Because Honda won't allow Acura to be it's true performance arm, it will always be "Honda plus" which equates to it being a bit more luxurious, definitely more expensive, AND because it compromised out of the box (having to use and hack up a Honda platform just to say it's "unique": wishbones and/or sh-awd) It will ALWAYS be anything BUT a true PERFORMANCE brand LMAO 🤣. So yep, Acura has more luxury, more added weight while costing more than a Honda while ALSO being a worst performing, slower, worst handling, and just a compromised vehicle which is a shame! I wouldn't be surprised when the "Integra Type S" comes out, that it will be a more expensive overweight, slower CTR with worst performance overall - you'll see IKEDA saying that Acura's returning to our performance roots or some BS. That dude is just about money, to blatantly lie to everyone, c'mon dude, Acura is not performance - they do make str8 crossovers like the RDX and MDX! IKEDA should just resign and Honda should stop this embarrassment and put Acura out of it's misery!! #jonikeda #acura #garbage

@@2010ngojo It handles extremely well and you’d never know it weighs so much based off handling. The fun factor with this car all depends what you look for in a car. It looks great and is plenty fast for the street while handling corners with that SH-AWD without any issues. I will say the non Type S feels okay but after driving the Type S it’s definitely a slog and without SH-AWD it’s so-so IMO.
@@krylonblue yeah, I heard people keep saying it's slow and blah blah, but I don't think that's what acura/Honda was going for in this car. Though I feel it weighs a little too much.
Another underwhelming show from Acura. Another over hyped pig of a car. That Acura had all the advantages and somehow got slapped multiple times by a 4 banger. Get the Accord and save 20k +.
Yes your right and since the type s is awd it loses more power to the drive train. There some youtube videos b showing it puts put 280 awhp so like the same as the k5 but it's puting it out to all wheels not just front wheel. Plus it's a 700lbs difference so there's no surprise here
17 speakers with heavy magnets are not helpful for the best 1/4 mile times, but sure make the car a lot more enjoyable to drive. Type S gets the win for the best music system!
Acura heavily detuned the car, BUT the good thing is the trans is beefed up and the engine has forged internals ready for when the ecu is cracked for more boost.
yea lotta people disappointed by this car's stock performance, however a tune would wake it right up. stock power of this thing aint even close to its potential.
handling feel is great but performance is also limited by its weight. idek how acura even got that thing up to 4200 pounds. when u close the doors of the thing, they sound solid af, so acura prolly wanted a much more premium feel. problem is it's a sports sedan and they marketed it as so. most likely there are gonna be a lot of unnecessary parts to strip out of the car, but that might be an awful lot of work unfortunately.
Shouldn’t have to time a car from the factory in order to make it complete. What happens when the competition does the same mods? There are already modded Stingers that are complete monsters.
The 3rd gen Tl and tl type s would obliterate that tlx type s in a roll race you should try to get that race if u can I know a lot of the the 3rd gen tl and tls r modified but a lightly modded 3rd gen I’d love to see it
Not in stock form. This is a 3.0 turbo that’s a 3.2 all engine. Sure this weighs 500 pounds more but it’s much quicker than a stock 3rd gen TL and a TLS. You can’t really get any power gains from tuning the 3rd gen either since it’s all engine except if u put a supercharger or turbo which will cost more than what it’s worth. The 3.0 type s is slow though not trying to back it up. If it weight 300 pounds less it would of been a really nice car, slap a tune and you’ll be quick.
You have to keep in mind that the contestants like the K5 GT is nearly as quick as the Stinger GT and G70 in high speed roll...which is comparable to the Q50 Red Sport and IS-F. In order for a stock 3rd gen TL to beat these cars you would need a heavily modified 3rd gen TL.
Predictable outcome from a dig. But that roll race was everything! That K5 is a beast. Maybe they'll give the GT AWD for 2023 now that the Stinger is getting discontinued.
"...We recently reviewed the 2021 Acura TLX Type S, a direct competitor of the CT5-V, and it doesn't seem to deliver the same level of soul-stirring enjoyment that the CT5-V does. That's partly because the Cadillac has 51 additional lb-ft of torque versus the Type S, but also because the Acura also feels heavier and less enthusiastic about in its movements..." Motor Trend
@@2010ngojo you people are car guys? Yall have any idea how much of a difference unsprung weight makes? Why you think this type s looks so much more faster than the previous ones that were huh? It's because it has less unsprung weight and straight pipe gains you at least 10 extra hp in turbo cars...you guy's ain't know anything about cars, this type s is significantly faster than all the other type s here and it's because of the lighter wheels and straight pipes.
The weight is killing this car. Not surprised that it has a harder time deploying more power when it has to lug around more weight. You can't even blame any turbo lag on the discrepancy since the K5 is also turbocharged. Unfortunately for Acura, the TLX Type-S is becoming less and less appealing to me.
Not really the weight, it's highly under powered, a channel on UA-cam did a dyno and it was making only 290 to the wheels, there are tons of cars that weighs 4000Ibs but has more power, if it had 355 to wheels it would've been much much faster
I have a K5GT simce 21 with zero issues. Best bang for the buck. If i was in the market for a car today, i would definitely look at the acura tlx type s. Type S getting destroyed in the comments😂😂😂😂 as it should tho. Shit it could have faced a Prius in the dig and they would be so hype like “yea we gapped that Prius”!!😂😂😂🤦🏻♂️
It's funny to see all these excuses. The fact of the matter is for $20K more the Type-S shouldn't be getting beat by a Family Sedan that's meant to be just that. Yet, the Acura loses on the rolls. Imagine what $20K worth of mods on the K5 would do. Baby car seat and all...bye bye Acura. The K5 is a great sleeper. The Type-S is a great looking car. It's just sad to see where Acura is going with its Nerf spree. On another note, HMG (Hyundai Motor Group) is making some great engines & transmissions. All in house. Potent 2.5l's and 3.5l's ... Just as when others are ditching their 3.5l V6's...
the k5 is a great sleeper no doubt. HOWEVER, theyre in a different class of cars. BOTH ARE family sedans, btw. The benefit the type S has its that it's AWD (better drag races and even better when adding power- which you can too , btw), and it'll PUT the power down significantly BETTER for drags. Acura is more LUXURY and it's a more refined/premium feel/interior, k5 is less of that. You can argue all day about how it shouldn't matter but, for a lot of ppl, it does. Some ppl care about badges (sucks for them) and if they have the money, WHY NOT. And, not to be that guy but the Acura will have a better resale value. With that said, I am NOT throwing any shade against the k5, great value for the potency it provides. For sure Kia and Hyundai are on to something with performance bargains.
@@M4B21S88 I agree. Then there's Genesis though which is much more premium, better built, fit & finish, material quality, rigidity, technology, and just better all around than Acuras. It's a shame that the 2.5l Turbo K5 GT doesn't have an AWD option, while their other trims with the 1.6l turbo does. HMG has one of the best AWD systems in the business. Truth be told the AWD systems in Honda/Acura aren't that great. There's a great video somewhere online demonstrating real world tests showing the AWD capabilities among several brands. HMG came out on top for having the best system, along with one other brand. The glory of straight line performance of typical ICE cars is being demolished by the EV's now. The KIA EV6 GT will do 0-60 in 3.5 secs which will dust most cars on the road. Then you have the Tesla Plaid at >1.99 second's for only $130K that'll destroy pretty much anything on the road today. The point being for those stuck on badges and brand snobbery have a new reality to face that they have no choice, but to accept. Would hate to be the guy in a $500K car getting smoked by a $130K car. Life all of a sudden becomes small for the poor sap who spent half a Mil to buy dominance and status to begin with.
@@iunlock4261 I agree. I personally have never owned Honda/Acura I just KNOW that there are brand/badge whores lol Personally, I much rather get the Genesis 3.3tt over the Type S ANYDAY!!! Power to weight ratio and bang for the buck the Kia shines. No match for the awd out the dig. Acura well over 2 tons! Great comparison of numbers, shows. Thanks Sam.

While it’s clear the K5 is underrated, I think these results speak more of how underwhelming the Type-S is. I was hoping it was underrated when they released the final numbers… but clearly that’s not the case. They had, at least, the VR30 from Infiniti/Nissan to benchmark, let alone the Germans turbo inline 6’s. I’m not quite sure I understand why they let this come to market with such underwhelming power. I can only imagine how much more this will be exaggerated on the MDX Type-S.

Been patiently waiting for this. Thank you Sam.
That's pretty impressive that the K5 GT even beat the modded (exhaust & lightweight wheels) Type-S in the roll.... What Jesus told me was right.👍
@@zacharygryn7959 Not really, the type S is just the slowest in its class, you need to compare it to G70 3.3t, Q50 RS, C43, S4, and the King M340i.
All the cars I mentioned spank the Type S in performance. Type S needs a serious tune. I’d be pretty mad buying a Type S and getting spanked by a K5 😂
@@closg9309 Do you consider maintenance costs will be higher than that of the Acura? There are plenty of variables that make a good sporting commuter. I would love to try the K5 and see how the larger displacement engine compares to the accord. If Acura made a 2.4L turbo it would smoke the K5. The Type-S has flare and attitude.
I have a 2021 K5 GT (black, and the only reason I point that out is bwcause it looks so good with the lines and the drl's) and honestly I enjoy these vids because it is FAST and handles well and Kia deserves more credit. Especially since the Stinger, K5, and all their current projects. Keep up the videos man I love these. The K5 vs. the 330I I loved!
I knew this was going to be a good run when i saw the title. I made this comment a week ago when the type s raced the Accord 2.0t. Well done guys!
I’m going to say it again, that Type S doesn’t have enough power for the amount of weight it has, it needs at least 30hp+ and 30/40tq+, I hope Acura does something next year because besides power, the car at least to me it’s almost perfect, I think it has the best exterior design in it’s class, the interior well is very very nice, but I prefer the interior of the Audi or BMW
They will make it lighter
They also need to change that ugly cluster ...it's pitiful....go all digital like with the mdx
@@dal0022 personally I hate digital speedos and love that they have both
@@AnthonyParrilloRI that's fine but the one in the new tlx is old looking and ugly needs a redo atleast for the type s
Both great cars! Speed, and going fast does not mean anything if you love either car because theres ALWAYS going to be someone faster than you. Buy what you like not based on speed and HP.
Exactly
Lol
Another good one Sam👍
For 20k $ more. i was expecting much more from the Acura. Or it is the K5 that is a beast. Add AWD and the K5 would be as fast than the Acura...
They have an awd k5
@@ronhemi6461 1.6t...not the same car.
All that money went to the handling. I heard it handles very well for such a pig.
Amazing what power to weight does. The GTs engine is underrated too. They dyno about 285whp.
And 324wtq. Beast of a car.
@@george.giannop just hope it stands the test of time. I really want it to
@@zacharycropper5532 👍👍 I'm sure it will.
Yes your right and since the type s is awd it loses more power to the drive train. There some youtube videos b showing it puts put 280 awhp so like the same as the k5 but it's puting it out to all wheels not just front wheel. Plus it's a 700lbs difference so there's no surprise here
Great vid as always keep them coming!!!
17 speakers with heavy magnets are not helpful for the best 1/4 mile times, but sure make the car a lot more enjoyable to drive. Type S gets the win for the best music system!
I absolutely love that dramatic electronic music playing during stats! 🔊🔉🎛🎧
Seems like the value of a car now a days is measured based on how fast it goes lol
😂😂 this Kia giving a “luxury” sports model a run for its money . lol Acura continues to embarrass its fanboys
Acura Engineer: Wait, that wasn't supposed to happen....
Want to see K5 GT vs Elantra N please
Acura heavily detuned the car, BUT the good thing is the trans is beefed up and the engine has forged internals ready for when the ecu is cracked for more boost.
I've been waiting to see the Type S tuned before I write it off.. Hondas are always night and day from stock to custom tuned
yea lotta people disappointed by this car's stock performance, however a tune would wake it right up. stock power of this thing aint even close to its potential.
handling feel is great but performance is also limited by its weight. idek how acura even got that thing up to 4200 pounds. when u close the doors of the thing, they sound solid af, so acura prolly wanted a much more premium feel. problem is it's a sports sedan and they marketed it as so. most likely there are gonna be a lot of unnecessary parts to strip out of the car, but that might be an awful lot of work unfortunately.
Shouldn’t have to time a car from the factory in order to make it complete. What happens when the competition does the same mods? There are already modded Stingers that are complete monsters.
Congrats on the growth of the channel
Thank you!
So the K5 comes and not only dethrones the Accord, then it beats the TLX, and then further proceeds to beat the TYPE S 😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
Accept then it explodes because we all know how well Kia makes engines 😅
Nice. Glad my predictions were accurate.
Not to burst your bubble.. but my 2012 kia optima sx will out perform the 3.2 type S. I raced them before.
No it wouldn’t.
@@2R1V3R what does your comment have to do with mine? I was talking to the original commenter not you haha
It’s almost criminal that these high powered Kia/Hyundai don’t have htrac
At that point you just have the Stinger GT-line.
Sam, Acura is over price and too heavy under power, I'll take Kia 20,000. cheaper.
Such an amazing race! Only The best drag races on this channel. Thank you! This makes the GTI tuned vs K5 very interesting now
I want a tlx type-s.The car is perfect,a bit heavy but overall perfect for daily driving.
The turbo on the Kia really helps when the motor is revved up like on a rolling race.
I’m pretty sure they are both turbo, the K5 just doesn’t have AWD.
That Acura is pretty nice looking 👌🏼
Predictable outcome from a dig. But that roll race was everything! That K5 is a beast. Maybe they'll give the GT AWD for 2023 now that the Stinger is getting discontinued.
I don't care if any Korean car runs 9's off the showroom floor. I don't like their styling and never have. Give me the sexy Type S anyday!
When Acura is being compared to Kia just let’s me know that Acura still hasn’t made it after all of these years!!!
Acura please step up your game!!
I have a 2017 SXL Turbo. I was wanting to trade it in for a Type S TLX... but iunno now.
Man I feel bad for type s, it had light weight wheels and exhaust and still lost in the roll..🥺
Straight pipe doesnt add horsepower if it does its insignificant
Exhaust doesn't do shit unless a tune takes advantage of it. And even then it ain't much.
It's only 6lbs lighter...
Cat back doesn't do anything meaningful without a tune
@@2010ngojo you people are car guys? Yall have any idea how much of a difference unsprung weight makes? Why you think this type s looks so much more faster than the previous ones that were huh? It's because it has less unsprung weight and straight pipe gains you at least 10 extra hp in turbo cars...you guy's ain't know anything about cars, this type s is significantly faster than all the other type s here and it's because of the lighter wheels and straight pipes.
Liked the Ariel view of the race and the side view towards the end of the race. Great work!! 👍👍👍
@@paulbeasley1784 310 to the wheels seems pretty high. Typically all wheel cars have a 20 percent loss to the wheels. But that Type- S is a beauty!
I have a K5GT simce 21 with zero issues. Best bang for the buck. If i was in the market for a car today, i would definitely look at the acura tlx type s. Great looking car and overall great features and performance. Just because it does do the 1/4 mile in the 12s doesnt mean its a shit car. I say its well balanced.
Type S getting destroyed in the comments😂😂😂😂 as it should tho. I hope Acura sees this and realizes there “precision crafted performance” marketing BS is just that it’s BS……but the Acura fanboys will still defend it/putchase it to the death. Shit it could have faced a Prius in the dig and they would be so hype like “yea we gapped that Prius”!!😂😂😂🤦🏻♂️
The Acura fanboys are all in these comments fighting tooth and nail defending this embarrassing performance.
They haven't learned, see the integra? Ouch
I love my Kia k5 GT. Its a beast!
Insane that k5 GT
I personally have never owned Honda/Acura I just KNOW that there are brand/badge whores lol
Personally, I much rather get the Genesis 3.3tt over the Type S ANYDAY!!! Just as nice but better performance WITH TWIN TURBOS. Heck , even the Stinger, though I do hear the Genesis handles/rides better than the Stinger.
Lmfao…exact;y…excuses galore. Acura got spanked by a damn Kia
thanks Sam!
I wonder what makes the TLX so heavy that it weighs more than a RDX AWD and almost the same weight as a full size FWD MDX.
Love Acura, but the biggest letdown with the TLX is its weight. If it weighed around 300lbs less it would be even more nimble
Power to weight ratio and bang for the buck the Kia shines. No match for the awd out the dig. Acura well over 2 tons! Great comparison of numbers, shows. Thanks Sam.
Type S sounds awesome. Let's hope with some tuning that the 3.0 can make some good power.
Still too heavy and too expensive. Plus it should be quick when you buy it. Why should you have to tune it already.

At least you are being honest. I agree, the Acura is a huge embarrassment. Beaten by a Kia gt. I mist say I now love this Korean brand. Come a long way
I would love to see the q60 3.0t (300hp) against the kia gt or the sonata N line!!! 290hp vs 300hp

There's no way that K5 is 290 HP !!! Sounds like BMW move to me
282whp and 324wtq stock on the dyno.
