tbf, by that point in the lore, I'm pretty sure the Lamenters were still off on a penitent crusade, as far away from other astartes as they could get because they weren't keen on fighting other space marines, after that whole Badab War thing. As such, they would have had to use the Warp to get back to Baal, and it is entirely within the realms of Lamenters' Luck for the Warp to spit them out far too late to actually help.
Sanguinius: HUNGER FOR *B O O O O O R G E E E E R* Edit: Moriar the Chosen makes an appearance in the Shield of Baal books, where he takes on the same Carnifex that refuses to die something like _three times_ . He also speaks in the third person, and sounds very much like the TTS Skarbrand.
@Something Mildly Homophobic Yes, in several episodes. His best line so far being; "SKARBRAND HATES KNOCKING SOUNNDDDSSSS! SKARBRAND ALSO HATES GOING OUTSIDE...AND GOING INSIDE. SKARBRAND WILL STAY IN THE DOORFRAME. HE HATES IT SLIGHTLY LESS!"
Guys.... I legit love these vids, great humor, great info, great all round... keep it up! Can't wait for you guys to get a whole lot bigger, you deserve it! :)
Played a lot of 3rd blood angels so thanks for the nostalgia. The death company mechanic was cool rolling for vet sarges to go mental and have a power weapon!
that cover art is what got me into 40k. it's a copy of white dwarf i found in a magazine rack in a gas station. begging my dad to get it for me instead of a soda. He got me both (Emperor bless my awesome dad). still have it along side the rest of my white dwarfs in my comic collection somewhere in my house. but thanks to that bit of art i not only came to love 40k but also helped me to learn to read better as my dad used it to help me learn to understand larger words. i think i was like 6 at the time. Thanks for giving me a nice piece of nostalgia Snipe and Wib. Happy New Year.
I happened to have a copy of this one and the Dark Angels one, and mailed the Blood Angels codex to a friend who is a BA enthusiast- that’s one more good use for it. In the immortal words of Nigel Tufnel- “...and it makes a swell gift, too!” Thanks for the video!
Another excellent spotlight. Codex Compliant is my favourite segment. In addition to your sense of humour, knowledge and cute couple chemistry, I like how there's always one or two real sincere moments to your reviews. In this case, I love how you pointed out the "less than professional" paint jobs pictured in this BA codex. That's real talk-and I (and I sure others) appreciate it :)
This video was done brilliantly. I love the banter of both of you. This was very informative and fun, especially for a subject that is dear to me. Thanks so much.
4:21 i use to run double chaplain HQ choice for blood angels. use to drive a, at the time, buddy of mine crazy. i would give my death company models all power fist/weapons and jetbacks while he played (that edition) Imperial Guard and Tau. very fun games tbh even if he was fuming. he wasnt the brightest at times but when he realized his leman russ battle tank can wipe out half the death company squad he became less irritated and more focused on positioning.
I remember those good days. Sanguinius Priest with HQ Squad included ~6 Plasma Pistols in Rhino, Chaplain with Death Company in a Rhino, 2x 10 Assault Marines without Jumppacks in Rhinos, 3x 10 Tactical Marines with Rhino, 5 Scouts 3 Trikes with Multi-Melter or something like this was my army. Thanks to the Blood Rage rule and Turbo Charges i often had my entire army in melee in 2nd turn.
What about some of the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th edition army books or supplements? The Warhammer Chronicles books and the Generals Compendium are absolutely lovely
Great video guys. Really enjoying all the Codex Compliant videos but all the other videos too. Looking forward to the other 3rd edition codices having their turn.
Only just found your channel but I'm spending the hole day catching up as i love it so much. Wib, as you longingly stroking t picture of the RT landraider i was literally cutting one up to conver into a Gorkanaught ( sorry about that )
7:11 I agree, they should bring back the painting guide sections to the main book and the codices. It is just nice to have in case you are out of power, or don't feel like watching a video.
About to paint my Exorcist Kill Team. Very happy to see them joked about as I thought to myself "I wonder if Snipe and Wib would ever cover them?... Nah".
"The Blood Angels are into blood-drinking, murder worship, and hallucinatory rages." Me, a Catholic: And? Who isn't? 8:05 -- Where is the traditional straight-from-WFB-string-of-7s statline for Chief Librarian Vlad? Not my canon!
3rd Ed. Blood Angels was my first, and only, army; I stopped playing just as 4th Ed. was introduced. This is a real nostalgia trip for me. I should still have the codices in the attic, somewhere...
The sheer amount of books that I find in the clearance bins at my bookstores of choice with Gav somewhere on their writers list is astounding. And I havent even started reading the Heresy yet!
I will admit that not being able to paint my models to an 'Eavy Metal standard did put me off painting for a long while. And not wanting to play with unpainted minis put me off playing. Then I discovered washes, fulled embraced the tabletop standard and I'm back on the wagon. The models might not win any awards, but at least they look good.
"Like being punched in the face with a powerfist that's also a meltagun" Thank you, Snipe, now I'm imagining such a weapon: The Melta-fist, a power-fist with meltas attached to the knuckles that fire each time you punch something. Imagine dual-wielding a pair of those.
I miss the death comapny generation system, was a fun little quirk to the game, kind of like the dark angels and the hunting the fallen rule. It's sad that so many of the cool and oddball quirks of the chapters are getting ward heresied away for the effing blueberries. I keep hoping they'll give the SM codex to a new writer at some point, and they'll decide to just crap all over the smurfs.
I played out of this codex for a little while. I remember thinking it was a bit lean and disappointing compared to 2nd edition. I'm thankful for how diverse everything is now.
Blood Angels in 3rd (fairly sure) was one of my first opponents., and the kid I was playing against there was some rule that got you rerolls.. and he rerolls until he had no fails… 😶 and sure there was feel no pain too.. that he also rerolled.. so he would have all the hits/wounds and lose no marines 🤔
Ah yes the blood angels, my favourite chapter back in my teen years, nowadays I'd be more of a hipster and paint a marine army in one of the more obscure chapter colours.
This was my first 40K army. I chose them by picking the color scheme out of a pamphlet in the 3rd box set played them as just normal SM until this came out and I learned that Blood Angels were special. They were Brutal back then 🥲 I miss that army.
I once thought orcs could combine into bigger orcs and mechs. Like, an ork with a power claw would combine with an ork with a bionic heavy weapon to make a mechanob. I don’t know why I just remembered that, but I did.
I was wondering, aside from a video on SM codex could you make an extension let's say of the rogue trader videos in which you talk about the history of the brand since it's inception until today? I got into 40k when 7th started and while I've dedicated my time reading lore and stuff the real progress of 40k has been incredibly interesting to me and I wish to know more
Can you do a video on the white dwarf Blood Angels codex? I remember Death Company being cheap but also being ridiculous due to Feel no Pain being on a 4+ and it was at a time when the rending rules were also incredible too.
Out of interest does mephiston have the red thurst or the black rage in this codex because in 2nd it was the red thurst but now in 8th it's the black rage.
You should had mentioned the artifacts, like the 100% broken Blood Chalice that allowed your Death Company with their Chaplain to make 3D6 Consolitation Moves that could get them from one close combat to another after they've killed EVERYONE.
"Space Marines with a propensity for being rather cross" - Best definition.
So *that's* why they're black with red crosses...
[Cries in Lamenters]
" For those we cherish we die in glory ! "
tbf, by that point in the lore, I'm pretty sure the Lamenters were still off on a penitent crusade, as far away from other astartes as they could get because they weren't keen on fighting other space marines, after that whole Badab War thing. As such, they would have had to use the Warp to get back to Baal, and it is entirely within the realms of Lamenters' Luck for the Warp to spit them out far too late to actually help.
*Mentions the Lamenters*
*CRIES IN HIGH GOTHIC*
Moral victory? Yes.
Economical victory? Not in the slightest.
Not really. Just looking at ebay, these codices are easy to find and are pretty cheap.
@@TheDirtysouthfan Aye, you can get some old army books for quite cheap
Most are around £8 -£10 which is either the same price or slightly cheaper than on release.
If you wanted economical victories, you wouldn't be collecting 40K stuff to begin with.

Inquisitor getting the full Codex Compliant treatment when? It will also fill out the list of things Gav Thrope has authored.
I fully understand that victory. I'm close to getting all 6th ed Warhammer Fantasy books. It's a glorious thing.
Blood Angles - Most ferocious of space marine chapters.
Flesh Tearers - Am I a joke to you?
To be fair flesh tearers are blood angels+
That's also the Flesh Tearer codex for 3ed.
*gunshots, screams, explosions* I sleep.
*new episode of Codex Compliant* I WAKE
What makes that cover art even more epic is that one of the Marines in the foreground is based on the late, great Christopher Lee.
Reminds me of that earlier-edition cover art that had one that looked like Al Pacino in Scarface
That was the box for Space Marine.
Oh yeah, Blood Angels love blood and rage, but when World Eaters do it, suddenly they're heretics.
5:56
when they release another primaris lieutenant
Love you guys doing these. I hope you’ll go into describing Horus heresy books or Gaunt storyline too
Guys.... I legit love these vids, great humor, great info, great all round... keep it up! Can't wait for you guys to get a whole lot bigger, you deserve it! :)
3rd edition blood angels were my first 40k army. Thanks for the blast from the past!

Best video EVER!!! and I have just come back from playing blood angles at a tournament
Love it! Congrats on completing the collection!
Also: THe outro sounds a lot like Rammstein's "Deutschland". Curious coincidence (?).
7:30 I noticed the absence of the Flesh Eaters instead of the Lamenters, but that's probably just me being a fan of obscure things.

The Black Rage isn't a move staring Wesley Snipes, but maybe it should be
Anyone else rewatching Codex Compliant during lockdown? Extremely comfy viewing
Highly underrated channel you have guys. Keep up this content!
I like these videos they take me back to when I first started playing. Seems like yesterday. Thanks for posting!
3 am, the perfect time for codex compliant!
I would love to see the Lamenters gets some love, those mysterious bastards.
I always loved the Christopher lee's Dracula in the lower part at the left in the covert art.
Snipe and Wib seems reminds me of Good Game. Professional format, simple and good personalities.
Always a good day when a new codex compliant comes out

Fabulous Golden Hawkboy for the win
I want you to know but since I’ve found a old, really old Beaky, pewter Legion of the Damn, it is now the pride of my 40K army
I miss the death comapny generation system, was a fun little quirk to the game, kind of like the dark angels and the hunting the fallen rule.

This codex is my childhood... literally.
Is it a moral victory to have collected all third edition codexes when they actually came out or does that just make me old?
The third Codex to be released for third edition, in December 1998.
I once thought orcs could combine into bigger orcs and mechs. Like, an ork with a power claw would combine with an ork with a bionic heavy weapon to make a mechanob. I don’t know why I just remembered that, but I did.
I think there is also something nice of basic paint jobs they are hard to achieve in a way too.
Hope you guys get around to doing the 3rd ed Space Marine codex soon. I just found a copy in great condition for $1.00 US.
