My dad had this type of rig years ago I must have been 7-8 he use to be driver for delivering furniture over the road . Was a orange beast as he use to call it . Sad the day he retired from being sick of lung cancer he sold her and she was sold and scraped . Brings back so many memories of me in the front seat man . Thanks for showing this old girl brings back so many memories . He was a New York driver to Virginia at times or South Carolina .
My first big truck was an 87 just like that with a tandem axle. Loved that truck. You have a real treasure there. Its so honest, easy to work on, and no electronics. Them old cummins motors sound so cool too.
I drove a 1986 with the same cab. It was 244 wb , 60 series Detroit 430hp out of a 2000 FLD120, 13spd , 12 n 40 Eaton's on 11r24.5 on all new Alcoa wheels. I hauled overlenght loads with it for TERRY MADIGAN out of Quebec Canada. 5 Axel trlr, great thing was we could overhang 12 ft over the front of the trailer, hauled 70ft on a 48 ft trailer. Real money maker of a truck. Miss the old girl. Now I drive a 2020 KENWORTH w990 logging truck.
I learned in a cab over Mack with a 5 speed maxidine transmission spent many a weekends in it with my dad great memory’s on the road he drove for 25 years I drove for 28 years thanks for sharing!
Sorry to hear about your dad. Mine passed a month after i returned home from my tour in the Marine Corp. I was 28. Cant believe what little time i had with him. I want to do the same thing youve done. My dad drove me around in his 55 Ford panel truck when I was a small child. I loved that truck, but mostly loved being with dad. I hope your truck brings you back many fond memories. Your dad will be right there next to you every mile you go. Bless you brother.

Glad to see this single axle cabover being restored....nothing like em! I have an old Walmart 9670 w/ series 60 in it. Haven’t done much with it lately, but I plan on going over it, adding a trailer hitch and some other lights as well. I love a single axle! Keep us posted! Porter Dude of Ohio.
Awesome man, congrats on the purchase. When my dad passed away he still had his old single axle Diamond Rio cabover with a sleeper, and two White Road Bosses (day cabs). They hadn't started in probably 8 or 9 years. Me and my brothers were still in our 20's and we didn't think much about it and sold 'em essentially for scrap. Now 15 years later, I watch "Will It Start" videos all the time and realize that all 3 of those rigs probably would have fired right up LOL!!!! And even worse, I'm thinking about trying to pick up an old rig FML!!!!
It looks similar to a Schneider cab over from the middle to late '90's,except that theirs had two drive axles,and were equipped with Detroit 60 series engines - at least the late '90's models were . Good luck bringing yours back to life!
I love that even with the single screw. I hope you have a way to fund getting your project the way you want it. That would make the perfect camper tractor or for a 35 ft equipment trailer to haul backhoes and such. I hear spreading dryer sheets around will keep mice out. Anyone who just tears them up for fun like Bruce Wilson doesn’t deserve the money he has to waste on them.
My dad passed away when I was 16. He had the similar truck in maroon color. A great family friend now owns the truck and hasn't changed anything . I hope to own it one day.
I love cab overs!! When my uncle was an independent driver back in the late 70's to early 80's I used to go out with him during summer vacations. Great video and super awesome truck. Thanks for bringing back some good memories!!
My dad drove that exact same model cabover throughout the 80s and early 90’s for allied. He’s 65 now and still loves cabovers every time he sees one. Seeing this video honestly brought a tear to my eye man. I’d love to restore one and let my dad get up in the driver seat once more. Thanks for this video!

I remember those trucks a company that was near my house used those as shunt trucks to bring trailers from their main plant to their warehouse they were just day cab models with no sleeper anyway those big cam cummins are a great engines I had a big cam 4 in my first truck never gave me a issue with good power
under the right floorpan there is a battery cable through stud. they always rotted off. loose the stud put in a gromet and run a new cable from the alternator to the dash. was an upgrade in about '88 there was a kit. did a ton under warranty. be wary if in the dash the plugs break real easy. the pivot for the clutch linkage on the radiator would get loose enough the would hang. those rear cab latches would break fittings if everything wasnt free and lubed. and that oil fill is easy to forget and the cab will bend it so make sure its all the way in.
@@86lowrider I didn't see any release on the fifth wheel either I'm asking because I want to pull end dump trailer but don't want to mess up the airbags
Some trucks had fixed fifth wheels on them. You can still move them but you have to unbolt them. Truthfully once it’s set you very rarely move them. With an end dump if your loaded even it’s probably good right where it is. Scale it with a load if it’s heavy on the steers you might have to move it back. I think fifth wheel plates are 250Lbs per hole.
I wouldn't worry about changing the axle or front hubs. If it were mine I would repair everything and restore the cab and repaint the frame. It's a great looking truck with the low miles, it should last you a lifetime. Looking forward to seeing more vids and hopefully see some good footage of her driving down the road. Good luck with it.
Nice project truck. I spent a lot of time when not driving, helping my boss work on our fleet of 9670's, and 9100's. Put a lot of miles on them as well.

Nice to hear it run after so many years sitting, you must have a sentimental attachment to that model since your Dad had 1 and you learned to drive stick with the same configuration. I love the look of old cab overs. Theres an old cab over in my town with a sleeper on the back and a single axle. I would like to buy it, put a truck bed on the back and use it as a cool ass camper.
No project, as a car guy, is as meaningful as a tribute to dad. I have a 79 Chevy pickup that's the same thing for me. Dad got to ride in it before he passed away back in 2018. Wish I had been farther along with it at that point but he sure smiled when he first saw it. I even have a picture of that moment. I have to say that your project vehicle there is a bit cooler, though. My dad had a few old Squarebody chevy trucks that he used for work. So in a way i'm doing the same type of tribute restore that you are. So I definitely can appreciate what you want to do with it. Going to sub to the channel. Hope to see more on this one.
sorry to hear that your dad has passed. nice to know that he got to see it and ride in it. nothing means more to us than seeing a smile from your dad. this truck will take a long time and a ton of parts to make it what it needs to be but it will get there eventually.
In the fleshinc. Yes cabover trucks are good to see out of. At a set of traffic lights for example you can see all pedestrians no problem, try that with a long hood KW or Pete. Not knocking those trucks but it's just safer.The only problem at times with those big cabs is they can snap off it's mountings at times when tilted.
My Grandfather had a 9670 that he drove for Schneider Transportation. It was a two axle but had a Cummings. The front bumper was bobbed in front of the wheels so the bumper wouldn't bend into the tires on a deer strike. He also drove a Transtar II before the 9670, Cummings engine, bobbed front bumper. Great memories of "helping" him start them when he was leaving for a run. Oddly enough both trucks had aluminum wheels on the front and Dayton's on the back axles.

Full service, filters, air filter and throw some Lucas upper cylinder lubricant in it. Grease all the s-cams, king pins. Just go to a shop and any guy who's been behind the counter long enough will say "oh ya you need a such and such kit, axle, etc.". Back in the 90s we had a parts guy like that and he stayed another 15yrs after I did. Spent about 40yrs with 2 companies before he hung it up. He'd be walking and carrying something else and glance over while walking and go yeah that's a such and such and come back with the right parts, etc. You don't find experienced parts guys like that anymore and if so they're a legend.
@@j.c.smithprojects I'll see if I can hunt him down in the next day or two as I know where he still lives last I knew. He'd probably see the hub and rattle off the numbers knowing him. I do know his Mom had passed a few years back and he had a "girlfriend" but that was some older gal and her son taking advantage of him using him for his money I found thru conversations with him as they were having him buy different cars for awhile there and having him leave it at their house because they were taking advantage of him. I need to check on him. Kind of like an old uncle to me. big age difference between us but my wife was always like you should look after him and she was right.
when I saw the thumbnail, I knew I had to stop in and watch the video before shutting down for the night. nothing beats the sound of an old diesel engine struggling to wake up after a long nap and I love how beastly that cummins looks tucked in tight under the cab.
I retired to the Philippines and I still see cab overs from the 70's and 80's being used. One guy I see a lot has an old 70's Peterbuilt he hauls construction equipment on a flatbed trailor.
FYI That is a moving tractor.The teason you pnly need one screw is furniture is very loght.Most single axle tractors are use on that or city peddlers that meed to get onto tight spots.
Tons of these in Jamaica. Check out some Jamaican trucking channels for some nice custom eagles. I grew up in one of these man. The definition of a truck in my eyes (my opinion) Glad to see other people still have love for them.
oldsklteg a lot of people talk shit about those Jamaican truckers channels, but they take these old trucks that drivers in America thought were junk and fix them up.

Our driving styles might be different but if we break it we fix it. These trucks dont go overseas to die.. they get a second chance at life instead of crushed and recycled
Back in the late 80's early 90's I had the exact model but with twin-screw 300 Big Cam with 10speed used to pull flatbeds 46k loads.. just an awesome work horse :-)
I love that old truck and the fact that your going to breath life into it warms the heart. I know that truck will appreciate the fact, in sense of speaking. A good wax would bring out its original color and they are original only once. Going back to color, its your truck so paint it the color that you like as you spend the time in the seat, not me. If your painting for sure then no wax as it will mess up any paint going on but that is stuff that you know well JC. I don't need to sound like nor did I want to sound like that. I like restoring old trucks and did a few big rigs. I never ever felt comfortable in the cab over as I spent years of driving time in conventional and for some reason can't get the steer tire out of the ditch. For me finding the yellow line was just hard. I listened to Red Solvine singing truck driving songs about "gitty up go daddy" and such as I was one lonely driver making the best I knew. I finally made the wrench my friend and spent hours in camps all over alaska. I don't regret it
i have spent many of miles in my dads truck listening to all the red solvine songs, alabama, oak ridge boys, and so many more. it would do my dad proud to see this truck done up like his.
Really cool cabover...I have an old Walmart 9670 tandem axle...wish it was a single axle as well. This truck should make you a nice truck...might even make a nice little wrecker with a fifth wheel boom. Show some more of it as you go, especially when you change over to budd wheels.😃

Thats What I'm talking about Right on Brother I Had Also had a Old Honda Spree when I was Young those things are awesome I bought her not running and she had been sitting outside under a tree covered with a tarp I paid a guy 50 bucks for her back in 80s my dad and I did the same thing we removed the carb and gave her a good cleaning and a fresh rebuild kit and I still remember that moment when she fired up for the first time I was screaming and yelling and running around like a fool I used to wake up 2 hours before down every morning to go ride her Around my yard Street tires and fresh dew on grass was a bit of a challenge in the dark but She had lights and a little beep beep horn and I loved her more then anything in the world To most people she was just a old scooter but to me she was the most beautiful thing I ever seen Like you very well said The Simple things Man Kids these days have no idea what there missing out on Some times in life it's the little Forgotten things that Bring us true happiness If it isn't old broken and Rusty and dusty I don't want it Now 40 years later I'm working on my 1986 Square body Chevy C/20 Factory Manual Custom Deluxe pickup project She's actually extreamly soild very little rust at all but just enough I bought her not running for $600 I found a 1970 SS 454 out of a Chevelle on cregslist that I'm building to Swap in for the 4.3 that's in her now And To most people she's just a old truck but to me she's my beautiful baby My dad had a 87 dully with a 454 that we built up It's All about the Simple things in life I don't care for modern Vehicals And I don't like computerized stuff I just like things that are old Broken rusted and dusted because the rust can be patched the dust can be cleaned the broken parts can be repaired But the old stuff can never be replaced I'm a simple man And a old-school Gearhead and Dirt-track racer but I wouldn't traid my truck for a brand new car I remember seeing a old Chevy Silverado ad and I told my self then one day I was going to oun one when I see something old I see time I see love I see the miles and I see the history and I see the World as it was when it was new and the soul and loyalty every dent every scrach every Inperfection to me that's the story of it's life this newer stuff just doesn't have any of that stuff but those are the things that I require Because I respect something for not only what it is but also what it used to be and for what it's been though in it's life and to me that's unreplacible and it's what makes it Valuable to me Also Your can't ever erase time I don't care what others think about my stuff whats important to me is the fact that Its mine and its what I like and I'm looking very forward to that moment in time when I turn Her key and she fires up That's my world and that's what makes me me my live is never easy and is aways completly Complicated So ya it's it's the simple things that make me happy in life 💯😎🏁
My neighbor gave my Dad a 51 Ford pickup when I was little, the flat head 6 was froze up so my Dad hooked a tractor to it and drug it and I around u til the engine broke loose and started. I’ll never forget that feeling when it started, so cool.
I put many miles on cornbinder cabovers when I was a kid in the 80's. The spring ride ones were so stiff on rough roads you had to wear the seat belt to keep from banging your head on the ceiling lol.
She sounds pretty good for an old girl, should make for an interesting project to get it back and on the road and one thing you wont have to worry about no DPF issues!
When U all find these appealing old relics setting about 4 sale they are nice but do not get all excited and go trying to crank em over by jumping em. Along with fresh batteries and cleaning cables checking things like oil and tire air check thee goddamned air intakes radiator fluids is all secondary. All too often thee important things to look 4 what mice have chewed thru or nested in shit like those big air stacks or those winter metal termites have eaten thru brake lines. Need I say anti freeze can gel and solidify and once down inside an engine block can cause nightmares like having to pull the engine and every single freeze out plug the motor has... Use U'r head before ya make junk out of a perfectly good truck.
Very nice took me back to old memories I worked on Schneider trucks years ago select the first 96-70 the wiper blades where above the windshield of course neither Runner test truck and your rear end ratio should be on the door post

Walmart too, that's all I saw in the 90s as a kid, now a days I see retired walmart coes being used by those small carnivals, still have that blue stripes on the side

Pierre Harris I’ve been driving for 40 years and spent many of my early years in cabovers. I think anybody who also did will tell you they never want to sit in one again.
Check the shift ball where it connects to the bottom of the gear shift. Some of them were just a press fit into the linkage. If its correctly aligned, it will shift smoothly. Weld that press fit. If it would come apart, gear shift disconnects from linkage and falls over....then its cab jacking time, vise grips, and experimenting on getting it re-aligned. Happened to me....Rt 52, Mt Airy, NC...grabbed a gear, let go of gear shift, and it fell over on the dog box. After couple of tries, got it vise gripped in place and drove it home to Pittsburgh.
@@alikhangreen5477There is adjustment at the gearshift lever where it is mounted to the cab. All the linkages have to be in good condition...no looseness.
My dad drove one of those too. It was even red except it had a white top, and his never had an air ride. He drove for Harry McKenzie Trucking in Selma California from the time he was 18 until he retired, and that's all we ever drove was those
I learned to drive in a '78 model back in '94 with my (ex)father-in-law. Had a 290 with a cracked crankshaft held together with Slick 50. Pulled heavy equipment with it.
Great video. At the end of the video when you point out low voltage, that means that the alternator is in high amperage output mode to bring the batteries back to normal amp reserve. Good luck with the project.
Monica, I think your wrong on the volt meter. I have driven and worked on trucks a lot. Was in the trucking industry for 44 years. Anyway, the alternator if it puts out high amps, you can bet the voltage will be high as well. Sometimes, like the battery cables, the connections on the alternator need to be cleaned that will help output. Just my opinion, and not trying to step on toes just trying to educate.
Spent many weeks with my grandfather in one just like it but dual tandem rear. Few little tricks for more fuel, few pounds of boost and it was a Mtn climber

First new truck I drove was an 88 9670 performance 9 speed Fuller , don't know what the "performance" was .. Put over 600,000 on her before I left the company , was a good ole truck .. Don't recall the rears but I do recall 68 mph was 1800 rpm . It was a Ryder lease truck and they wouldnt turn it up .. 200 miles from the yard , the fuel pump went out at around 500,000 . The Ryder location that replaced it , turned it up to 2300 without me asking , I just gave them there truck back and drove off , old gal ran like a scalded dawg then .. Good Times ..
I always think old trucks have many stories to tell.

As a father I thought the same thing. My son is in the army. I worried if he got hit in Iraq at such a young age I would have never really know him.

in time....i have been looking for a wrecker bed to put on it....stretch the frame and mount it permanent...i always seem to need a tow truck.

I had one of those years ago. Mine was twin screw with air ride. 400 Cummins 13 speed. Was a good truck.

With an end dump if your loaded even it’s probably good right where it is. Scale it with a load if it’s heavy on the steers you might have to move it back. I think fifth wheel plates are 250Lbs per hole.

I wouldn't worry about changing the axle or front hubs. If it were mine I would repair everything and restore the cab and repaint the frame. It's a great looking truck with the low miles, it should last you a lifetime. Looking forward to seeing more vids and hopefully see some good footage of her driving down the road. Good luck with it.

I love the look of old cab overs. Theres an old cab over in my town with a sleeper on the back and a single axle. I would like to buy it, put a truck bed on the back and use it as a cool ass camper.

Yeah even with it used as a yard dog it's still low miles. The only issue I could see might be the clutch having more wear than a road tractor.

No project, as a car guy, is as meaningful as a tribute to dad. I have a 79 Chevy pickup that's the same thing for me. Dad got to ride in it before he passed away back in 2018. Wish I had been farther along with it at that point but he sure smiled when he first saw it. I even have a picture of that moment. I have to say that your project vehicle there is a bit cooler, though. My dad had a few old Squarebody chevy trucks that he used for work. So in a way i'm doing the same type of tribute restore that you are. So I definitely can appreciate what you want to do with it. Going to sub to the channel. Hope to see more on this one.
sorry to hear that your dad has passed. nice to know that he got to see it and ride in it. nothing means more to us than seeing a smile from your dad. this truck will take a long time and a ton of parts to make it what it needs to be but it will get there eventually.

In the fleshinc. Yes cabover trucks are good to see out of. At a set of traffic lights for example you can see all pedestrians no problem, try that with a long hood KW or Pete. Not knocking those trucks but it's just safer.The only problem at times with those big cabs is they can snap off it's mountings at times when tilted.

My Grandfather had a 9670 that he drove for Schneider Transportation. It was a two axle but had a Cummings. The front bumper was bobbed in front of the wheels so the bumper wouldn't bend into the tires on a deer strike. He also drove a Transtar II before the 9670, Cummings engine, bobbed front bumper. Great memories of "helping" him start them when he was leaving for a run. Oddly enough both trucks had aluminum wheels on the front and Dayton's on the back axles.

Full service, filters, air filter and throw some Lucas upper cylinder lubricant in it. Grease all the s-cams, king pins.
Just go to a shop and any guy who's been behind the counter long enough will say "oh ya you need a such and such kit, axle, etc.". Back in the 90s we had a parts guy like that and he stayed another 15yrs after I did. Spent about 40yrs with 2 companies before he hung it up. He'd be walking and carrying something else and glance over while walking and go yeah that's a such and such and come back with the right parts, etc. You don't find experienced parts guys like that anymore and if so they're a legend.
im afraid those guys are few and far between...most parts guys i run into need a computer to look it up or there is nothing they can do.

I do know his Mom had passed a few years back and he had a "girlfriend" but that was some older gal and her son taking advantage of him using him for his money I found thru conversations with him as they were having him buy different cars for awhile there and having him leave it at their house because they were taking advantage of him. I need to check on him. Kind of like an old uncle to me. big age difference between us but my wife was always like you should look after him and she was right.
when I saw the thumbnail, I knew I had to stop in and watch the video before shutting down for the night. nothing beats the sound of an old diesel engine struggling to wake up after a long nap and I love how beastly that cummins looks tucked in tight under the cab.

I retired to the Philippines and I still see cab overs from the 70's and 80's being used. One guy I see a lot has an old 70's Peterbuilt he hauls construction equipment on a flatbed trailor.

FYI That is a moving tractor.The teason you pnly need one screw is furniture is very loght.Most single axle tractors are use on that or city peddlers that meed to get onto tight spots.

Tons of these in Jamaica. Check out some Jamaican trucking channels for some nice custom eagles. I grew up in one of these man. The definition of a truck in my eyes (my opinion)

Our driving styles might be different but if we break it we fix it. These trucks dont go overseas to die.. they get a second chance at life instead of crushed and recycled
Back in the late 80's early 90's I had the exact model but with twin-screw 300 Big Cam with 10speed used to pull flatbeds 46k loads.. just an awesome work horse :-)
I love that old truck and the fact that your going to breath life into it warms the heart. I know that truck will appreciate the fact, in sense of speaking. A good wax would bring out its original color and they are original only once. Going back to color, its your truck so paint it the color that you like as you spend the time in the seat, not me. If your painting for sure then no wax as it will mess up any paint going on but that is stuff that you know well JC. I don't need to sound like nor did I want to sound like that. I like restoring old trucks and did a few big rigs. I never ever felt comfortable in the cab over as I spent years of driving time in conventional and for some reason can't get the steer tire out of the ditch. For me finding the yellow line was just hard. I listened to Red Solvine singing truck driving songs about "gitty up go daddy" and such as I was one lonely driver making the best I knew. I finally made the wrench my friend and spent hours in camps all over alaska. I don't regret it
i have spent many of miles in my dads truck listening to all the red solvine songs, alabama, oak ridge boys, and so many more. it would do my dad proud to see this truck done up like his.

Really cool cabover...I have an old Walmart 9670 tandem axle...wish it was a single axle as well. This truck should make you a nice truck...might even make a nice little wrecker with a fifth wheel boom. Show some more of it as you go, especially when you change over to budd wheels.😃

Thats What I'm talking about Right on Brother I Had Also had a Old Honda Spree when I was Young those things are awesome I bought her not running and she had been sitting outside under a tree covered with a tarp I paid a guy 50 bucks for her back in 80s my dad and I did the same thing we removed the carb and gave her a good cleaning and a fresh rebuild kit and I still remember that moment when she fired up for the first time I was screaming and yelling and running around like a fool I used to wake up 2 hours before down every morning to go ride her Around my yard Street tires and fresh dew on grass was a bit of a challenge in the dark but She had lights and a little beep beep horn and I loved her more then anything in the world To most people she was just a old scooter but to me she was the most beautiful thing I ever seen Like you very well said The Simple things Man Kids these days have no idea what there missing out on Some times in life it's the little Forgotten things that Bring us true happiness If it isn't old broken and Rusty and dusty I don't want it Now 40 years later I'm working on my 1986 Square body Chevy C/20 Factory Manual Custom Deluxe pickup project She's actually extreamly soild very little rust at all but just enough I bought her not running for $600 I found a 1970 SS 454 out of a Chevelle on cregslist that I'm building to Swap in for the 4.3 that's in her now And To most people she's just a old truck but to me she's my beautiful baby My dad had a 87 dully with a 454 that we built up It's All about the Simple things in life I don't care for modern Vehicals And I don't like computerized stuff I just like things that are old Broken rusted and dusted because the rust can be patched the dust can be cleaned the broken parts can be repaired But the old stuff can never be replaced I'm a simple man And a old-school Gearhead and Dirt-track racer but I wouldn't traid my truck for a brand new car I remember seeing a old Chevy Silverado ad and I told my self then one day I was going to oun one when I see something old I see time I see love I see the miles and I see the history and I see the World as it was when it was new and the soul and loyalty every dent every scrach every Inperfection to me that's the story of it's life this newer stuff just doesn't have any of that stuff but those are the things that I require Because I respect something for not only what it is but also what it used to be and for what it's been though in it's life and to me that's unreplacible and it's what makes it Valuable to me Also Your can't ever erase time I don't care what others think about my stuff whats important to me is the fact that Its mine and its what I like and I'm looking very forward to that moment in time when I turn Her key and she fires up That's my world and that's what makes me me my live is never easy and is aways completly Complicated So ya it's it's the simple things that make me happy in life 💯😎🏁
My neighbor gave my Dad a 51 Ford pickup when I was little, the flat head 6 was froze up so my Dad hooked a tractor to it and drug it and I around u til the engine broke loose and started. I’ll never forget that feeling when it started, so cool.

I put many miles on cornbinder cabovers when I was a kid in the 80's. The spring ride ones were so stiff on rough roads you had to wear the seat belt to keep from banging your head on the ceiling lol.

simple is reliable! to think these old trucks get close mpg as the new ones with all the "effiency" and emmissions added to them.

Love the old trucks. I have a '93 4700 low pro with 265,000 that starts up and goes all day! I bet the mouse pee smell is pretty strong in that one!

When U all find these appealing old relics setting about 4 sale they are nice but do not get all excited and go trying to crank em over by jumping em. Along with fresh batteries and cleaning cables checking things like oil and tire air check thee goddamned air intakes radiator fluids is all secondary. All too often thee important things to look 4 what mice have chewed thru or nested in shit like those big air stacks or those winter metal termites have eaten thru brake lines. Need I say anti freeze can gel and solidify and once down inside an engine block can cause nightmares like having to pull the engine and every single freeze out plug the motor has... Use U'r head before ya make junk out of a perfectly good truck.

My first trucking job was with allied and I drove an international similar to that one its was a conventional cab cabover. Looks purdy much the same great memorial for ur dad
I remember when they first came out, Schneider and J.B Hunt were using those C.O.E Internationals. They were everywhere!! Nice project you got there.

Walmart too, that's all I saw in the 90s as a kid, now a days I see retired walmart coes being used by those small carnivals, still have that blue stripes on the side

Having put over 3million miles on cabovers, they are not fun. They do however make backing into tight docks, a little easier .

Check the shift ball where it connects to the bottom of the gear shift. Some of them were just a press fit into the linkage. If its correctly aligned, it will shift smoothly. Weld that press fit. If it would come apart, gear shift disconnects from linkage and falls over....then its cab jacking time, vise grips, and experimenting on getting it re-aligned. Happened to me....Rt 52, Mt Airy, NC...grabbed a gear, let go of gear shift, and it fell over on the dog box. After couple of tries, got it vise gripped in place and drove it home to Pittsburgh.
Mines shifts really hard any advice for that
@@alikhangreen5477There is adjustment at the gearshift lever where it is mounted to the cab. All the linkages have to be in good condition...no looseness.

My dad drove one of those too. It was even red except it had a white top, and his never had an air ride. He drove for Harry McKenzie Trucking in Selma California from the time he was 18 until he retired, and that's all we ever drove was those
I learned to drive in a '78 model back in '94 with my (ex)father-in-law. Had a 290 with a cracked crankshaft held together with Slick 50. Pulled heavy equipment with it.
Great video. At the end of the video when you point out low voltage, that means that the alternator is in high amperage output mode to bring the batteries back to normal amp reserve. Good luck with the project.

I think your wrong on the volt meter. I have driven and worked on trucks a lot. Was in the trucking industry for 44 years.
Anyway, the alternator if it puts out high amps, you can bet the voltage will be high as well. Sometimes, like the battery cables, the connections on the alternator need to be cleaned that will help output. Just my opinion, and not trying to step on toes just trying to educate.

My dad's first truck was a 1969 international painted the most aweful green. But she got his trucking company started.
Spent many weeks with my grandfather in one just like it but dual tandem rear. Few little tricks for more fuel, few pounds of boost and it was a Mtn climber

First new truck I drove was an 88 9670 performance 9 speed Fuller , don't know what the "performance" was .. Put over 600,000 on her before I left the company , was a good ole truck .. Don't recall the rears but I do recall 68 mph was 1800 rpm . It was a Ryder lease truck and they wouldnt turn it up .. 200 miles from the yard , the fuel pump went out at around 500,000 . The Ryder location that replaced it , turned it up to 2300 without me asking , I just gave them there truck back and drove off , old gal ran like a scalded dawg then .. Good Times ..
