My friends and I used to speak of April Wine in the same breath as Dokken, Dio, .38 Special, Cinderella, etc. April Wine should be more known. IMO those guitar tones are great. We will always love April Wine.
And sadly now they have a tape of the high notes, that is on the keyboards, that they press to fake him able to still do them. Damn we know you are older, it is ok to not be able to get up that high anymore. Was sad, once the keyboardist hit it early and everything was out of synch, did he get a look, lol
April Wine and UFO are two incredible hard rock bands that played some legendary shows and made amazing albums and yet somehow the stars didn't quite align and they never got their due.
Only in America, and since America is not the entire Planet, both AW and UFO were big elsewhere. Just like another Canadian Band Saga who did not much in N. America, after their first couple of albums, they were massive in Europe, especially Germany, as well as Puerto Rico etc.
Holy shit! They were so F'ing Tight! Jerry Mercer steadily Kickin' Arse and his drum solo was very original and so powerful! Myles Goodwin's vocals are legendary, one of the best all-time rock and roll singers. All three guitars were smoking hot, sharing solo responsibilities, then twin and sometimes triple lead parts, brilliantly awesome!!
Yes Sir, before there was Pro Tools.....there were Pro's! April Wine was so tight with their live performance, I'd bet they could do this in their sleep. Smoking hot back in their day.
I stood beside Mr Mercer as he did his drum solo 20 years after this concert. It was the same as this one. Totally awesome. I’m still mesmerized at his talent. The concert I saw and there were many was in Moncton New Brunswick.
Just saw April Wine in concert tonight! They've only gotten better!! What a grand performance! Amazing talented musicians who know their instruments inside and out. Now that's classic rock 'n roll to the max!!! This band formed in 1969, starting out in Nova Scotia, so long ago. One of Canada's greatest rock bands ever!
Saw April Wine only 1 time, forget the year, maybe 79 or 80 at the Royal Oak Music Theatre in Michigan. Vastly underrated band, never got the respect they deserved here in the States. Could go note for note with ANYBODY. Jerry Mercer was an absolute beast on the drums.

I saw these guys twice in Houston in the 80s, once with Molly Hatchet and again when they headlined, what an awesome live band, those red Marshall stacks they had were very cool, if you like real, disciplined, bad ass guitar playing this is your band.

This band had been putting out albums and their brand of quality rock since the early 70's. They were no newbies and had paid their dues with 10 years behind them.
I always enjoyed listening to their music. When I watched this video and how young they were. I was a teenager at their time. It bring back memories. Their music will be played from one generation to another.
My first April Wine album was On Record. Excellent album, I was hooked. Electric Jewels is definitely an underrated classic imo. And the rest is history lol. Saw them live a zillion times since '72
A vastly underrated band. Wonderful musicians, good songs with catchy hooks, I guess they just didn't have that door buster hit that took them to the next plateau. Richard Green is right. It is refreshing to see a band with real chops playing live, even if it is from my junior high days.
They had lots of hits, problem at that time..... They were Canadian... Still kinda revelant in today's Canadian music,, well. Music is gone to shit,,, so for what's its worth when it comes to todays music in general....horrible...

Harder Faster and Nature Of The Beast finally gave them respectability in the U.S. and elsewhere. Roller was a big hit back then. I've seen them live since '72 and their concerts were always brilliant, pure rock n roll. Their record label should've done more to promote them because it definitely wasn't for lack of talent. Bad ass! Back in the day, and decade, when bands sounded just as good live as their albums did. Unlike the lip synching, digitally enhanced, back tracking crap of today's corporate bullshit "performers" of today!
And then there were bands like Aerosmith: "wizards" in the studio, but by the time their tours hit our Midwest, they were too trashed to have any business taking the stage.
April Wine does not get the respect they deserve here in Canada. They cranked out some of the Best 70s rock and were killers live. Gary Moffat is buttery smooth and has been playing those DC Les Paul's since 73, Gerry Mercer is world class on drums and Myles Goodwyn is a great frontman/vocalist/songwriter/guitarist. It is just so satisfying that I can now go back in time on youtube and catch the bands that inspired me and realize I am not crazy. They actually were that good!
Yep!!!!🍻4🍻
Right bro.
I agree, picked up their first album, fan for life. Get Ready for Loving got me laid so many times, the important thing us they all became fans, all 3 of them , over a 5 year stretch. I'm 68 now, we're talking the 70s and 80s folks. But they're good as ever and always will be
I'm 56 loved that band 1st time I ever saw them live!!👍👍🤘🤘🤘🤘👊🤘
Saw them live for the first time back in '72. I knew instantly they were a great band, they always delivered
Me too!
My God what a great band. The drummer is a monster player. Always have loved April Wine but never got to see them live.
This band makes it look so easy. But this is awesome talent, beyond words. I am so glad I grew up with this band.
Such a great band. Very underrated.... tight, tight.....tight! Canada knows how to Rock.
RIP MYLES,YOU ARE GOING TO BE MISSED BUT ALWAYS REMEMBERED AND REVERED.
Jerry mercer is a mutha fuckin animal on a drum kit. What he didn't get more regonition than he did is a mystery to me. he is as good as any of the greatest drummers out there and his solos are ones I can watch and love
Damn, I just found out today that Myles died...😢RIP🙏
I was fortunate to see April Wine live in '82, I was still in high school.
Uriah Heep opened... Awesome show!❤👌👍
My friends and I used to speak of April Wine in the same breath as Dokken, Dio, .38 Special, Cinderella, etc. April Wine should be more known. IMO those guitar tones are great. We will always love April Wine.
In Southern California, during the 70's, April Wine were well known to us. They certainly were not underrated by any means.
I wore out that nature of the beast vinyl in the 80’s as a kid.
April Wine is what Loverboy imagined they sounded like.
🤣 Too True!
And sadly now they have a tape of the high notes, that is on the keyboards, that they press to fake him able to still do them. Damn we know you are older, it is ok to not be able to get up that high anymore. Was sad, once the keyboardist hit it early and everything was out of synch, did he get a look, lol
True that lol!!!!
Better clarify, I meant Loverboy not April Wine, has the tape backup.
Great great band, chance of a life time saw da boys at the El Macombo, fantastic!
April Wine and UFO are two incredible hard rock bands that played some legendary shows and made amazing albums and yet somehow the stars didn't quite align and they never got their due.
Well, at least the fans knew. April Wine was always a great band for me, bought every album and saw every concert. They always delivered live. Always
@@rickleblanc8900 AGREED!
Only in America, and since America is not the entire Planet, both AW and UFO were big elsewhere. Just like another Canadian Band Saga who did not much in N. America, after their first couple of albums, they were massive in Europe, especially Germany, as well as Puerto Rico etc.
My high school buddy is UFO’s guitar player.the great Vinnie Moore !!
@@Arizona_Stonah Damn, lucky you, did he have it as a youngen too?
I remember those years well 1982 April Wine ! Thanks for the Limousine Ride Bar Hop Party ! Rest In Peace Steve Lang
I stood beside Mr Mercer as he did his drum solo 20 years after this concert. It was the same as this one. Totally awesome. I’m still mesmerized at his talent. The concert I saw and there were many was in Moncton New Brunswick.
Carl Palmer is special too.
Never underestimate the talents here
@@kentkearney6623Yes, love Carl Palmer’s time keeping skills too! Saw ELP many years ago.
hardest working band in Canada and beyond in the 70s and 80s they played everywhere from small towns to the bigger citys and every where in between
100% live music. No tricks, gimmicks, or overdubs. Mistakes and all.
Hell yes
Ace, you touched on it. These guys can play. And they all play. Period
No gimmicks?. Big hair, big stage, leather pants, red pants. Dont try that at your job
@@broncobrian2344 that was dressed down for the time.
Mercer on drums ... so underrated.
New Glasgow Nova Scotia with Mashmakhan !969 and several times over the years. Always a great show.
Love this band!! Underrated Canadian band
AWWWW man!!!! I was at this concert!!! 5 seasons I think it was! Drove all the way from Galesburg, IL several times for shows there! 17 and livin' the dream!!!
Yes, Live at the Five!!!
I was there as well! Hell of a show!
Wow Cedar Rapids hasn't rocked like this in my lifetime.
@@65Bobw Hey Bob, I was there too,,,drove from Ames this was on MTV and caught a shot of us about 10 people deep
@@65Bobw I have the full DVD of this concert, ordered it from someone in England I think
These guys put on a great show back in the day and were one of the most unpretentious bands of that era.
I saw these guys twice in Houston in the 80s, once with Molly Hatchet and again when they headlined, what an awesome live band, those red Marshall stacks they had were very cool, if you like real, disciplined, bad ass guitar playing this is your band.
I was there too when Molly Hatchet and April Wine played in Houston.
Dont forget ACDC.
Saw them with BOC in ‘95. What a night!!
These guys just about pioneered the multiple guitar hard rock sound. Tight and great lyrics. Jerry Mercer just an excellent drummer. Just awesome.
As big of a fan as I am-Thin lizzy were the true pioneers on that front.
@@MCNN2891 wishbone ash and Allman brothers were the pioneers of twin guitars
i had the nature of the beast cassette when i was 16. drinking beer and listening to april wine was great times back then. music now is just losers talking to a drum machine.
Indiana boy grew up Loving these guys. Kansas,Styx,April Wine. All Rock Legends to me. Lots of Really great tunes😊
All I ever wanted to do in my youth was play guitar like the boys in April Wine.
Best most underrated drummer
Great Band, Great Concert. You're so blessed to see them perform live. Great song writing, stage presence, sound, vocals, tight, & great musicianship. They deserve the recognition up there with RUSH and Rock n Roll Hall of Fame.
I agree but that will never happen unfortunately
The RnR hall of fame are idiots
@@shawndouglass2939 True dat! Steve Miller made a mockery of the R&R Hall of Fame and I laughed when Rick Neilson of Cheap Trick says he would have to take out a mortgage just to afford the extra tickets for his family. lol
Awsome always'd love this eara.👍👍
I was stationed in Adak Alaska and their song enough is enough really got me through the hard times.
Saw April Wine during the Nature of the Beast tour in England. They hadn't sold many tickets for the gig as they were not well known at that point. To their credit they were very professional and put on a great show. Class act.
I love how Myles Goodwin says, "Merci beaucoup!" even though he's in IA!
I thought it was bill Murray with a perm.
April wine,Rush, and Triumph was able to see all 3 what a great time and best memories!! Awesome Bands!!
So lucky!!!
@@technoforever888 yes I lived in Chicago I played guitar in bands band mates would go to every concert always wanted me there . Honestly I never bought a ticket in my life went to over 30 concerts. Rush with backup bands 3 times ,primus,Joe Perry project, I seen 7 times,April wine and nazareth ,1 time seen Ozzy with black Sabbath Toni iomi and with Randy rhodes, seen Genesis, AC/DC, Styx,Reo Speedwagon, triumph seen 2 times , Stevie ray Vaughan ,Kansas,UFO, Michael schenker group, scorpions, kiss, molly hatchet, outlaws,Ted Nugent ,lynard Skynyrd I got around late 70s early 80s never got to see Zeppelin I was definitely lucky.
Saw April Wine in 1996 at “Party on the Plaza” in downtown Houston. Free concert sponsored by legendary radio station 101 KLOL. Myles and Brian put on an absolute guitar clinic that night. My wife was 7 months pregnant at the time and I had to beg her to go. Walked up to the edge of the stage and shook Brian’s hand after the show. Hard to believe that was almost 30 years ago!!
Roller got the most radio play. My favorites was gypsy queen and i like to rock. They also used the same studio as rush on i like to rock video. Such a talented band.
This band had been putting out albums and their brand of quality rock since the early 70's. They were no newbies and had paid their dues with 10 years behind them.
seen them 1992 as well but in El Paso
I always enjoyed listening to their music. When I watched this video and how young they were. I was a teenager at their time. It bring back memories. Their music will be played from one generation to another.
Same. It was a great time to be a kid. And, we didn’t really know how good we had it at the time.
At the pinnacle of their career , saw them many times. They never disappointed 🎸
I was there ! Five Seasons Center 9/24/82. Eddie Money opened for them. Good times !!!
First 3 albums were one of a kind! Underrated by miles !
Myles Goodwyn! :)
Most people consider First Glance their first album when in fact they had 5 albums before that.
@@Hurriken42 I love Live at the El Mocambo....
My first April Wine album was On Record. Excellent album, I was hooked. Electric Jewels is definitely an underrated classic imo. And the rest is history lol. Saw them live a zillion times since '72
@@rickleblanc8900 On Record was my first taste of April Wine also, Bad side of the moon and Drop your guns were my favorites
Sounds like hard Rock to my ears and I like it! What a great Rock voice!
Sorry to see you go. Thanks for the Music.
RIP
I saw them three times in the late 70s early 80s. Always a bridesmaid never a bride. One of the most underrated bands in history.
I REMEMBER SEEING THIS CONCERT AIRED ON Mtv.. MR.JERRY MERCER'S DRUM SOLO IS JUST ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL..
A vastly underrated band. Wonderful musicians, good songs with catchy hooks, I guess they just didn't have that door buster hit that took them to the next plateau. Richard Green is right. It is refreshing to see a band with real chops playing live, even if it is from my junior high days.
I agree very underated, but they did put out some great tunes and placed Canadian rock on the map.
They had lots of hits, problem at that time..... They were Canadian... Still kinda revelant in today's Canadian music,, well. Music is gone to shit,,, so for what's its worth when it comes to todays music in general....horrible...
What the hell is with Canadian bands being underrated? April Wine was. If you dig into "The Guess Who's" catalog they were clearly underrated too.
@@ou812also5 Shitty label. Read Myles memoir. He hated the label since they did such a terrible job at promoting them in the US. First Glance, Harder Faster, Nature of the Beast, Power Play all should have been top ten albums in the states with proper promotion with several top ten hits if not some #1's.
Besides Rush, it seems Canadian bands take longer to get their due
The venue in Cedar Rapids used to be called the 5 Seasons Center(Alliant Energy Powerhouse) and it's capacity is 9 thousand.
I was there 👍🎸
My first concert was April Wine. I was 15, got floor tickets, 20 something rows back. Stood on my chair almost the whole show.
Just Brilliant. Never tire of these guys. The guitar work always mesmerizing. Fly high, Myles.
Bad ass! Back in the day, and decade, when bands sounded just as good live as their albums did. Unlike the lip synching, digitally enhanced, back tracking crap of today's corporate bullshit "performers" of today!
Right on!!!!
get off my lawn !
No autotune garbage!!!
And then there were bands like Aerosmith: "wizards" in the studio, but by the time their tours hit our Midwest, they were too trashed to have any business taking the stage.
Seen them in 78 @ Souix Falls,SD...made our way up front, and we're right under them, kicked ass!!!
What always impressed me by these guys were how tight they were, their sound was always great, their style and flair. Never disappointed.
Saw you a year earlier at Calgary Nature of the Beast
Saw them at the first Monster's of Rock at Donnington, the Harder, Faster UK tour, then Nature of the Beast, 40 years and still an amazing live band.
Myles died today due to having a rare form of diabetes 😢.I saw April Wine perform numerous times here in Kingston, Ontario.
So sad
RIP Brother
I was at this concert, i believe Eddie Money was with them, a few nights later Billy Squier and Nazareth was there, Good Times!
April wine & Eddy money September 18th 1982 Bismarck ND. Just turned 17
Graduated High School in 1981 and “Just Between You and Me” was the theme song for our Senior Ball. /ugh 🙂🤙
Awesome 👍✌🖐🎸🎵🎶🎼🕺🏿
I was lucky enough to see this tour. It was incredible
Back in 78 on, so many concerts were on a roll in Sudbury, Ont.I was always by the stage so much fun..Didn't have to sit them days..just party on!
And, they are all very down to earth guys. Thank you for the music guys. Bless you for the memories. The soundtrack to much of my teen years. If you are not familiar with April Wine, check out Stand Back from 1975. One of the best Canadian rock albums of the 70s. Thank you for uploading this.
I saw them a few times. The first time hearing them live was as an 11 year old standing outside the loading doors at the Peach Bowl in Penticton BC. Then I saw them actually live in Calgary, probably on this same tour, and again and again after that. There was no one like them live. NO ONE. The top touring acts of the time paled in comparison IMO.
Rest in peace Miles, and thanks for everything.
I would have been a little afraid as a headliner to have these guys open before our band.straight forward hard rockers.
You are right. Saw them open for Rush. Imo they blew Rush away.
As an Iowan, I would have loved to have been at this concert in 1982, but I was in San Diego, with the US Navy.
April Wine- kick ass concert! They were very much an under rated band!
Saw these dudes twice in INDY.
They were ROCK-ROLL!
