That person seems arrogant based on appearance, unlike Gordon Ramsay, who has proved a lot by showcasing his skills and taking on challenges from diverse cuisines like Japanese. Ramsay’s track record in the culinary world speaks volumes!
Gordon once said in an interview that the difference between hell's kitchen and masterchef is that in hell's kitchen those are supposed to be professionals while masterchef are cooks, home cooks, and other who just picked up cooking as hobby and he recognized that. Which is why he is less harsh and provides more feed back in masterchef compared to hell's kitchen
Yeah, that's kind of what drew me into this show at first, but then they do the Hell's Kitchen-like restaurant takeover challenges, and all of that goes out the window. These are home cooks who don't need to produce dishes in that environment and have likely never done so. Putting them in that situation and expecting the perfection level they seem to want really takes me out of it.
@@JRAndrachI mean, it's fine closer to finals, since people who get that far would most likely be scouted and could use job experience. But early on? Nah.
I believe in the same interview he specifically stated that especially in HK he sees chefs who call themselves executive chefs and he is a lot more critical of them than those that just got out of school or have less experience.
Gordon is only strict in team challenges in MasterChef because they want the guests to eat their food delicately. If they fuck up even one mistake, he will be angry as hell.
The funniest thing is when the contestants always say “Yes chef….Yes chef…… Yes Joe” when receiving feedback from the 3 judges, cuz they always gotta remind Joe he’s not a real chef
The final straw that made me lose what little respect I had for Joe is when he said that in his restaurant, he would put Christine Huyen Tran Hà in the coat room because of her disability. It made Christine winning that season even greater. He’s an absolute pig and I’m glad to see someone make a video on even just the smallest part of it!
Ramsey is extremely harsh, but he actually tells you what's wrong with your food. Joe's "criticism" is basically: "Your food sucks, you should never be a chef and your face is ugly"
And if you actually watch the raw cuts of kitchen nightmares. It actually takes a WHILE for him to get riled up and it only happens after repetitive mistakes.
The difference is, Gordon is only harsh for the benefit of others as motivation, or if you are genuinely just incapable of cooking. You can tell he truly cares about those that are passionate. Joe on the other hand isn’t harsh, he’s a crybaby. He often doesn’t even taste some of the food because he’s so ignorant and full of himself. His only job is to stand there, taste the food and give his opinion on it, so he can go back to making wine or whatever he does. He seems to be in the business of judging people rather than food. He isn’t even a chef, after all.
@ChrisHansenDatelineNBC-gf8me Thsrs a reflection of Americans society. The UK and Australian version of maaterchef would never have a judge like Joe. But in the US people like drams
Gordon is a very kind person, he’s only aggressive and harsh because he wants you to be amazing, he’s tough on you because he believes in you! Joe has no regard for any of the chefs and just likes bullying them, that’s why I can’t stand Joe!
This is description of Gordon is exactly why his meme exists (“Oh, dear! Oh gorgeous!” VS “YOU FUCKING DONKEY!”). He’s a tough teacher, but a teacher with pride. There is no hesitation on his part to help a kid who’s supposed to be the cream of the crop because he recognizes that even if they are the best, they are still learning and eager to receive praise. He comforts the kids, explains what they did wrong, and how they could do better and try again. That’s why in Gordon’s other shows, especially in Hell’s Kitchen, he’s much more aggressive. In some of these shows, he doesn’t coddle the new chefs, but he exercises a lot more patience compared to Hell’s Kitchen, who have had their time and experience to hone their skills, so he is inevitably angry when someone talks big and comes up short.
Yeah, you can always tell that Gordon just wants chefs/cooks/contestants on his shows to succeed and be great based on how he shifts how he talks to them based on what they need. He's hard on the professional chefs with years of restaurant experience and huge egos but SO much softer and gentler with cooks who don't have that kind of training or who just lack confidence. Joe just seemed to delight in his role of being the 'mean judge' and trashing cooks, which really sucks because you know some of those contestants were really deeply hurt by what he said. Even if their dishes weren't good, there's a difference between constructive criticism meant to better an individual and just trying to tear someone down to make them cry on television.
Gordon aint even mad at like amateur chefs. He gets very pissed at PROFESSIONAL chefs because he has high expectations for them because they are supposedly pros at this. For example hells kitchen
My brother got to meet Ramsay when he went to England for a business trip back in 2017, he greeted and shook his hand and asked him if he could take a photo with him, Ramsay was with two of his kids and said he really couldn’t and that he was in a rush. My brother understood and then walked away thanking him, as he was walking he heard Ramsay shouting wait and he said 1 or 2 pictures is fine. That simple gesture of kindness made my brothers trip to London a memorable one. Ramsay is a genuine dude in person and the shouting and cursing he does on tv is almost entirely for show.
Not enough people realize that Chef is actually super sweet and cares very deeply. Not just about his family but people in general. It's just that he hates bullshit and people being morons. Which is 100% fair.
The problem with Joe is that he tries to emulate Gordon's criticism without being constructive. Gordon is harsh, but when it comes down to it, he has heart.
That person seems arrogant based on appearance, unlike Gordon Ramsay, who has proved a lot by showcasing his skills and taking on challenges from diverse cuisines like Japanese. Ramsay’s track record in the culinary world speaks volumes!
and gordon at the end of the day genuinely cares. he’s harsh, but it’s because he wants to push them to the next level, not to shut them down or be a bully. his criticism is always backed with actual feedback, encouragement, and action to support the person he’s criticizing. sometimes his harshness will hurt, but the difference between him and joe is that joe’s criticism begins and ends with being a dickhead. gordon will go the extra mile to work with you and genuinely help you improve, because he genuinely wants to see you improve. not only with feedback, either. there’s plenty of footage of him teaching chefs how to improve their cook, or if his criticism ends up hurting the chef, him talking them down and encouraging them. he does a LOT for the people he criticizes, because cooking is his passion. but joe just wants to be a cunt.
He wants to be Gordon so badly but never gives credit where it’s actually due. Plus he just berates the contestants instead of giving constructive criticism
He’s a narcissistic businessman pretending to be a chef, with the twist that he’s too lazy to put in any actual effort into learning anything about being a chef
This dude was never punched in the face, and it shows. It's also pretty ironic that he accused someone of narcissism, when it's clear he is the narcissist.
That person seems arrogant based on appearance, unlike Gordon Ramsay, who has proved a lot by showcasing his skills and taking on challenges from diverse cuisines like Japanese. Ramsay’s track record in the culinary world speaks volumes!
It's not ironic. It's what a narcissist does. Everyone is a narcissist except him, and if he is a narcissist, it was for a good reason. That's the narcissist prayer
God if i was a judge there and i wasn't under contract, I'd turn to Joe and tell him that the contestants aren't trained chefs and deserve the courtesy of their food being tasted and their feedback being useful. Throwing away a dish without tasting it helps no one and makes him look like a child
100000% true. All the other judges give constructive criticism. I would say Gordon can sometimes give some comments that aren’t needed, but at least he tastes the food and gives actual criticism on top of that
I bet Joe would retaliate with something amongst the line of "This is master chef, not some training centre, we're looking for the best of the best." excuse/reason.
Trained chefs? They are home cooks, not chefs. And untrained?? Did you seriously think that they would pick inexperienced cooks and throw them into the biggest cooking competition in the world?
@@alberb I don’t think you’re reading the comment clearly, he said they *aren’t* trained chefs, he didn’t say they were chefs to begin with. And also in no part of the comment did they say they were untrained
I'm italian and I would point out that Joe became a sort of national meme because of his improbable pronunciations of italian words along with actual grammar errors. The fact that he wanted to correct someone about italian pronunciations is incredible.
I love Italian Food, though IK I've never had authentic ones due to it's rarity in Canada. Also, they usually have pork from my experience. But IK that Italy can be evenly divided into "North", "Central", and "South" + "Sicily" and "Sardinia". And each "state" has it's own culture.
@shadmanhasan4205 Italy has only existed as it is since 1946, the kingdom of Italy was late 1800s I think but that wasn't all of it today. It was composed of city states and independent kingdoms between the fall of Rome and then. Much of Europe was the same really, even say in France which has existed as a kingdom for millenia, you can still divide it into areas of different languages or dialects, which only relatively recently were combined into a single common language and identity. It's really fascinating. And so much good food to discover. But yeah, northern and southern Italian food are completely different. Equally delicious, of course. Sorry, that was way longer than it needed to be.
I'm so mad finding out who his mother is through this video I loved watching her cooking show with my mom. Now he just comes off as a momma's boy with the "my mommy cooks better than you I don't even need to try it nyeh!"
After seeing all the shit joe has done, I wanna slap Lidia with a barbed wire glove. What kind of shitty parent do you have to be to make a child like that?
I had commented in another video about how Gordon truly loves "fighters" in these competitions. He personally talked several contestants out of quitting, because of their passion and talents in the kitchen. Tamar is another example of why I respect Ramsey. He is always on the hunt for individuals who are capable of being "molded" into proper chefs and knowing who the right allies were to help those individuals. Joe was just an a-hat, and I really hated him and his attitude to CHEF Christine
@@FilmTravelerr i won't deny the show is enjoyable because of his attitude. However, I feel he should be the host of the show and allow actual trained Chefs to be the judges. It just feels like he hates the fact he has to judge home cooks, he rarely offers any actual feedback while the other judges actually explain why the dishes don't work, and it honestly feels like he could careless about anyone who has the talent and more for who is going to create the most drama. As a host, he could do that and the show would still be exciting.
Everyone knows that strange feeling when you see someone for the first time and instantly dont like him. He is a prime example for that. The arrogance is just jumping out of his face man
This comment hit me: my relatives and I used to watch MasterChef a good few years ago. I was little back then; I took a liking to Graham, took a liking to Gordon, but for some reason that my younger brain couldn’t figure out for the life of me, I liked Joe the least. Seems like I definitely experienced this with him. Glad I can get a bit more insight now as to why. :’)
I am a professional chef and have been working in Singapore for 10 years. I once had the honor of meeting Chef Ramsay at the Singapore F1 event. He was very kind and had a brief conversation with us, even complimenting our food is delicious. It was an unforgettable experience.
Because the Joe we see is a reality TV character/persona and not the real Joe. The same can be said for HK Gordon vs MC Jr Gordon. He takes on a totally different role/attitude depending on what he needs to do for his show. Even HK vs MC is different and he's a lot nicer and more forgiving on MC with home cooks. Joe plays the heel so well on MC and he makes a great heel in general because he has a naturally abrasive personality.
@@matthewbest5421If Joe wasn't a trust fund baby helping keep the ratings up, Gordon probably would have snapped at him the way he snaps at every dickhead restaurant owner on Kitchen Nightmares.
I never understood why he was a judge. I hated him because he wasn't a chef, and he picked apart dishes like he knew what he was talking about; and never gave any actual feedback on dishes. Plenty of dishes that Ramsay loved got shot down by Joe. The biggest shit move from him was dissing the Sticky Toffee Pudding that was baked instead of steamed; which Gordon himself said was better than his own. But Joe didn't like it, and never even gave a reason why.
@@justaplayer_8392 I'd very much argue against Ramsey being the best chef in the world. Most recognized by non-chefs maybe, but not THE BEST. This isn't dissing Ramsey, mind you, he himself would say the exact same.
Well he does know how to cook and i think its partially a character as i saw the kids version and he was much kinder, but i must iterate that you dont need to go to culinary school to know how to cook.
Because it’s a reality tv show, not an actual competition. The underdog contestant is going to win over anyone even if their dishes are worse. If a contestant is a massive asshole that causes drama they’re going to stay on longer than they should. Joe is there to add tons of drama and zingers. For whatever reason US reality tv show producers think that the audience is going to get bored if the show takes itself seriously so they have people like Bastianich on there to be extra mean for no reason.

More to the point, when Ramsay gets sharp it's out of growing frustration that words aren't working. When Joe does it there is no escalation. He comes at people on the attack.
What joe said about the blind contestant was the nail in the coffin for me. Even my "everyone is so sensitive these days" dad gasped during that episode
Dont blame him. The guy is being a genuine ass. If you have very little regard that the person you're putting down is a human being without any critical thought or reasoning, it's not right.

Joe is actually a very qualified chef. He has cooked under some of the greatest chefs in the world in several different countries all over the world...in his mind
What really made me lose all respect for him, was on master chef junior. there were times where Joe literally bullied the children, and said some really harmful things to them that could scar them for life. he doesn't understand that even though these kids are talented, they are still children trying to learn and grow under their guidance. Yet here is joe in the show, ripping apart the children and literally had remorse what so ever. i was happy when they replaced him with someone else in the master chef junior show.
That’s why I have so much respect for Gordon- yes he is extremely critical… But he knows when to pull it back and treat the person like a person If you mean well and at least try Gordon sees that and will actually show that
Joe knows he messed up when Gordon Ramsay said we made our first genuine mistake 😢 but the cherry in the cake was when he called a blind contestant a liability just because of her disability like WTF joe? 🤦♂️
Ableist fucker, that's what Joe is. I love how he got clowned on by Christina(the blind chef in question) winning the whole thing and being a head chef, because it showed how bullshit his claims were lmao
I remember when he judged someone saying "no garlic bread weighs down the dish, how about just make it a curry" and ramsay slaps back and puts him to place.
I love how the camera consistently switches back to Gordon trying not to break his jawline from cringe whenever Joe is judging, meanwhile Graham doesn't even have any other option but to stand in painful silence.

My favorite scene of him is from Masterchef Junior is when Joe is showing the kids how to cook a basic risotto. He explains it like it is the most difficult dish in the history of cooking and says what I believe was "It looks easy but it is not". Followed by Chef Gordon and Christina holding back laughter and looking at each other like they thought "This guy lmao".

Graham: Shows the most kindness and explains why the dishes are good. Gordon: Harsh, but fair criticism, seeing the potential in the chef. Joe: *The perfect merge between Low Tier God and Andrew Tate*
Joe makes Gordon look like a angel and a saint lol. Gordon: Your food can be better, but you need to focus and work hard to be better. Joe: Your food is trash, why are you even here in this competition, get out.
Reminds me of the art classes I took in college and receiving critiques. Someone who genuinely cares about the craft can recognize passion and skill that might be rough around the edges and just needs some guidance and refinement. Someone who only cares about their ego and feels like they constantly need to prove themselves will just tear down everything for no reason, there will always be something wrong and it will always be irredeemable.
Joe blew my mind when he told a contestant that they should be ashamed for using onion powder, as allegedly "real chefs" don't use that garbage, yet it's boldly displayed on the spice rack in the back of Hell's Kitchen.
Which makes everything feel way much better when Gordon himself says “you are such a fucking snob” when he tries to mock a dish for having garlic bread since he doesn’t like it.
@@JugularJohni think I remember that. Before Gordon called him a F snob didn't Joe also insult Gordon and Aaron's restaurants like "what kind of restaurants are you guys running?" when the 2 said that there's nothing wrong with garlic bread or something.
He’s actually right. That’s a spice that ghetto black people use. The type of people who call white food “unseasoned” if it isn’t doused in a pound of dollar store onion and garlic powder.

Garlic bread stems from bruschetta, which appeared in Italy around the 15th century, and can be traced back to Ancient Rome. Garlic bread originated in the United States and it is a typical Italian-American dish. It probably originated after Italian immigrants started to use butter as a substitute for olive oil, which was uncommon in the United States in the first half of the 20th century.
@@isaiahmayle4706 Though maybe technically accurate - depending on your definition of garlic bread? On the other hand, Joe is just like "Your food sucks, you are an embarrassment, I bet you got straight Fs in school, also your hairline sucks and your mom is fat, go home kid". It is just so pretentious, annoying, and just plain wrong.

Like if you cook him a bad dish he’ll throw you one of his iconic one-liners but don’t fucking serve him raw fish or sleep walk on service night
Joe’s presence as a critique is a reflection of the industry. He’s the restauranteur who you could end up working under and he’s got a bigger mouth then he’s got any right to have regarding food.
Joe has no real culinary background and is a complete a$$hole. He has no business being a judge on that show. Alvin from Master Chef Canada can be a pretentious a$$hole at times but at least he has actual culinary background and is likeable most the time.
I love Gordon Because you can tell he is actually a kind and caring man, He may be harsh but it is only because he wants you to be better. He is always helping and pushing people to be better and to keep going. But Joe just seems like he just likes to stress the contestants out and gives no genuine help.
Gordon is very much they type of person that gives extremely tough love, he definitely amps up his personality for the camera but he’s extremely tough on you because he expects so much more from you, you have to be better and if you do better he will definitely be happy about it
One of the moments that makes me hate Joe was when he mocked a contestant when she presented a Scottish dish. She surprised Gordon as she was also from Glascow.
I remember watching one challenge where the whole theme was "you on a plate" with no rules, the contestants could make whatever they wanted. I remember one cook presenting the dish which Gordon liked but then Joe came in with the line "but I want you to be more like me". he wanted the cooks in the challenge to make a dish that represented you, about himself. was satisfying when Gordon shut him down though
My favorite Joe moment was when a chef presented a dish that had meringue in it and asked if it had raw eggs in it, the guy tried to explain it was meringue and he still just refused to eat it and turned away. That’s the equivalent of being served a burger with a sauce containing mayonnaise and refusing to eat it.
@@angel_of_rust so that the judges can be in agreement that the dish is crap and can do stuff like just throw it away before other judges could taste it.
Joe's comments about Christine that she's a 'liability' and that she should've been relegated to the 'coat room' is the moment he should've been kicked off the show. This guy is an absolute tool and it frustrates me to no end that he's still even allowed to be a judge alongside Ramsay and Sanchez despite his repeatedly awful behaviour and mannerisms.
How is assuming a blind chef may be a liability wrong? I mean let’s be real a blind person can’t keep pace with a fast kitchen. It’s like people won’t even entertain the idea that someone with a severe disability may be a financial liability because that word hurts your feewings
When Joe brings up that they're working in a Michelin starred restaurant, Gordon immediately says "No". Gordon being, you know, an actual chef who owns and has worked in multiple Michelin starred kitchens. That right there is a big sign that Joe is talking out of his ass.

Nah.
Yes, and Hell's Kitchen is his restaurant, his reputation is basically on the line letting the contestants cooking in it and serving customers.

That would be an insult to pigs.
Wtf
Him calling Christine a liability in the kitchen while he’s an even bigger liability himself
And that’s fucked up she went on ahead and won making the impossible possible despite the fact that she’s blind
Cry harder. Any episode with Joe was the best ones

But in the US people like drams
Yeah. His comments mostly flames the actual chef and not the dish.
That's what makes him entertaining though!
Gordon is like a father cause he only is agreesive and harsh on you because he cares for you. Joe is just that Step father that hates you.
Joe’s the perfect example of what happens when you make Gordon’s rage and language of insults your entire personality.

To say they dont use it in italy is ridiculous
@@isaiahmayle4706 Though maybe technically accurate - depending on your definition of garlic bread? Like, if you're really narrow minded and think all "garlic bread" must be exactly like America's.... then yeah, probably not so common in Italy.
