    As a Senior Citizen and former wrench puller, I’m really pleased to see good old vehicles like this old girl being brought back to life! We don’t need to keep discarding equip that is still usable! That’s one of the things that’s wrong with this country now- we’ve become a “throw-away” culture! Good job, young man!

      @boobrowsky 3 роки тому +18

      being a part of new generation from some different corner of globe i still find this old stuff awesome, you just can repair it with wrenches and some simple tricks, in worst case machinist shop, and look on all this new crap - if computer decides its end then you have no options other than long and painfull process of getting over computer that usually fails, and.. we know how looks electronics after 15-30 years sitting in bushes - no go... and here its other world, just some fresh consumables and its as good and as bad as new, just made to do the job

      Charles ball:
      AMEN ON THAT!!
      I too am a FELLOW GREASE MONKEY
      OF LIFELONG EXPERIENCE MYSELF.
      And if your comment were any more true;
      YOU WOULD FIND EVERY LETTER OF EVERY WORD YOU SAID IN THE BIBLE!
      All AMERICA wants to do is;
      "SCRAP OR TRASH THE OLD (even if it still runs like a champ like this
      OLD LEGEND) JUST BECAUSE IT'S OLD AND FOR SOMETHING NEWER!
      And every time I hear that CRAP
      "IT MAKES ME WANNA PUKE IN MY
      CAFFEINE!! (COFFEE)
      What (MOST) of the NEWER GENERATION TODAY calls "TRASH"
      (unlike this smart young man),
      PEOPLE LIKE YOU AND ME CALL;
      GOLD!
      I wish more of AMERICA were like
      YOU, ME, and this YOUNG MAN able to appreciate
      "LEGENDS OF YESTERYEAR"!!

    I don't think there are many more exciting moments than when Old Engines crack back into life and finally, you can start working through deciding if they are worth continuing on because I like to answer that question first before I sink a lot of time and money into projects.
    We all are at the mercy of previous owners and many sold these things on because they simply did not have the skills or want to work on them which is far enough, but sometimes we buy things on Trust and they were far further along in decay than we were told or they suffered Massive mechanical failure that you cannot see, But if we buy them at the right price for only what we can see then its all good if it works or Does not work out, But Man the Adventure is what it's all about isn't it?
    Cheers Matey From Australia and Love your work.

    Thanks DC. Found this channel today.
    The Cummins 180 is indeed a claimed 180 horsepower unit, but they were often throttled back a bit by mechanics for longer endurance.. The same engine was used in British ERF trucks, among other things, and some were still in daily use in the 1980's. The vehicles were not particularly fast, topping out in the mid-40’s mph. But the engines were reliable enough, though not as reliable as Gardner 180 or Rolls Royce engines of similar power.

    LOL. The A-Car diesel was the first truck I ever drove! It was back in my Navy days in 1976 and it was probably a 1959 just like this one but only in drab olive green. It was cool right down to the 5 speed main and 4 speed brownie transmission. Oh what fun taching out at 1500 to 2000 "R's" and grabbing two sticks to tame the fearless beast (that's what she said! LOL).
    I always loved the looks of the A-Car and will always remember her for the awesome truck she was!
    Though I never drove trucks for a living after Navy life, I did get to experience other great trucks too, but the A-Car holds a place in my heart and always will!
    Thanks for taking me down memory lane!

But most everything since then is built with faults in them to insure parts break,wear out ,or just fail . This is how they sell parts and make a killing selling new vehicles.

    Over 40 years ago I hauled logs with an old International that had that same engine. The speedo only went to 50 mph. I don't think I ever had it over 40. On cold days, pull the compression relief, get her to spinning over and build some oil pressure, then release the relief. It hauled big heavy loads, just did it slowly.

    One of the first tractors I ever drove was a 1979 auto car. It had been in wyomings oilfields since she was new and as far as I know its still running out here.

    • @mlane1986
      @mlane1986 4 роки тому

      That 1979 auto i use to drive was a 100 barrel vac truck. The first stick shift was a 4 speed u pattern and the second was a 5 speed h pattern. The only issue I ever had with it was from time to time the shift linkage would hang up on the second trans so I'd have to pull over and pop it back into place. That tractor didn't seem to care if she was empty or loaded and would always keep up with traffic really well. I'd love to some day own it or one like it.

    I just fell in love with that 189 cummins engine, again. Used to drive an old White Mustang, If you've ever seen one of those. Old road tractor turned BIG crane truck. It also had air steering. Not good in tight places, fur shur. Would love to see you get the trans. fixed and everything back together. I have enjoyed watching your channel for a while, so whatever you're doing today, you have a great one.

    the laminar flow of the fuel is beautiful.

    • @ianrutherford878
      @ianrutherford878 5 років тому

      my memory of laminar flow is flow in say,pipes.The viscous drag causes the fluid at the pipe wall to flow slower than at the center and this difference creates 'lamination' tiny incremental flow-rate differences in layers.Don't know how much diesel flowing thru air would be affected much more than in a vacuum but i'd guess hardly at all and hence--no laminar flow.

    Thanks for sharing that with us! It’s nice to see old equipment brought back to life. That’s the kind of equipment that I cut my teeth on as a young mechanic just out of high school over forty years ago. The first Diesel engine that I worked on was a old 8V71 318 Detroit in a old International cab over and a old White truck with a 250 Cummins.

      @Amy taylor I’m from a small town in Northeast Arkansas. Tyronza, Arkansas. It’s a small farming community in Poinsett County with a population of about 500 people. It’s a very quiet place with a low crime rate and a lot of really good people.

    • @gmanchurch
      @gmanchurch 2 роки тому

      @Amy taylor Very hot and dry. There are farms all around my house. There’s a cotton field right behind my backyard and we are experiencing a drought situation in all of Arkansas. All of the farmers are having to run their irrigation systems so they won’t lose their crops and having to do that cost a lot of money so they have to get the maximum price for the crops to make a profit.

    I stumbled upon the first video of this old truck when trying to dig up some info about AutoCar. As I sometimes play on a trucking game and I saw an AutoCar mod, so I was curious if this was a real beast or someone's imagination. Sure enough I find part one of the old truck and proved that the truck was real and a really old company too. Along with Scot trucks, though those were Nova Scotia so maybe Zip Ties has one hiding somewhere.
