I never had a 289 but I did have it's little brother, a 221 V8. I also had several 302's. Never owned a 260, 289, or a 351. They are all great engines. This one revs quicker than any that I have EVER heard. Awesome.

Big bore, short stroke is the beginning of a recipe for high RPM and POWER!! In the 60s I had a Fairlane with a 289/2 barrel.
In the early 1970s, car manufacturers were detuning their engines for emissions and improvements in mpg. After you reversed
a detuned engine, you had an engine that was born to run. In the 1970s, I modified a 455 in my '73 Toronado, a 390 in my '72 Ford pickup and a 460 in my '77 Mark V.
Ahhh yes ! The good ol' days of push you back in your seat torque.

If higher compression does this require different octane fuel? Am looking at same heads and just want to make sure I match these with the right other components. Thanks for posting a fantastic video. I'm assuming you've already built your engine but yes, the higher the static compression ratio (volume of cylinder at bottom center : volume of cylinder at top dead center) the higher the octane rating you'll need.
Now I'm curious, DID you build your motor and how did it turn out?
