  • The Ohio State Highway Patrol has released body camera footage from the multi-vehicle crash on the Ohio Turnpike last month that left four dead and many injured.
The crash happened eastbound on the Ohio Turnpike between State Route 53 and State Route 4 in Sandusky County and eventually stretched into Erie County.
Forty-six vehicles were involved in the crash, according to OSHP Sgt. Ryan Purpura. At least three of the four victims were in different vehicles.
Francisco Gutierrez-Martinez, 30, of Cleveland; Bernard M. Bloniarz, 59, of Napoleon; Emma L. Smith, 19, of Webberville, Mich.; and Julie E. Roth, 37, of Toledo, were killed in the crash, OSHP said.
Weather conditions including high winds, blowing snow, and frigid temperatures factored into Friday's crash, OSHP confirmed. Everyone involved in the crash was bussed to a facility to stay warm.
The rescue effort continued through white-out conditions.

@@Genghis_Johnif you didn't know this was going to happen would you really 'skip' work? A lot of employers don’t care and will fire workers for not showing up. If your rent payment is dependent on that job, most will go to work.

They should shut this turnpike down in the winter when it starts snowing, this is a shame! Also, my prayers go out to all who were hurt and the families that lost their loved ones!

You must be from somewhere that never has snow. Snow is a common occurrence that people drive through regularly. It's no big deal as long as you know how to drive in it. Unfortunately, many people don't have a clue. Don't prohibit something that people can do safely just because others cannot. People just need to learn how to make better decisions personally instead of having authoritarians decide for them. We have enough authoritarians in the world today - we don't need any more.

In nfld we get very high snowfsll and winds 120 kilos. On these occassions all our roads and highways are shut just as aoon as possible until roads clear. If we did not people would die like this in vehicle crash dye to ice and vudibility. Residents need to lobby their givernment for more safety. Also snow ties snd heavy treads required here to operate in winter.

So I work for a tow company in ohio not too far from where this tragic accident took place, the reason why the trooper did this in the beginning of the video you heard him say "recon" any time a fatal happens they need to video document the entire scene including LP's and even DOT numbers to help identify the RO "registered owners".

Trust me when I say this. Has it ever been okay to record or distribute child pornography? To record unconsenting individuals? To then keep these recordings? Has this ever been okay? My father was in the highways patrol in 2007. He worked there for four years. He was shown “movies” recordings of unknowing individuals who also word for the highways patrol. Younger recruits would unknowingly be recorded in compromising positions. This esp escualos happened to the young women and their families with hidden cameras. Older lts would then watch these “movies”. This practice still continues. Find these “movies” lots of the time they are kept hidden. Asian American women are specifically targeted. These include the wives of younger recruits as well. Minors are still being recorded. Stop this tradition.
