The UK version of Kitchen Nightmares really shows what Gordon is like when he's not shooting for an American audience. He's genuine and extremely passionate about what he does. Absolute legend, literally started from the bottom.

When I found out he had a children version of his show, I was mortified. Then I watched it and realized how kind and compassionate he can be. He knows not to act the same way around those kids because he doesn't want to ruin their love for the craft. Mad respect for this man

I was a chef for over a decade and I personally worked with Gordon a few times. He was kind, skilled and well-respected by those around him. If you fuck something up, you face the consequences. But that's no different to the other kitchens I've worked in.

Sounds like he was a terrible person and not one most people would ever choose to be around.
Sounds like he was a really harsh guy but Gordon Ramsay's relationship with him was critical to his success. Especially because he gave Gordon a lead position.
Gordon is largely famous because of his ability to emulate that type of harshness as a leader. It may not be everyone's preferred style of leadership but it has proven effective.

Anyone who is a true fan of Gordon Ramsay knows that he isnt at all like the memes…. If you check out any of his series’ where he travels to cultural hubs, he has a tremendous amount of respect for their traditions and food techniques! That is the reason he seems upset most time. Because he truly has a passion and respect for quality food.

Gordon Ramsey or as I call him Marco Pierre Light is an unoriginal thief that stole Marco's style and is unable to grow as a person he has not contributed anything of any significance to the culinary world ever. He is a jerk and a failed footballer. While he is popular and has been able to convince people he is this incredible chef it's a rouse. As they say dogs that bark don't bite...that sums up Gordon.

Met Gordon on the set of kitchen nightmares in 2010. I was in college. He was absolutely the nicest person I’ve ever met and I’ve met a lot of celebrities. Asked me questions about school about my life and really cared. Only thing is in person it’s really hard to understand him lol they tell him to talk more clearly for American TV and he also has producers in his ear so you can understand him better on TV than in person.
I find this is true of most Scottish people.
Here is a thing on Ramsay's kitchen nightmares: Ramsay is capable of going a little tough on certain restaurants and look no further than the bistro with the vacuum packed lamb shanks that he actually had to reject because the waitress admitted theyre not just not fresh but werent refrigerated. Owner admits he never kept them cold because of the preservatives
He chewed out the owner for the preservatives in them and how he is lucky he hasnt killed anyone yet pulling that method

I love watching him with the kid chefs. He’s so nice and calm with them and even will stop and teach them during competitions. Stark difference in his personality, and fun to watch.
I met Gordon at a book signing when I was 13 years old. He is truly one so kind and genuine. He listened intently to what I had to say to him. When his handler went to interrupt to tell him something he told his handler to piss off and let me finish. I still have the cook book he signed for me and has been an inspiration ever since.
Aw I love this! I’m glad you got that experience. I have a lot of respect for adults (especially celebrities with handlers) who give children their full attention. Best comment I’ve read in a while ☺️

he helped create a culture where screaming in the professional kitchen is a normalised act when in every other industry HR would have a word with him and fire him. It's not right to scream at your subordinates. you only resort to screaming when you have no control of your temper and lack basic leadership skills which you try to mask with screaming. Gordon is by and large a massive twat. you can appreciate his culinary skills but as a leader, he's atrocious.

My favorite Gordon moment was him arguing with a business owner, the owner went on an egotistical rant and then asked "who the fuck are you?"
Instead of mentioning all his michelin stars, money and accomplishments Gordon just leaned into his ear and said "I can cook".
Gordon always valued his skills as a chef rather than his status.
I have seen Gordon be very introspective and almost a therapist to the people he counsels. His temper is most definitely not an act but he is one of the most eloquent well articulated crisis managers alive. His ability to identify key problems and then address them and fix them is quite impressive. He could have had a second life as a psychiatrist.

His anger is chasing excellence. Last year I was eating at one of his restaurants in Vegas and he happened to walk in. Instead of making a b line to the back he stopped chatting with customers taking photos. It literally took him 30 min to walk about 15 feet and while one could say it’s publicity in the public eye. The face and eyes never lie and you could see he truly enjoyed talking to his customers.
Ramsay's rage does not come from his father. It comes from his extreme empathy of being a customer
If you wait an hour for food that's undercooked, he's expressing rage on your behalf because a polite talking too isn't going to help restaurants in crisis
When you realize the amount of work Gordon went through to get to where he’s at, you can understand why he might be a little upset that people who call themselves top chefs but they don’t know how to adhere to clean guidelines in the kitchen or even cook very well. I feel like a similar sentiment to be said of guys like Eminem (who I know everyone still loves to act like he’s just an angry old man who fell off years ago). But the more I’ve learned and looked into Gordon’s upbringing and how intense a lot of the people that taught him were, I have nothing but respect for the man.
I remember in first season of Hell's Kitchen an executive chef served Gordon raw salmon and he called him a plank. And in this season the contestants weren't required to be chefs so messing up salmon as an executive chef is a *very big deal*

Season 1 HK Gordon Ramsay still calm as it was his first time made an appeareance on America so nobody will expect him to be so angry. The most entertaining part of watching him angry is when he kicked the entire team or the individual out.
An abusive up-bringing, borderline (if not outright) abusive professional teaching, and a constantly stressful work environment tends to wind people up like a coil.
We see in other shows like Masterchef, Gordon is fully able to tackle things calmly, even downright jovially. And if he's dealing with kids his patience and compassion really shine through. His kids speak highly of him, so clearly didn't adopt his father's "parenting", and isn't aggressive or angry around the house.
Something tells me the shows where Ramsey is screaming at people is a mix of borh releasing a lot of pent up shit, and played up a little (or a lot) for entertainment.
Not only that but it’s also important to note that the two shows where he’s angriest are Hell’s Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares. The ones where he’s dealing with people who are supposedly professional. If he sees someone in master chef not cook something perfectly he’ll tell them how they messed up and how to do it better. In something like Hell’s Kitchen it’s a different story since they should know how to cook something like a scallop, yet they never can.

Gordan (specifically on hot ones) used to talk about the great Chefs he learned from and how much abuse they put him through even though he laughs it off, that childhood + working on such a tight schedule that if you leave the salmon in the pan for just 10 seconds too long, the head chef will downright throw this whole dish out and say start again AND call you filthy names (that's not just a Gordan thing that is a Head Chef thing)
I've never been to a high-end restaurant but even as a costumer at this little Chinese place I grew up near I remember someones order was way later than the other ones and when the WAITRESS (not even a bloke) came out she had a visible red mark on her face like she'd been slapped.
Could've been a family business, idk for sure but that arguably makes it even worse that they would hit their daughter for a small mistake that we as "diners" wouldn't have even noticed..
Not to mention he respect people boundaries like when a contestant didn't want to be called a name his abusive father used to call him, Hordon proffenaily apologized and used his full name
Yeah... this video misses the mark wanting to imply that Ramsay is a brute "because of his upbringing." As far as I know, he was never violent with his family or his staff (shouting in a kitchen environment is not violence in the traditional sense of the word).
The same way he learned from Marco's fierce personality in the kitchen, he learned from his dad's erratic behavior. Of all of Ramsay's interviews that I read, he always tells his life story, he never preaches it.
You can tell how someone truly is by the way they treat common folk. And on those hotel hell shows, no matter how much gordon gives the owners shit, he is always incredibly respectful to the wait staff and lower level employees
He’s genuinely a very respectful and calm man 90% of the time! His persona and memes are legit his brand now, but he definitely does have some demons in his heart from his past ❤
Kitchen Nightmares is one of the best reality shows ever made. Not just because it was entertaining but also due to it being educational and helpful to the people on the show rather than exploiting them for the sake of the audience which most reality shows do.

As an American, I wish the American version was more like the UK version. The US version is so formulaic that it’s easily predictable. The UK version has more nuance. :/
Sorry, that's not true. Did you even watch the show? 3/4 of it focuses on personal drama, they frame people with the cheapest reality TV show tricks, like short jump cuts and on the nose background music.
And if you read up on the Restaurants after the show, you'll see that most of them didn't like the new interior, the guests didn't like the new menu and the either ended up closing the place or reorganizing it to mostly the pre show state.

Gordon Ramsay deserves every single bit of success he's attained. His childhood was so messed up and it's really a blessing he didn't go down a darker path like allot would. He also has really helped allot of people become successful chef and resturant owners. Also his work ethic is insane and something every man/woman should respect to and want to strive for.

I’ve worked in the industry for years and I can confirm that while it’s clearly made for television the show is definitely based on reality. High pressure environment mixed with strong personalities leads into intense situations where somebody’s feelings might get hurt

Plus ratings/producers. It became a character and it brought the ratings. But yeah, kitchen life is fast paced, high stress, and rarely high paying.
Yeah just watch Boiling Point, you can tell there's no acting from him in that and he is pretty much the same as in his later shows.
And to think I had dreams of being a chef when I was in high school 25 years ago, thank God I reconsidered...

I enjoy watching Gordon's cooking videos on his channel. He seems like a decent guy there. Just relaxed and enjoying his passion.
It's also worth noting that Ramsay is not always angry in his modern shows either. As many people know, he doesn't have angry outbursts on MasterChef, even though the contestants are all adults as in all his other shows. Obviously he doesn't yell at children in the Junior version either. I don't think his actions in Hell's Kitchen are staged. If anything, the editors manipulate the footage in order to make everything seem worse but I don't think Ramsay as any real control over that. He's the host of the show, the main attraction, and he does his job. Whatever happens to the footage is out of his hands (unless they really tried to tarnish his reputation for whatever reason).
Yeah, people who were in Kitchen Nightmares even say that everything you see is genuine besides the editing making things seem more incredibly bad than it is for the most part.
Hell’s Kitchen isn’t edited or fake its real and you can ask anyone on the show particularly the latest winner of the show

Gordon's anger in the kitchen comes from a place of teaching. He knows these chefs are capable of way more than what they're showing him, which is why he pushes them so hard. Outside of dinner service, he's an extremely kindhearted and respectful person, and you get to see that a lot on his shows. I've gained a lot of respect for him since I first started watching Kitchen Nightmares and Hell's Kitchen on UA-cam.
Kitchen Nightmares is finally returning very soon on September 25th, with a new Hell's Kitchen season also starting 3 days later. Masterchef is currently airing a new season
I wonder what new Hell's Kitchen would look like after they experimented with new formats lately like All Stars, Rookies vs Veterans, Battle of the Ages, and Young Guns

Gordon Ramsay is a pretty wholesome guy a lot of the time outside his own TV shows. Reality TV has to keep its viewers entertained, so they always (even if faked) have to one up themselves or get cancelled.

If you've seen his cook-alongs (usually on BBC around Christmas) you can see what he's really like.
Funny, patient, willing to teach and has immense respect for people who genuinely want to learn how to cook but are still just beginning or just plain bad at it.

Not only is he a tremendous chef, but he's one of the few mainstream celebrities who's been able to seamlessly transition to having an online presence, what with his Tik-Tok reactions, and appearing on UA-cam chef's channels. I think it's often understated how good he is at having a screen presence.
you can tell he genuinely cares about people he gets angry when he feels the need to push people to their potential or feels frustrated with people not taking things seriously or a joke but l can tell he’s a good guy at heart from the people he’s helped.
Gordon is just very strict when it comes to running his kitchen because he takes his profession very seriously, but many time over he has showed he is a kind and genuine man with a real no bullshit attitude. It’s rare to find celebrities with that amount of being real.

He's not a jerk tho, these chefs be serving raw food, having rats in the kitchen like ratatouille, and giving him attitude when he is the professional. You'd be yelling too. Especially shows like kitchen nightmares and hotel nightmares, these restaurant owners be stealing worker's tips and yelling at customers. Watch him deal with these assholes and then see him with children chefs. Supportive, welcoming, and thoughtful criticism vs dealing with these adults where he appears aggressive

The simple and easy to understand reason why Ramsey is angry is because the people on the show are supposed to be PROFESSIONALS that should be able to handle what in a professional industry are simple tasks, they make amateur level mistakes constantly and are wanting to run a whole restaurant when they can't even manage a simple line cook position.
you know whats a simple task that PROFESSIONALS should be able to handle? staying calm and handling the situation properly. Gordon is an overgrown baby. There's a scene in boiling point where one of the staff has a blue band-aid (not ideal for a michelen star), so naturally you'd want to tell him to wear a skin colored band-aid. Yet gordon did not do that, instead he started yelling and went on and on about this blue band-aid. And this was while the restaurant was packed and in a rush. Stop admiring a POS

We met Chef Ramsay once in Los Angeles, and he was very kind to us when we asked if we could please take his picture. He took time from his day to stop, pose, and smile for us without hesitation.
The UK versions of Kitchen Nightmares and Hotel Hell give you much better insight into GR than the over-the-top US stuff. He's not a perfect guy, but he's driven by passion and wants others to reach their potential. Watching those old shows is very inspiring.
I would say you should have included some of his books prior to 2,000. Prior to TV he was already very famous in the UK. I remember hearing of him as a young teen in 1998.

To me it always seemed the over the top reactions come less from anger and more from deep passion. He wants people to succeed in a career he loves. You can also tell he has a deep respect for most people as well, he is incredibly good with the children competitors, he handles his home cooks different than his professional cook competitors. He is a man who has found success in this industry and is always working to inspire passion and success in others. I don’t think his “anger” comes from meanness, even when he did target people more directly (ie idiot sandwich) he never really tore a person down deeply and I’ve noticed he’s even gotten away from those more “personal” attacks. He may still say he’s disappointed in you all when a service doesn’t go right, which I’m sure absolutely cuts, but he’s never insulting towards you personally outside your skills as a chef which I feel like would be really easy to do in these types of shows. It’s a high stress industry and if he was truly deeply mentally hurting people I think we’d have a lot more carnage in his wake over the years with how many shows he’s on.

I think the rage inside of him is real... But he is also genuine and doesn't cross any boundaries. The fact that He has had such a rough childhood and managed to tame the beast inside commands nothing but respect from me.
If you watch old footage of gordon working to earn his michalen stars. That was his worst. He was toxic and ruthless to his staff. But he worked like 18 hours a day, stressing out over his restraunts reputation. He was and still is a workaholic. Thats where his anger comes from. Youll only see it nowadays when hes put back into that same positon leading a kitchen and he only really knows how to lead that way.

@@DannieKamete are you referring to Kitchen Nightmares or Hells Kitchen? In kitchen nightmares the food is being served to the public, any bad practises can make people sick and poor food will hurt the business.
He needs to be aggressive to stamp his point, and often he's dealing with deluded stubborn owners/chefs.
In hell's kitchen the contestants are competing to work in his restaurant as an extension of him. If they can't handle pressure and 'abuse' as you call it they shouldn't be there.
If you've worked in a kitchen you'll know that being cursed at and angry responses is part of the industry

I've worked in restaurants before, in two countries, and being cursed at is not something I experienced. Maybe it's a cultural thing, but that behavior would never fly in my country. Justifying insane outbursts as part and parcel of the industry is how these chefs think they're gods in human form

He's honest about things. If a chef on Hell's Kitchen makes a great dish on the first bite, he gives the chef his props. He doesn't spit all of them out and insult the food. I'm watching Food Stars. I appreciate the concept.

It's hard to comprehend how someone who is so mean to people, is so loved by everyone. I think it stems from the fact that, yes he is verbally abusive in some cases, BUT he does it because he knows the person is capable of better and he just wants them to see the potential in themselves that he sees in them.

A mate of mine used to work as customer support for a Telecom company here in UK. She dealt with Ramsey a number of times and said he was extremely polite and pleasant always, never with an attitude, etc. Jamie Oliver, on the other hand, is meant to be an epic tool. So weird how their TV persona's are completely opposite.
Gordon only gets upset because he genuinely wants that person to learn and get better, he doesn't get angry just because "he feels like it". If you've seen some of his other videos aside from the "memes" he actually helps them, to the point where he is almost counseling them.

i don't think gordons temper is actually as bad as it seems, there's lots of articles from past HK contestants saying that whenever they have problems in the kitchen he always takes the time to help and show them how to do whatever they are doing, fox just cuts all that out

my culinary teacher met gordon in vegas and said that his attitude on tv is just for show. he’s actually an insanely nice guy irl and doesn’t get on his other chefs like this. a security guard from my school met him at hell’s kitchen once too and said he’s an extremely nice guy. everyone that has met him has said how nice he is and legitimately too so to me this makes sense
