the LH side "sending unit" is floating in the tank. What did you anchor (secure) it to in the tank?

    Just a other note don't run your car low on fuel as it can over heat the fuel pump keep at lest 1/4 tank of fuel on the gauge and this will prolong the life of your fuel pump

After getting a quote of $2100.00 from the mechanic, I decided to take matters into my own hand and get it done myself. +Revoswathead If they just don't come off then you could look into cutting the hose somewhere so you can take the pump out. Then, I would buy new fittings when I got the new pump. Price out the parts before you do that so you know if you can get them before cutting the fuel line.

    Hey, great video, I just bought a 2004 HSE and its running rough apparently (physically getting truck in less than a week). I'm paying $1200 and a Macbook Pro Late 2013 ($700 value) and truck is Taxes included, delivered from 300 kms and transferred into my name Great Deal! Just want to know if your truck ran at all with the bad fuel pump or just wouldn't run at all? Im looking forward to diagnosing and repairing my new truck. Thanks for the video even tho it's a 2.0mp camera it got the job done.

    • @robpoole9388
      @robpoole9388  5 років тому

      My problem was is started running rough here and there... not all the time. Noticeable on a hill and on the power. Was like that for a couple of weeks. Then it became hard to start but not all the time. Then, it never started and I had to tow it home. So, mine slowly failed and never gave up all at once. Yours "could" be this but possibly others things too. As for the quality of the video; try changing your UA-cam settings. This is full 1080HD and taken with a Contour+ at 5.0mp. Good luck with your HSE, seems like you got a good price there. Cheers.

    Hi im having some issues with my range rover currently what were your symptoms and how did you figure out it was the fuel pump?

    • @robpoole9388
      @robpoole9388  9 років тому

      tttran8360 Started running rough here and there... not all the time. Noticeable on a hill and on the power. Was like that for a couple of weeks. Then it became hard to start but not all the time. Then, it never started and I had to tow it home. So, mine slowly failed and never gave up all at once. I checked the bleeder valve on the steel fuel line on top of the engine (looks like a tire valve). You can have someone crank the engine and open the valve. If no fuel comes out its probably your relay or your pump.

    • @tttran8360
      @tttran8360 9 років тому

      Rob Poole Hi thanks for the reply. I looked into the truck today. I replaced the fuel filter and spark plugs. Now all its doing is starting up and dying soon after it starts if it even starts at all. I did a pressure check on the valve under the hood. It was reading at about 18-22 psi. Does that sound right? Any info would be highly appreciated.

    • @robpoole9388
      @robpoole9388  9 років тому

      tttran8360 Mine started and died right away too. The pump might build up pressure but stop pumping and the pressure may stay in the line. You could have the pump out in under 30 mins. Then you can bench test it. Mine would run for a few seconds then stop. Then it died completely. good luck in getting it fixed

    Will the "Spectra Premium" pump (part # SP1303) pump work on an 05 HSE as well? I'm having an issue now with mine and we thing it's the fuel pump. Starting and stalling, trying to start and making a funny noise and smells like gas.

    • @robpoole9388
      @robpoole9388  9 років тому

      ***** I believe the '04 and '05 were identical but you would need confirm that. The pump really does come out quickly so it may be worth it to just pull it out. Maybe you will get lucky and just the filter on the bottom of the pump is plugged a bit so a cleaning may clear things up. That being said, it is a Range Rover so you will probably need a new part somewhere :)

    • @jdhab19
      @jdhab19 9 років тому

      Rob Poole We ordered one so we'll see. Its the worst vehicle i've ever owned. When I'm done I'll have replaced what I feel like is everything. I literally just got it back from the shop last weds and now this. I was stranded at the store today, wouldn't start. We went back to tow it back to the house and it started. Go figure. But apparently wanted to stall out the entire ride home. Grrrr time to get rid of it. Thanks for your video though, it will help when it comes time to change it.
