This is mind blowing! I can't avoid thinking how it feels to our boy Tomas playing live at this high level, on tour with concerts nearly 1h30min-long each, while being in his 50's... he's such an admirable beast and a true inspiration for all musicians out there!💪✌️
Yeah, considering he was nineteen when he became their percussionist, that's amazing!
We've now caught his Thirty-third year!!
"Brrda brrda brrda" - bill burr about meshuggah
Tomas has the best ponytail in the game LOL. Most women would fight someone for hair like his.
Those drums are a lesson in ergonomics. He has everything set so he doesn't have to reach or twist (he has had back surgery). He has multiple sets of hihats, the normal set on the left he generally only uses his foot to operate. He has a tight closed set on show during the solo here, and I'm pretty sure a less tightly closed set on the right for pulse. This means he keeps his back and shoulders fairly symmetrical. In cross over playing your right shoulder is open and raised with the left dropped, it's similar to the asymmetry of a guitar player and the cause of a lot of shoulder and back pain.
His floor tom's are in a straight line out to the side instead of surrounding and behind. And all cymbals in front.
It's genius. No wasted energy.
I absolutely love your reactions. It would be great if you checked out the live version of their song 'Do Not Look Down' from the Ophidian Trek tour. Massive audience, super choppy and funky grooves in this song. Can't wait to see your reaction. Absolutely phenomenal performance.
Cheers my friend appreciate it. Will check it out for sure 🤘
ankle mobility slaps expert-level 3000. that's what HE's doing.
Damn right!
They hate playing this song live because it is so physically painful to play that fast for that long.
They play theater venues at the largest (with levels of seating). It's never about 'preferences' for a band, size of the venue depends on demand and market. They're a non mainstream, extreme metal band, that only gets you so far. But, for a non mainstream extreme metal band, they're big and successful.
Also worth considering this was over ten years ago, saw them last year at MGM in Boston which is a 5k capacity venue, pretty damn big for an extreme metal act
Haake, Dany Carey, duplantier from gojira and Eloy Casagrande from sepultura is my top drummers ever
Man. I get that you're reacting to a variety of bands, but when you come across a band that you like as much as you clearly like Meshuggah, I really feel that you'd be giving your channel an even bigger boost and doing yourself a major service by mixing in an occasional full album review.
Meshuggah-Obzen
VildhJartA-Masstaden and Masstaden Under Vatten (still waiting on VildhJartA)
Humanity's Last Breath-Ashen (album of the year contender)
Your song reactions are great, but you really are missing out on some majorly good material!!!
Gonna see the boys again in November! One of the greatest bands off all time, choppy-droppy-never sloppy!
🤣🤣🤣
Since you liked polyphia G.O.A.T, i think you would love their song "playing god"
Glad you are enjoying this band! Another recommendation to get lost with the rest is Ligature marks. Not as fast as some of their tracks but my god is it CHUNKY!!
Easily my favorite song off that album.
Mind blown!
This is Fire 🔥 🤟 Amazing Drum Skills 😎✌️
Excellent reaction, at times you were mesmerized by Tomas' perfect technique, especially in the solo part. You should check out the song "Dancers To A Discordant System", they play it in this same concert and I'm sure you will be blown away after listening to this song live, it's insane.
Thanks my friend I definitely was, what a beast!
Will check it out for sure 🤘
You need to check out Gojira - Where Dragons Dwell live Hellfest 2013! Insane performance, and Mario does over 4minutes of continuous double bass drums in the end!
Dude .....that fackin beard is impressive my man
they play a lot of festivals too
This band is AMAZING...!!!! ...hands down gnarliest...!!!
Nostrum playthrough!
The movement of the kicks is called Herta, 👌 he's quite insane, meshuggah are killing it now more then ever, that video is like 10 years old
Polyrhythmic is the style
Amazing skills...there's 'faster',more technical drummer's but only 1 Tomas Haake!! I've seen this clip over 100 times but always wanted more...🤘
I saw them live a few years ago and they played this live. Thomas did not miss a beat.
I think Thomas has been playing for 30 plus years might be closer to 40
To quote Bill burr "brda brda brda brda"
When I saw them in Gothenburg in 2017 or 2018 they ended the show with Bleed. Imagine doing a full set, 1,5-2 hours of Meshuggahness and the END the whole shebang with this monster! And doing it tight as fuck too! Mindblowing
Breach It's me god!
Hell yeah man...super choppy and chunky riffs.... AMAZING BAND TO WITNESS LIVE... ALL THE CHOP YOU EVER NEED..
he 's in my top 3 drummers for sure !!! ( along with Danny Carey and Mario Duplantier )
Yehhh... Now you're getting into the wormhole, bruv. Check out Rudinger doing Xenochrist by The Faceless...
I'm not sure how well you'd like the song but cunt crusher by infant annihilate. The drummer goes ballistic in it.
But please the drum playthrough. Dan sounds horrible ....
Check Mario from Gojira. Some of his rhythms and timings are just ridiculous. For these guys though they are in the studio putting in the work and by the time they play it live its just muscle memory. Always wished I had taken up the drums when I was young.
I found it very easy to play...
This video
Dancers to a discordant system
El mejor
try NIGHT VERSES-COPPER WASP play through. the drummer, Aric Improta is insane.
Check out Pravus- live in Tokyo
Hey my man keep on doing what you’re doing, just wanted to answer your question a little bit, Bands perform in venues like this depending on what the town or city they are in can offer, some may not have that larger venue size (20,000 ish people) and if they have to play these small to mid sized venues that’s just what they have to do, because otherwise it’s not profitable to hire a venue they can’t fill like a sports stadium
sevsimo, did you notice that Thomas doesn't play cross-over hi-hat cymbals? He's moved them from the traditional left side, just like Danny Carey. ✌️
Yeah I did! I guess that's just how the greats do it 🤘
I think you need to listen to "I"...20+min of choppy chunky brilliance.... a must listen from them...
+1
Imagine being in the Pit when this comes on
🌀🌀🌀🤘🤘🤘I remember when I first time heard Meshuggah I thought it was made with programmed drum machine. I just couldn’t believe it could be played by a human!
With each new video your voice on the phrase “choppy drops” sounds tougher and tougher! I won’t be surprised if in couple of months you’ll be growling, mate! 🌀🌀🌀😂😂😂
It sounds damn near identical!
Haha yeah that's the direction it's going in 🤣
Clockworks (drumcam version), Phantoms, The demons name is surveillance. All greats check em out
Check out “Bill Burr on Messugah”
Please check out Gaerea!! Amazing black metal from Portugal! Get your black coffee ready!
Never has 4/4 sounded so 6981791-33848/980891377...Plus, m-Fer is playing GHOST notes on that snare FFS
Bro a drum cam you have to check out is “Our Endless War” by Whitechapel. Their ex drummer Ben was fucking amazing!

Hardcore Meshuggah fans are already aware but there are couple instances where Bill Burr just absolutely fawns over Meshuggah.
One story on the Howie Mandell Podcast, he tells about how Danny Carey's mind was blown in from of him when Tomas "lopped off an 8th note and it all came back around on itself" or some shit.
Yeah, man.
Im here for all your Shuggah!
It took him 6 months to learn how to actually play this song after writing it
It took him longer to learn this song than the entire rest of the album.
That so? Btw love that profile pic
God Tier
Also not heel toe. All single strokes. Twice as amazing
dont try this at home kids!!!
How does he not have arthritis lol
I love the drumming/music of them, but cannot handle an entire song of screaming. Lots of great music like this that is, for me, inaccessible.
Beast...?! 😂 Evgeny Novikov from SlaughterToPrevail... That we call BEAST 🤘😎🔥😈
