The TLX Type S is one of the best looking sedans. It's severely underrated. The only sedan that I think looks timeless is the 3generation TL, especially in the Type S.
My thoughts exactly
Not the Slap Chop beak TL… The older one, right? 😅
Yup! Still driving one.
Yes, the 3rd generation was 2004-2008. You're thinking of the 2009-2014.@@IdrisFashan
Not that underrated…the íntegras at least have touch screen units…the track pad is not useful when using android auto or Apple CarPlay
Acura really needed to bump the hp on this car. The 4 cylinder Integra Type S makes 320 and the V6 TlX makes 355. It needs to make at least 400.
I’d like to see both on a dyno. With drivetrain losses, I bet the Integra puts more to the wheels.
I suspect the Integra is already tuned to edge of what the engine can take, while the TLX can likely give another 80 hp with the right intake\exhaust combo and a good tune
It has plenty of horsepower for daily driving
@@Cloud30000 It's the same engine as the FL5 Type R, FL8 Type R, RDX, and thr Accord 2.0t. People have already put the K20C1 and C4 at 500 wheel with ease
@@Cgee3you would be 100% correct
Surprised the TLX-S did so well, especially in the rolling race against the Mustang.
Acura at 4200lbs is more than expected. Good looking car for sure.
Disappointing as Acura used to focus on lightweight.
It definitely puts the damper on the HP wars. As the power goes up, so does, it seems, the weight. To the point where the increased power often ends up a complete wash, especially if, god forbid, you have to turn.
Acura is the fat guy in nice running shoes at a race. Gets beat every time by his competitors
The TLX Type-S is the best looking modern sedan by far. But it’s SEVERELY underpowered at 60k. Knowing Honda, I’m sure it’s a reliability play, but they should have added more power with it’s weight.
Or just less weight
Acura TLX really a solid car i quite like it .
Own a 2021 tlx type s. Its plenty fast for me and sounds great. Heavy car with the awd system makes it drive great in bad weather conditions and putting it in comfort mode makes it drive like a higher end luxury car.
It is not remotely anywhere near "fast".
@@nickvin7447 Yes it is
@@nickvin7447 Faster than a 1980 lambo countach.
@@GoFast58 no, it isn't.
@@GoFast58 So is a Civic si. What is your point?
I had another rare Acura: The CL 3.0. I only got rid of it because I couldn't get parts to fix the ignition/transmission interlink. I also had the local dealer try to charge me a diagnostic charge for a recall. That sealed its fate.
I love the look of those.
Sad to see Acura keep failing. It’s no wonder everyone moved to German cars.
"Im not losing this time, Dad!" Also me when i played basketball with my dad when i was 10 😂
Now run the new Acura against the new Mustang
They've just bought the new Mustang, so it hasn't been broken in yet. I'm sure they'll do a drag race with the new Mustang after it has been broken in.
at the time of this filming they probably had not purchased it yet
That 4th Gen coyote makes like 480 hp. It’ll smoke the Acura
I predict the new Mustang at elevation will get low 13's at 113 mph. Not even close.
@@302Mustang13 Lmfao dude it’ll do better than that. Also they got the 10 speed which is faster than the old 6 speed
😢Tlx should be 400 hp and less heavy, which idont see coming, and more interior space. It has size of bmw 5 series but 3 series interior size
Damn the Acura out here with a slower 1/4mi time than a gti with the dsg……. Yikes that thing is about 800lbs too heavy
I am an Acura fan, and drive a 2008 TL Type-S. I was hoping Acura would do more with this current-gen TLX, but it's still lagging behind the industry, especially at this price point.
Sad how badly they fell down the ladder. I don’t see them ever coming back with an ultra high performance sedan. Problem is their parts can’t handle it.
They should have went German ZF transmission. The 10 speed is bad for high performance.
How about a 500 mile race with the Acura and Tesla
Ricky Bobby " If you ain't 1st yer LAST!".
This just shows how slow the beautiful tlx type s is. So sad
Its not that you race old and new. Its that you do the roll race with 1 car in its most advantageous gear and 1 car in its least and wait for kick down. 99mph vs 105mph trap speed tells the whole story.
Yeah, it's annoying watching them start these roll races in overdrive, as if you would ever do anything like that in a real roll race or in a manual transmission.
Both the Mustang and the TLX were left in sport mode automatic. That’s pretty apples to apples if you ask me
@@TFLcar the point of old vs new isn't apples to apples and I'll bet a lot of viewers would rather see the mustang start from a lower gear without kick down. Or do it both ways. We all know a 6r80, from 2005 is slow to kickdown, thats not what most want to see.
@@TFLcar Not when there's such a wide variance in sport modes between vehicles, esp. older ones like the Mustang. Apples to apples would be starting the roll race in a proper gear where RPMs are higher, then switching to automatic, like anyone realistically would when racing.
@@TheNotimprezed There's a point to both comparisons, though. How a car reacts from rolling along like normal to full throttle is a relevant benchmark. The performance of the whole power train matters, not just the engine.
Integra type s with electric AWD drive adding 100 ho and tq even with 300 more pounds would be awesome
Owner of a 2012 Acura TSX Wagon and digging this video.
Hello Chad. Nice car btw.
You forgot to engage sport transmission by clicking drive a second time to engage S shift. It makes a difference.
He specifically said he did
@@BrandenBlackford lmfao, well then... My bad
@@vman1320 yeah I wrote the same thing and he instantly said it after the race and I felt bad lol
So put the tlx type s on Sport+, and set your transmission to sport mode. Step on brake and press on gas to activate launch mode.
I like watching these videos since you are at high elevation i can see how my Golf compares to new cars coming out at similar elevation. Im at 6000 feet and my GTI is still 9 mph faster than that Acura and 3 mph faster than the Mustang lol
Shame the Acura weights more than a dual motor Model 3 for no reason.
shame ford never put the coyote in a rwd sedan. would sell like hot cakes
Gotta import a Falcon if you want one of those.
Sell to who? Grandparents?
@@mikehughes8023 did only grandparents buy Pontiac G8, Cadillac CTS V or Dodge Charger Hellcat?
@@mikehughes8023 bad take friend
@mikehughes8023 If Charger hellcats sell I am certain these will too 😅
The Integra type S and the tlx type S have identical quarter miles. Tlx is too heavy for its own good
Imagine buying a 6 second 0-60 car after beating it off for 10 minutes, only to get your cheeks clapped by a golf cart making fart noises in the speakers.
😮
After beating what off?!🤨
Why are people saying 0-60 in 4.6 seconds is slow.. In a luxury car made to be a comfy cruiser. Price doesn't just mean horsepower and speed. Not a single other car has torque vectoring the same as the Acura, or similar comfort features for the same price.
My 2020 pp1 5.0 would kill that type S but I would love to have that type S as a 2nd car it’s gorgeous.
Acura needs to get a B58 engine and ZF8 transmission and make their own version of that.
Acura needs to lose 600 lbs.
TLX should use stab control ON, sequential trans mode along with sport plus and launch control…
🥰 💞 I love seeing father, and son enjoying life together and having fun.
I regret selling my 1998 Acura TL 3.2 V6. Sold it because I was tired of it in my driveway during Covid, regretted it since .
Maybe you have a reason to upgrade to a later 2-gen Type-S. I've been driving one (well, it's actually a JDM Honda Inspire, but for all intents and purposes it's a 2-gen TL) for the better part of 8 years now, but it's an awesome thing. The transmissions are a bit fragile, but the J32A2 motor is a gem. And it's just a nice car overall.
Oooh. It’s at elevation.. explains why the turbo helped so much
I like that old kind of rock and roll.
Integra GSR or RSX type S vs 5.0 Foxbody.
Last time I drag race a Model 3 (dual motor), it was poring rain and I punk'd him in last 2 lights, so he's ready for blood. Light changes, he rockets out, while I'm stuck controlling wheel spin in 1st gear and short shift into 2nd. At the top of 2nd gear, he looks up at his rear view mirror, but instead, his jaw drops when I'm looking back at him from the driver side window. Elantra N.
I wouldn't call the Acura high performance but nice sedan yes cause it gets smoked by all the cars in it's segment
Like the M3, the C63 and the RS5?
Watch some other videos of it racing, it had trouble with a K5 GT.
arent those like 100k cars new?@SkippyPB.
@@SkippyPB.M340 is its competition. M340 kills it in every category. Tune it and it’s a 10 second daily driver with ease.
Acura TLX S has no tuning capabilities.
@@SkippyPB.M3 and RS5 are in a different class way above it. Those are true performance sedans with extremely high limits. Plus they have tuning capabilities that take it to even higher limits.
TLX S is a 4 on a 1-10 scale. M340 is 7. M3 and RS5 are 10.
Funny to think that a 2024 TLX -S runs about the same 1/4 mile and mph as a 1998 Camaro Z28.
Why are the times almost a second an a half slow.. especially on the Acura
Which may as well be an automatic (paddle shift.. so hard to press paddle at right time)
Should of brought the bmw m340 would be more interesting
Can I get my 2019 Chevy Camaro featured on one of these .
So the Acura stickers at around twice the sticker of the mustang, and the Mustang still reels it in. The TLX is a nice looking car, though. Interior definitely looks better, quality-wise.
Is this acura allwheel drive for it need to make minimum 400 or 420 hp sure need tune thanks for the beautiful drag❤
Anyone else a lot less interested in pure acceleration in a straight line?
@@layne4376yeah it actually handles quite well despite its weight. It has better lap times than a Golf R on Throttle House's video awhile back
funny those acura seats look like they're more at home in the mustang
Acura looks great. But is underpowered. Should have 400hp to compete
Ktuner get you right there $500
@@Superdimensional the tlx doesn’t have a k series motor so that’s incorrect
@@SuperdimensionalYou can’t tune these. Acura locked them down. Plus the heads have tiny ports. Expect to pay 20k plus to gain 100 more HP. Then the transmission will blow. That’s why you don’t see any modded.
Take a shot every time Acura dude says dad
I love the dad son dynamic.
I think I would daily drive the TLX in that Sport S mode.
If you like getting 12mpg
Yea I do with mine and it’s killing my pockets…with it!
I get 18 mpg in socal
Acura recommends not driving it in that mode constantly. The 10 speeds are not that stout.
pops had to get that street cred back and use the tesla lmaoo hahah
That video depresses me. I'm looking to trade my "13 Audi S6 (tuned) in on an Acura type S. My S6 will beat a model 3 performance, but now I ask myself do I want to backpedal to such a slow car? The Type S is such a beautiful car, especially the interior.
Assuming you’re s6 isn’t stock cause I smoke then in a model 3 with accel boost in the quarter
@@semimac8072 It isn't, but only a stage 1 tune. Nothing extravagant like new turbos or downpipes.
@@semimac8072 Did a bit of research. From what I've found 3 performance with accel boost is running 11.7-11.8 which is what I run. I've also found if the battery is down even 10% it cuts down a little, down 30% really hurts performance. I've had the opportunity to go up against 2 P85d's and a Y. one 85 pulled about 5 feet on my through 100 and the other 2 were dead even.
I've never actually had mine on the strip, just going by what others have gotten by same tune (one guy got an 11.5 with same tune). What times have you gotten by actual drag strip run time?
@@datsuntoyy your research is right on. Best I got was 11.6 with a 0 to 60 of 3.4. A performance can run and 11.3 with a 0 60 of 3 seconds flat. I ran that at a state of charge being 68 percent so don’t pay too much attention to charge
I’ve put 13k on my type s. It’s a great car and I love it. It may not be the fastest but it was de tuned to pass emissions. A simple tune is pushing 400 to the wheels and they still haven’t cracked the ecu. If all you’re looking for is performance get a bmw or Audi. Acura will be cheaper to maintain and last longer. I’d never own a bmw or Audi without a warranty
When Acura moves to a rear or all wheel drive platform I’ll give them some more legitimacy. They do produce some handsome looking cars these days though
8 speeds are bad enough, but a 10 speed? I love my car shifting gears CONSTANTLY! Nothing going to break there!
the 10 speed auto is actually reliable lmao it mostly sits in 8-10th gear on freeways and you can still cruise at 70mph 10th gear
these Acura's are getting so much hype and im not sure why? im not a big car guy but to see a top of the line Acura AWD TLX barley beat a 5.0 V8 mustang- not sure the year maybe a 2012...its crazy to me. They are so happy to kill the V8 but they are barley able to beat it.
the Acura is beautiful... but ill keep my low 12 second Q50 (tuned) that costs less then half. Are you guys getting the cars up to operating temp before racing ? i expected the acura to be faster then 14.36@100mph -- my Q50 doesnt give you full boost until the engine is warm.
This track is a mile above sea.
As soon as I saw AWD on the Acura I knew what was up…
If Tommy doesn't do Seinfeld impressions on the side, he needs to start.
Mustang GT
Ehh it looks pretty sharp but it’s performance is mediocre at best. A sonata Nline is faster in a rolling race against the Type S TLX…
This must be old video. I watched a video last week where Roman traded in the red mustang for a new blue one.
That TLX looks beautiful 😍. It made the mustang look like a ford escort
My 13’ Boss 302 will crush any Acura.
The mustang brings its styling cues from 60s mustang, sooo.......
@@jasonlommen4769 not on a track lol
@@ohsnapzitzmeng
The Boss was built for the track!
Good video 👍🏻.Yeah I’ll still take the older mustang with a coyote over both those cars and then modify it to eat both of those cars by a massive margin for less than it cost for the initial price of the others while sounding much better having more fun than both of those can ever provide.
He didn't use the launch control on the TLX
All 3 cars are garbage. I'd rather take the bus or walk. If I absolutely had to choose, I'd take the Mustang. Acuras are just worse than a Mustang in terms of dealership experience and cost to own. They don't publish the real costs of Acura because Acura likes to cover it up (once they work out the bugs after a few years of ownership, great used car). The Mustang, at least, you know to expect issues with it. The Model3 is bad for the environment (environmental degradation they call it), very unreliable, higher cost to own than the other two, and then you have to deal with all that extra weight, range anxiety, slow refill times, and then HUGE depreciation because its $20k for a battery and no one wants them in the 2nd hand market.
Acura tlx over any electric car any day.
Braking handling track sound luxury ease of use resale service modding insurance looks tactile controls

High altitude makes a difference from F/I and N/A
Sandbag the mustang we get it. Real world 5.0 is faster everywhere except wet.
What in the hell does that even mean? 😂😂 This is a real 5.0 ,stop crying
@@TheBb6prelude It means intentionally bagging the performance to highlight the other car you are being motivated to promote. Don't know what you mean by a real 5.0 and don't care. Making a comment is not crying and illustrates more about your personal maturity level.
@@GettingthruLife that's crazy if you think the gen1 coyote wasn't driven to the maximum potential. That doesn't even make sense. The Acura is just newer and more advanced.
@@GettingthruLife why would you even think they are sand bagging the mustang? That's insane. They're not even that fast to begin with.
@TheBb6prelude Simple by watching the video and paying attention. It was painfully obvious, and im not at all invested in a Ford prodct. The way they chose to edit, select clips, transition, the things they said, paraphrasing, the last Honda model we had was a little lackluster but we brought this one to to show this car in a better light, cough, cough. Also, allowing a car to down shift per auto trans rather than being in the right low gear at the punch will dramatically affect results. Then there is,the effect of acceleration/body movement inside the car. I'm not a "fan boy" of any vehicle brand but I do like to see authentic results based off real data. Only the TFL crew knows the intent/goal of that day but they make their living/livelihood from certain results. That's just a fact of getting free stuff, loners, getting flown across the world, put up in hotels and getting to highlight vehicles early.
Curious if the JB4 tune on the Acura make a difference
Huge difference
Very little, watch the Sam CarLegion race with a 'tuned' type S and full exhaust swap. Still gets beat bad.
Not really. Problem is the heads. They have small ports and small turbo. Acura did that to give best performance at a low RPM. Unfortunately it’s maxed out at 355 hp.
If you want more power, plan on spending 25k on ported heads, manifold, turbo, etc to make over 400hp.
Then the transmission is now the weak link. It’s not able to handle that much power. That’s why Honda dialed it back. To protect it from blowing.
Acura even warns about driving in Splus mode for long time.
It’s just a quick daily driver that handles great. Don’t expect more power.
@@ryanb8736 so much misinformation here lol. There are many guys making quite a bit more than 400hp without spending $25k and are doing so very reliably. The motor is not maxed out at 355hp.
@@drivescene6747 Ya ok, point to one. Also like I said there is a video showing a jb4 tuned car with a new exhaust and its still slow. So what are these other guys doing to get the hp #'s up , maybe a turbo swap if there is one for the car..
Yall chose am old mustang to give the opponent a chance 😂
Too bad you traded in the Mustang. Although, I'm looking forward to the vidoes on the new one, maybe another race against the TLX for comparison sake.
Not going to lie it sucks to see how bad elevation f's up a 1/4 mile
You didn’t launch the tlx correctly. It would have smoked that car if you loaded up the boost
Is this air strip accessible to public?
The TLX is a very nice car - but really expensive! $60k. If you saw one, you’d think it was a $35-40k car. The old TL’s were in the mid $30k’s (2010 or so).
Next compare the fit and finish of the Tesla to, well, anything.
TLX TYPE S VS INTEGRA TYPE S just cause 😅 then not of those vs 2013 Acura TL AWD
…and the Acura won’t spin out into a crowd of onlookers, so there’s that.
TLX types? now, How much is a BMW 3 series?
Now race at sea level, or put a blower on the mustang, and you will still have less in it than the acura costs.
I get ya but speed isn’t necessarily a number one priority for everyone.
I’ll race my 2019 GT with 460HP 10 speed auto 3.55 gears.
My volvo s60 t60 2015 with the inline 6 3.0t awd i do the 1/4mile in 13.37 i have 300hp and 325torque
I have the same thing, but 2012 T6 and they do go sub 14 seconds... But you have a newer awd system Haldex 5 versus 4 for me
FYI, you can get the Polestar tune from your local Volvo dealership for around $1400...raises to 325/350
OTD after TTL, its closer to 62K.
Lol you have awd and a turbo.... That's cute. You're racing against the gen that is the best for drag racing. S197s are also lighter than the new gens... and have a solid live axle making it a drivers race in a straight line even for brand new 4th gen coyotes.
The new mustang will blow the doors off that Honda. When you do start racing the new Mustang make sure you use the drag race mode in settings.
Even the s550 with 10 speed will still smoke the acura
Yeah, but it still loses in the end because it's a ford
I watch videos like this just in case some cocky TLX owner wants to run my gen. 3 5.0.
TLX is not fast. If you want a fast sedan to blow away mustangs on the road, get a BMW M340 or even better an Audi RS3. Those are easy 10 second cars with mild bolt ons.

Truly impressed with Acura
Not gonna lie that Acura looks like a good 4 door version of a mustang. Somebody needs to coyote swap it and make it rwd
