  • In this, episode 46 of PowerTec 10, DV goes into detail on porting Chrysler’s 2.2 liter 2 valve per cylinder heads. Though they are only average in stock form they can be made to deliver a considerable amount of extra power without necessarily adding significant boost thus enhancing reliability as well as power output

    Hi David, my first porting job was of a stock 1974 Chrysler Avenger back in 1981. I copied the dimensions from a Tiger head a friend of mine had. It had a “3/4” race cam and twin side draft Mikuni 40mm carburetors with chrome trumpets. What a beautiful sound. Thanks for the memories. Please try a Toyota 3SGTE for your next 4-valve porting series. I’ve done a few of these and would like to compare notes.
    🙇🏾‍♂️

    It's been so long since I've seen the 2.2 Turbo. That's a peppy engine, from the economy era of the 80s, that is an interesting project idea. 🤔🤔🤔

    Funny thing. I was running copper water lines in new houses when I was 13 years old! Dad would have beat me if I ran anything that looked like that port! Well he would have made me fix it at least.

    Hello David, first I will send my best wishes to have a great 2023. I always liked your technics and the way how you teach us, I tried to find episode 45, to know more about the Inlet and Exhaust ratio, but I found this; David Vizard's PowerTec 10 EP 45 Crank Journal Polish = + 20 HP? . Is it in an other episode of yours? Thank you so much for doing these videos, I would like to know more about turbo engines mods.

    The FAIT 600, 850, 127, Autobiachi A112 (Abarth), Uno, Cinquecento and Seicento al have bathtub shaped combustion chambers.
    I always wondered how to prepare the chambers. But this and the second part helped me out quit a bit. Not all. But more will probable come.
    The nasty thing of the above mentioned heads is that they have an intergrated inlet manifold inside the head. Yep, true. And bad. So a mold can be made but will never come out in one piece. Simply because the space inside is bigger then the openings on both intake and valve seat sides. A perfect bowl is also impossible to grind due to the big space inside.
    And so the only side which comes close in performing David avizard a tricks is on the exhaust side. ...but may be I'm wrong and do not see what others (you) have already seen?

    Wow, those are some weird shaped ports. My only experience porting is with a l-series Datsun, the exhausts needed some touching up but I pretty much left the intakes alone.

    Another great video can't wait to see the end results. I'm sorry to put it out there every time I watch your videos for years as you post a picture of your daughter you really is me. I have a lot of kids a lot of daughters and and my oldest daughter will be 24 in January and she has a lot of mental problems especially with people she was raised around in and friends because she's not like them. Saying she's more normal and they want to take her to the other sides. So every time I see your daughter in that picture I think and do whatever I could do to help my own out. Sorry to go on a rant but I understand my youngest just turned eight and she's awesome just like your daughter was on my daughters are awesome but the things we have to put up with now and the stress and what people do against people is terrible. I just want to thank you for what you do to help people out with knowledge You're amazing man and one day I will go to your class I've been trying for years just a lot of surgeries.

      I know, I’ve 3D scanned, modeled made a finite element model of Volvo B20, and OMG what a horrid exhaust port. Working on a B230FT head now and indeed what were thinking with those L shaped intake and exhaust ports, it’s like a straight 90 degree bend .

    • @iansmith6728
      @iansmith6728 Рік тому +1

      @@AndySomogyi at least the B20 port can be filled with bronze and the inlet made with a good shape. That bathtub bowl adds to the misery.

    • @AndySomogyi
      @AndySomogyi Рік тому

      @@iansmith6728 yup. Interesting thing is if you look at a Porsche 944 head, it’s the same single came, valves in-line style, so it can’t cost any more to produce. But the 944 has an ideal wedge combustion chamber and almost perfect port design.
      I’ll bet manufacturing costs on the 944 and Volvo B230 heads are identical

    I've heard David saying that wedge chambers are superior several times. I'm wondering if he has a detailed explanation for it being better or if it is more based on empirical evidence.

    • @theshed8802
      @theshed8802 Рік тому +2

      With David, it won't be his opinion, it will be empirical evidence. Bath tub chambers suffer badly from valve shrouding, and the wedge chamber has much better mixture distribution as a result of the quench action driving the mixture towards the spark plug.

    Richard do you think oversize valves would help this 2.2 turbo head? Looks like the intake valve is already greatly shrouded in the chamber, but the exhaust valve area has room for growth, what does the master say?

It'll have to likely be one of project on my part but I have done a few of these kits make them easier. But it can all be fabbed up. I may just move it into a hydrogen run platform that way it will pass all emission requirements. Without being a problem see how our country has changed in the last fifteen years. Can't do anything without a stamp. 😗👍

      There were/are(?) companies that ceramic coated headers, inside and out as I remember. Also, some manufacturers are integrating the exhaust manifold into the head. Maybe they have a way where the heat can be kept from transferring through the surface of the exhaust port, maybe an alloy that resists heat transfer?
