Where possible, all links are affiliate links, this youtube thing is an expensive endeavor and every little bit helps.
I bought this case from Amazon based on your video, and it is a PERFECT match for this radio. I made a few mods to the inside, and removed the badge from the handle. Seriously, thank you so much for making this video and sharing the purchase link! 73 de N2MXX in NJ
I removed some of the mesh on the inside. I love this case for this radio! Thanks for watching!
@@temporarilyoffline I removed the piece of mesh exactly as you showed, and it is perfect. Furthermore, I made a 3S 18650 lithium battery with 9 batteries salvaged from a dead Ryobi battery pack (one of the batteries was dead in the pack, the rest were good....3S BMS from Amazon for a few dollars)...batteries placed side-by-side, and it fits perfectly in the top part...tests at about 6ah. I also took a piece of spare kydex plastic, cut it to the size of the 6100, and drilled holes for the knobs....it sits on top of the radio while it is in the case (held in place by the knob-holes) and protects the screen from compression.
Just what I needed! Ordered my ex6100 from r&l electronics yesterday and started freaking out because I didn't really have a suitable case for it yet. I've got something good for everything else the KX2, kx3, 705 and the qcxmini but this guy was going to be naked on my next expedition, which is coming up in less than a week! Not anymore thanks to you man!
I got you! This is a fun radio, enjoy it!
I bought one of these cases for my truck GPS. Pretty handy and I believe it’s advertised as such.
Yeah it's a GPS holder. I had to do some research to find the right fit to protect the radio from the rest of my gear in my backpack
@@temporarilyoffline it’s definitely a good choice and not all that expensive. I don’t buy cheap Chinese radios myself. I have the the IC-705 with the Icom backpack.
@@truckinguy92 My radio habit would be a lot bigger problem if it weren't for chinese QRaP. I have some of all kinds.
@@temporarilyoffline I like that QRaP! I have my reasons mainly because the only one I ever bought had problems within a week of owning it. I’m glad the eBay vendor “Lets Get Ready” took it back. After that I swore them off for good. I’d rather buy one good radio that’s quality and expensive than gamble having several cheap ones that is like shooting “craps”. I can’t imagine warranty work and half decent customer service is even possible dealing with a company in China that’s already got your money and probably doesn’t care.
@@truckinguy92 I have been worried about customer service from halfway around the world... but I was impressed with Radioddity for support
Great video! I just found a similar case to fit my G90 for the same reason. I was catching up on some of your missed videos and thought, "Hey I did that!" LOL
Awesome Travis, what case did you get for the g90? Its a bit bigger.
Hahahaha, 3k HP in a pickup? That sounds like Vice Grip Garage stuff! 😛 Great video Steve, happy new year! 73s, Jan (M7HNK)
Ha! Vice Grip garage got started local to me!
First, THANK YOU for all of your work on the x6100.
I too, got this bag, and contrary to your video and others' experience, I found the bag too small for this radio. Yes, I can wedge it in, and remove it, but with significant difficulty. You make it look easy. Not in my case [pun intended].
My specimum bag can't be smaller than yours, can it?
I decided to cut each side edge of the lower netting, creating a flap. I reinforced along each cut, both inside and opposing outside with a small velcro strip.
Now I have the extra room I need to put the radio in and remove it without struggling.
Thank you for the kind words. My radio fits in the bag "snug" and I also removed the top section of mesh leaving the bottom section inside. I have the mic, radio, power cord, usb cable, log book all stored in the case snugly... maybe you get a slightly smaller case? Drop some pics on TOADs discord and I'll show some pics of my current setup in return.
@@temporarilyoffline "I also removed the top section of mesh" -- I don't see that in the video, the mesh looks the same as the unit that I received.
With the protective side rails on the radio I can't get it to fit.
@@gnormhurstSmart Move! I removed those in a future video also.
Looking for something JUST like this... And OMG that leather cover for the notebook?! That's ham sexy. Mrs TO did really well with that I think
I showed her your comment, she was happy to be of help
Good idea! Thanks for the heads up on the case for the 6100.
You're welcome!
I've been looking for a case for the 6100 - that one looks perfect. Thanks
It's tight, but I didn't want a full go kit, just a little protection for my backpack
@@temporarilyoffline Got one today from Amazon. You're right - its snug, but I don't want it rattling around. Enough room for the essentials and firm enough to protect the knobs and the screen. Great idea
@@Johnmfoss Thanks John! I've got mine with me today!
Great idea, I just happen to already have a case like that which came with a car jump-start/power bank thing. And I have a British Army signals new-old stock radio backpack which will work perfect with it. I just got to get the antenna now.
What antenna were you thinking?
@@temporarilyoffline I can't easily get Adams kits here in Budapest but I can make one! :) I already had a toroid and so I'm half way there.
I've already built a speaker wire dipole antenna and will try that to start with, It's not very compact though...
@@stewartrv antenna building is one of my favorite parts if this hobby
@@temporarilyoffline Yep me too! Another reason I like the DX Commander as it's so easy to play around with, I added 80m and 160m to mine last year and even though 160m was a (mega compromise) horizontal U shape about 2-3m off the ground I was still able get a QSO into Italy!
@@stewartrv I use a Tuner with my 40m DXC and get 60, 80 and 160... talk about a compromise!
Salvation Army and Goodwill are a goldmine of cases and obscure shaped bags, and external speakers, for mono or home pc stereo plug types for them Xiegus.
Great idea!
@@temporarilyoffline Probably never heard of it, but I usually stop by Unclaimed Baggage in Scottsboro, AL on the way to the Huntsville Hamfest. They literally have hundreds of various sized cases, earbuds, and headphones. I even got a mini BT keyboard for the rare times I log with a tablet.
@@n1rbd That's an excellent tip!
You make me want one more and more with every video you do! Lol
You should get one, I've got a discount code in the description. I've also got an update on this case.
@@temporarilyoffline not in the budget right now unfortunately. Thanks for the info and keep up the good work! Love your videos! DE W5CTB
@@duckdude018 thanks Collin!
@@temporarilyoffline your welcome!
5105 doesn't need a microphone, one is built in so it's a win!.......lol. I like it!
I hadn't thought of that. The X6100 has a built in mic as wel... Good point!
@@temporarilyoffline and the internal 5105 mic actually sounds good ......another win!
Bought the bag. Last one I had was mediocre.
Different bag last time?
Got a rough guess on dimensions?
9.05 x 5.79 x 3.86 inch
What about having those extended guards on the side, does it still fit?
It does! In my video on those guards, I put it all back in place and I've been using it that way for a long time with good results!
Cool
Cool
I believe if you don't have a hat for the hat tip, you can touch two fingers to your brow.
I think there are some formal traditions that came from this.
We will look into this
How well did the case work after installing the handles?
It works great! I don't show it in this video, but this case mod makes a big difference and you can't see it: ua-cam.com/video/s8_KwEfNgDI/v-deo.html
@@temporarilyoffline Switching out the mic cable is awesome! Thank you for that tip!
@jmount1200 you're welcome! are you on the TOADs discord? We are doing some cool things with this radio!
@@temporarilyoffline I am in TOADs although, there I am @jmount. Thank you.
How much room is left for Adam's 3d printer key or maybe one slightly larger in the case with a microphone?
All his knobs in one go-bag, wheres the kerchunk fluid...
I see what you did there!
