    the odd metal thing is probably a driver head for U type fence posts. By the way Matt, you are very fortunate to have such a lovely assistant willing to dive in and help!!! Congratulations!!!

    We need a jeep and leaf blower update. I understand that you are probably busy with the new shop build, but I can't wait to see how that is coming along. I like to see your wife help. Your videos are very informative and entertaining. I have never worked on a diesel engine, but from watching you, I think I would have a pretty good chance at getting 1 to run.

    That first item sits on top of a corrugated fence/sign post and you can hammer it without damaging the top of the post. Likely for fence posts as you mention the rest of the stuff in use is for fences in that jeep!

      Looked familiar to my situation. Help is nice. But help is often slower than doing it yourself (watching Miss Eva ratchet that bolt super slow). But when you take over then it's all "well, if you don't need my help".....

    I find it amazing how you always manage to bring old engines back to life like that. Even got a gas one that was rusted somewhat to run. Youre a master tech. Keep up the awesome videos.

    There is a head bolt under the carb. It is inside the intake manifold. Dad broke the block not knowing about the bolt. The engine is an F head. Intake valves in the head with the exhaust valves in the block.

    That 8-N here in Chile in the condition you found it would sell for $7,000. Tractors here are crazy expensive.

    My late next door neighbor's son has one just like it that my neighbor bought him for his first car a half century ago. He just got done overhauling it. As his sister inherited the house when mom and dad died, and now lives next door, he's up here with that old jeep all the time. He absolutely loves that thing. One taillight, no turn signals (never did have), rattles and clanks and bangs, but he is having a blast with it. I think I'd have to turn a leaf blower on that thing first, and get all the mouse mess out of it.

    I drove many days as a young boy on the farm. My uncle let me drive it, unattended, and it too was blue. It was about a 19600 m0del with canvas top and doors.
    I loved that thing! I hope this one works out for you. Nothing like an old, stock jeep. New ones suck, by comparison.

    That "thing" looks like the pattern of a steel fence post. Slide that over the top and hit it with a large maul. Pretty cool. Grew up on a farm and never seen one. Would have been handy!

      The 8N was the very first tractor I drove. I was 13 at the time. When I turned 16 and got my license, I got to mow the sides of the roads in my part of town with the sickle bar. Learned how to replace broken cutting teeth with the tools and parts I carried. Had so much fun I would have done it for free. How did I survive the 60's / 70's? Especially considering I rode on hay wagons, back of pickup trucks, and drank water from a garden hose. YIKES!

      What a find ! Be sure to change oil an filter(acid my have leaked down to pan),then hook up to boat tank, add coolant,run it for a while, etc. Boatloads of fun ahead !

    The object you found (the steel hockey puck) is for driving steel fence posts into the
    ground. It fits over the post top and then you slip a fencepost driver pipe over the
    top for extra weight. Its purpose is to protect the top of the post from mushing up
    and distorting when pounding the post in. Without its use, the post top can get
    so mushed up (upon re-use) that a post pounder will not slip over the post top

    A little late on watching this but I can identify (sort of). In 1978 I bought a running 1951 M38A1. That's the military version of the CJ5 (way before the CJ5). I brought it home and pulled the 4 cylinder engine. I bought a running Buick V6 and put in it. Then, I painted it, bought a new top, and ran the heck out of it for years. I loved that Jeep! Good luck with yours. I'd put that diesel in it!

      Grew up with an 8N with the same Wagner downpressure loader, moved a lot of snow with it. Dad found some Canadian half tracks for it and now my brother has it and added a Sherman splitter transmission to make it 8 speeds forward and 2 reverse.

    That object with the mushroomed head is definitely for driving fence fence posts into the ground. They're usually green and they have Metal tabs that are punched into the face of the fence post which is why the kind of V-shaped Is with the broad face

    Matt: Eva found a "Tee-Post Topper. It fits on top of a Tee post/fence post so you can drive it in without actually damaging the top of the fence post. whilst bashing it into the ground with a sledge hammer. Great new find !

      It's for the older style metal posts, they were not the T style we have today. We had several hundred of them on our place in Arkansas.

    That looks like a post driver. I've usually seen posts like that used with in panel fences or with wide boards to simulate a wooden post.

      It's for U posts. There are two types of steel fence posts. T posts and U posts which are named for their cross section looking at the end of the posts.

      This makes the most sense, and they did say the jeep was used on a cattle farm. looks exactly like the right shape for those wire fence posts.

    As you suspected, that block thing you found in the Jeep was a u-post driver cap. Lets you hit it with a sledge or use it with a driver. You can still buy them today.

      That was not a decal. It is actual paint, they used a stencil to apply it.

    Clean off one of the brake light lens caps, should say a year of Jeep. Pull the engine. Bench test the starter. Pull the seats and give it a good cleaning, power wash it. Test the radiator.

    My Dad ordered and bought a 1964 Kaiser/Willys CJ5 same color as this one. I was six years old. I bought it from him in 1977 for $400. Over the years that we owned it, the F Head, Hurricane 4 was rebuilt three times that I can remember. That Jeep could climb like a goat. AWESOME memories...

    From an obsessive restorer, how lucky you are to have found an 'original' intact vehicle. I would have removed each part, cleaned, repaired and painted and put aside ready for rebuild. When it comes to the motor, same applies. I get a lot of pleasure out of full resto, (not necessarily to showroom) Will be watching from Australia with great interest.

      Yep that tractor looked real nice , be a shame if they had dumped it, and yes ,Marty T would have fer sure had it running real sweet. Seems that's the outcome of a lotta farm gear, my friend very rarely keeps his gear maintained, evrn personal transport, and then gets agro when he hasta fork out big bucks to repair worn out equipment

    On using the impact for the spark plugs... it's an iron head. As long as you don't go crazy, it's fine. If it was an aluminum head, you'd have to be pretty careful.

      I just bought a can very expensive can buy gallon can of pb blaster for same price of 10oz of kroil I’m using it sparingly works very good for extremely rusted nuts and bolts

    Someone years ago gave me a 1968 j3000. Hadn’t been run in about 10 years. I dumped atf down each plug hole and came back a week later. Started within less than one revolution. Every mosquito within mikes were dead. Ran great

    Love your videos. Watch every one as soon as the notification pops up. I’m 29y/o and disabled, I love watching videos like yours. Just good clean fun with old iron. I have a 75 Chevy c20 outside in the weeds, it dies of a rod knock. It’s my dream to one day have it back on the road with a diesel motor backed by a manual trans.

      I lost sight in my left eye (long story but suffice to say I live in a scary part of Africa). It is not nice. Now after 20 years the good eye is showing age and is deteriorating fast, so please safety glasses are worth far more than the few $$$ it cost Spend a few extra $ and buy quality I follow many shows similar to this scary how bad the eye protection is all round
