  • We managed to visit 7 museums, the National Botanic Gardens, and almost all of the monuments and memorials during our four day visit to Washington, D.C. in March 2024. In this video, you can get a glimpse at what the crowds were like in the museums and around the Tidal Basin on Good Friday, and learn our tips for making this type of trip more manageable.

Surprised you can’t get times entry tickets for everywhere there earlier than the morning of the day you’re going. The whole southeast is bad for tree pollen allergies in the spring! Holiday weekends are too busy for DC. My grandparents all lived in Arlington, VA and Hyattsville, MD on the other side of the Potomac, so I spent a lot of time visiting there when I was growing up. (The Holocaust Museum and Vietnam Memorial were not there yet then, of course.) I can only imagine what the crowds are like there now! FYI, all 7th graders in NC go on a field trip to DC in the spring.

You can, and we did for the Air & Space Museum and the Holocaust Museum. But some sites, including the Bureau of Engraving & Printing, only distribute tickets on that day. That's why it's so important to check the requirements for each place that you want to visit because they are all different.

We have been enjoying seeing y’all visit DC. Would love to know what you thought of the Holocaust Museum. We haven’t been yet. It is high on our to do list but we expect it will be a heartbreaking experience. We have been to the other places you visited in this video. There is so much to see and do in DC- and it’s amazing that it is mostly free. Except for the overpriced food and drinks.
