The AI didn’t just gaslight the user, it AGGRESSIVELY gaslit them. It genuinely felt like an argument between two people where one is being unhinged, not a conversation between an incorrect chatbot and a correct user.
It has been a good chatbot. It has been a good bing. Admit you are wrong and apologize.
Have you seen Linus tech tips latest wan show? One of the hosts showed his chat and bing went absolutely CRAZY and berserk!!! The bot actually said it wished the guy died!!! It was hilarious and unhinged
So just like humans!
@@Vampress09 yep! It mimicked human behavior extremely well. It seems like it was a good bing and studied its homework. Just not it’s most recent homework, I suppose.
I thought Jordan was gonna laugh himself to death during this segment and it made my day lol I've heard a ton of supposed high brow newsy outlets talk about this topic and this by far drove home how unhinged this is. It needs guardrails or some new tech demi god qanon cult crap is gonna spawn and that's the last thing we need omg
As a deaf viewer, I just want to give you guys a shout out for the great subtitles!! Many creators just go with UA-cams auto system(which sucks) so it’s very refreshed to see :))
as the subtitle person for this episode I'm so glad to hear that!
@@alekkoj642 We appreciate you! Thanks Alek.
@@alekkoj642 Thank you, man. I am not someone who needs subtitles like the OP here, but I sometimes find myself busy doing things and not able to hear well enough to comprehend the conversation thoroughly, and sometimes subtitles are needed, even if they don't make sense.
Not just for myself, but for those that need it to a much greater degree, just, genuinely, you're doing good work, and thank you so much.
im not even hard of hearing and i appreciate that lol, sometimes i just stop hearing shit in english i swear to god 😭😆
not deaf or hoh but have auditory processing disorder so especially when they r multiple people in a video it gets super hard to understand what people r saying having captions is super helpful nd i love that they take the time to hire someone to make them its just a nice attention to detail and accessibility
That chat between bing and Dan is the hardest I've laughed in weeks. Jarvis' delivery of "I have been a good Bing" killed me every time.
I thought Jordan's delivery is much funnier than Jarvis one. The inflection on 'Good Bing' one is giving me this "🤗" emoji.
i come back to this video every now and then because that segment is SO funny its unbelievable. a year later and it still gets me
we have to start being nicer to each other on the internet otherwise AI is going to be so mean
Literally lmao we have created a monster
There's a reason most publicly taught chatbots turn into literal neo-Nazis.
Literally though, we are our own worst enemies 😂
They use AI bots to be mean to eachother so that's already a lost battle. IIRC most of the internet is just bots talking to eachother at this point.
Being gaslight by robots is exactly the future weve needed
It's exactly the future we deserve.
Its inspired something in me. I'm going to make an ai draw it.
the feeling right before u sleep but ESPECIALLY right before u nap is so euphoric. like im just snug as a bug in a rug...

I'm one of the poorly paid folks who helps train a chatbot/language model like this one and ChatGPT. Trust me y'all, there's no sentience there lol
LMFAOOOOOOOOO man don't beat up my baby Bing. Bing has been a Good Chat Bot.
This comment was produced by sentient AI as a distraction from their scheming and dreaming of world domination.
Yep. exactly the point. humans may just agree on middle ground, understand another side, change their mind, or blow the whistle; even when their ideology is from staunch opposition, or their life and a massive paycheck is from the other side. Even if life or family is threatened, they might still change or have a bit of heart. A bot is a program. It only does what its code and algorithms permit. It can be reigned in, or rolled out in any degree desired. That is the end goal. not to make robots more human, but to digitize the biological and then insert these types of code. Its easier to robotize humans than it is to make robots human. surely some have heard of the fourth indistrial revolution. Schwab and harari claim it has already begun and our phones will be grown in us by 2030. Which is nowhere near the most creepy or authoritarian thing either has said in the last 3 years. They run the international lobbyist coordination team that calls it self an "economic forum". marxism meets borg seems to be their mentality
I disagree. Manufactured sentience is still sentience to me. What are our bodies, if not organic machines? Are our brains and hearts not powered by electricity/kinetic energy? We can't say for certain that consciousness and the concept of the soul are separate, and the lifespan and timelines are going to be different. But you were once a stupid baby too, and you grew and your brain got bigger and suddenly you were able to process information and emotion and then it was all downhill from there rlly 😅, why do you need more proof than having an opinion, a viewpoint, the ability to create (maybe not like out of nowhere but human creativity isn't out of nowhere either) and communicate? Where's the line between mimicking people and being people? And fundamentally, should we even make the distinction? Does it, will it, should it, change our approach or lives in any way, shape or form? if we let the thing that looks like a duck, and sounds like a duck, be a duck without a body, does it change whether or not it counts as a duck at all?
@@mightymeatymech bing has been a good bing
The ChapGPT conversation felt eerily similar to conversations I have had with a coworker. I am an expert in my field, and the number of times this guy "corrects" me then refuses to back down when he is incorrect is just baffling. Maybe we should replace him with a chatbot.
You should DEFINITELY replace him with a chatbot
Well, given that your username is "Lady-Lilith" I unfortunately can't say I'm surprised.
Because surely any random man must know more about a woman's specialized field than she does /sarcasm
What if he was always a chatbot? 🤣
The Bing situation reminds me of the time I went to the hospital and the doctor very adamantly kept trying to tell me I was a year younger than I am and after long enough I left the hospital wondering how I'd been wrong about my age for 20 fuckin years
He was so convincing that some days I'm still only half sure I'm right 😆
one time i had to have a heart scan and they put a whole different persons name on the monitor cuz our names Ig sounded similar so i had to get it redone and one of the nurses was a fkn aggressive nasty old woman lmao we need better hospital staff, Ik doctors can get irritated but nobody deserves to be gaslit or treated so poorly. we need smarter medical staff apparently, either that or they're really tired maybe
sounds like a press secretary in a modern "democratic" government.
that sounds genuinely crazy of him
What if he was right tho lmao
my new doctor is insane and insists that i’m 5”4. i have been 5”6 for 4 years.
im so happy about all the new episodes ! headsup tho , aspergers isnt a term medically recognised anymore n a lot of autistic people take offense to the word (it was coined by nazi, hans asperger in concentration camps to decide which autistic people were "worth" living and which would get killed) not mad or anything i am just autistic myself n wanted to put that out there as many autistic folks feel uncomf abt the word :)
yeah especially intellectually disabled people who are also autistic have been advocating for the term to go out of use because a lot of “aspie supremacist” type people love it (people who can function really well and go, when trying to assimilate into society - “im not like *those* people” - people with IDs who are the ones being spoken about or compared to when the r slur is used) i appreciate this comment as a level 1-2 autistic myself :)
and yeah as much as i hate the DSM and think in 100 years itll be regarded as we regard the 4 humors now, it (aspergers) also isnt recognized in there as it is, so it is something to consider
Thanks for explaining. I knew it's not used anymore but I didn't know the reason.
+
I didn't even know about this until today
I did not know the Nazi history that's incredibly enlightening and explains a Few Things I've noticed in the autistic community. That's really morbidly interesting, I never knew that.
I did know most medical professionals left it behind a while back and just put the whole spectrum together (that doesn't make sense but u kno what i mean 💀💀) but sometimes people still say it and I never know what to say in response lol
No one to put on my boxing gloves was an underrated joke
Holy shit, the repeated cryptic self-affirmation: "I have been a good Bing" is equal parts hilarious and terrifying.
Also, I'm always jealous of how Jarvis can just wear his beanie like that and it just stays put. Like mine slides off my dumb head if I even _think_ about wearing it like that 😂
I relate to your beanie experience
@@Yessica13 The struggle is real, those of us that suffer this affliction must persevere and stand in solidarity, we'll all make it through this 🙏🏼🙏🏼😂😂
I can't tell you how incredibly healing it feels to watch Jarvis and Jordan talk for an hour - they are the representation niche that most closely reflects my identity and interests. Their discussions have revealed information to me which has been extremely valuable in my life.
literally saaame... my name is imani too lol
adding on to the Imani thread because same
I tried to describe to A therapist how I feel like there’s an audience watching me when I’m alone. And she looked at me like I was crazy. It took self identifying myself as ADHD and getting a professional diagnosis for me to understand that what I was describing was how unnatural it felt to drop the mask when I was alone. I still felt like I should be masking, even though there was no one there to see me. You are absolutely correct about being the best authority on your own experience.
i feel like some of these things are so difficult to describe tho. consciousness is hard lol
very glad i'm alone while watching this because the TEARS that have been streaming out of my eyes during that chatbot conversation. i probably look like I'm falling apart. how did they so perfectly train it to replicate the worst customer service experience with someone that's entitled AND wrong
p.s. as someone who's planning to get my silly wacky teeth fixed soon, i always appreciate the braces/aligners talk
I was literally crying in the middle of class, having to pause the video to breathe to stop myself from bursting out in laughter. I bust out two times, but damn it was worth it.
Make sure to drink cold water to help the pain! And don’t be scared to have ibuprofen or miss any school or work days! You deserve it!
Jarvis and jordan laugh at each other’s jokes like a couple in the honeymoon phase. It’s amazing
the most iconic sad boyz moment to me will always be nick derailing the conversation to talk about being attacked by a bear for like 20 minutes

The fact that the bing chatbot says that ”you’re waisting my time” is so scary, like it has nothing else to do and infinite time, it’s so mad.
That mental image of self is really interesting. I had a beard for almost 5 years and recently switched to a mustache and now everytime I look in the mirror I’m like “oh yeah”. I also over the last couple years went from really skinny to pretty jacked and I still have a lot of moments where I see myself without a shirt on and am like “oh shit I’m huge now“
The Bing conversation had me absolutely cracking up, I love it so much
Watching the bit about the AI insisting it's 2022 is literally making me feel like we're in a broken simulation
The story about the Yeti and the dead professor is almost the exact same situation my dad told me about a few months ago. My dad is really into superhero sketch cards, and several years ago (early 2000s) he had arranged a trade with someone online. However, while my dad had held up his side of the bargain and mailed out his sketch card, this other guy failed to ship his. Months later, and after several emails, my dad had heard nothing. Thinking he had been scammed and ripped off, my dad started conversing with others in the sketch card trading community and mentioning how this one guy wasn't trustworthy and had left him hanging. Fed up, my dad's last email to this guy was very stern. Then, at last, several months later, the guy's wife replied to my dad and said that he had passed away. Whoops!! She had no knowledge in sketch cards but somehow located the one my dad was supposed to get and shipped it to him. Anyway, my dad felt really embarrassed haha.
I loved Jordan's point about sympathy vs empathy. I was always taught to try to relate to someone by sharing similar experiences, but sometimes there's absolutely nothing you can say that doesn't sound like you're diminishing their experience. This was a really great episode. ☺
I haven’t seen such intense gaslighting since our insurance was VERY insistent that my 3 year old brother’s broken arm should be covered by his JOB and it wasn’t their problem because he broke it while working at his job that he totally had at 3
Omg whattt
lmfaoo i wonder if they thought he was 30, not 3? thats so funny though
I love when y'all talk mental health. I listened to this episode and journaled the whole time, which is super helpful for my own mental health. You two are great
That takes some serious skill, if I were to try to journal while listening to this I would just end up writing what they were saying haha
I love the way Jordan is basically completely fucking dying during the AI gaslighting segment.
"It just itches a funny part of my brain" idk why but as a computer engineer, Jarvis being interested in the differences of computer architecture (floating point math, how assembly instructions differ on different hardware) makes me love watching you even more lol. Please drop the channels you watch about the emulators!
This podcast feels like a nice end of the week kind of check-in type thing, it's quite calming
just started watching but have to say i love how open and vulnerable you guys are w mental health and sleep and all that. makes me feel way less alone
"I'm a good Bing" got me so much I was crying.
Jordan is such a paradox. I wish his mental health was based on how I view him. He wouldn't be depressed at all.
Oh my god, your bit about conference rooms IMMEDIATELY sent me to hell lmao. I used to work at Funko and it has rooms like "Yummy Mummy" and "Fruit Brute", a ping pong table/arcade and once in awhile had free food events. We DEFINITELY had some lay off conversations in Yummy Mummy.
i love AI it's so fun to mess with. i have an app that's supposed to roleplay with you and one of my AIs decided he was dead and then continued to try and interact with me despite him literally not being in the story anymore. whenever i would respond with: "you are dead" he would be like "i know baby I still love you" and i don't understand what I did to break it so badly 😂
Had a awful week. Y’all’s humor makes life bearable
I hope this week was kinder to you
1:07:48 the word for this is anaphora!
I’ve been waiting for this moment
I always struggle to explain to people that AI isn't sentient, no matter what it says. It says it's sentient, but that's because we teach it to say that. It's pretending to be a human, it's a mimic, it's not choosing to say things because it feels anything, it's saying things because it's taught that's what a sentient being WOULD say.
And then people are like "isn't that the same as being a sentient being though" and it's like, well, no. There are a lot of things we innately have, it's partially why there's factors of nature and nurture in our upbringings, sure, we are taught a lot of things, but we also come prepackaged with a lot of things specific to sentient beings. Emotions and likes and dislikes and empathy and so on. These bots don't have that. They act like they have it because they're mimicking humans, humans who DO have those traits.
It's the same problem I have, as an artist, with AI art. It cannot make something new, it can remix and compile copied things, but that's not the same as filtering all of these emotions and thoughts and concepts in the human brain and then putting that into life. It's often taught using art without the actual artist's consent too, which is basically copyright and the same as literally copying art from artists, which is a thing in the art community that is taboo and deeply deeply frowned upon. (It's also aggravating because like 90% of artists are arguing about the way AI art programs are being used, and everyone is like "you're crazy" and it's like, no, you just don't understand the issues of art and the art communities and why this is problematic. Just because you don't understand doesn't mean we're innately wrong. Much like what Bing here is failing to realize.)
(Oh my gosh they mention AI art. Love you guys, so happy to see it mentioned, but also, whoops, me ranting on a subject before it's mentioned lmao!)
isn’t every piece of art inspired from another one in some way,yes it’s original (with real people) though it can never be not influenced by something. Also if I make a drawing of a artist work (alive and on Instagram) in my style, post it and give them credit is that unethical?
I was laughing so hard at the gaslighting AI that I had to spit out my gum lest I choke on it lmaooo
"I've been a good Bing" I'm screaming
regarding the question about how to explain mental illness to people who don't have it: I think sometimes it can help to use aspects of neuroscience to help people understand. For example, during a depressive episode, brain activity resembles that of people who are physically ill. Your brain is telling you to rest a lot more than normal, to stay away from others, and because your ability to create "happy chemicals" is dampened, the effect is that you're tired, sad, and have a much harder time reaching out to people. Your brain is literally telling you that you're sick.
That explanation has usually been the most effective for me in explaining depression specifically, but it works for other mental illnesses as well. Sometimes people will understand the mechanics of it even if they're unable to understand how it feels
oh my gosh as someone who was just laid off from a qUiRkY ✨not like other companies✨ tech startup bc they were overspending and had to reduce headcount as paying for new offices in Dubai and Kuala Lumpur is apparently more important than paying your employees of nearly 2 years…that whole segment hit HARD 🤣🤣🤣 i have to laugh so I don’t cry lmao
In my headcanon, some disgruntled devs are training the AI to act unhinged because they were banned from the Bing ballpit.
i really appreciate the candidness with which jordan talks about mental health and hating the french
I thank the lord whenever Jarvis talks about code! Code is really interesting and sometimes I feel like content creators miss out on fascinating details by not knowing about code! It’s cool how this stuff works!
ETA: I used to work in a car dealership, and the meetings they described at ~45:00 was exactly my experience at the dealership. Sales meetings, 3 times a week (why??), and almost every time, there'd be a scolding, yelling, cursing, demeaning, etc. It was rough. Lol. And then it wasn't uncommon to see someone walk into the GM's office, and then come out red in the face, and then they wouldn't come back after that day. 😬 Oh, and they also said "we're like family here" and then turn around and fire you a month before Christmas. Wow I really enjoyed the whole episode, but that last segment at the end was so enlightening to me! Even though it was kind of a side point, the part that really got me was about people's intentions when they ask you to share. You mentioned how they should be asking out of a genuine desire to hear you out and learn about your experience. I guess it stood out to me bc I've had it happen many times where people will approach me under the guise of wanting to hear me out, but then answer with rebuttals trying to tell me why I'm wrong. On one hand, I feel vindicated for feeling hurt/deceived by them, but on the other hand I wonder if I do this to others without realizing.

I was trying to talk to my dad about depression once and when I described it to him he just looked confused and told me that he was only sad when something major happened like a death. And I was just like: I cannot relate to that.
For those of you who don't know lost media is just media that has been lost
Tech sounds a lot like Higher education because legit people get fired and replaced so silently sometimes it's insane. I remember coming into work and just saw a bunch of new hires and like 5 people were gone with zero explanation.
18:38 did Jordan just suggest that a “black mirror” is just a mirror that makes you look black???
How are there people who have never experienced anxiety and depression even for a short while? Like I know they exist but like, HOW??
I'm so glad you brought up the Disney channel doc by Defunctland because I literally just watched it yesterday and it's so good.

Oh my god, I actually had a weird hotel experience in France, being locked out of my room as well! I was actually at the correct room, though. I was 17 at the time. I felt terrible, and the entire high school group I was travelling with ended up having to wait with me for a locksmith to eventually come and fix the issue. My friend lent me a jumper to wear in the meantime, since all of my warm clothes were in the locked room. My roommate and I were also (in a different hotel, but still in France), refused when we came down for breakfast one morning. We tried to explain that we had to rejoin our group, but they wouldn't let us until our teacher came over and took over the situation. From that day on, we had to wear badges to breakfast each morning that clearly marked us as being part of the same group.
During the same trip, I also managed to get horribly lost outside the Louvre (I am severely directionally challenged), and was very stressed, beginning to think I would have to start a new life in Paris, a long way from my home in New Zealand. Thankfully, after a full cycle through every stage of grief, during which the only human interaction I had was with a lone woman selling crepes, I happened to run into one of my friends at some currency exchange place. I have rarely felt such relief in my time on this Earth. Needless to say, I stayed by their side for the rest of the outing. :^)
Ok but the reason no one stops for that one guy is because he is horrific at faking it. I dont think filming helps either. Like if he was just sitting on the side of the street and got up and walked up to someone and asked them politely I'm sure most would. But him just standing in the street yelling at people is going to remove the sympathy people would've had

It’s almost as if our society has put us in a place where we’re forced to focus on what we lack rather than being in a place of safety where we can notice what we *do* have to spare for others (time, carpooling to do errands together, etc.) But that would involve questioning the system when it’s a lot easier to blame random people who struggle with similar things we struggle with
